Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier. Beautiful Grace lives up to her name in more ways than one. Not only is she friendly with everyone she meets, she takes life in stride on just three legs. Grace was adopted from a public shelter in April of 2015 and sadly, her owner recently has been faced with a move and is unable to take this sweet girl with her. She's hopeful to find Grace the perfect new home! Grace is estimated to be 2 years of age and is spayed and current on her vaccines. She's fantastic with everyone she meets and is also great with kids and cats. She can be dog selective, so would love to be your one & only canine friend. She's the perfect balance of playful and calm and is very loving and affectionate. She knows many basic commands, including how to sit & stay when the doorbell rings or it's mealtime. She's housebroken and loves to go on walks and adventures! She's fantastic in the home and not destructive when left alone. If you're looking for a great canine friend, this beautiful girl is waiting for you! Grace is an adoptable dog through CCHS's Re-Homing Assistance Program and has not been met or evaluated by CCHS. If you are interested in knowing more about or potentially adopting Grace, please complete an adoption application and we'll gladly forward it on to her current guardian!

More About Labrador Retriever Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Chihuahua
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua. Rollie is the cutest, sweetest little 8lb. Chihuahua there is, and to say that her disposition is anything short of a miracle given her tough upbringing is an understatement! Rollie came to a public shelter after being brought in from a hoarding case. She clearly was loved by her person, but it's difficult for any animal to receive proper care when they're only one of dozens. She was fearful and shut down at the shelter, hiding in the back of the dog run and too afraid to make eye contact. But once she found herself in a great foster home, the wiggles came out full force! She is definitely one thing for sure: an absolute lovebucket! Not long after arriving at her foster home, her foster mom arrived home from work to find that little Rollie had managed to escape her dog run outdoors, where she was allowed to relax with her two resident dogs and bask in the sunshine for the day. Two days later, Rollie was brought to an emergency clinic by a concerned citizen after being found wandering, and the poor baby had been hit by a car. But did that slow down her shiny disposition and wagging tail? Nope! Not one bit. Rollie had to have cage rest after being found in order to best help her pelvis heal (surgery was explored but not recommended by surgeons), but as nothing has been easy in this girl's life, neither was healing - her pelvis did not realign. Amazingly though, her muscles and tendons have kept everything in place and this girl walks, plays and hops around as though nothing happened whatsoever. You would never know she'd been injured by looking at her. Rollie is estimated to be 3 years of age and is current on her vaccines and microchipped. She will be spayed for her forever home, too. She's absolutely fantastic with other dogs and while she appreciates a slow approach with new people after all she's been through, she'll warm up in no time given the right situation. She'll need a household where someone understands that long runs on the beach probably aren't in this girl's future, but walks, adventures and snuggling most certainly are! Because of her pelvic break, the space allowed for her colon is a bit restricted, so it's important to keep her on a stool softener three times/day and a special food to ensure that her stools can pass easily. Her forever home should understand that while her care is absolutely manageable, she does need special attention to ensure an easy quality of life. If you have a soft spot for helping dogs who've been dealt a rough hand previously, then we've got your girl for you! The hard times put the shine into the diamond, and a diamond this girl is. Posted Breed: Chihuahua. Can you even handle all of this floppy puppy cuteness?! Roo is a darling, affectionate, wants-to-be-by-your-side pup who craves human attention. He'll be your favorite little shadow. He's sweet and social and everything awesome about a puppy! Roo was brought to a public shelter at about 7 1/2 weeks of age with his five littermates (most likely an accidental litter, but they'd clearly been with mom as all were fat, healthy & clean). He is estimated to have been born on June 7th and is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. As with all young puppies, he'd do best in a home where someone isn't gone for 8-10 hours/day due to his young age, and our goal is to find him a home with another canine buddy to comfort him (he bonds closely and experience has shown that he has a difficult time adjusting to the separation from his canine companions otherwise). Expect to potty train, but also expect to be lavished on with adorable stinky puppy breath! Location: Foster Home

    • Jack Russell Terrier Dog For Adoption in Pleasant Hill, CA, USA

      Buster

      rescue
      Breed: Jack Russell Terrier
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Miniature Pinscher. Buster is a playful, outgoing, social, energetic little loverboy who will thrive in a home where he can lead an active lifestyle with someone! Not only is he adorable, but he's great with other dogs and loves everyone he meets. He's always up for an adventure and loves to live life to the fullest! Buster is estimated to have been born in January of 2017, weighs between 25-30lbs., and is neutered and current on his vaccines. He was adopted off of Craigslist when he was just a puppy, but due to his adoptive mom's busy work schedule, she feels she's not able to give him the time and energy outlets that he needs to thrive (he does have Jack Russel Terrier in his line, after all!). He knows many basic commands and is crate trained; he's about 90% potty-trained but will thrive best in a home where he can have consistent activity outlets and a routine for his full housebreaking training. He's been great with older kids, and his adoptive mom would love to see him in a home with a family where someone is around often so that he isn't alone a lot. If he had another canine playmate in the home, that would be an extra bonus! More than anything, this little guy just needs exercise and enrichment due to his breed mixture and young age. He's not well-suited as an apartment dog and will need a home looking for a high-energy playmate (for example, if you are a runner, have interest in Rally, want an active dog park dog, etc.). If you're looking for a fun-loving, adorable little guy to mold into the perfect BFF, check Buster out! Buster is available through CCHS's Re-Homing Assistance Program and has not been met or evaluated by CCHS. If you're interested in meeting Buster, please complete an adoption application and we'll gladly pass it along to his current guardian. Thank you!

Posted Breed: Chihuahua. It's the perfect season for a little Apple Pie! And you'll just want to lick up every last morsel of this cutie-patootie, trust us. Apple Pie is a total dollface! She's super affectionate and playful, loves to run zoomies and is very smart - she picked up on housetraining in her new foster home on the first day (score!). She's been really well-behaved with the other animals in her foster home, too. There's no doubt that when a dog knows they're safe, they finally feel like they can let loose and enjoy life a bit more! Apple Pie is estimated to be between 4-5 years of age and is microchipped and vaccinated. She's scheduled to be spayed by mid-October, too. She'll do awesome in an adult household with or without other animals, but definitely with someone who's looking for a loyal, fun, loving little buddy dog. She's not just a slice of pie, she's the entire sweet pie with a big dollop of whipped cream on top! Location: Foster Home A big thanks to our friends at Smart Paws Pet Resources for their wonderful photos of this little cutie pie!

Posted Breed: Chihuahua. Well hello little cutie pie! Darling little Natalie is an adorable, snuggly, happy, playful little Chihuahua mix girl who's melted in beautifully to her foster family's home, and we have no doubt that she'll do just the same with her forever family! She's really well-mannered, very sweet and obedient. Natalie is estimated to be 2 years of age and is spayed, microchipped and current on her vaccines. She'll do great in an adult home or one with kids over the age of about 8 years old (who are familiar with handling small dogs), and while we don't have direct experience with her around other dogs or cats, she has a gentle demeanor and would very likely blend beautifully given appropriate introductions and some time to adjust. She's about 90% potty trained and will need a home that's able to continue working on routine and consistency when it comes to getting to 100%! She's a happy little girl who bring smiles to one family's life for many years to come! Location: Foster Home

      Bella

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / American Pit Bull Terrier. Beauty is in her name! Bella is a very sweet, very affectionate Pittie mix who's smaller frame lends her to being the perfect travel-sized companion. She adores being held and lavishing people with a full face-wash of kisses, and she's very open and trusting. Her resiliency is amazing given her fairly traumatic recent past. Bella was confiscated by Animal Control on suspicion of cruelty; she had bite wounds all over body and she was limping on her front leg. Soon after arriving at the shelter, it was also discovered that she was far along in a pregnancy. She was allowed to go to a caring foster home through a rescue group, but the stress and trauma were too much; one by one, each of her newly born eight pups passed away, leaving Bella to be a new mom without any mouths to feed. Charges were not filed against her previous owner, but that person never returned for this sweet girl. Fortunately for her, the rescue group who took her in - Good Newz Pittie Pups Rescue - and her loving foster weren't going to give up on her, too. Given just a bit of time, this diamond began to shine! Bella is estimated to be 1 year of age and is spayed and vaccinated. She's been great with other dogs, but would prefer a home without cats, or one with someone familiar with desensitizing her to cats appropriately (What?! They're not there to chase?!). She's also been great with kids. She's crate-trained and nearly spot on with her potty training, though after being kept as an outdoor dog for most of her life, a little time and patience while she learns the routine should be expected. She wants nothing more than to be part of your pack and someone's very best friend, and after all she's been through in just the last few months, we think she deserves nothing short of the moon and stars! Bella is a courtesy post for Good Newz Pittie Pups Rescue. CCHS has not met or evaluated Bella. For more information on Bella, please contact Lori at pittie-pups@pennantsystems.com, or you may complete an adoption application through the CCHS website, which will be forwarded to Lori. Thank you!

      Breed: Mutt

      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier (Parson Russell Terrier) (short coat). This very special senior boy is looking for a loving person to call his own. Coco is a very happy, sweet and gentle senior boy who is in need of a forever home - his loving owner is planning extensive travels and will be living overseas for a portion of the year - and so Coco is hoping that someone will provide him a loving family in his retirement years. Coco is a darling Jack Russell Terrier who is just shy of 12 years of age and is neutered and current on his vaccines. Weighing just 12-15lbs., he's a great small size! Coco has lost his eyesight and so needs a home comfortable with having a blind dog, but he's acclimated beautifully and still loves to go on walks and play. He's fully housebroken and uses a dog door with ease, and he's had much experience with his owner's grandkids and has been wonderful with them. He's a great dog who also loves to be in your lap if given the opportunity. He'll make a great companion for a special person looking for an easy-going, good-natured, gentle dog who's hopeful for a family of his own. Coco is a courtesy listing through our Re-Homing Assistance Program and has not been met or evaluated by CCHS.
