Posted Breed: Shepherd / Husky / Mixed (medium coat). Please contact Wilma (wilmag718@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Shelby is a sweet senior girl, good with people, but not with other dogs - she should be the only dog in her home. She would be very happy with adults and older children. She is an excellent watchdog, and well-behaved in the home. Shelby is low-energy, easy-to-please, and likes to go on walks (short ones!). She is leash-reactive (lunging/barking) with other dogs. A fenced yard is best for her to enjoy her time outside. As she is in her senior years, she does have some health concerns (arthritis), but can still enjoy her time with you - as well as you enjoying her. If you'd like to open your heart and home to this sweet Senior, please fill out the application for her and hopefully meet her soon. How to Adopt Me! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Age: Baby
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Nova was rescued from a local NJ shelter where she was surrendered with a broken elbow. Due to the shelters limited resources, they would have amputated her leg rather than seek the care of an orthapedic specialist. Instead Wag On Inn pulled Nova and took her to Red Bank Animal Hospital for care. She has surgery to repair her broken bone on October 18, 2017. She has 4-6 weeks of recovery ahead of her. Once she is healed from this, we will get her spayed, microchipped and ready for adoption. We are accepting donations for her medical bills at wagoninn.rescuegroup.org - see PayPal link for easy donations. Or please mail to PO Box. How to Adopt Me! Posted Breed: Cocker Spaniel (medium coat). wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Rocky was surrendered to Wag On Inn on November 30. His owner lost their home and while they found a small place to stay temporarily, Rocky had to sleep in the car. This was an urgent situation and Wag On Inn responded immediately. Rocky came from a past abuse situation so he would not do well in a shelter. He is shy around new people and scared to be away from his family. We are saying no kids to since he can be shy and fearful. We also did not do our typical behavior assessment due to his poor state and sad situation. So we will have to be very careful where we place him. Breed experience would be helpful. WOI got Rocky fully vetted and groomed so he is now medically sound sound and his coat is very short. Breed: Beagle-Weimaraner Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Beagle / Weimaraner / Mixed (short coat). wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Sweet Kaylee and her four pups came to us from North Carolina. Kaylee was estimated to be about 1 year old in June - just a baby herself. She is a very sweet dog who loves people and enjoys other dogs. She has been very accepting of neighborhood kids and we think she'd be great in a home with children. She loves getting attention! Kaylee is a fast runner, but she also can be a couch potato once she gets her exercise in. Kaylee is doing very well with her housetraining, in a home with a doggie door. She'll have to learn to ask to be let out. Kaylee enjoys playing in the yard and going for walks. She would like to have a doggie friend in her new home. We would prefer her to go to a home with a yard where she can run with another dog and tire herself out. Kaylee was adopted and is being returned because her dad is very ill and it's just too much for the family. Kaylee's DNA test said that she is mostly Beagle and Weinmaraner! We think Kaylee gets a little too excited when she sees cats (some kittens in our home and cats on our walks) - she's probably not a great match for a home with cats. Kaylee's adoption fee is $400. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Murray came to us from Puerto Rico. He's about 6 months old, and looks like a Chihuahua mix, with maybe some Jack Russell or Rat Terrier genes. He's adorable! Murray has loads of energy and is a typical puppy, curious about everything. He'd love to have an active home. He likes to run and play with other dogs, but can amuse himself, too. Murray likes to play fetch (and usually returns the ball!). Like many small dogs, our vet said that Murray has luxating patellas (loose kneecaps). These can affect his gait, but he still can run and play! Murray is working hard on his housetraining and is doing well. He's well-behaved in a crate and sleeps through the night. Murray can be a little nervous in new surroundings, but he adapts pretty quickly. He would be best in a home with older children, since he does greet everyone with a friendly jump and hello! Everyone at the vet hospital involved in his neutering fell in love with Murray! Murray's adoption fee is $450. How to Adopt Me! Posted Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer / Mixed (short coat). wagoninn.rescuegroups.org My name is Lexi. I'm a 6 year young German short haired pointer mix looking for a home without young children. I may or may not do well with another dog, I live with my dog brother now and love him, but don't like all dogs. I know all of the basic commands and love doing them for a "good girl", walk well on a leash, aim to please, enjoy going for runs/hikes and playing tug. I am sweet and love to snuggle, but get uncomfortable easily in unfamiliar situations. I'd do best in a home where I can be treated like the princess I am. How to Adopt Me! Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Amanda for more information about this pet. wagoninn.rescuegroups.org Bambi came to us from a backyard breeder in North Carolina, and is looking for a loving forever home. She is about 4 years old, weighs 11 lbs, and was recently spayed and brought up-to-date with her vaccines and microchipped. Bambi can be a little shy when she first meets you, but loves to snuggle and give kisses once she knows you. Bambi's probably not a good match for small kids since they might make her nervous. Bambi loves other dogs. Bambi ignores the cats in her foster home. Bambi loves to cuddle and sleeps next to her foster mom every night. Bambi is learning how to walk on a leash, so at least initially she should go to a home with a fenced yard. She is nearly 100% housebroken and will use a pee pad if she can't get outside (overnight). She is really a very easy dog and very affectionate. She will make a great companion! Bambi is full of love to give! Bambi's adoption fee is $300. How to Adopt Me!
