Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Amy has spent her whole life with children and cats whom she loves. She is quite mellow in the house, but she will let you know when the doorbell rings. Amy does not jump - just wags her tail in greeting. We should all be so vibrant! When Amy was a puppy, she was attacked by small dogs at a dog park. Since then, she is fearful of small dogs at her home. Despite her owner’s watch over 10 years, Amy did recently dash out the front door and bite a neighbor's small dog. Her current owners cannot bear to take her to a shelter as she’ll be euthanized (age, bite history). They live on a busy suburban corner where many dogs walk daily and the neighbors will not let her stay in her home. In a different location, this incident would never have happened. She is truly a big ball of love, she just has this very minor special need to not allow small dogs near hear home. Please contact Amy's Guardian Angel: michelle@michiko.org 858.774.7449

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Harley

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Harley is a beautiful and playful Labrador mix. He is a little over a year old - we celebrate his birthday the first week of August. Harley is fully-grown weighing in at 80 lbs and standing about 2 feet tall. Harley has gorgeous gold eyes filled with curiosity and love. We’ve had Harley since he was 8 weeks old. He’s grown up with a family of kids, including 4 young girls with the youngest being 2 years old. Harley is very playful and full of energy. Great with kids, very mindful of the youngest and very careful around her and others. Harley loves to run around, go on walks and play fetch, although he hasn’t quite learned how to drop the ball yet : ) Harley loves to play tug-of-war with ropes and other toys. He likes treats and is very obedient, especially when he knows he has a treat or food coming. Harley knows how to sit, lay down and is working on rolling over. He loves attention, and unfortunately does not get enough with our hectic life. We are relocating to a home in another state where we cannot bring him and although it breaks our hearts, we know he will make a great addition to a loving and caring household. Harley is very curious about everything. He loves people and other dogs. Whenever he is around other dogs he is very friendly and playful, same with people. He likes going on walks and seeing everything around him. Harley is all black with a white patch on his chest. Harley has semi-droopy ears and a shorter snout than a full bred lab. Harley is very strong and needs someone who can handle his strength and be firm as well when needed. Harley is very, very smart and learns quickly. All of Harley’s vaccinations are up to date, he is neutered and he has been seen regularly at the Banfield Medical Facility in PetSmart. Although Harley is usually an outside dog, he does very well in the house as well. He doesn’t chew on furniture or destroy anything, just looks for food on the floor and once he knows there isn’t any, he will lay down next to you and be a great companion. Harley is a very loving and devoted dog, as well as a great watch dog. He’s protective and always notifies us when someone is around, just barking and letting us know someone is close. If you're interested in adopting Harley, please contact Mark McDonald at mark@goldstandardtelecom.com or 951-514-5883 or Kim Martin at kmartin@socopac.com or 760-908-6146

      Breed: Mastador
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Baby
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Mastiff / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Dexter is a beautiful mixed breed dog (Mastiff, Lab, Pit and Shepherd with lots of energy. He loves to play and cuddle and thinks he’s a lap dog. He also loves going on car rides and walks, playing with his Kong toys, squeaky toys and tug-a-war. His fetch needs some work, but he'adores chasing balls :-) Dexter is happy to pass the time basking in the sun or digging in the backyard. Since he's long and tall, he can't reach his lower back on his own and will melt in happiness when you scratch him there. Dexter can be timid around strangers and other dogs, but is fine once he gets to know them. He was rescued at about 4 weeks old along with his sister, and has become the timid one since his sister is so dominant. He has had obedience training, but needs more and trainers have advised that Dexter will thrive if he's separated from his sister. His current owners are heartbroken to have to re-home him and want to make sure he goes to a loving home and not a shelter. Dexter will be a loving and amazing dog fin a home with with an established adult(s) with free time on their hands to execrcise and train him. Please contact Michelle at dogzinneed@yahoo.com or 760-390-8973 to meet Dexter!

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Sweet brothers Sarge and Pudge recently lost their beloved owner when he passed away suddenly. They are a bonded pair from the same litter and were loved unconditionally. Both love to be petted, be around people and to PLAY. They do well with kids, other dogs and would thrive in a family situation where they can be walked and loved. Pudge LOVES a tennis ball... he will get territorial over his ball, but neither dog has any issues with being around other dogs. Pudge has a scar with missing fur on his side from an injury when he got caught in a fence when he was smaller. Sarge loves to play also, but will slow down when his knees start to bother him. He is on thyroid medication, pain meds for his knees and just had dental work done on his last month. These easy-going pups are 10 yrs old, neutered, crate trained and house trained, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. They are currently in boarding in Anza/Temecula area of Riverside County and their owners daughter is doing everything she can to find new loving homes as she is unable to keep them. Please contact Michelle at dogzinneed@yahoo.com or 760-390-8973 to meet Sarge and Pudge

      Jager

      rescue
      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. This handsome big boy is Jager. Originally a neighbor’s dog, he fell in love with his best friend Stella and became part of the family. Unfortunately, Jager and Stella’s mom is losing her home at the end of this month and urgently needs a new forever home for her beloved fur children. Jager is about 4 years old and is a gentle giant. He is very smart. Listens when you tell him “no” and gets along with any dog he meets. He can be the protector, but Stella is generally the boss of the house. Jager is very afraid of fireworks and loud booms. He used to be afraid of cats, but now he loves them. He can be high energy, but not out of control. A good 30 minute walk is great for exercise. He is very bonded with Stella and must be fostered or adopted together so he does not get depressed. Stella is an extremely well-loved and affectionate sweetheart. She is her owner’s heart, protector and gives her piece of mind to sleep at night. She loves to play and wrestle and she eats EVERYTHING! Stella listens to what you tell her and knows “sit”, “down”, and gives a paw when she says hello to someone. She is cautious of new people, but as soon as she warms up to you, you can’t shake her. Stella may be a bit spoiled, but only because she deserves it! She has separation anxiety and must be re-homed with Jager. Both are house trained indoor dogs and lived as family member. The owner will sign them over and any medical care will be covered for each dog if we can find good foster home with rescue group commitment in Los Angeles, Orange County or San Diego area. Please contact mariettapla@sbcglobal.net if you can foster or are interested in adopting Jager and Stella

      Petey

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Labbe
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Baby
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Beagle / Mixed. Please contact Michelle (dogzinneed@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Petey the pup is a 5-month old puppy named after the dog from The Little Rascals. When he first came to his foster family, he was skin and bones with ribs showing. The vet thought he had been out on his own for about a week based on his malnourished state and possibly mistreated since he had an initial fear of people. From the looks of his floppy ears, he may be beagle mixed with a larger dog, possibly a lab. He has brown spot over one eye while the other is white like his movie star namesake. He has green eyes, one eye has white lashes, the other has black lashes, like the character from Star Trek. He has many brown spots, and just adorable all the way around. If you ask his foster parent, he is much more handsome than the movie star that he's named after. Petey was found as a stray when he was only about 2 months old. He loves to play with his foster dog buddies, one large dog of 70 lbs and one small dog of 15 lbs. He thinks cats are small dogs, and wants to play with them, though he backs off readily when cats protest. It seems the only thing on his mind is play, play, play. It's funny to see how he keeps himself entertained; when you call his name, he tap dances with his front paws as in the video. People have commented how hilarious Petey plays with his other foster dog cousins at the dog beach and dog parks. They are comedians! He's extremely shy of people, but very playful with other dogs. He regularly goes to the dog beach and dog parks where he runs around with other dogs. In these environments, he doesn't mind approaching people in the course of play. To help him be less shy of people, he is going consistently to places where people are around such as parks, home improvement stores, and sitting outside the library. His forever home should provide an environment to continue getting him comfortable with people. Though house trained, Petey is still a puppy discovering the world, and has puppy issues. His forever home should anticipate puppy behaviors and work with him. He is a quick learner, loves praises, and of course, he loves treats. Based on the size of his giant paws, he will grow up to be a big boy. Lots of love and his easy going nature will make him the best and most handsome dog companion you could hope for. His forever home should be a private residence with a sizable yard fo rhim to play, and his owners need to have the time to take him on walks or to the dog park/dog beach on a daily basis. As a puppy, he will need some training, and an experienced dog owner is preferable. He should also be exposed to people as often as possible. He will be great with another dog, and gets along with cats after the cat get used to his enthusiasm. Petey has full vaccines and is neutered.
