Posted Breed: Greyhound. Sugar Plum is one of the recent brood moms that we welcomed for Mother's Day. She is a very sweet, friendly and a quiet lady. She had 18 puppies and has a damaged salivary gland (causing swelling under her chin) which we are having evaluated and treated. We've treated greys with this in the past and they do just fine. Sugar Plum is 12 years old. She is cat workable in that she could be directed away from the cat.

Breed Group: Hound

Height (in): 27-30
Colors: Immaterial (includes black, gray, red, fawn, either solid or brindled, either whole colored or spotted).

Character: Greyhounds are very sociable. When indoors, these dogs are lazy and relaxed. Outside, they show their high energy and stamina for action. Very intelligent, the breed is very closely bonded to their family.

Activity: The Greyhound needs to run and walk for long distances every day.
Country of Origin: United Kingdom
Health Issue: This breed is prone to bloat, hip dysplasia, and ear infections. They may also have entropion, where the eyelids turn inward.
Life Expectancy: 10-12

More About Greyhound Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      rescue
      Breed: Greyhound
      Sex: Male Male
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Greyhound. Casey was returned in August 2017 as he was doing some growling when he didn't like to be moved and the family was concerned about his interaction with a 1 year old family member (nothing happened, but they were concerned something might). Casey was fostered and adopted but returned after he growled when told to move off the bed. Casey is currently in foster care with several other greyhounds and is doing very well. He is a happy boy who bounces when he knows it is time to eat. He is not allowed on the couches or bed, but can go on chairs by himself. He listens well when told to do/not do something. He can be vocal, but that is just him - he has not acted further then making the noise. Casey is 7 years old but looks and acts younger - he has a gorgeous coat that is the color of Jif Peanut Butter.. He is a good eater, is clean in the house and overall is a great boy who thrives with some guidelines and limits. _________________________________ ORIGINAL POSTING WW Casey Cent is a stunning boy who enjoyed all the attention that he received. He is friendly and playful but not in a pushy way. He's a happy go lucky boy who gave kisses. Casey Cent walked well on leash. Casey Cent was interested in what we were doing and wanted to join in--what a sweet boy. He's 3 years old and cat tolerant with supervision. Foster Update 12/14/2013 Casey is doing well. No problem with steps, our other Greys or the cats. He is very hungry all the time and I’m pacing his meals. He has adapted to the routine of the other Greys. And he has started to play with the stuffed toys the last two days. He is a very affectionate dog and loves to have his ears scratched. And does listen when corrected. He is extremely inquisitive and wants to check everything out.

Sunshine is a happy girl who would love a nice, fenced yard and a family. _____________________________________________________ 8/6/2017 Update from Sunshine's Prison Handler: "She's a very sweet girl. She loves to cuddle and would love a fenced in yard to play in." Original Posting Sunshine is an adorable medium sized hound mix that was relinquished to a shelter along with her siblings and father (Ace) as the owner could not care for them. Sunshine and Ace had only a few hours left in the shelter and we were asked to help them both. We are happy to be able to welcome Sunshine who is 3 years old. She was heartworm positive (as was Ace). They have both received treatment for the heartworm and are resting comfortably. Sunshine is ready for adoption. She is a very happy and lovable girl who is just looking for a family to call her own who will take care of her and love her. She is a playful, gorgeous girl. She was interested in the cat but only briefly and mostly to play.

This boy is only 17 months old but has a nice maturity about him. He readily leans up against the person who is next to him. He walks nicely on leash. Posted Breed: Greyhound. WHAT A BEAUTY Sneak Thru whose name is now "Roxy" was relinquished and here is her foster mom's update: Foster Update: "Roxy is a pretty little girl with the cutest freckled ears and softest white coat. She can be friendly and outgoing, but also knows how to settle down nicely and "chill". Roxy was returned after an incident with an 8 year old, so we are recommending that she not be in a home with children under 13 years old. Her foster mother has tested her in various situations (brushing teeth, taking away food, pulling her when laying down, etc) and Roxy has handled it well. However, Roxy would do best with an experienced greyhound owner who won't let her get away with too much. After an initial settling in period, Roxy has done well with the other greyhounds in the foster home. She is a good eater and has not had any accidents. Roxy has attended several Meet & Greets and has been a good greyhound ambassadog. Roxy would be a nice companion and deserves a home of her own." Roxy is 8 years old. ___________________________________ Original Posting: Sneak Thru whose name is now "Roxy" has an odd name but she's a real winner. She's not only striking in appearance but she's got a sweet, friendly personality. She's very friendly, outgoing and nicely interactive. She's a tail wagger and shows when she's happy. She's white with the cutest freckled ears that are soft and adorable. Sneak Thru is 3 years old and cat tolerant with supervision. One of the pictures below is Sneak Thru enjoying her spa bath after travelling for almost 20 hours from the JCKC track in Florida.

Posted Breed: Greyhound. Foster Update 1/20/2015 "Rooney was returned for a second time as the home she was in just wasn't a good fit. Rooney is a fun, active, inquisitive, kind of quirky little girl. She at times is very outgoing, yet at other times seems almost shy. Rooney loves to play with toys and has recently learned to "drop it" as she sometimes does not like to share. She can be a collector of items around the house, so its best to try to keep things you don't want her to get into put away. Rooney is a good eater, crates well, but at times still needs to be watched with her housebreaking. If you are looking for a little snuggle bug, Rooney is your girl." _____________________________________________________ TB's Rooney is a beautiful, sleek, dainty girl. She has an adorable prance in her step. She's very friendly, gives kisses, chitters and likes to bury her head into you--how cute is she!! She enjoys attention but not in a pushy way. Rooney is 2 years old and cat tolerant with supervision. 9/11/2014 Rooney was returned after 3 days due to absolutely no fault of her own and she is in a foster home and waiting for her forever home. Foster Update 9/16/2014 Rooney is a delightful two-year old girl (DOB 7/20/2012) and is perhaps the tiniest greyhound this experienced Greyhound lover has ever come across. I estimate her to be about 50 something pounds, though she is still gaining some needed weight. She is striking in both her dainty stature and shiny black coat. Her foster home includes three cats. She is curious about them, but is easily redirected from looking at them. We also have two resident greyhounds; she gets along with both and enjoys playing in our fenced-in yard with them. We also have two dog-friendly children, ages 9 and 13; she does well with the children and readily receives gentle pettings from them. Both adults in our home work full time. While we are at work, Rooney is crated. She goes in her crate easily and has had no issues with, or accidents in, the crate. At night, she sleeps on a dog bed next to our bed. She has mastered the stairs and our laminate/tile/wood flooring. She has made excellent progress in house living and manners and has learned that "pottying" is done outside on walks or in the fenced-in yard. Rooney walks well on a leash and enjoys her jaunts about the neighborhood. Rooney is an affectionate girl who loves the company of people. She has a warm, endearing quality and will make a loving companion to her lucky adopter.
