Posted Breed: Golden Retriever / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Hi there, my name is Wesson, and oh man, do I make some cute faces! I can be a little shy around new things at times, but I warm up fast, and my sweet, happy self shines through. I like to be by your side, and I'm always at the ready for a nice pat on the head. I've got all the right stuff to be your best friend. Somehow I fond myself out on the streets searching and searching for a forever home. At least I had my brother, Smith (see what we did there?) with me, and we kept each other company. While I love a little sunshine and fresh air, the streets can be really scary. Clearly I prefer to be in the air-conditioning most of the time! Give me a cool floor, a soft bed, and some treats and toys, and I'm a happy camper. Are you looking for a best pal like me? Let's meet and let me show you my happy face. Contact info@redcollar.org to get the ball rolling. PS: Check out my brother Smith's bio too. We'd make a great ready-made pair. Two are even better than one! Age: 1 yrs Weight: 49 lbs Dogs? yes Cats? unknown Kids? yes Needs Foster? yes

More About Golden Labrador Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Shar Pei / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Well, hello there. Normally I would advise you to never point out a lady's wrinkles, but I think my smooshiness is part of what makes me special! Don't you agree? Let's just call them pleats, shall we? Underneath these precious pleats of mine is the sweetest girl you'll ever find. I love to give kisses, and would be honored to be your leading lady! I once was a shy pup, but I've decided it's much nicer to get lots of cuddles and loving! I've become quite a people person! I also get along well around other dogs. And cats? Who cares! I really don't seem to mind them being around. I'm easy on the leash, and I love to go for walks. I'm ready for a new scene, and a life full of happiness and adventure (and leisure, of course!) We should meet soon. I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship! Contact info@redcollar.org and ask for Ingrid. Age: 2 yrs Weight: 37 lbs Dogs? ok Cats? ok Kids? ok Needs Foster? Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Natasha is being fostered in Houston, TX. She is available for out-of-state adoptions. Please see below for details. Oh, Hello! I'm Natasha, and I'm here about the dog job. I am quite highly qualified, as you will see by my resume. My Qualifications: * Lots of experience at being a very sweet pup. * Professional-level Cookie-Taster (but not really all that picky!). * Sweetest smile ever. * Total Smarty-Pants. * World-Class Cuddle-Bug. * Excellent Face Kisser (if I don't say so myself). * Great with other dogs. * Devoted Taker of Naps. I'd just love to be part of a real family. As you can see, I'm a total sweet-heart, and I'm also quite adorable. Choose me, and I will be a constant source of smiles for you. I will happily greet you at the door, and make it my mission to ensure you are always well-snuggled. Contact info@redcollar.org so we can meet! Age: 2 yrs Weight: 45 lbs Dogs? ok Cats? unknown Kids? ok Needs Foster? yes Many of our adoptions are to out-of-area adopters. The process is, for the most part, the same as it is for in-town adoptions. The adoption fee to out-of-state destinations in the U.S. is $550, which includes air transport, traveling crate, and health certificate. The adoption fee for Canadian destinations is $600 (Canadian). (Please note that there is an additional estimated $80 pick up charge in Canada). RCR takes care of all of the flight arrangements. Because of the distance, it is not possible for you to meet the dog, in person, unless you come to Houston. We can often send videos and/or do FaceTime interviews to allow you to “meet” the dog. Why should you consider adopting a dog from Houston? Houston is the #2 kill city in the U.S. City and County shelters often take in a combined 200-300 animals per day. The number of homeless pets and resulting euthanasias are staggering -- the average "live release rate" from Houston area shelters is only about 35-50%. Houston is estimated to have over 1 million homeless animals. Over 100,000 are killed in Harris Co shelters every year. Red Collar Rescue volunteers work tirelessly to save as many as we can, but the Houston area is saturated with so many pets in need of a home and not enough adopters. To put it simply, we encourage out of state adoptions because it helps us save more lives. We hope that you will consider one of our many adoptable pets who are waiting for a second chance at a forever home - wherever it may be!

I had a bit of a rough time living on the streets, and did not like being at the city pound either. I was just not super happy to be there, so my days were numbered. But some volunteers took the time to get to know me a little, and saw my sweet side shining through. Then Red Collar Rescue saved me and got me out of the pound to safety! I'm quite a stunner in the looks department. I'm a good boy, kind of quiet and introspective. I am shy when first meeting people, but when I get to know you and trust you, I will be your best friend for life! Quick moves and lots of activity scare me, so I would probably be best in a home without children. I get along with dogs, and I love my foster K9 siblings. I've become a pretty good snuggler in my foster home too! I'm calm and gentle and a total Prince Charming, just waiting for you! I can't wait to meet my new forever family! I am Miss Congeniality and love to take walks, play with toys and cuddle. I have a mega-watt smile (think Julia Roberts) and bright brown eyes that sparkle. I am great with other dogs, kids, adults too! Wanna go on an adventure together? Let's go! (and if my brother Stetson can go along with us, that'd be even better! ) Email info@redcollar.org to meet me! Age: 3 yrs Weight: 40 lbs Dogs? ok Kids? ok Cats? unknown Needs foster? yes UPDATE from Hattie's sponsor: Hattie prefers Stetson's company to that of other dogs - she even likes to be crated with him. However she is happy to let Stetson nap in their crate alone if she can nap on her human's bed! She craves attention and loves to be petted... she even follows me when I visit! --- I am being fostered in HOUSTON,TX. I am available for out of state adoption and my adoption fee is $495 which covers my vetting, transportation, travel kennel, and required travel papers. Please email info@redcollar.org if you have any questions or if you'd like to make me a part of your family! Most of the dogs in our program are eligible for out of state adoptions. Visit https://goo.gl/58iMsO to view all of our adoptable pets! Why should you consider adopting a dog from Houston? Houston is the #2 kill city in the U.S. The City Pound (“BARC”) often takes in 150-200 pets per day either as strays or owner surrenders. Almost a dozen other area shelters and pounds also take in dozens of homeless pets each day and many do not adopt to the public but transfer only to rescue groups. The number of homeless pets and resulting euthanasias are staggering -- the average "live release rate" from Houston area shelters is only about 35-50%. In addition, RCR works closely with the Houston Police Department on many cruelty case dogs. We are often a last resort for dogs who have faced unimaginable abuse and negligence, only to face euthanasia after being confiscated by the city government. Red Collar Rescue volunteers work tirelessly to save as many as we can, but the Houston area is saturated with so many pets in need of a home and not enough adopters. To put it simply, we encourage out of state adoptions because it helps us save more lives. I am patient, kind, affectionate, walk nicely on a leash and like toys. I am well-mannered and my sweet smile will just melt your heart! So let's meet, I know you'll love me! He has learned to "sit" for a treat and has now figured out that backing into a human will get his butt scratched. Belly rubs are a must. He has made friends with a couple of laid-back male pups and seems to prefer mellow dogs. Stetson and Hattie do not have to be touching each other 24/7 but they like to know where the other is.

I was hoping to catch a flight to a better life, but alas, I didn't have any money to buy a ticket. Turns out my guardian angel was right here in Houston. I have several sponsors and a kind foster mom, now. I'm a healthy 1 yr old boy, all ready to find my forever home. I am very, very friendly, super handsome, and love people, toys, and playing with my K9 foster brother. I can play and play. I will be excellent in a household, where the family will want to include me in activities...especially playing fetch, taking hikes, walking, jogging, etc. But, don't get fooled into thinking that I'm only about playing. I do like to snuggle and be petted. Chill out time is always nice. I am very gregarious and think that life should be an adventure. I love meeting new people and dogs. Life is to be embraced, is my motto! I am starting obedience training and have shown to be a quick study. I have learned to “sit to say please” and I can tell you...I'm quite polite. I do need a little reinforcement from time to time, as I'm still a bit of a teenager and I need reminders. My sponsors have said that they will pay for 2 training sessions or a group obedience class to help my new family learn how to continue my training. That way, you'll know what I know!. I am being fostered in HOUSTON, TX. I am available for out-of-state adoptions. Please email: info@redcollar.org for more information. She is available for out of state adoption.** ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hi, my name is Chloe! My owner got sick and could no longer take care of me. The nice doctor at the clinic was kind enough to let me stay here until I find a new home. At first, I was not so good with other dogs but now they let me go to daycare very day with other dogs and I realized they're not that bad. As a matter of fact, it's alot of fun to run and play all day! I am very sweet and love pets and cuddle time. I am loyal and will love you forever if you choose me to be your new companion. I would prefer a home with another dog, and I especially love boy dogs! Wanna meet me? Email savapetwac@yahoo.com I LOVE other dogs, belly rubs, cuddling with my humans, going for walks, sun bathing, eating, giving kisses, going for car rides, being included in all family activities I HAVE A loving and gentle disposition, a tail that wags incessantly and kisses waiting for you all the time. I also have one eye that doesn’t work and that requires eye drops daily, and since my mouth/jaw was injured prior to being rescued, I do have a minor snoring problem. I have excellent hearing and a strong bark and will alert my family when I hear unfamiliar noises or sense that something just isn’t right. I GET ALONG WITH all people and dogs that I have met so far (and I’ve met many). I am comfortable setting appropriate boundaries with overly-zealous dogs. I WOULD RATHER NOT share meal/eating locations with other dogs as I am a rapid eater and have a ferocious appetite. I can get a little bossy when it comes to food. I would definitely prefer not to be in a shelter again as I am the perfect (easy) house pet. My foster mom has had to kennel me a few times while traveling and although I prefer to be in a home 24/7, I am quite flexible. I NEED to be in a home where I can be affectionate. I love attention but am very satisfied just lying next to your feet while you work or watch TV. Although I have learned some basic commands, I could use some additional obedience training. I AM an easy to please, and eager to please affectionate and happy middle aged girl who loves my humans and responds well to correction. My early years were challenging, however, I am beyond thankful to all who rescued me and provided me with love. I am looking forward to “paying it forward” from here on. A PERFECT DAY FOR ME INCLUDES a couple of short walks and/or car rides, a few belly rubs, snuggling with my human(s), a nutritious meal or two each day, and laying on a soft rug, dog bed, or soft human furniture (if allowed) next to my humans while they work or relax. I PREFER NOT TO have to ruff-house with other dogs though I am good at escaping to my own quiet place) IF YOUR FAMILY is looking for an easy, trustworthy, calm and affectionate family member who aim to please, then ask for Chloe! As you might expect, I am the (slightly) more adventurous one. We are quite a team of snuggle-buggles. We were both quite shy when we were rescued from the streets, and then were terrified at the pound, finding comfort only in each other. But, Red Collar Rescue came along, and we got a foster mom that loved and loved on us, and now we are coming out of our shells. We live with some other dogs... a group of pups affectionately known as "the littles". We love to play with the others, but mostly we love to snuggle and be near our person. We are a bonded pair, so we should go to our forever home together. You know what they say; two is better than one! We keep each other company, and you will get twice the love!
