I am a 6-year-old Labrador Retriever that weighs 52 lbs. I come from a rough and scary background that has shaped me into who I am today. I’m looking for a patient forever family that can continue to shape me into the confident and brave dog that I long to be. I am a very shy girl and am mostly scared of everything. Until finding my foster home, I had never experienced the things that most dogs experience even as a young puppy. I’m just starting to get used to being around people that are nice to me. I get very nervous when meeting new people and just want to run away because I’m not sure of how they will treat me. It turns out that most people tend to be very nice. I have a very nice foster family that is teaching me what it’s like to feel love from humans. I adore the man in my foster family and like to follow him around. I really enjoy to snuggle with him to take a nap. I haven’t snuggled with anyone else yet, but I think I’ll get brave enough to try it eventually. In my foster home, I sleep in the basement. I have slept in my crate a few times but am more comfortable on my couch where it’s quiet and safe downstairs. My foster family has tried to introduce me to toys, but I don’t care much for them. I am still trying to learn how to tell my family that I need to go outside to potty. I have had a few accidents in the house because I couldn’t find a way to tell them that I needed to go potty. Outside can be a scary place with all the sounds though. Loud noises make me jump, especially when I’m outside. In my forever home, I will need another dog to show me how to become the confident family dog that I so desire to be. With the right family that understands my needs and past, I know I will continue to be rehabilitated and have a new life to shape who I am for the better! Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs. ADOPTION EVENTS: Please understand that all of our pets are in foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please email us to confirm attendance. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/ Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN. All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Breed: Labrador Retriever

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Border Collie (short coat). Adoption Fee: $350 plus tax Clydes tale is a sad one. He was a very scared shy dog when he came to the shelter so he did not show well. He has been at the shelter over a year. Clyde loves to play fetch and really focuses on his handler like a boarder collie would. He is not really interested in other dogs when he is with them and would do okay in a home with a calm well balenced dog. He is fearful of men but if you give him time he warms up. This guy needs out of the shelter badly he cannot learn to be a outgoing happy dog unless he gets into a home. URGENT: needs a temporary foster home, while we work to find a forever home. We cover all authorized medical expenses. You simply provide a safe, loving home! Why not take this opportunity to make a huge difference in the life of a sweet dog who needs some help? I’m about 2 years old and settling into my new life of retirement from being a full-time mama. I have so much more freedom now and am full of energy. My foster family is impressed with how smart I am. I'm almost potty trained and I’ve already learned some human commands such as down, kennel and leave it. As you can see, I am easily trainable and listen well. I’m working hard on my leash walking and can pull. I am just so excited to have freedom and get where I am going! I have also discovered playing fetch. It’s just about the best thing ever! They say I’m obsessed with it. I also love to play with tennis balls and about every toy out there. My foster family has tried every toy they have and I’ve loved each and every one. Not only do I love playing with toys, I enjoy playing with other dogs, too. I’m friendly with strangers after I give them a sniff to check them out. Stranger danger, am I right?! I have been known to bark when alarmed. Who wouldn’t? I just want to let you know I’m there. My foster family thinks I’d make a great companion dog. With all the progress I’ve made and what I have learned so far, I think so, too! What do you think? Are you the one to spend your days with me? Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Adoption Fee: 300. Date of birth (estimated): 6/14/14 Good with Dogs: Yes- but prefers one on one attention and to be alpha dog Good with Cats: unknown House Trained: yes Adoption Fee: $300 Hi, my name is Boo and I’m a very friendly, happy black lab (British Lab to be exact) that would love a permanent family of my very own. My foster mom said I’m happy all the time, so much in fact that she has not ever seen my tail stop wagging. Then again how could I not be happy when I get to do some of my favorite things like running along the side with humans while they bike, play and splash in a pool during hot summer afternoons and just plain hang with humans while they enjoy campfires in the backyard. It has been amazing discovering all these fun things since Furever Home Rescue saved me from a sad background. I love people so much that I always want to be right next to them and keep my eye on them. I also am eager to please and love it when we get to practice, sit, stay, down and play fetch. I would love a home with people that will give me a lot of attention and spend time with me being active. I am typically the alpha dog, but get along with submissive, playful other resident dogs. My foster mom also said she can see me being a star and doing diving and/or agility if someone works with me, as I’m very smart and good with voice commands. I was a hit at Petapalooza! If you are interested in meeting or adopting this animal, please read the following before submitting an adoption application on our website. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, 4Dx test (covers tick-borne diseases ( A naplasmosis , Lymes, E hrlichiosis) as well as heart worm) & de-worming. We ask that our dogs live indoors unless otherwise stated & agreed upon. We are a smaller group that typically takes on harder cases that require special homes so we ask that applicants live in our area - if you do not live in the MN or surrounding states, please contact us via email before submitting an application to determine whether the animal you are interested in is a case we are comfortable adopting out to a family out of our area.

He won't miss a chance to run, chase balls, or chew on toys. Playing tug-of-war and keep away with the other dogs is one of his favorites! He is still a bit shy when he is unexpectedly touched, but does very well when offered a hand or when he decides he is ready to approach you. His foster family has gradually worked with him on his fears of people and dogs and he has become such a healthy, happy boy with an outgoing personality. He is excited to show you! Collin is hard at work on his dog skills. He is so close to being housebroken and knows "stay" and a command for outside. Leashes still make him nervous and he hasn't quite become comfortable with them. He has some resource guarding with food and does better eating by himself in his kennel with no problem. And this boy LOVES rubs and kind words. He is a sweet boy looking for a patient and loving home. If you can provide a gentle, kind approach with positive reinforcement , Collin would be the perfect start tot he next chapter in your life novel! This puppy requires an application fee. Name: Sarge Age: DOB Approx. 6.5.14 Gender: Male Breed: Lab Weight: 70 Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Yes, older due to size and energy :) House Trained: Working on it Crate Trained: Yes Energy level: Moderate History: Pulled from an animal control Adoption Fee: $300.00 From the Foster: Sarge has a lot of energy and needs 2 to 3 walks a day. He loves kids but he still tramples over everyone, he gets very excited and does not pay attention to his surroundings. He would do well with kids 5 and older as toddlers easily topple over. He jumped my 4 foot fence so preferably a home with tall fences or rely on leashed walks for exercise. Sarge has not met a single person or dog he does not like. He's super cheerful, energetic and will demand pets from everyone. He would do well in a home with other dogs. With training Sarge has a ways to go, he doesn't chew on things, he goes in the kennel and sits patiently, and he's not the least bit aggressive. But he has had a few accidents in the house, he pulls on his leash and he doesn't know any commands. He is very smart though and eager to learn, he gets better each day. Sarge is sweet and all he really wants is affection. He yearns for positive reinforcement and attention. It's hard not to love him, set up a meeting and you'll see!

    Mieka

    Breed: Labrador Retriever
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Adoption Fee: 175.00. Gentle Mieka, 8, is well-mannered and eager to please. She is good with everything under the sun – kids of all ages, cats and dogs. Really, she just loves to cuddle up for affection with anyone. Mieka is also a very special pup – you see, she has diabetes. But don't let this scare you away from her – with the right family and good love and care, there is no reason she won't live a happy, healthy, normal life. Diabetics are superheroes, requiring insulin daily and special food – and with a great vet in your corner, the condition is VERY manageable. Mieka is pretty awesome if we must say – we fell in love with her immediately. She has a TON of life and love left to share with a new forever family. Diabetes may be a lifelong condition but it should not cast a shadow on an otherwise wonderful dog. Apply to adopt her at www.greyfacerescue.org/adoption-application Mieka's adoption fee is $175. Discount available for seniors (65+) and veterans. Adoption fees help pay for the dog's veterinary exam, vaccinations (rabies, distemper and bordetella), HW test, blood panel, flea and tick and heartworm prevention, a microchip and spay/neuter if needed. You can apply to adopt at www.greyfacerescue.org/adoption-application

    Breed: Labrador Retriever

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Name: Akoya Age: Approximate DOB 11/18/14 Gender: Female Breed: Labrador Retriever Weight: 60 pounds Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: No Kid friendly: Yes House trained: Yes Crate trained: Yes Energy level: Average History: Came to rescue pregnant and injured Adoption Fee: $300 From the Foster: Hi! I’m Akoya, or just Koya as my foster family calls me. I’m told that I’m a total sweetie once you get to know me. I do get a little nervous when I meet new people and this can cause me to become reactive (barking/growling), so upon first glance, I may not seem like the sweet girl that I am, but once you get to know me you’ll fall in love for sure! I love to lay on the couch with my foster family, watch the squirrels, and chew on rawhides. I’m a great sleeper and currently sleep at the end of my foster mom’s bed. My foster mom tells me that I’m not the easiest to walk, that’s because I like to pull a bit, and will become reactive if I see another dog. The gentle leader helps with this, and I usually do a bit better if you have time to prepare me first, (having me sit, and saying command “with me”) but if there’s multiple doggies approaching, it’s usually best to cross the street. I will lunge towards dogs, and appear intimidating to other walkers. I seem to be good with submissive dogs who are smaller then me, and it’s usually best to introduce me when I’m off the leash. My foster family thinks I am mixed with husky, so that explains why I like to be the alpha dog! I am very protective of my foster family, and the house that we live in. If anyone comes to the house or approaches someone in my family, my first instinct is always to protect them. This means that I’m usually not very nice to strangers (especially men), and it just takes me a little while to be comfortable when a guest is in my house. I’m working really hard on this and making progress every day. I’m 100% potty trained, and am very good at letting you know when I need to go out. It’s been said that I’m crate trained, but my foster family has given me free roam (with no issues) so we’re not quite sure about that. I’m a dog that likes structure and I definitely need someone who will act as a leader for me. I’m a dog that aims to please, I just need set rules. Oh, and I should mention that I’m super smart and know tons of commands! I’m told that I’m a dog that had a rough start to life, whatever that means, but apparently this is why I have the issues that I have. I need someone patient to help me be successful in my forever home. Could that be you?
