Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Carol! She is a lovely, tender-hearted four-year old. This beautiful girl has the biggest, deep brown eyes that will capture you instantly. Pair those peepers with her soft cream and tan badger markings on a soft white coat, and you can’t help but fall in love. Carol is good with other dogs, and she would love a big doggy companion to play with and hang out. She doesn’t tolerate small dogs that tend to steal her toys. She even likes cats! To show her affection for her fellow canines and felines, she regularly cleans their ears! Carol would like to live in a quiet household where things are calm and consistent. She is house trained and leash trained. She can be a little shy upon meeting new people, so she would do great with someone who will make her feel confident and loved. After you win her trust, she will show her appreciation by becoming the best, loving, affectionate family dog. Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. More About Great Pyrenees Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Mixed (long coat). Sookie is a beautiful Pyr girl, born approximately November 2015, with white fur as soft as a bunny rabbit. Sookie is very active and loves playing with her foster brothers and seeking out affection from her foster humans. She knows how sit, down, comes when called, is leash and crate trained and loves mint flavored dental treats. She responds well to voice commands and pays attention. She sometimes naps inside her crate with the door open, but she's even happier snuggling with you on the couch. Sookie is young and would do well with an older male canine companion to help her learn how to be a dog. She would work equally well as an only dog provided she gets enough exercise. She prefers a cat-free home and wants to be the only girl around. Like all young dogs, Sookie needs lots of attention and guidance from her humans. Won’t you be the one? Maya is a special girl with beautiful eyes that look straight to your soul. She has such a sweet disposition that everyone will want her. But Maya is waiting for the perfect person to be selected just for her. One who will always be considerate of her needs. Maya has hip dysplasia and will require joint supplements for the rest of her life. The fewer stairs the better. But don't think that hip dysplasia slows her down when it comes to getting where she wants to be. She has no problem getting onto couch, ottoman and love seat. She's a lounger and lounging in the company of her people is one of her favorite activities. Maya's person also needs to be sensitive to her fear of storms. She will settle right away once put in her crate. Hips and storms aside, Maya is a perfect girl. She will be a wonderful match for someone looking for a lower energy companion to love on. Maya has a sweet disposition and looking for the right home where she will be loved. Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (medium coat). Introducing the beautiful Anna, born approximately January 2013.She is a sweet and loving lady who loves to cuddle. And she'll need all the cuddling she can get as she goes through heart worm treatment. In Texas the best way to say "I love you" to your dog is to protect them from this nasty parasite. Seeing an innocent dog like Anna through this treatment affords a bonding opportunity that cannot be measured. She will always know it was you who cared enough to help her get better. Anna is looking forward to being an inside dog with someone to spoil her. At 4 years, she has left those silly puppy habits behind. She is housetrained and walks nicely on her leash. She gets along with other dogs and might like to have a fur friend to keep her company. She loves her humans and could be an only pet as well. Anna is ready for love and waiting patiently for someone to take a chance on her. Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Breed: Great Pyrenees

      Location: Garland, TX
Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Dirk. Born approximately August 1, 2013. Dirk is a tripod sweet soul who has had a bit of a rough start in life. He above all wants to be loved and be accepted and feel secure. Dirk does not want you to feel sorry for him. He wants and needs a family who will treat him like a normal dog and provide him with a secure, stable life. Due to his past and his physical infirmities, Dirk would do best with humans who are experienced dog owners with knowledge of dog behavior and body language. He would not be suitable for a family with children with lots of activities and going ons because while Dirk can get around reasonably well on 3 legs, he is not nearly as physically strong or robust as his size might suggest. He also has high prey drive and thus cannot be in a home with cats or other small critter pets. Dirk is friendly to humans and is pretty responsive to basic commands (come, sit, down, crate, go) for a pyr. He loves to be brushed (he is equally ok with a comb, undercoat rake, pin brush and slicker brush). Also, since he’s missing the right rear leg, he particularly appreciates it if you would give him nice scratches on the whole right side of his body a few times a day :-) He is sensitive around his hip and tail area so grooming around those areas should be done slowly and gently and taking cues from him as he will let you know. Dirk can get along with other dogs, but they must be of a particular temperament. Dirk had little to no socialization growing up and spent a significant amount of his early life at the end of a chain. As a result, what he looks for in a canine companion is a dog who is confident, laid back, and nonreactive that can anchor him and provide him with a sense of security. His canine companion can be either male or female, so long as he/she has the right type of personality for Dirk. Dirk is not one for a novice dog owner. But if you are an experienced dog owner looking for a special soul to share your life with, please consider giving Dirk a chance at a love filled home that he deserves. Dirk is available for local adoption only. Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Smirnoff , born approximately November 2015, is an amazing Great Pyrenees. He is a calm laid back boy, a little on the shy side. Smirnoff and his sister Skyy were not given much human interaction but he is very curious, and will come around after a few belly scratches and words of encouragement. He enjoys snuggle time -- especially getting his head, belly and ears scratched. He barks when there’s something to bark at, but he’s not an excessive barker. Smirnoff is trained to a pet door and is leashed trained. He is a toddler and is bonded with his sister so they will be adopted together. He also needs to have a home where someone is home at least part time until he grows out if the toddler phase. Smirnoff has a delightful, happy disposition, loves to play and gets along great with all he meets. We are unsure how he is with cats, but we can always test him if needed. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). My name is Skyy, born approximately November 2015. As far as trendy fashion accessories go, I think I may be the best buy out there! I'll match with any outfit, as I'm all white with gray/beige swirled accents. I love being anywhere my humans are. I'm pet door trained and leash trained. I am a toddler and love playing tug-a war with my brother, Smirnoff and other fosters in the home, and keeping the squirrels and rabbits at bay. I am bonded with my brother, Smirnoff, so we will need to be adopted together. We are still toddlers and will need a home where someone is there at least part time. Strangers sometimes make me a little leery, but I suppose that's not a bad thing in this day and age - ha! I warm up to people pretty quickly and would love to have people of my own who will help me learn the ways of the world. My brother and I were not well taken care of before we were rescued but I am learning humans can be good, especially when they come with treats. I'm hoping for a perfect home that will make everyone feel better, and I know I have a lot of love to give to just the right family. Could it be yours? Born approximately February 2015, this beautiful 60 pound Pocket Pyr is going to make someone a special pet. She was pulled from a shelter so we do not know her background but we do know she is a sweetheart. She is well mannered and house trained. She gets along with other dogs, preferring males, and would like a playmate or at least a promise to have a chance to play often with others. Above all, she loves human companionship and attention. This is not a girl who will be content waiting all day for someone to come home to give her just a little attention. She wants to be part of your world. She wants to go on adventures with you and then find time for cuddles. Dora's first dream came true. She was rescued. But she is still dreaming of a home of her own filled with unconditional love. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Mixed (medium coat). Well hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart! This beautiful creature came to rescue as a stray and caring mother of two puppies. She is around a year and half and on the smallish size at 60lbs. She has been living on the road, protecting her small litter. There is no telling the dangers she has endured. Upon rescue she got a big long bath and as soon as she knew her puppies were in good hands, she slept for nearly two days straight. She is now in her cozy temporary home waiting for the perfect person to discover her. The puppies have since been homed, her job is done. She was a very good mother and deserves to land the very best home possible. In her foster home she has learned her house manners and how to walk nicely on the leash. She is a smart girl and will prosper with continued positive reinforcement. Mary Lou is a super sweet girl who wants to be loved. She is very gentle and gently hug you. She will need lots of reassuring as she builds confidence. Someone who is home often and accessible will suit her best. She still so young and has much to learn. Regarding other dogs, she appreciates a slow introduction and a moderate energy level in a playmate. Mary Lou is very athletic and will require either an 8' wooden fence or wrought iron fencing, as going over 6' fencing is not even a challenge for her. This sweet girl has been through a lot but still has much to give. She should be with someone who will never take for granted the road she had to take to get here. She is an amazing dog and is going to be a wonderful companion. Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
