Posted Breed: Chocolate Labrador Retriever / German Shorthaired Pointer / Mixed (short coat). Meet NEFA, she was rescued from a Sacramento shelter. Her family had to give her up for housing reasons. Their new rental agreement did not allow pets. She is part of our "I'm Special" group of dogs within our rescue. Each of our "I'm Special" dogs' adoption fee is $40. What makes Nefa special is that she has been waiting patiently for a home for a long time. We don't know why because she is a sweet, loving dog. Since being in foster care, she has blossomed, she is quiet in the house and is housebroken. Just an all around good dog. Nefa would do well around respectful school ages kids. She currently is fostered with a senior Doberman. They are fine together. However she does like to be alpha. So we prefer she be an only dog. We are working with leash manners with her as she can pull on the leash. We do recommend obedience classes for her. She loves the water and outdoor activities. She loves to please and will benefit from a family that includes her in their weekend and or daily outings. Nefa is 6 years old and weighs around 70 pounds. She is spayed, microchipped, and current on her vaccines.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Daisy

      rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Miniature Pinscher Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Campbell, CA
Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Daisy is about 18 months old and weighs 20 pounds. She was turned into the animal shelter by her former family because they had too many dogs. They stated that she is a Labrador Retriever mix. She definitely looks like she is mixed with a Miniature Pinscher. Daisy is a wonderful and sweet dog. She is very comfortable when she is surrounded by other dogs and loves to engage in play with them. She tends to be very shy when she meets someone new, if there are not other dogs around. Definitely gets her confidence from her canine companions. Daisy would be a great option for someone who loves to get outdoors for exercise and fresh air, but can't have or doesn't want a large breed dog. Daisy can keep up with hiking, long walks and jogging. She has a small frame with long legs. Very agile and athletic. That being said, once she is indoors, she loves nothing more than to cuddle on the couch with you. Her former family stated that she was good with small children and was learning basic obedience skills. She lived indoors and is house trained. We introduced Daisy to the cat in her foster home. She was friendly with the cat and did not try to chase him.

      Breed: Pembroke Welsh Corgi-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Campbell, CA
Posted Breed: Corgi / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Peanut has been listed as a courtesy listing. For information please contact grace.ryder@hotmail.com Approx 3 yr old female Corgi/Cattle Dog mix, 40 pounds – Peanut -spayed, up to date on vaccines (bordetella, DHPP, rabies), dewormer and flea/tick -very submissive with people and friendly (females, and most males – has growled at guys wearing suits) -knows her name, commands Come, Sit, Down, Crawl, is house broken, Go Outside and Potty Peanut was a stray before going to the shelter and as such has a tendency to resource guard from other dogs. When she first came to foster she would growl, snap and even chase other dogs from “her” space. She has been coming along well with positive reinforcement and is learning that not all toys/food belong to her. She also used to bark at every passing dog in the park and is getting better each day. She’s a wonderful, cuddly dog who loves to run at the park (long leash as she’s not dog-friendly yet) but can be very chill at home. Doesn’t chew furniture or jump up. Loves to chase toys on the ground and animals outside too! Tends to bark when excited, but getting better at that too. She’s great at being handled all sorts of ways including nail clipping and trimming but as a previous stray doesn’t fully know her bite strength and is getting better at soft mouth. She’s now fully housebroken, but doesn’t tend to be very obvious when she needs outside unless you ask. She does learn fast though and sleeps through the night on her bed without any accidents. Not recommended for a home with children under 10. Not recommended for a home with cats or other dogs. Not recommended for first time dog owners unless you’re willing to take her to classes. She has such potential and could be great at agility, lure coursing or even herding. Please fill out an application if you would like to adopt Peanut. It will be forwarded to her current caregiver. ---

      Breed: Chihuahua
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Campbell, CA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Meet our little diva, Quinn. She is a gorgeous white chihuahua with a brown patch over one eye and a beautiful blue eye on the other side. She found herself impounded at an animal shelter. Being the little lady that she is, she was simply mortified at her living conditions. Concrete floor, sharing a bed with others, etc. Quinn is about a year old and weighs 9 pounds. She was quite popular. Quite a few people wanted to adopt her, but she just didn't act interested. She was pretty scared. So, a shelter employee took her home to foster as she could see the little sweetheart behind the fear. Sure enough, Quinn became a happy affectionate dog within a day. At the shelter employee's request, we took Quinn into rescue. She has been a joy to foster every day. She welcomes her foster mom's attention and as you can see, feels right at home on the furniture! Curled up next to you is a great place to be! Quinn also is very dog social. She has several playmates and does well with them. She has met cats and is about as uninterested in them as they are in her. We have not had her around children, but feel that kids of at least teenage should be fine.

      Breed: Bichon Frise
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Campbell, CA
Posted Breed: Bichon Frise (short coat). Archie is a 5 year old Bichon Frise. He weighs 16 pounds and is non-shedding. Sadly, his former owner had too many dogs and was required to turn her animals into the animal shelter so that they could be rehomed. Our rescue took 4 of the dogs, including Archie. We are certain that these dogs were well loved. She just had too many and was unable to care for them properly. Archie has been recently groomed. He was very scared of the electric clippers, so our groomer scissor trimmed him. His coat will continue to grow and will need regular grooming appointments to keep him tidy. He will need to be taken to a groomer that is very experienced and patient, willing to work with his fear. Archie is a very sweet dog. He was the first to jump into our arms (literally) at the animal shelter, were we met him. He enjoys hanging out with his dog friends and would do fine in a multi dog home, or as an only dog. He met the cat in his foster home and was non-reactive. He is now crate trained and is learning how to walk on a leash. We do not know if he has been exposed to children, but feel that dog experienced kids of at least 10 years old should be fine. A very sweet and kind hearted beautiful dog that is sure to bring joy to your life.

Posted Breed: Boxer / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Honey is a 9 month old, 34 pound beautiful chocolate brindle baby girl. We are not sure what she is mixed with. Possibly Boxer, Pit Bull and maybe even some Great Dane! The shape of her head and ears really resemble a Dane. 34 pounds, does not! What ever she is, she is such a sweet and playful girl. They day we found her at the animal shelter, she and another young Pit Bull pup were just having a ball playing together. Honey definitely enjoys the company of other dogs and truly enjoys playing. Since joining our rescue, she has become such a gentle, well behaved little lady. Always happy to see you, but not over exuberant. She is going to be very easily trained. Honey is crate trained, enjoys walks on the leash and would do wonderful with a family that enjoys spending time with their dog. She'll enjoy hiking, dog beach, dog parks, camping, soccer games and outdoor dining. I don't think that there is much this little girl won't enjoy. A lovely dog in search of a fabulous family.

Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher (short coat). Luchi is a 5 year old, 18 pound Chocolate and tan Miniature Pinscher. His owner, who is elderly, was unable to take care of Luchi any longer, so he turned him into an animal shelter along with another dog. By the time we saw Luchi, the other dog had been adopted. That being said, Luchi is very well adjusted and has adapted to his foster home great. He hangs out with the other dogs and does just fine. His former owner said that he also does well with cats and is playful with children. He also stated that Luchi can be a bit of a door dasher, so with that in mind, if there are kids in the home they should be at least old enough to be responsible and watch when they are going in and out of the house. Probably at least 10 years of age. Luchi is an active dog and would enjoy a family who likes to spend time walking and hiking. He is a beauty and is sure to get many compliments as he struts his way into your life and heart!

Posted Breed: Corgi / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Lily is a Corgi Chihuahua mix that was adopted from an animal shelter a few years ago. We were asked to try to find her a new home. She is 6 years old and weighs 31 pounds. Lily has always been a one person dog since being adopted. Her owner is now having health problems which has required help from others. Lily sensing her owner's special needs is now very protective of him, which is making it difficult to receive the care that he needs. The family is really hoping to find a single person who is looking for a great little housedog, who doesn't have a lot of company and is just looking for that special dog that needs a special person to live her life with.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (short coat). Carlos is a 3 year old, Chihuahua mix. He is marked like an Australian Cattle Dog and loves to play fetch like an Australian Cattle Dog. We are purely guessing based on color and personality. He weighs about 12 pounds. He loves his foster mom. He isn't the type that welcomes strangers. He is cautious when meeting new people. Once he realizes that the person can be trusted, he will be fine. Will play fetch with a tennis ball for as long as you will throw it for him. He also just loves carrying it around, should no one wants to play with him. We don't think that he has lived with other dogs before. When he met some of the dogs in his foster home, he didn't know what to do. He acted ready for battle, but there were so many of them, so he played it safe and stood very still while they all checked him out. They all were very kind, agreed he could be trusted and ran off to play. He stood there perplexed, but relieved that he was still safe. He is relaxing more with the other dogs better every day. Carlos met the cat in his foster home and was non reactive. We do not think that a home with young children would be a good fit. Teenagers that are dog experienced should be fine.

Posted Breed: Maltese / Poodle (Toy) / Mixed (short coat). Cooper is a darling 10 pound, 2 year old Poodle mix, most likely with Maltese or possibly Yorkie. His family turned him into the animal shelter. We don't know the reason why, but based on his appearance, they just might have decided that they didn't want to pay for grooming expenses and dog food. He is underweight and should gain a few pounds. He loves his dog food, so he should be a good weight soon! We had his coat shaved down. He seems to be non shedding and will need regular grooming appointments to keep him tidy. Cooper is a very sweet dog. He is a bit shy initially, but loves to sit in your lap and truly enjoys to cuddle with his foster mom. He has a cute underbite and is going to be a beautiful dog with the love and care that every dog deserves to have. We do not know if he has lived with small children, but feel that dog experienced kids of at least 10 years of age should be fine. He does wonderful with other dogs. He was curious about the cat in his foster home, but did not act aggressively.
