Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Carol! She is a lovely, tender-hearted four-year old. This beautiful girl has the biggest, deep brown eyes that will capture you instantly. Pair those peepers with her soft cream and tan badger markings on a soft white coat, and you can’t help but fall in love. Carol is good with other dogs, and she would love a big doggy companion to play with and hang out. She doesn’t tolerate small dogs that tend to steal her toys. She even likes cats! To show her affection for her fellow canines and felines, she regularly cleans their ears! Carol would like to live in a quiet household where things are calm and consistent. She is house trained and leash trained. She can be a little shy upon meeting new people, so she would do great with someone who will make her feel confident and loved. After you win her trust, she will show her appreciation by becoming the best, loving, affectionate family dog. Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. More About Great Pyrenees Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Baby
      Location: Garland, TX
Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Anatolian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). The name Popeye likely puts in mind large strong muscles, and while it does describe this big strong puppy, Popeye is sweet as candy and has a heart of gold! Popeye came to us from Louisiana. He was found wandering in a pasture with an eye injury. Unfortunately, we were not able to save the one eye, but this hasn't slowed him down at all. In his very short life, Popeye has been through so much and finally enjoying what it means to be a 'puppy'. Popeye is an incredibly sweet boy who loves to play with everyone and he loved his belly rubs! He is dog and cat friendly; however he hasn't been around children yet. He likes to play with stuffed toys and do typical puppy things like untying shoelaces and giving lots of puppy kisses. Popeye is currently working on his leash training, crate training and he is almost potty trained. While he is currently being trained and can sit on command, occasionally his puppy exuberance and the renowned PyrPaw still gets the best of him with a jump for joy. He would do best in a home with another large dog to be his guide and with a family that will give lots of affection! Popeye is growing fast, microchipped, and ready to start a bright future. There is a lot for a puppy to learn so he will need to find a home where someone is very available to him in these early days. Like all small puppies, he will need someone who can be home with him a lot and provide him with love, patience and boundaries to help him become a loyal companion. This cute little fella is not going to be little for long. Now is the best time to jump in and continue mentoring him. It is going to be so fun watching him fill out and fit into those big paws. Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). As far as trendy fashion accessories go, I think I may be the best buy out there! My name is Skyy and I'm a 10-12 month old female Great Pyrenees. I'll match with any outfit, as I'm all white with gray/beige swirled accents. I love being anywhere my humans are. I'm pet door trained and doing better on the leash. I am a toddler and love playing tug-a war with my brother and foster sister, and keeping the squirrels and rabbits at bay, so I will need another canine companion (or my brother) young enough to play with me and someone home at least part time until I am old enough to be left alone. Strangers sometimes make me a little leery, but I suppose that's not a bad thing in this day and age - ha! I warm up to people pretty quickly and would love to have people of my own who will help me learn the ways of the world. My brother and I were not well taken care of before we were rescued but I am learning humans can be good, especially when they come with treats. I'm hoping for a perfect home that will make everyone feel better, and I know I have a lot of love to give to just the right family. Could it be yours? Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Hi! My name is Vanna and I'm a somewhat exotic beauty. I was found on my own in the Red Oak area, so I'm a little shy at first. Someone in my early life decided that I didn't need most of my outer right ear and part of my left. It makes me look a little different, but my foster mom thinks I'm absolutely gorgeous! I don't miss that flesh, and it doesn't hurt me in any way. I'm about a year old, but I'm pretty laid back and calm for a young'un. As I said, it takes me a little while to decide to trust you, because people apparently haven't always been so nice to me. But I'm getting used to being spoiled! I have a really good playmate my own size in my foster home, so I really would like to have one in my forever home too. She keeps me from being lonely when foster mom has to work. I really like to play with toys and I'll even fetch for a time or two! And I'm kind of fond of the couch, too, if that's not a problem. I haven't been around kids, but I should be okay if introduced slowly and respectfully. I haven't been around cats either. I'm spayed and up to date on all my shots and I'm looking for the perfect home where I can be loved on and love back! Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He does well with other dogs, but would be fine as an only dog so long as he doesn't have to spend a long time alone. He is learning how to walk on a leash and doing very well. He shows no interest in cats, cattle or horses, and is good around kids. He is just the cutest boy ever and will even share your bed if you wish. Eddy will be your steady boy. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Mixed (medium coat). Well hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart! This beautiful creature came to rescue as a stray and caring mother of two puppies. She is around a year and half and on the smallish size at 60lbs. She has been living on the road, protecting her small litter. There is no telling the dangers she has endured. Upon rescue she got a big long bath and as soon as she knew her puppies were in good hands, she slept for nearly two days straight. She is now in her cozy temporary home waiting for the perfect person to discover her. The puppies have since been homed, her job is done. She was a very good mother and deserves to land the very best home possible. In her foster home she has learned her house manners and how to walk nicely on the leash. She is a smart girl and will prosper with continued positive reinforcement. Mary Lou is a super sweet girl who wants to be loved. She is very gentle and gently hug you. She will need lots of reassuring as she builds confidence. Someone who is home often and accessible will suit her best. She still so young and has much to learn. Regarding other dogs, she appreciates a slow introduction and a moderate energy level in a playmate. Mary Lou is very athletic and will require either an 8' wooden fence or wrought iron fencing, as going over 6' fencing is not even a challenge for her. This sweet girl has been through a lot but still has much to give. She should be with someone who will never take for granted the road she had to take to get here. She is an amazing dog and is going to be a wonderful companion. Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (medium coat). Say hi to Jerry. At the young age of 10 months, Jerry was found guarding a junk yard and saved by rescue. Now he gets to play and be a puppy again. He is not your typical puppy though. Not mischievous, energetic, or feisty. He is very well behaved, especially for his young age. He can be trusted home alone for several hours without accidents, or chewing/tearing anything up. He is potty trained, walks well on a leash, does great loading up in the SUV and enjoys car rides. Jerry wants to please you so he learns very quickly, with some yummy treats he learned to sit and shake in one day! He is very calm most of the time, and loves taking long naps and cuddling with kids. He patrols the house, walking the halls, checking the all the rooms and doors. He's not an excessive barker, but will bark when someone is at the door, or if he hears an unusual noise. He needs a somewhat playful doggy companion to romp around the yard with once or twice a day. He would climb a chain link fence in a heartbeat so he needs a secure yard with a high wood fence, as he is quite the agile boy and able to climb. He does really well with other non-aggressive dogs (he will reciprocate aggressive behavior). You have to watch him around the front door, because he is a runner. Jerry is learning not to beg for food, and he's made a lot of progress. He went to a pumpkin patch and he was great in a large crowd and with lots of toddlers. Jerry is a dream dog, and is going to grow up to be an incredible Pyr. Jerry is just a loveable guy who wants nothing more than to be loved and have fun all day! He will be a great pet for an active family. Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. Smirnoff and his sister Skyy were not given much human interaction but he is very curious, and will come around afte r a few belly scratches and words of encouragement. He enjoys snuggle time -- especially getting his head, belly and ears scratched. He barks when there’s something to bark at, but he’s not an excessive barker. Smirnoff is trained to a pet door and currently working on his leash training. He is a toddler and will need a canine companion (or his sister) who is young enough to rough house with, and someone home at least part time until he grows out if the toddler phase. Dirk

      Breed: Great Pyrenees
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Garland, TX
Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Dirk. Born approximately August 1, 2013. Dirk is a tripod sweet soul who has had a bit of a rough start in life. He above all wants to be loved and be accepted and feel secure. Dirk does not want you to feel sorry for him. He wants and needs a family who will treat him like a normal dog and provide him with a secure, stable life. Due to his past and his physical infirmities, Dirk would do best with humans who are experienced dog owners with knowledge of dog behavior and body language. He would not be suitable for a family with children with lots of activities and going ons because while Dirk can get around reasonably well on 3 legs, he is not nearly as physically strong or robust as his size might suggest. He also has high prey drive and thus cannot be in a home with cats or other small critter pets. Dirk is friendly to humans and is pretty responsive to basic commands (come, sit, down, crate, go) for a pyr. He loves to be brushed (he is equally ok with a comb, undercoat rake, pin brush and slicker brush). Also, since he’s missing the right rear leg, he particularly appreciates it if you would give him nice scratches on the whole right side of his body a few times a day :-) He is sensitive around his hip and tail area so grooming around those areas should be done slowly and gently and taking cues from him as he will let you know. Dirk can get along with other dogs, but they must be of a particular temperament. Dirk had little to no socialization growing up and spent a significant amount of his early life at the end of a chain. As a result, what he looks for in a canine companion is a dog who is confident, laid back, and nonreactive that can anchor him and provide him with a sense of security. His canine companion can be either male or female, so long as he/she has the right type of personality for Dirk. Dirk is not one for a novice dog owner. But if you are an experienced dog owner looking for a special soul to share your life with, please consider giving Dirk a chance at a love filled home that he deserves. Dirk is available for local adoption only. Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere.
