Posted Breed: Shepherd / Husky / Mixed (medium coat). Please contact Wilma (wilmag718@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Shelby is a sweet senior girl, good with people, but not with other dogs - she should be the only dog in her home. She would be very happy with adults and older children. She is an excellent watchdog, and well-behaved in the home. Shelby is low-energy, easy-to-please, and likes to go on walks (short ones!). She is leash-reactive (lunging/barking) with other dogs. A fenced yard is best for her to enjoy her time outside. As she is in her senior years, she does have some health concerns (arthritis), but can still enjoy her time with you - as well as you enjoying her. If you'd like to open your heart and home to this sweet Senior, please fill out the application for her and hopefully meet her soon. How to Adopt Me! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      rescue
      Breed: Pekingese
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Oakhurst, NJ
Posted Breed: Pekingese. wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Bumbles is between 11 and 12 years old. Wag On Inn pulled him from a local NJ shelter, hoping to find him a home where he will be loved for the rest of his days. Bumbles has dry eye, so he will always need to take eye drops. His vision is impaired, but he is not blind, and can get around the house and outside just fine. Bumbles is fine living with other dogs in his foster home, but he can be nervous around larger, energetic dogs who might knock him over. He loves people, and really likes to have his ears rubbed and to be petted. He's a low-energy dog, perfect for someone who wants a constant companion! Bumbles is housetrained and enjoys going for walks if it's not too frigid outside. He enjoys wearing sweaters and playing dress-up! Bumbles makes some very funny, howl-y noises when he is excited. He's very cute! Bumbles is up-to-date on his shots and neutered. He was just shaved down because he was very matted. The groomer said he was very well-behaved for his grooming. Bumbles just had a dental cleaning and had some teeth pulled (a typical small-dog problem). Look at that face! :-) Bumbles will make you laugh every day! Bumbles' adoption fee is $250. How to Adopt Me! If you are interested in learning more about me, and possibly making me part of your family, please go to wagoninn.rescuegroups.org . Wag On Inn Rescue has no first-hand information on him/her, and cannot attest to his/her health or suitability for any purpose. For information on Sadie, contact Jordanna at 732 910-8007. ************** Sadie’s owner fell on hard times, and now Sadie is looking for a new forever home. She’s 5 years old and approx 45 lbs, with short golden hair. She’s a lab mix – just not sure what she’s mixed with; perhaps Basenji or Shepherd. Her tall, pointy ears that stand straight up are her most distinguishing, and fun, feature. She is a sweet, well-mannered, playful pooch; completely housebroken, good with children and other dogs and knows basic commands. She is a devoted companion and bonds very closely with anyone deemed as her caretaker. She has been spayed, microchipped, and is up to date on all her vaccinations. Despite the tough times Sadie has encountered, she remains a sweet, playful and committed pooch and deserves to spend the remainder of her life in a loving forever home.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Amanda for more information about this pet. wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Bambi came to us from a backyard breeder in North Carolina, and is looking for a loving forever home. She is about 4 years old, weighs 11 lbs, and was recently spayed and brought up-to-date with her vaccines. Bambi can be a little shy when she first meets you, but loves to snuggle and give kisses once she knows you. Bambi's probably not a good match for small kids since they might frighten her. She would do best in a home with another dog who is confident because she could learn from him/her. She loves other dogs. Bambi ignores the cats in her foster home. Bambi loves to cuddle and sleeps next to her foster mom every night. She likes to talk to her foster mom and sometimes will whine for attention. Bambi is learning how to walk on a leash, so at least initially she should go to a home with a fenced yard. She is nearly 100% housebroken and will use a pee pad if she can't get outside (when her foster mom is not home). She is really a very easy dog and very affectionate. She will make a great companion! Bambi's adoption fee is $350. How to Adopt Me! If you are interested in learning more about me, and possibly making me part of your family, please go to wagoninn.rescuegroups.org. Posted Breed: Bloodhound / Boxer / Mixed (short coat). wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Bruno is a 4 1/2-month-old puppy with huge feet. He's adorable; he looks like some kind of Bloodhound mix, and based on his current weight, he might get as large as 80-90 lbs. He was found as a stray in a not-so-great area in NC. Bruno is friendly with everyone, and enjoys playing with other dogs. Bruno's foster mom says: He is very sweet natured and will most likely be a gentle giant when he reaches his estimated 80-90 lbs. He is very curious and a bit stubborn so he's going to need a family that will spend time to train him while he's still small enough to handle. Bruno loves to snuggle on the couch and play with other dogs. Bruno's adoption fee will be $400. How to Adopt Me! Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Please contact Kathy (kk6251@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Candi (the brown Chihuahua) and April (the black Chihuahua) came to us from North Carolina. They came from a home who was happily breeding them... They are one year old and are sisters - they are the daughters of Tink, who is now here with her latest litter! Candi and April are both adorable, very sweet, very friendly, happy girls who would love to have new families where they don't need to have puppies all the time. They love everyone and give lots and lots and lots of kisses! They are little wiggle butts, extremely cuddly with everyone and even each other. Candi is afraid to go up and down big flights of stairs, but fine with the 3 steps to go outside. A couple of accidents the first 2 days (I think it was April), but now both seem to be using the doggie door to do their business (although it's only been a few days so we'll see!). Candi is an attention hog, and if she sees someone petting any of my other dogs or April, she climbs right in their lap and on top of April, even, to be the #1. No growling or being nasty to get that spot though, which she will happily share, but an attention hog for sure. They are big babbies and very needy, so they cry whenever I go upstairs. They want to be with me all the time. They seem to know the difference between me leaving the house (when they are fine), but when I go upstairs they cry. We are trying to work with them on that, but as silly as this request sounds, I think they need homes that will let them sleep in the bed with them. Together they do everything in tandem which is kind of cute....guess growing up together they climb all over eachother, play together, run together, eat together, run together, and go to the bathroom together. A fenced yard is not a requirement for them. Candi and April can be adopted separately (their foster mom thinks they should have another dog in the house), but if anyone wants two dogs, they will keep each other company and they get aloing very well! April's adoption fee is $350. How to Foster or Adopt Me!
