Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). MEET DYNO! Age: est 4-5 years Breed: Lab mix Sex: neutered male Weight: est 50- 55lbs Training: crate trained, does well with our routine in the house, he knows sit and eager to learn more Dynamite a/k/a Dyno is a white lab mix that was found on a lonesome dirt road. We named him Dynamite because he was underweight and told him Dynamite comes in small packages :). He grew into his big feet and weighs about 55lbs now. He is very handsome and has a wonderful personality. Dyno will make a wonderful companion for an active family with a fenced in yard. He loves to run and play, but don't let him fool you! He loves to cuddle, too :). He is about 4-5 years old, and is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. He can be shy upon first meeting new people and takes just a little time to warm up. He is very playful and loving once he gets to know you! He loves toys and is very careful with his stuffed ones not to destroy them. Please message us for an adoption application for Dyno.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      rescue
      Breed: Chiweenie
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Blacksburg, SC
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Meet Bliss! Breed: chihuahua/dachshund mix, maybe some jack Russell in the mix Age: est 4 years Color: mostly white with a little tan Sex: Spayed female Weight: about 10lbs Vaccinations: current on vaccines and preventatives Good with dogs?: yes Good with cats?: no Good with adults?: shy and timid at first Good with kids?: good with older kids who are knowledgeable about dogs. Due to her timidness at first, she needs older kids only in her new home. She has done well with a 4 year old visitor in her foster home. Crate trained?: yes House trained?: she does well with our routine, but we always recommend guidance until a new pet transitions Leash trained?: she needs work with this. She does best on a harness. Personality: once she is comfortable, she is very sweet and confident in her foster home. She is the only small dog in her foster home and she doesn't know it:). She does great with small dogs as well. Upon first meeting, she is skittish. She is very food motivated so that is the way to her heart. She is very affectionate and playful. She has never lived in a home without other dogs, so ideally her new home should have at least one other dog. Due to her not yet being leash trained, a fenced yard is required. She is very silly and loves to play. Bliss will make someone a wonderful companion. Give her a little patience and TLC (...and treats!), and in return she will give you heart!
