Posted Breed: Greyhound (short coat). Hello – my name is Gracie and after all these years, I’m slowly discovering what life can really be like in an actual home. I never knew it could be so good! I get wonderful meals which I enjoy so much, if the weather is nice enough I get to go outside for a thing called a “walk”, and it’s just all so comfortable and warm with so much attention and affection! It’s so different from anything I’ve seen before, I can hardly believe it and it tends to frighten me at first until I can see it’s real and I can settle down – which I do very comfortably, by the way, on a soft bed. Now I’ve relaxed in my foster home, I’ve made another discovery……toys! Soft ones, and some of them even squeak! I like to carry them around and take them to bed, though it seems that the squeaky ones tend to disappear when it’s dark and my foster mom also goes to bed – haven’t figured that one out yet. No accidents in the house on my record – my foster sibling lets me follow her around and shows me what to do in this whole new world which I’m learning to love so much.

Greyhound

A.K.A. : English Greyhound

Breed Group: Hound
Weight (lbs): male: 65-70, female: 60-65
Height (in): 27-30
Colors: Immaterial (includes black, gray, red, fawn, either solid or brindled, either whole colored or spotted).
Coat: Is smooth, close and short-haired. Firm in texture.
Character: Greyhounds are very sociable. When indoors, these dogs are lazy and relaxed. Outside, they show their high energy and stamina for action. Very intelligent, the breed is very closely bonded to their family.

Care: The Greyhound requires only occasional grooming with a very soft brush. The eats should be checked regularly and the claws should be trimmed.
Training: This breed is easy to train as long as the training is consistent and on task.
Activity: The Greyhound needs to run and walk for long distances every day.
Country of Origin: United Kingdom
Health Issue: This breed is prone to bloat, hip dysplasia, and ear infections. They may also have entropion, where the eyelids turn inward.
Life Expectancy: 10-12

More About Greyhound Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Greyhound / Mixed (short coat). This sweet and affectionate lurcher girl (greyhound mix) is a natural when it comes to basking in the sun. While she can be quite lazy and loves to lounge on the sofa, cuddle with people, and she also loves exploring on leash. But beware, as she can instinctively become the skilled hunter that she was bred to be. This means that you will need to make a few compromises like not keeping cats or dogs under 30lbs within her reach as she may think they are dinner! She can also become highly excited when peering out the window at other pups...it's times like that that we wish we were able to provide her with a 5.5 or 6ft fence as this 45# athlete can easily jump a 4ft fence! She adores her foster family's 10yr old son as well as the resident greyhound. She's not only smart but a quick learner. Also, don't let her age fool you (6 years old)--she's a puppy at heart with a big personality and we think she's just about perfect! . . . well except for . . . she's told us that she doesn't like to be startled when she's sleeping. In order to respect her wishes, we are sure to wake her before petting or sitting close to her while she's sleeping.

Posted Breed: Greyhound (short coat). Hi, my name is Alpha and a lot of people who know me think I’m “awesome!” Here are some things that I’ve heard said about me that I think makes me “awesome.” I love going on walks walking next to you brushing my head against your hand from time to time giving you gentle kisses to thank you. If I am walking with another dog and somehow get ahead, I turn around and wait for the other dog to catch up like a gentleman. One more thing about walks is that I’m sometimes called “Inspector Alpha” because I am so curious about my world and like to “check out” a lot of trees, bushes, and poles along the route. I’m also a fun and loving pup. I have a blue stuffed toy rabbit which I love to play with and can do tricks with tossing and catching him in midair! I’m a little shy when I first meet people but before long I am sharing my love and eager to be loved in return. If you’re looking for one awesome pup to bring fun and love into your family, “Awesome Alpha” is the pup for you!

Posted Breed: Greyhound (short coat). Hi, my name is Hoffa and I am one happy puppy! I tend to be large for my age so when people see me sometimes it’s hard for them to believe I’m just a puppy but I have the energy and enthusiasm to prove it! I’m so full of life and love it makes me so happy! When I see people I know I get so excited and come to give them a big hug which sometimes catches them by surprise. But they’re always happy to see me, too, and love me right back. I honestly think I should be an “ambassadog” for greyhounds because I am super friendly and just love meeting new people. I gently approach new people wagging my tail as a way of getting their attention. I love when they respond and give me some attention in return. If you’re looking for a fun, playful pup who will bring more love into your family and receive love in return, I’m definitely the perfect pup for you!
