Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Dexter is awesome! He is a 10 year old male Chihuahua/Terrier mix who weighs about 10 pounds. He is a sweet and affectionate little guy who takes a minute to warm up to new people, but once he does, he is a super-cuddly companion. He has so much love to give! Dexter’s personality is really sweet and he loves to play with his soft toys. You can see typical terrier qualities as far as energy, playfulness, feistiness and loyalty. He bonds quickly to one person and wants to be your buddy. He loves going for car rides and makes a great travel companion, especially when he can look out the window! He also loves going for leash walks, and sitting out in the yard on a warm day. Being a terrier, he does bark when someone’s at the door or if he hears the sound of a doorbell, but isn't a barky dog overall. He is the sweetest little guy and would love to meet you! Dexter will do best in a home without children or larger dogs. If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting Dexter, please submit an application on our website. Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescued pet! Our adoption fees are as follows: Puppies and Dogs (up through 7 years old) – $250 Dogs (8 years of age or older) – $100 Kittens and Cats (up through 7 years old) – $100 Cats (8 years of age or older) – $50 Adoption Application: http://www.hopeanimals.org/#!adoption-application/c1trs

More About Jack Chi Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (long coat). My name is Dillon, and I'm a 3 year old Terrier mix. My hair is shaggy looking, but I do not shed much. I love to go for walks, and hikes where I can explore the outdoors. I'm currently staying with a trainer, who fosters for Hope and is great at teaching good manners. We're working on teaching me new things, so I can be ready for my new home. I've been around other dogs, and with proper introductions I do great. I have been curious about cats, and would do best in a cat-free home. I would love a home with a fenced yard, since I can be a bit stubborn and might ignore a wireless fence boundary. I am looking for an active, child-free home, if you are ready for me to join you on your next adventure, please consider me! Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (long coat). Bagel is a sweet, shy 4-year-old girl with a beautiful coat. We aren't sure what her exact mix is, but our best guess is German Shepherd mixed with another shepherd or mountain dog. She had a rough start in life and was probably an outside-only dog until she came to our rescue. She is timid around new people and in new environments, but she gets a little more comfortable everyday. Bagel does well around other dogs and children, but does prefer human females to males (she is not aggressive toward males, just slower to trust them). We continue to help Bagel work through her anxiety and become the awesome family pet we know she can be! For more information about Bagel, please fill out an application! Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Hi everyone, my name is Posh, but I am also called Poshi Poo, Poshimus and a few other endearing nicknames! I am 2 years old, and I love life and everyone in it! I have lots of playful energy, love to go for walks, and am happy to chill out and watch some television too! I get along with most dogs, and haven't been overly interested in cats either. I love people most of all, and am happy to go wherever you want to go! She has been through formal training and would love to show you how smart she is. She walks well on a leash, and knows sit, down, heel, place, touch, and come, but is still working on 'drop it' because she loves her toys so much and hates to let them go - she will try to fit two in her mouth to avoid having to leave one behind! An active family without young children would be Posh's dream, she has an energetic spirit and loves to explore, but settles down when it is time to do so (and she's had enough exercise). She would love a family to continue her training, she is a really smart cookie! If you are interested in Posh, please click here to submit an application.

Posted Breed: Border Collie / Mixed (short coat). Bonnie is a very sweet natured little girl, approximately 3+ years old, who wants nothing more than to be loved. She’s a medium-size, at approximately 30-35 lbs. As with many rescues, Bonnie’s past is unknown, but we know it didn’t include much human love. She will need to go to a family with dog experience. She does have a fear of men, but will run away from men, and will need work to get past it. Her foster dad works with her daily, and she has shown great improvement. She also can be, on occasion, very skittish, and head shy. Her foster parents say Bonnie has become such a funny, loving, and spunky little beauty. She is very intelligent, gets along great with their pack of five dogs, and even though she’s not played with the neighbor kids, she gets happy and excited when she hears them. She is housebroken, crate trained, not a barker, and can easily be won over with patience, pieces of hot dogs (her favorite for training purposes!), belly rubs, back scratches, and kisses on her nose! It will take time, patience and love with this gorgeous little girl to have her as part of your family, but the rewards will be priceless.
