Please don't let the distance stop you because we provide FREE, safe transport to your home! If you like long legged, graceful, athletic, love-bugs then Tori is just who you've been looking for! Tori is a gorgeous young lady with short honey-colored hair and the most beautiful green eyes you've even gazed into! She has a slight chocolate saddle which accentuates her girlish figure and a smile that will make any supermodel jealous! But most of all she's a wonderful girl who wants to be a part of a family or have a special person to call her own. Tori's estimated DOB is November 2010 and she weighs approximately 40 lbs. ***This beautiful dog is currently in the shelter in Tennessee but has received full vet care and we will provide FREE volunteer transport to a foster or forever home…please don’t let that stop you from adopting! We are accepting applications to ADOPT OR FOSTER each of the Tennessee dogs listed so they can get out of the shelter. **Sea Dog Rescue is a foster home based rescue - we do not have a shelter or kennel facility nor do we have regular hours when our companions can be seen. For the safety of our foster caregivers and our dogs, applications must be submitted and references checked prior to setting an appointment for a Meet and Greet with our dogs in our foster homes.** All of our dogs have some potty training under their belly, however, dogs less than 8 months of age are not considered reliably potty trained. Most of our dogs less than 6 months of age are not yet spayed or neutered but this will be done by the rescue when they are 6 months old and is included in the adoption fee; these dogs enter homes as "Foster to Adopt" and ownership transfer will not occur until after surgical sterilization is completed. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Boxer / Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). INGA PUPDATE JULY 2017: Sweet Inga will be transferring to a Training Foster home in Elizabeth City, NC. She is on hold and not available to go into a new home until she completes her training, but she's a quick study and we hope she'll finish her studies soon! Please stay tuned for updates on Inga and to learn when she's ready to join her new family! Study hard, Inga! At the shelter, I was known as “Lady Inga”, but my Ship Mate name was shortened to “Inga”…which I kinda like, because it means “Hero’s Daughter”, and then there’s the whole being protected by the Norse god of peace thing that I've got going for me! I guess that's one reason I’m pretty confident and I’m so curious! The world is my oyster and I would enjoy having a partner or family who will include me on their awesome adventures! I can be the best running partner ever (I’m fast as lightenin’!), we could do zoomies around an agility course, or we could just horse around in the back yard or the beach or the forest! I’m a girl on the go and I’d love to share that with my new family! Inga is approximately a year old (est. DOB 2/28/2016) and is a gorgeous, athletic, friendly girl who loves to show her joyful side; she is good with people, other dogs, and is not recommended with cats or other small furry animals. Inga will positively thrive with a regular diet of plenty of exercise fun, including short training games to really set her naturally good doggy manners. Her innate loyalty and love are impossible to deny when you squat down and invite her to hug you. Her little paws wrap around your neck, and she offers kisses if you want them. A true love bug with an active side, she's a compact, muscular girl of about 50 pounds and is up for a game the moment you invite her to play. *Sea Dog Rescue is a foster home based rescue - we do not have a shelter or kennel facility nor do we have regular hours when our companions can be seen. Posted Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever (short coat). " Hello from Mr. Mellow-Yellow" (aka General)! WAIT! General is a calm, settled, slightly-older-but-still-moderately-active gentleman and is your dream dog if you like well-behaved, easy-going fellas. This is your sign!!! Don't click past him because he's not a young pup. General came to Sea Dog Rescue after losing his family as a result of Hurricane Matthew in 2016. He was super skinny when he became an SDR Ship Mate and has since spent most of his time in the galley...eating more chow...steadily putting on the pounds he needed. He's never looked more handsome, and he's now a respectable, almost-70 pounds! General is low key, yet still, likes to get out and go (he rides great in the car!) and is a loyal companion. He fits like a well-worn glove and is undemanding of attention, yet adores being petted and being close to you. His steady-on personality and serenity allow him to fit in with most any family, and he'll thrive with a family and home that has an active, laid-back vibe. He's a go with the flow kind of guy. General was tested with cats during his stay at the vet's office and did great with them, and he is very dog-friendly. He lives with another dog in his Wilmington, NC foster home, and socializes well with new doggy friends. General also adores attention and soaks up affection from people of all ages. Generals' estimated DOB is October 2005 and he weighs about 70 lbs. He is neutered, potty trained, micro-chipped, and has great house manners. General will do well in a home with other animals and does well with people of all ages; children should always be directly supervised around any dog. Because General loves a nap on the patio or deck, we want him to have a home where he can continue to enjoy this past-time; General would prefer a home with a fenced yard so he can safely laze about, enjoying the breeze for a little while on a nice day. He's a mellow-yellow-fellow and is ready to join your family now! SEE MORE PHOTOS OF GENERAL ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE! *Sea Dog Rescue is a foster home based rescue - we do not have a shelter or kennel facility nor do we have regular hours when our companions can be seen. This beautiful dog is currently at our partner shelter in Dresden, TN and is eager to live life indoors! Please don't let the distance stop you because we provide FREE, safe transport to your home! “Dogs are minor angels, and I don't mean that facetiously. They love unconditionally, forgive immediately, are the truest of friends, willing to do anything that makes us happy, etcetera." (Jonathan Carroll) Baron is truly an angel who has forgiven the neglect he endured, is a true friend, and is all about having fun! When Baron was found, he had non-contagious Demodex mange so badly that he had very little fur on his body; he was a hot mess of scabs and open sores, and it hurt him to touch his skin. He received the vet care he needed and now he is a beautiful boy with silky soft fur and weighs in at a healthy 32 pounds! In spite of the neglect that Baron endured he is a happy go lucky young dog with a joie de vivre that can't be denied. Baron loves to run and play with other dogs and with people (including kids), and he is even potty trained, crate trained, and does well on a leash. He also enjoys going for car rides and would love to go with you all kinds of new and exciting places! Baron truly is an angel who loves unconditionally, has forgiven the neglect he suffered, and will be your very best friend! *This beautiful dog is currently in the shelter in Tennessee but has received full vet care and we will provide FREE volunteer transport to a foster or forever home...please don't let that stop you from adopting! This beautiful dog is currently at our partner shelter in Dresden, TN and is eager to live life indoors! Please don't let the distance stop you because we provide FREE, safe transport to your home! "Exuberant!" That's the best word to describe Jack. He always seems happy! Jack is a smart boy, and he loves to retrieve. He hasn't been leash trained, but he'll go along with the whole idea, and does not pull like crazy, just because there's a person at the other end of the leash. He absolutely loves being with people and is good with kids. Jack gets along well with other dogs, but people are more his type! Jack would benefit from some basic obedience skills training because he's a wonderful boy who is too smart to be left untrained. Adopt (or foster) Jack and learn what a joy it is to work with a smart dog who is focused and has a real desire to make you proud of him! She is one of the most beautiful dogs we have ever seen! She is also a very happy, sweet girl who is looking for her Furever home!! Champagne will need some training as she has a lot of energy, but that makes her a great candidate for agility or just romping around in the backyard! She is ready for her furever home with a family that will love her and spend time with her on walks, playing in the yard, and training. Champagne is great with people and other dogs. She may be a little too hyper at first for smaller children. My name is Ringo, although I'm not sure if it's because I'm such a rock star or if it's because I have rings on my beautiful tail! I lived on my own for a long time, and several people tried to catch me. Most of them weren't successful, but one young lady managed to snare me. She took me to the vet, and I was vaccinated (ouch!) neutered (whose idea was that?), and loved (YES!). I stayed at the clinic from October until December because there was no place else for me to go. I was a bit shy when I first arrived there, but the vet techs played with me when they could. Now I have many, many friends, both two-legged and four. I am great with kids too! I'm no longer at all frightened of people, and I can't wait to belong with someone special. As a bonus, I enjoy walking and am good on a leash. I am a calm and happy boy! I know that someone is going to say, 'That's the boy for me!' very soon, and I'll be packing my toys and heading out. Today could be that day! ***This beautiful dog is currently in the shelter in Tennessee but has received full vet care and we will provide FREE volunteer transport to a foster or forever home…please don’t let that stop you from adopting!
