I am about 11 years young and 12 pounds. I have started to come out of my shell since I have been in rescue. I let my humans approach me and hold me. Even though it may not seem like it quite yet, I really love to be around them and lie near them. Following them to see what is next on the daily agenda is fun, too. I am a very active dog, don't let my age fool you, and I am always on the move! My favorite thing is to roll around on my back on the carpet. I am so happy to be a dog! I never knew how great it could be! I just learned how to walk on a leash and I really like my walks. Toys and treats are new to me as well and I haven't interacted with them yet. For now, I enjoy watching the other dogs play with toys and eat treats. There are several skills I am working on right now! Potty training is one of them. I do go to the bathroom outside with the other dogs, but I still have messes in the house. I am trying very hard! I hang out in my crate during the day and have only had one accident in that. Otherwise, I do amazing in it! Since I am still a bit weary of humans, I need another dog to live with me. I hope they can help me learn more skills and gain confidence. Having another small and gentle dog would be best, so I don't get scared of them. I want you to know that I have a lot of energy for an 11-year old dog and have many more miles on these paws! They say that I am a sweetheart and have made a lot of progress since living in a home. All I want in this life is to find a patient and loving home. I promise that the time we spend together will be beautiful and so full of love. I cannot wait! Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. She is about 6 years old and a tiny 5 pounds. Little dumpling is sweet as pie! Starting out a little skittish, Dumpling warms up quickly to soft and soothing touch. Though she doesn't isn't quite ready to be picked up, she does love to follow her foster mom around the house and is very excited when she comes home! You may even hear her whine a little when you are out of sight. One of her daily activities is playing with other dogs and having fun with soft balls and small toys. She is most happy when she gets to take a neighborhood stroll with her dog friends and embrace her new freedom. As she continues to learn about love and trust humans, Dumpling relies strongly on companionship with dog friends to make her feel safe and happy. She is a fast-learner and has been doing an awesome job at going to the bathroom outside. She is very close to being 100% housebroken! She also has learned the stay command and is proving to be one smart cookie! If you have a little extra patience and a whole lot of love, sweet little dumpling will sure be a great fit for you! Sugar and Pe...

    Breed: Havanese
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Havanese (long coat). Nine-year-old Sugar has adjusted well in foster care. This cute little girl weighs just nine pounds. Sugar and Pepper are shy and timid initially with new people, but they warm up quickly. Their foster mom says they’re friendly and playful and can be very loving. They’re both a little set in their ways and their foster mom is working on some negative behaviors that they exhibit when something isn’t going the way they’d like or someone is in their space when they want to be left alone. They’re beginning work with a trainer to help them with their manners. Both dogs are leash trained, but require very close attention while they’re out. Pepper is quite focused on trying to chase cars and gets very excited when she sees one. She barks and pulls and her foster mom reports she must have a very tight grip on the leash to keep Pepper from running. Sugar is very focused on eating things and will chew on a stick like a bone. She also fancies herself to have surgical skills and very effectively removes the pesky squeaker from toys. She can get a little carried away and will eat the parts so she needs close supervision. Sugar and Pepper get along well with the other Havanese in their foster home. They haven’t been exposed to cats so it’s unknown how they’d interact with them. They haven’t been exposed to children while in foster care. In their first home, the duo were trained to use a doggie door to go outside to relieve themselves. They don’t have a doggie door in their foster home and have learned to wait until they’re taken outside. They enjoy their fenced yard and it gives them an opportunity to run and play outdoors without being leashed. Sugar is taking medication to help her with anxiety. Pepper is generally calm, but can become overly excited at times, particularly when she knows it’s almost time for a walk or when she sees a car while on a walk. Even though they’re crate trained, Pepper and Sugar sleep in the bed with their foster mom and the other household dogs. They are very affectionate in the morning, happily waking up their foster mom and moving in for some pets and snuggle time. Pepper is typically reluctant to get out of bed in the morning, often rising only when she hears breakfast is being served. (If she were human, she’d probably request breakfast in bed!) This darling duo is enjoying their foster mom and foster siblings while fine tuning their manners. Sugar and Pepper are being fostered in Kansas. A donation will be requested to adopt this dog. The recommended donation amount will be based on the dog's age, and medical and behavioral issues, if any. The application can be found on our website at www.havaneserescue.com. You will not be considered until we have the completed application.

Posted Breed: Havanese (long coat). Seven-year-old Pepper has adjusted well in foster care. This cute little girl weigh just nine pounds. Dudley in FL...

    Breed: Havanese

    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Havanese (long coat). Thirteen-year-old Dudley is a sweet, elderly gentleman who loves his people, his bed and his dinner in that order. He likes to play and walk in moderation, but he really takes retirement seriously. (Weighing just 14 pounds, he does not need any extra exercise to keep his ideal weight anyway.) He is a wonderful, affectionate companion who gives lots of kisses and is always ready for his belly rubs. Dudley has some separation anxiety when his person leaves so he would do best in a home where someone is there most of the time. He is eager to learn and to please. Although blind and deaf, he has no problems navigating his foster home. His foster mom, who has had no experience with special-needs dogs, thinks he is quite easy to care for. He is underfoot often times because he doesn't see to move himself out of the way and he likes to be close to his person. Dudley is on a prescription diet to support his urinary tract. Dudley is a gorgeous-looking Havanese mix with a dark grey coat with lighter highlights. His coat is easy to take care of. A good brushing every few days does the trick. He actually likes to be brushed and bathed! If you are looking for a companion to spend your days with, sweet Dudley is your man. Dudley is being fostered in Florida. The recommended fee amount for this dog is reduced because the dog is a senior and is eligible for our Senior Advantage Program. For more information about this program, please visit our website and click on the Senior Advantage icon in the dog's listing. You must complete an application which can be found on our website at www.havaneserescue.com. You will not be considered until we have the completed application.
