Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Chisel was returned because his family was moving and wasn't able to take him. His life was just turned upside down and all he wants is love and attention. He is a great dog, but is very misunderstood. He is high energy so he needs lots of exercise. He loves to play in the yard and run around. We suggest he be the only dog in the home, with owners who are able to be loving and patient as well as strong and capable of training him. We believe he may be fearful of tall men. He is very fearful of many things. We suggest that he goes into a quiet home where he can relax and not be so scared. He takes a little bit to come out of his shell and bonds more easily to women.

More About Labrador Retriever Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Mountain Cur / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. If you have some land and you would like to share it with a wonderful bonded pair of 2 dogs Fred and Ginger are the one's for you. These two dogs have been overlooked long enough now. They need to be together, they are siblings and just love each other so much. Both like to run and play with toys. They are not that large that the two of them would be in your way. Their hearts are so full of love and all they wish is to have a family and home. They are available for fostering and/or adoption. So if you are feeling lonely and have a backyard just sitting there not being used maybe Fred and Ginger can share it with you. Fred and Ginger were left abandoned, tied to a vet's office door. They are both housetrained, like other dogs and cats, and enjoy their baths. The two of them are very happy and playful dogs and enjoy human snuggling more than anything. They love each other and would love to be adopted together. Both dogs are heartworm positive and literature will be supplied regarding the slow kill method which is safe and works great!

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Hound / American Bulldog (short coat). Adoption Fee: 125.00. She was living in the woods with her two babies, Natasha and Boris. Darling was a fantastic mom who made sure her babies were taken care of (please view the photo of her and her little girl Natasha below). 12.17.17 Dog 4 a Day update: We took Bender and Darling to Lake Eola on Saturday to participate in the dog for a day program. They did great! Although they are very timid their behavior changes when they are outside. They walk great and even better when they are together. They did not demonstrate any aggressive behavior towards dogs or humans and they let other humans pet them. We had a wonderful day and we were able to bring my dog and other two dogs with us and they all got along well. I am attaching a couple of pictures although it was difficult to capture more because we had too many dogs and they got distracted. She is very shy but sweet. We are trying to introduce her to new people so that she becomes more relaxed when meeting people she doesn't know. She is living with Judy now and is totally housetrained and loving! She is also good with other dogs and enjoys playing with them. She is anxiously awaiting her time to have a forever home and enjoy being loved.

Posted Breed: Boxer / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Bender is a sweet boy, very gentle and loving with others. He is a bit shy when first meeting people, so the ideal home for him would be a loving family who can help build his confidence! He enjoys being outside and playing with other dogs. 12.17.17 Dog 4 a Day Update: We took Bender and Darlin to Lake Eola on Saturday to participate in the dog for a day program. They did great! Although they are very timid their behavior changes when they are outside. They walk great and even better when they are together. They did not demonstrate any aggressive behavior towards dogs or humans and they let other humans pet them. I am attaching a couple of pictures although it was difficult to capture more because we had too many dogs and they got distracted. Foster update 2/7/17: Bender was fabulous with our Down's Syndrome child. He couldn't have been any more caring with all of us. He does have separation anxiety and would do best with a family who is home most of the day. Having another dog in the home to play with him would make Bender very happy! Dog 4 A Day Update: Bender is such a sweetheart!! He was really well-behaved and mellow all day. We had no problems walking him on the leash. He stayed close to me or went a little ahead to explore most of the time. He was interested in the other dogs at the park and was friendly with all of them. He liked being around children and let them pet him. We went to get food and he was happy to lay down and hang out on the patio with us while we ate. Every time we were in the car he just quietly curled up in the back seat and fell asleep or looked out the window. Overall, he's a very sweet, relaxed dog. If I could have a dog where I lived I would adopt him in a heartbeat! He just needs a loving home!

      Jaelyn the F...

      Breed: American Bulldog-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 100.00. Foster update 12-14-17: Jaelyn has been a great foster dog to have. She is very content to be laying on your lap while you are watching tv. She also loves to be outside chasing the ball. She has plenty of energy to get out. She loves nightly walks. She loves my 13 year old daughter. My roommate has a 10 month old and Jaelyn will walk up and lick him and that is about all she cares to do. Jaelyn loves to be the center of attention. If I'm hugging my daughter she wants to be in on the hug as well. She thinks she is a lap dog. So she will be on your lap while sitting on your sofa. While in bed she loves to cuddle up to you. At night she has her bed at the bottom of ours and sleeps there. Some nights she does sneek in bed with us and she likes to take up the whole bed. We have to tell her your bed and after a few times she will go lay on her bed. She knows basic commands. She knows sit, down, stay and shake. Also while playing with her ball you must tell her sit than release a few times and she will drop the ball. She has no problem with the sound of small power tools (scroll or skill saw). She does not like and is afraid of longer objects like a broom handle or 2x4 pieces of wood. Her favorite snack we found is cow ears and Milkbone plain flavor bones. Dog 4 a Day Update 8.26.17: So we did dog for a day with Jaelyn . She is the sweetest dog. When she wags her tail, her entire back half wags. She made herself right at home and was so loving. When I gave her scratches, she would push her entire body into my leg. She loves to cuddle on the couch and sit right up next to you. She has no problems with car rides. We live about 30 min from Pet Rescue by Judy, and she had no problems coming or going. She just curled up into a little ball in the back seat. We ended up going for about a mile long walk to a local restaurant that has a dog friendly porch. She was great on a leash, only pulled a little when she saw something interesting like a squirrel. For the most part though, she walked on my left side with slack on the leash. When we got to the restaurant for lunch she just laid under the table at our feet. I tied her to the chair and she was just a perfect behaved angel. She didn't even beg for our food. She does know "sit" and I think she would be easily trained. After the mile long walk back I think she was pretty tired. We all ended up hanging out on the couch together and falling asleep. She's a good napper. There were a couple times where we'd go to throw a toy or make a sudden movement and she would cower. It made me wonder if maybe she comes from a not so nice household. We made sure to give her lots of love and scratches. I really hope Jaelyn gets adopted!! She is very deserving. Jaelyn was found running across 1792. Luckily she was safe getting across. One of our volunteers saw her and knew she needed assistance. Our kennel worker went outside to get her and poor Jaelyn was in bad shape. Very skinny, fleas, gum stuck to her back legs and starving, she also had a litter of babies. We gave her a nice bath, flea med, fed her and she is now showing her true colors. She seems to enjoy being with people and running around the lobby, she does not like cats and appears fine with other dogs. We will continue to evaluate her. She will make a magnificent pet to a very lucky family. Jaelyn is heartworm positive but we have started on the slow kill method. Information on this success treatment will be provided at time of adoption or fostering. At Pet Rescue by Judy we only use this method and it has been proven very very successful.

Posted Breed: American Bulldog (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Cleatus is a beautiful, friendly dog that was found as a stray and surrendered to a high kill shelter. We rescued him and now it is our job to find him the best home ever. He is cratetrained and walks well on a leash. He is particular about the kind of dogs he likes, and would prefer to be with a calm dog, smaller than him. We feel he may not like high energy dogs and small dogs. If you are interested in meeting Cleatus please fill out an adoption application, and once approved an appointment will be set up so you can meet him! the American Bulldog is alert, confident and loyal to its people. Brave and strong-willed, the American Bulldog will do best when trained from a young age on and with an owner that isn't afraid to establish themselves as a strong pack leader. A breed with strong protective instincts, Bulldogs are known for their acts of heroism towards their owners and can sometimes be reserved with strangers. American Bulldogs require plenty of regular exercise to prevent boredom and encourage it to be a well-trained dog during the day.

If you are interested in spending some quality time with our sweet boy, please turn in an application, and he would be so happy to go on an adventure with you. Beasley and his family were in the hands of a backyard breeder. They were neglected and in need of being rescued, so one of our volunteers offered to take the litter of their hands and find them a better home. Posted Breed: Poodle (Miniature) / Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 100.00. We could not say no to this sweet senior, Max, who was owner surrendered to a high kill shelter. He is a 17 year old dog who really needs a home to relax for the rest of his life. He is on a few different medications that help his heart and arthritis. He goes out with our other small dogs and walks very well on a leash, but he does have a tendency to bark a lot. He also has some vision problems, but it does not seem to bother him. He does not require any treatment for his eyes at this time. He has had a dental procedure done, but still has fistulas on his canine teeth. Our vet feels that it would be too much to put him under anesthesia again. He needs a nice, calm home to relax. He is available for fostering or adoption and is up to date on all shots. Max knows there is someone out there that would love his company! Please put an application in for Max and he will show you a special kind of love. DOG FOR A DAY Outing Report: "I had Max for the Dog 4 a Day Program on Saturday, July 29 and he is a sweet dog. He only barked occasionally at my house for instance when my daughter was leaving. He wouldn't play with any toys and he didn't want to lay on the couch with us but he did enjoy the 3 short walks we took. He walked well on the leash, staying right beside me and didn't pu ll at all. In my house my cat was hiding under the couch and Max could tell he was there. He was very fixated on the couch knowing the cat was there. He didn't try to attack the cat even when the cat hissed him. In fact, he didn't even bark at the cat. I think it was just curiosity. You would never know that Max is 17 years old, he seems and acts much younger."

Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. His girlfriend is Karma that's having a litter of 5 @ Lisa Cooper. Tigger is a very handsome boy... but more prominent is his completely silly personality! He sees his tail out of the corner of his eye and flips around like a kitten. He is so self-entertaining, it’s comical! He’s also very interested in his shadow, but hasn’t figured out how to chase it as it just won’t seem to run… but that tail is fast! Tigger loves other dogs, but he is doggie selective. Tigger is a newcomer (6/10/17) to PRBJ so we are still learning his ways, but probably safe to say at this point that he would not do well with kitties since he likes to chase (although his sponsor says she will work on that – we will see!). When he saw children at the vets office he was very excited to go play, but again, we’ve not had him in that arena just yet. He came to us with a little female and the two of them seemed to be pretty well bonded. He hasn’t shown any issues with other dogs, so with proper introductions, should be fine with a doggie brother or sister. He’s a strong boy but very compact weighing in at just over 40 pounds. This silly boy would make a great companion for anyone who wants to have a pup with lots of energy to keep up with their active life style.
