Posted Breed: Greyhound. Mohican Sunset RE 33E LE 60699 Hi I'm Sunny! I love Life! Everything is super interesting to me! I have a tendency to follow people around so am what you call a Velcro hound; I just don't want to miss out on anything! I am super sweet and love attention. I get along with everyone! I warm up to cats pretty quickly, but small dogs take a while longer. I would rather not be left out of anything. I want in on all of the action! Greyhound

A.K.A. : English Greyhound
Overview: The Greyhounds are the fastest breed and require lots of outdoor activity. They're a great family members, enjoying lots of attention and affection from all.
Breed Group: Hound
Weight (lbs): male: 65-70, female: 60-65
Height (in): 27-30
Colors: Immaterial (includes black, gray, red, fawn, either solid or brindled, either whole colored or spotted).
Coat: Is smooth, close and short-haired. Firm in texture.
Character: Greyhounds are very sociable. When indoors, these dogs are lazy and relaxed. Outside, they show their high energy and stamina for action. Very intelligent, the breed is very closely bonded to their family.
Temperament: This breed chases things that move quickly, so they are not particularly suited for living in a home with cats. Although they are cautious around strangers, they are typically good with children and enjoy the company of other dogs.
Care: The Greyhound requires only occasional grooming with a very soft brush. The eats should be checked regularly and the claws should be trimmed.
Training: This breed is easy to train as long as the training is consistent and on task.
Activity: The Greyhound needs to run and walk for long distances every day.
Country of Origin: United Kingdom
Health Issue: This breed is prone to bloat, hip dysplasia, and ear infections. They may also have entropion, where the eyelids turn inward.
Life Expectancy: 10-12

More About Greyhound Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Greyhound. Rico’s Sergio RE 74C, LE 64372 DOB 7-11-2014 Hi I'm Sergio! I'm a very happy boy with a very waggy tail! I love toys and have mastered destroying the squeakers in them! I love going on walks and do well on lead. I get along well with my two other greyhound brothers and the kids in the house, but would do best in a home without cats and small dogs - I show great interest in them and can't be distracted! I'm good in my kennel, but do tend to growl if the other hounds walk near it when I'm in there eating. I still need some work on walking on hardwood floors, and learning not to counter surf! Overall, I'm a social, playful, energetic, and gentle boy. A little shy at first with new people and surroundings, but do warm up. I also am blind in my right eye. Posted Breed: Greyhound. Mookie Betts RE 105C, LE 67453 DOB 10-1-2015 Hi I'm Mookie! My favorite things include toys (but I do get possessive with them and may growl if you try and take them away from me), running in the yard, and hanging out with my foster family. I am doing well with the resident cat, though I do chase it once in awhile but am learning that this is not ok! I do well with the other greyhounds in the house too, but would prefer to not be disturbed by them when I'm eating or in my kennel. I'm very curious, have a moderate prey drive, but can be distracted. I need more training on learning what things in the house are mine to play with and items that are not toys e.g. socks. Overall, I'm a playful, goofy, laid back, lovable guy who is eager to please. I can't wait to have a home to call my own! I'm still learning on what is mine to play with and what is not mine. I have a sweet, pleasing, happy disposition and according to my foster mom, the most beautiful true red fawn coloring! I am friendly, good with kids, and people. I get along with my greyhounds and big dogs and would do best in a home without cats and small dogs as I have a high prey drive and energy! I'd prefer to not be in my kennel. I'd do best in a home where I can receive lots of attention and a yard for me to run around in! I get along with people, large dogs, and cats so far. But I'd prefer to not be around small dogs. I also would prefer to not be kenneled, but you do have to keep an eye on me as I act like a puppy and like to get into things! I do best with gentle training. I'd do best with another companion as I get nervous being alone. To see other hounds currently in our care please visit the Hounds in Our Care page on our website. I am a bit afraid of the wood floors at my foster home, but I'm working on it! I get along with everyone, and I love watching the neighbor dogs when they're outside.
