Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Carol! She is a lovely, tender-hearted, beautiful girl with the biggest, deep brown eyes that will capture you instantly. Pair those peepers with her soft cream and tan badger markings on a soft white coat, and you can’t help but fall in love. Born around February 14, 2012, Carol is good with other dogs, and she would love a big doggy companion to play with and hang out. She doesn’t tolerate small dogs that tend to steal her toys. She even likes cats! To show her affection for her fellow canines and felines, she regularly cleans their ears! Carol would like to live in a quiet household where things are calm and consistent. She is house trained and leash trained. She can be a little shy upon meeting new people, so she would do great with someone who will make her feel confident and loved. After you win her trust, she will show her appreciation by becoming the best, loving, affectionate family dog. This sweet, sensitive girl is available for adoption only in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees! More About Great Pyrenees Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Great Pyrenees
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Pick a pair of perfect Pyrs! Smirnoff was born approximately November 2015. We did a DNA test on him, and he is 100% Great Pyrenees. He is bonded with his sister, Skyy, so they must be adopted together. They are still toddlers and need a home where a person is there at least part-time, until Smirnoff and Skyy grow into calmer adults. Smirnoff is an amazing boy. He is calm, laid back, and a little on the shy side. He was not given much human interaction before coming into rescue, but he is very curious, and will come around after a few belly scratches and words of encouragement. He enjoys snuggle time - especially getting his head, belly, and ears scratched. Smirnoff barks when there’s something to bark at, but he’s not an excessive barker. He is trained to a pet door and is leashed trained. Smirnoff has a delightful, happy disposition, loves to play and gets along great with all he meets. We are unsure how he is with cats, but we can always test him if needed. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Pick a pair of perfect Pyrs! My name is Skyy, and I’m a girl, born approximately November 2015. My foster mommy DNA'd me, and I am certified 100% Great Pyrenees! I am bonded with my brother, Smirnoff, so we have to be adopted as a pair, please. We are so happy together! We are still toddlers and need a home where someone is there at least part-time. I love being anywhere my humans are. I'm pet-door trained and leash trained. I am a toddler and love playing tug-a war with the other dogs in my foster home, and keeping the squirrels and rabbits at bay. Got a pond or creek nearby? I adore running through knee-deep water and dashing about! Strangers sometimes make me a little leery, but I suppose that's not a bad thing in this day and age - ha! I warm up to people pretty quickly, and would love to have people of my own who will help me learn the ways of the world. My brother and I were not well taken care of before we were rescued, but I am learning humans can be good, especially when they come with treats. I'm hoping for a perfect home that will make everyone feel better, and I know I have a lot of love to give to just the right family. Could it be yours? Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Mixed (medium coat). Pick a pair of pretty Pyrs, and say hello to Maya! Born approximately January 2013, this beautiful Great Pyrenees mix is ready for her forever home. Ideally, we would like to keep her with her sister, Anna. Would you consider adopting both girls? They are great with kids, cats, and dogs of all sizes. Maya is a special girl with beautiful eyes that look straight to your soul. She has such a sweet disposition that everyone will want her. She is breathing rug, gentle giant, very quiet, and simply just lays around waiting for cuddles. But Maya is waiting for the perfect person to be selected just for her - one who will always be considerate of her needs. Maya has hip dysplasia and will require joint supplements for the rest of her life. The fewer stairs the better. But don't think that hip dysplasia slows her down when it comes to getting where she wants to be. She has no problem getting onto couch, ottoman, and love seat. She's a lounger, and lounging in the company of her people is one of her favorite activities. Maya's person also needs to be sensitive to her fear of storms. She will settle right away once put in her crate. Hips and storms aside, Maya is a perfect girl. She will be a wonderful match for someone looking for a lower energy companion to love on. Maya has a sweet disposition and looking for the right home where she will be loved. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Harrison Ford! He is also lovingly known as Harry. This beautiful Great Pyrenees was born around July 1, 2016. When he first came into rescue at age 7 months, he was a scrawny, shivering, scared 36 pounds. Since then he has transformed beautifully. His coat has become thick and plush, and he’s up to a healthy 90 pounds! He is a strong, solid boy. Harry still has a very long road ahead toward emotional healing. He is still terrified of strangers, loud noises, and any change in his environment. He is sadly frightened beyond belief of anyone new in the house. Harry’s foster family has been working with him passionately to get him to trust humans. He is very loving with his foster mom, and he likes the rest of foster family, He does well at home, and is making tiny incremental steps in building trust and gaining confidence. He loves the other three big dogs in his current home, and he loves going on walks around the neighborhood. However, he is not yet ready to face all of his fears outside a home. He is scared for his life when off-leash at a dog park, so dog parks are absolutely out of the question for Harry for now. This fragile guy is available for adoption only in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He will do best in a quiet home with another canine companion and a family that is calm and nurturing. He needs a very special compassionate adopter who is willing to take it one day at a time. OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR PUPPY ADOPTION: 1) PUPPIES WILL ONLY BE PLACED IN HOMES WITH YOUTHFUL, PLAYFUL, DOGS. This helps integrate the dog into your household easier by giving the pup a mentor. 2) In addition to the youthful playful dog, someone MUST also be home at least part of the day. Please do not apply for a puppy if you are gone 8-10 hours a day. It is not good situation for you or the puppy. 3) You must have plans in place to socialize your puppy properly. 4) These puppies are not livestock dogs. They must be family pets that are allowed inside the home. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Ideally, we would like to keep her with her sister, Maya. Would you consider adopting both girls? They are great with kids, cats, and dogs of all sizes. Anna is very healthy and loves to play outside. She is a sweet and loving lady who loves to cuddle. And she'll need all the cuddling she can get as she goes through heartworm treatment. In Texas the best way to say "I love you" to your dog is to protect them from this nasty parasite. Seeing an innocent dog like Anna through this treatment affords a bonding opportunity that cannot be measured. She will always know it was you who cared enough to help her get better. Anna is looking forward to being an inside dog with someone to spoil her. At 4 years, she has left those silly puppy habits behind. She is housetrained and walks nicely on her leash. She gets along with other dogs and might like to have a fur friend to keep her company. She loves her humans and could be an only pet as well. Anna is ready for love and is waiting patiently for someone to take a chance on her. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet lovely Barron! His foster mommy calls him Fozzy Bear’un! He is a young dog with an old soul. We estimate he was born around August 13, 2015. He is a big boy at 100 lbs! This sweet-natured Great Pyrenees gentleman is the most laid back love bug you'll ever hope to meet! He is housebroken and loves, loves kids!! He is great with male and female dogs of sizes. Any fellow canine companions need to be of the sweet and kind variety. He hasn't met any cats. When not inside with his humans, Barron loves to be outside, content with keeping watch at the back door or gate, warning you of all intruders, squirrels, leaves, raindrops, and more. His former owner surrendered Barron to rescue for seemingly sudden aggression. After a stay in boarding and some training, it was discovered that Barron has eye problems. The apparent aggression was because he couldn't see people "sneaking" up on him! After seeing a doggy eye doctor, it was determined that Barron has a small cataract in his right eye and chronic dry eye in his left, with goo build up. A few minutes of eye meds a few times a day is all he needs, and he needs this treatment for the rest of his life. His new human must be willing to do this for him. It's really easy and he's a good boy while you do it. Barron’s new family will need to be patient with this gorgeous, gentle boy. They must always be cognizant of his vision loss, and be careful to approach him on the side where he can see. Barron is available for adoption only in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Is he the boy for you? SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. Posted Breed: Golden Retriever / Great Pyrenees / Mixed (long coat). Meet Sam! This cutie-pie also answers to “Spike.” He is likely part Golden Retriever because of his beautiful chestnut-colored coat and his body shape and size. He is likely part Great Pyrenees because of his hind dew claws and his independent think-for-himself personality. To adopt Sam, contact adopt@goldenretrievers.org (rather than SPIN). Adorable Sam loves massages, so get ready to sink your fingers into his lovely coat! He loves running 90 to nothing, especially through water puddles! He will sit and come for a treat. He stops at doors and waits politely to be allowed through. He walks well on a leash. He travels well, but needs help loading in a vehicle. Sam’s left eye sees outward rather than to the front, so when something is right in front of his nose, he cannot see it. His eye specialist explained that Sam’s eyes are not positioned normally, but his overall vision is fine. His judgment of distance and depth perception are not the best, so his new family will need to always make allowances for that. Sam is hesitant with other dogs, but that generally comes from the other dog. With his eye issue he does not greet or present himself in normal (I’m a calm dog let’s sniff each other) dog fashion, which sometimes gives the other dog a weird vibe. The ideal family for Sam would be active, patient, dog-savvy, have teenage or older kids, and have owned a dog before. Someone with previous Pyr experience is a bonus. He would probably be happier as an only dog. For Sam's complete history, go to http://www.goldenretrievers.org/our-dogs/spike-16-149-m-5-years. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet marvelous Mitchell! He is an absolutely gorgeous Great Pyrenees born around April 16, 2014. And he is a big boy at 95 pounds! Mitchell exhibits nothing less than typical Pyr confidence, trust, and adaptability. He loves every person he meets. As a laid-back dude, he prefers the company of human adults over children; the young’ns bring too much excitement for his taste. He likes to play with his doggy companions in the cool of a morning, then he wants to chillax the rest of his day. One or two female canine playmates suit him just fine – no big animal crowds for this relaxed boy. He has one other favor to ask: can his dog playmates be Great Pyrenees? He doesn’t seem to like his Rottweiler foster siblings, while quite enjoying his Pyr buddies. Mitchell is house-trained and ready for his forever home. He still has a playful side but has left those puppy habits behind, so there’s need to worry about him eating your furniture or your slippers! Just don’t try to crate him – he absolutely will not go in a crate – and there’s no need for it in his case. His wish list is small. He just wants someone to keep him safe and love him unconditionally. Simple as that. Mitchell is available for adoption only in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Saint Bernard / Mixed (short coat). Meet Neffie! She is a gorgeous Great Pyrenees mix with striking color features. Weighing in at 125 pounds, she is most likely mixed with some sort of mountain dog or Saint Bernard. Neffie was born around November 1, 2012 and still has quite a bit of energy. Take her on a walk or to play outside, and you'll see her puppy side come out! When she’s done romping, she loves to be under your hand as much as possible, soaking up all the love you have to give. She is a couch cuddler most of the time. She is a low-maintenance girl and is super-eager to please. Neffie has bothersome air-borne allergies that cause her skin to itch like crazy. This is usually a life-long condition that can be controlled with allergy medicine. We have placed dogs like her in the southwestern states in the drier desert-type environment, and their allergy symptoms virtually disappeared. She was in rough shape before coming into rescue. Her allergies and itching caused various skin conditions from which she is recovering well. She had joint stiffness from years of lying on hard floors, lack of good care, and lack of exercise. It would be great if her new home doesn’t have stairs, and if it has carpet or rugs to help her get traction. Because of her large size, Neffie would do best in a home without small children. We don’t want them getting accidentally knocked down. She gets along well with other dogs. She would be happy with a doggie companion, or as an only dog. She’s even good with cats! SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. Breed: Great Pyrenees
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Dirk! This gorgeous Great Pyrenees boy was born approximately August 1, 2013. Dirk is a sweet soul who had a bit of a rough start in life - he has lost one hind leg. Dirk does not want you to feel sorry for him. He wants and needs a family who will treat him like a normal dog and provide him with a secure, stable life. Above all, he wants to be loved and be accepted and feel secure. Due to his past and his physical infirmities, Dirk will do best with humans who are experienced dog owners with knowledge of dog behavior and body language. He is not be suitable for a family with children with lots of activities and goings-on, because while Dirk can get around reasonably well on 3 legs, he is not nearly as physically strong or robust as his size might suggest. He also has high prey drive and thus cannot be in a home with cats or other small critter pets. Dirk is friendly to humans and is pretty responsive to basic commands (come, sit, down, crate, go) for a Pyr. He loves to be brushed: he is equally ok with a comb, undercoat rake, pin brush and slicker brush. Also, since he’s missing his hind leg, he particularly appreciates it when you give him nice scratches on the whole right side of his body a few times a day He is sensitive around his hip and tail area, so grooming around those areas should be done slowly and gently while taking cues from him, as he will let you know. Dirk can get along with other dogs, but they must be of a particular temperament. Dirk had little to no socialization growing up and spent a significant amount of his early life at the end of a chain. As a result, what he looks for in a canine companion is a male or female dog who is confident, laid back, nonreactive, and can anchor him and provide him with a sense of security. Dirk is not one for a novice dog owner. But if you are an experienced dog owner looking for a special soul to share your life with, please consider giving Dirk a chance at a love filled home that he deserves. Dirk is available for adoption in the Dallas/Fort Worth area only. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
