Duchess is blind and deaf, but she loves human touch and is very affectionate. Her tail is always wagging and a goofy smile on her face. Duchess is always ready to play! She loves toys and wrestling with her foster siblings. She loves to hang out with people and run around a yard. She enjoys exercise and being outdoors. She does really well with potty training and is good on a schedule. She would make an excellent and loyal companion to a very patient and supportive human. ADOPTION EVENTS: Please understand that all of our pets are in foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please email us to confirm attendance. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/ Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN. All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Posted Breed: Havanese (long coat). It is said that Havanese are like potato chips - you cannot have just one. Ditto and Ricky agree! These bonded buddies are looking for a home together. Don't miss your chance to scoop up twice as much fun! These sweet boys are best friends who have been raised together and have bonded over their love of exploring, sleeping, car rides and walks. Oh and if you toss a toy their way they certainly won't complain! Ditto (13) and Ricky (12) are friendly with other dogs, but have not yet interacted with cats or children since coming to HRI. They are crate trained and would be thrilled to live in a home with a fenced in yard. Like most Havanese they are happiest with people who are around most of the time. This lovable pair is currently in foster care in North Carolina. A fee will be requested to adopt this dog. The recommended fee amount will be based on the dog's age, and medical and behavioral issues, if any. The application can be found on our website at www.havaneserescue.com. You will not be considered until we have the completed application. The recommended fee amount for these dogs is reduced because the dogs are seniors and eligible for our Senior Advantage Program. A completed application is required if you are interested in adoption. Thank you for considering a rescue dog!

    Breed: Havanese
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Havanese (long coat). Vinnie just turned eight years old at the beginning of January. He is a very handsome black and white gentleman weighing in at almost thirteen pounds. Vinnie is current on his vaccinations as well as heartworm and flea and tick preventatives and he just had a dental cleaning so he is all spiffed up and ready to go home! Vinnie had to get his coat completely cut down when he came into foster care. It is growing in nicely and he’ll be even cuter as it fills out. Vinnie is a bit of an anxious dog. He hangs back when new people are around, though, like any Havanese, if his foster mom is not right at hand, he gets over his shyness and loves the one he is with. His new family just needs to give him a little time to warm up, and some nice treats will go a long way to reassuring him. He loves to sit on the couch with his people and follows them everywhere. He has honed his role as companion dog to a fine art! Vinnie is used to eating and sleeping in his crate. He’s working on his leash skills. He is very good in the car and is a nice traveling buddy. He is doing well on his house training, though he doesn’t necessarily let anyone know when he needs to go outside. He does best when he has a regular schedule to provide him with a potty break. Vinnie loves people and wants to please and is very motivated by attention and treats. Vinnie has a mature cataract that has been evaluated by an ophthalmologist. It was determined that surgery was not necessary. It is estimated that the cataract forming in his other eye will not reach maturity until a couple of years from now. He is on a maintenance eye drop three times a week through mid June. Vinnie is ready for a family of his own. He’d love a home where he can have companionship much of the day so he can show his devotion. He gets along well with other small dogs and would be happy to have a canine brother or sister in his forever family. Vinnie is being fostered in North Carolina A donation will be requested to adopt this dog. The recommended donation amount will be based on the dog's age, and medical and behavioral issues, if any. The application can be found on our website at www.havaneserescue.com. You will not be considered until we have the completed application.

Posted Breed: Havanese (long coat). Bitsy in North Carolina Bitsy is an eleven-year-old, svelte ten-pound parti-sable girl. She had to have a severe haircut when she came to foster care, but her white, grey and tan coat will be beautiful when it grows in. Bitsy enjoys the finer things in life: a soft couch, a soft bed, lying in the sunshine, delicious food and treats, tummy rubs and ear scratches, and a few dashes around the living room each day. Bitsy is used to eating and sleeping in her crate. She is mostly house trained though she doesn’t signal when she needs to go out, which has resulted in a few accidents in the house. She does well when her family brings her outside regularly. Bitsy had dental work which left her with only four teeth. This hasn’t stopped her from enjoying her meals, however, and she’s working her way back to eating her dry kibble. Bitsy has a mature cataract that was evaluated by an ophthalmologist. It was determined that surgery is not necessary. It is estimated that the cataract forming in her other eye will not reach maturity for another three to four years. Bites is very friendly and loves everyone! She is very good in the car and would make a nice travel buddy. Sweet and easy-going Bitsy would love to have a few special people of her own and would make a great addition to a family hoping to find a small and loving companion. The recommended donation amount for this dog is reduced because the dog is a senior and is eligible for our Senior Advantage Program*. Breed: Havanese
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult

Posted Breed: Havanese (long coat). Top Ten Reasons Why I Should Be Your Dog 10. I'm a great leash walker. I never pull, I walk beside you and will wait patiently when you stop. 9. I’m not a barker. I will let you know when I hear something and will quiet down after the first bark. However I do bark when my foster brother and sister carry on, but I know “Quiet” and calm down after my foster mom asks us to. 8. I’m a great car-traveler. I will sit quietly and I don't make a peep even on a car trip that lasts a couple of hours. I don't show any signs of car sickness, either. 7. I'm not a picky eater; in fact, I LOVE to eat! I’ll race into the kitchen and wait patiently next to my foster mom while she prepares my food until I cannot take it any longer and then will gently put my front feet on her leg to let her know she is taking just a bit too long. 6. I am crate-trained. I eat in my crate and I prefer to sleep in my crate at night.I am also the best sleeper ever. I happily sleep all night, and you might hear me snoring contentedly. Don’t worry; my snoring isn’t too loud and it makes my foster mom happy that I'm so content in my crate. 5. I don’t like to rock the boat. I pretty much get along with everyone. I most likely will not make an initial approach and might even retreat, but I am very respectful of other dogs on our walks and even my foster cat siblings. 4. I’m a quick learner and very food motivated. I catch onto corrections very quickly and am acutely aware of tone of voice and what’s expected of me. I’m a great dog in all areas, but one of the few things we are working on is when I get excited e.g.when my foster mom brings me my food or when someone comes home. 3. I’m pretty much house trained. I don’t have accidents if I am taken out regularly. My cue to go outside is pacing by the door. This is not the best choice but since I’ll probably be by your side 100% of the time when you’re at home, if I leave, you might want to check to see if I have gone to the door. 2. I don’t mind the rain or snow. I know, it's crazy, but I will happily go outside to take care of my business regardless of the weather. 1. I’m a “chill” kind of girl. If you want to go for a walk I will happily join you. If you want to hang on the couch, I will very gladly lie down next to you and hope for an occasional ear scratch. Got toys? I love them and will happily entertain myself, particularly with squeaky ones. Although I’m a bit on the shy side and it might take a while to gain my trust, once you have it I’ll follow you everywhere! The thing that makes me the happiest is being with my people. So now that you know the top ten reasons that I should be your dog, I also want to let you know despite my “Special Needs” logo I'm quite easy to take care of. I have a condition called Sebaceous Adenitis a condition that doesn’t cause me any health-related issues, but is strictly cosmetic. My foster mom has done the hard part in getting my condition under control. Now that I’m feeling so much better, we’re working out a plan that will keep my skin nice and soft. Currently, I need a weekly bath and soaks a couple of times a month. I am such a good girl about getting a bath. I also take medication once a day. My doctor and foster mom have been slowly decreasing the amount in hopes that I’ll only need to take this medication a couple of times a week. Thanks for taking the time to read about me. I must say that I do think I’m a pretty amazing eight-year-old, 13 pound pup with plenty to offer to my future family. If you want more info about me, please fill out an application and my foster mom will gladly discuss any questions you might have. Blaze is being fostered in PA. A donation will be requested to adopt this dog. The recommended donation amount will be based on the dog's age, and medical and behavioral issues, if any. The application can be found on our website at www.havaneserescue.com. You will not be considered until we have the completed application.

Posted Breed: Havanese (long coat). Willie is a sweet little guy who loves to smile - at his foster family, other dogs and visitors he meets in his new foster home. Willie is thirteen years old and weighs eleven pounds. Willie’s doting foster mom says that he is leash trained and crate trained. He enjoys taking walks with his foster family. Willie is working on his house training. Willie gets along well with men and women and children over the age of 12. He absolutely loves other dogs and would like a canine companion in his forever home. Because he enjoys running and exploring, he would like a fenced backyard where he and his dog buddy can run and explore. He’d like a family where someone is home most of the time. Willie is being fostered in Florida. A donation will be requested to adopt this dog. The recommended donation amount will be based on the dog's age, and medical and behavioral issues, if any. Posted Breed: Havanese (long coat). Eddie is a friendly little man. He bounces when he is happy and always lets you know how much he loves you. Who could ask for more? Dear Eddie gets along with almost anyone – cats, dogs and children over twelve, but prefers to stay away from smaller children who may not understand that Eddie does best in a tranquil environment. At eleven years old, Eddie has a grade 4+ heart murmur and can occasionally have high blood pressure, which needs to be checked regularly. Because of kidney disease, he is on prescription kidney food. Eddie experiences some separation anxiety so he would prefer to be in a home with another dog and with someone who is home most of the time to keep him company. Eddie is not neutered and needs a bit of work on house training, but is crate trained and walks well on a leash. Eddie would love a fenced in back yard to explore and a human to cuddle with. This charming guy is currently being fostered in Georgia. The recommended fee amount for this dog is reduced because the dog is a senior and is eligible for our Senior Advantage Program. Pepper in KS...

    Breed: Havanese
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Havanese (long coat). Seven-year-old Pepper has adjusted well in foster care. This cute little girl weigh just nine pounds. Sugar and Pepper are shy and timid initially with new people, but they warm up quickly. Their foster mom says they’re friendly and playful and can be very loving. They’re both a little set in their ways and their foster mom is working on some negative behaviors that they exhibit when something isn’t going the way they’d like or someone is in their space when they want to be left alone. They’re beginning work with a trainer to help them with their manners. Both dogs are leash trained, but require very close attention while they’re out. Pepper is quite focused on trying to chase cars and gets very excited when she sees one. She barks and pulls and her foster mom reports she must have a very tight grip on the leash to keep Pepper from running. Sugar is very focused on eating things and will chew on a stick like a bone. She also fancies herself to have surgical skills and very effectively removes the pesky squeaker from toys. She can get a little carried away and will eat the parts so she needs close supervision. Sugar and Pepper get along well with the other Havanese in their foster home. They haven’t been exposed to cats so it’s unknown how they’d interact with them. They haven’t been exposed to children while in foster care. In their first home, the duo were trained to use a doggie door to go outside to relieve themselves. They don’t have a doggie door in their foster home and have learned to wait until they’re taken outside. They enjoy their fenced yard and it gives them an opportunity to run and play outdoors without being leashed. Sugar is taking medication to help her with anxiety. Pepper is generally calm, but can become overly excited at times, particularly when she knows it’s almost time for a walk or when she sees a car while on a walk. Even though they’re crate trained, Pepper and Sugar sleep in the bed with their foster mom and the other household dogs. They are very affectionate in the morning, happily waking up their foster mom and moving in for some pets and snuggle time. Pepper is typically reluctant to get out of bed in the morning, often rising only when she hears breakfast is being served. (If she were human, she’d probably request breakfast in bed!) Pepper and Sugar have been together all their lives and will need to be adopted as a pair when they’re ready to make that transition. In the meantime, this darling duo is enjoying their foster mom and foster siblings while fine tuning their manners. Pepper and Sugar are being fostered in Kansas. A donation will be requested to adopt this dog. The recommended donation amount will be based on the dog's age, and medical and behavioral issues, if any. The application can be found on our website at www.havaneserescue.com. You will not be considered until we have the completed application.

    Dudley in FL...

    Breed: Havanese
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Havanese (long coat). Thirteen-year-old Dudley is a sweet, elderly gentleman who loves his people, his bed and his dinner in that order. He likes to play and walk in moderation, but he really takes retirement seriously. (Weighing just 14 pounds, he does not need any extra exercise to keep his ideal weight anyway.) He is a wonderful, affectionate companion who gives lots of kisses and is always ready for his belly rubs. Dudley has some separation anxiety when his person leaves so he would do best in a home where someone is there most of the time. He is eager to learn and to please. Although blind and deaf, he has no problems navigating his foster home. His foster mom, who has had no experience with special-needs dogs, thinks he is quite easy to care for. He is underfoot often times because he doesn't see to move himself out of the way and he likes to be close to his person. Dudley is on a prescription diet to support his urinary tract. Dudley is a gorgeous-looking Havanese mix with a dark grey coat with lighter highlights. His coat is easy to take care of. A good brushing every few days does the trick. He actually likes to be brushed and bathed! If you are looking for a companion to spend your days with, sweet Dudley is your man. The recommended fee amount for this dog is reduced because the dog is a senior and is eligible for our Senior Advantage Program. For more information about this program, please visit our website and click on the Senior Advantage icon in the dog's listing.
