Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Amy has spent her whole life with children and cats whom she loves. She is quite mellow in the house, but she will let you know when the doorbell rings. Amy does not jump - just wags her tail in greeting. We should all be so vibrant! When Amy was a puppy, she was attacked by small dogs at a dog park. Since then, she is fearful of small dogs at her home. Despite her owner’s watch over 10 years, Amy did recently dash out the front door and bite a neighbor's small dog. Her current owners cannot bear to take her to a shelter as she’ll be euthanized (age, bite history). They live on a busy suburban corner where many dogs walk daily and the neighbors will not let her stay in her home. In a different location, this incident would never have happened. She is truly a big ball of love, she just has this very minor special need to not allow small dogs near hear home. Please contact Amy's Guardian Angel: michelle@michiko.org 858.774.7449

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Age: Adult
      Location: Fallbrook, CA
Posted Breed: Mastiff / Great Dane / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Buzz is the sweetest dog around. He is a super friendly, gentle giant and is just dying to give you all the love he has to offer. He is very outgoing and full of energy. He has recently been neutered and is up to date with vaccines. He is very good with people and other dogs - he runs and plays with his older and younger sister who are small breed dogs. Buzz loves to cuddle and give you wet kisses. He is a super lovable dog and so sweet. Buzz needs a new home where he can get the full attention, love and care he needs. He is currently an outdoor dog, living in a garage with a small side yard. His current owner's daughter loves him too much to see him go through life without the care and attention he deserves, so she has approval to find him a new home. Buzz needs someone to spend time with him, take him out and give him walks . He is a very good dog and the right person will not regret adopting him! Buzz does have a skin condition, which causes his skin to look dry with some hair loss - it is improving with oatmeal baths and is not contagious. He will be receiving Vet treatment through a donation to clear up the condition very shortly. Buzz has rarely been inside, so as a result he has had accidents in the house. With the right care and training, there should be no difficulty with house training or obedience training. He has a special affinity to women and of course to treats! Please contact Michelle at dogzinneed@yahoo.com or 760-390-8973 to meet Buzz

      Breed: German Shepherd Dog-Husky Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Fallbrook, CA
Posted Breed: Husky / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Milo had been at a shelter since mid-July. He was an owner turn in. After over 150 dogs were brought in to the shelter from a hoarding situation, Milo was listed to be put down. But when they went to fetch him, he was not in his designated kennel. Was it a mix-up or was he a staff favorite or an act of an angel we will never know...He has since been rescued and is in boarding in Covina, CA. Milo is an awesome dog! A bit of a clown and really smart. He’s currently in training, working with leash manners and food (mealtime) aggression. Milo knows how to site and lay down and is very gentle with taking the treats. He loves long walks and hiking. Milo is great meeting new people. He was a favorite at the shelter and loves socializing on visits to his favorite store Petco. Milo would be best in a home with older kids who can understand his behavior at mealtime. He’s great with other dogs, especially gentle with small dogs. He is most deserving of a wonderful forever family! Please contact Milo's Guardian Angel: Jo at For Love of Animals at fla@flarescue.org or (626) 524-1939 or Elsa Padres padres1@att.net or 951.741.2806

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Scarlett was thankfully rescued from Orange County Animal Control on her last day by Underdog Foster Network. She was previously abandoned at a park in Santa Ana. Scarlett has great manners, thanks to the training provided by Canine Behavioral Specialist Brigitte Shaw. She loves to run, play ball, hike, or just cuddle on the couch or go for long car rides. Scarlett would do best in a home with no small children and where she is the only pet. Everywhere Scarlett goes, she wins over hearts with her sweet nature. She is currently boarded at Alicia Pet Care in Mission Viejo and the staff ADORES her! She was first boarded at Hamilton Animal Hospital and the staff didn't want to see her go... Please contact Scarlett's Guardian Angel to meet her: Roni Raczkowski, ronir@msn.com 714-878-3796

      Petey

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Labbe
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Baby
      Location: Fallbrook, CA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Beagle / Mixed. Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Petey the pup is a 5-month old puppy named after the dog from The Little Rascals. When he first came to his foster family, he was skin and bones with ribs showing. The vet thought he had been out on his own for about a week based on his malnourished state and possibly mistreated since he had an initial fear of people. From the looks of his floppy ears, he may be beagle mixed with a larger dog, possibly a lab. He has brown spot over one eye while the other is white like his movie star namesake. He has green eyes, one eye has white lashes, the other has black lashes, like the character from Star Trek. He has many brown spots, and just adorable all the way around. If you ask his foster parent, he is much more handsome than the movie star that he's named after. Petey was found as a stray when he was only about 2 months old. He loves to play with his foster dog buddies, one large dog of 70 lbs and one small dog of 15 lbs. He thinks cats are small dogs, and wants to play with them, though he backs off readily when cats protest. It seems the only thing on his mind is play, play, play. It's funny to see how he keeps himself entertained; when you call his name, he tap dances with his front paws as in the video. People have commented how hilarious Petey plays with his other foster dog cousins at the dog beach and dog parks. They are comedians! He's extremely shy of people, but very playful with other dogs. He regularly goes to the dog beach and dog parks where he runs around with other dogs. In these environments, he doesn't mind approaching people in the course of play. To help him be less shy of people, he is going consistently to places where people are around such as parks, home improvement stores, and sitting outside the library. His forever home should provide an environment to continue getting him comfortable with people. Though house trained, Petey is still a puppy discovering the world, and has puppy issues. His forever home should anticipate puppy behaviors and work with him. He is a quick learner, loves praises, and of course, he loves treats. Based on the size of his giant paws, he will grow up to be a big boy. Lots of love and his easy going nature will make him the best and most handsome dog companion you could hope for. His forever home should be a private residence with a sizable yard fo rhim to play, and his owners need to have the time to take him on walks or to the dog park/dog beach on a daily basis. As a puppy, he will need some training, and an experienced dog owner is preferable. He should also be exposed to people as often as possible. He will be great with another dog, and gets along with cats after the cat get used to his enthusiasm. Petey has full vaccines and is neutered.
