Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Diana (cdczar96@aol.com) for more information about this pet. If you have second thoughts about adopting a stray or abandoned dog/pup, please check out our "Successful Adoptions Page" and see how many dogs we have already placed into loving homes. Be sure to check out their happy endings under "Happy Tails!" ADOPTION PROCESS Before 2nd Chance Dog Rescue places a dog in his/her furever home, the potential adopter is required to fill out an Adoption Consultation Application. Once we have reviewed your application we will contact you to arrange a meet and greet and home check. 2nd Chance Dog Rescue will only adopt to families living in the Queen Creek, Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa, Tempe, San Tan Valley, and Phoenix area - as long as it is within 50 miles of our rescue (Queen Creek). If you are ready to meet one of our amazing dogs CLICK ON THIS LINK TO FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION CONSULTATION FORM Clarence came to us by way of the county shelter, where he was about to be euthanized because lack of space. Our boy is one of the lucky ones - we scooped him up and gave him his 2nd Chance. Clarence is a great dog; we think he suffers from "Brown Dog Syndrome" - similar to black dogs - he just gets passed up because he is one of many, many brown dogs out there. But we can tell you that Clarence is a special boy. Loving, extremely devoted, and a bit of a clown; he would do best as an only dog. Since he has been in rescue for a few years, we are offering the assistance of a trainer to help integrate him into a home environment for free, to his adoptive family. Note from Clarence: I still have plenty of energy to be your hiking buddy...playing in the water and taking car rides are just a few of my favorite things to do. I am neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. If you are interested in meeting me, please fill out an Adoption Consultation Application! I am so ready for a forever home!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

ADOPTION PROCESS Before 2nd Chance Dog Rescue places a dog in his/her furever home, the potential adopter is required to fill out an Adoption Consultation Application. If you are ready to meet one of our amazing dogs CLICK ON THIS LINK TO FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION CONSULTATION FORM Toola a BEAUTIFUL Catahoula mix. Her photos just don't do justice to her gorgeous markings! We had to rescue our Toola twice - once when we originally rescued her; then again, several years later, after her adopter unceremoniously dumped her at the county shelter, because she was moving and could not take Toola with her. Our adoption contract states that all of our dogs are to come back to rescue at any time an adopter can no longer care for one of our dogs - but Toola's adopter never called us. After three years in a home, our poor girl found herself scared and facing euthanasia at an overcrowded shelter. We are so glad we got her out of there. Toola is looking for a new home, and we are determined that our girl not get her heart broken again. Toola is housetrained, playful, well-mannered and sweet as can be. We are looking for a home where Toola can be the only dog. Forever Foster Homes Because Toola, who is 8 years old, is Valley Fever positive, and needs to be on medication, we would be open to having her "forever fostered." Basically, a forever foster home would be a home where the family is willing to foster one of our medical dogs (a dog that has an ongoing medical condition that requires treatment) on open-ended basis, and we will provide medical care and all basic necessities. Other dogs that would qualify for this "forever foster" situation would be: Chiffon (Valley Fever, cancer), Elsa (blind, Valley Fever), Chase(Valley Fever), Carousel (Valley Fever), Daisy Mae (Valley Fever), and Harley(cancer). If you live in Queen Creek, Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa, Tempe, San Tan Valley, and Phoenix area - as long as it is within 50 miles of our rescue (Queen Creek) and are willing to foster, forever foster, or adopt, please check out our website, fill out an application, and be hero for one of our amazing 2nd Chance Dogs today.

If you are ready to meet one of our amazing dogs CLICK ON THIS LINK TO FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION CONSULTATION FORM Elsa is an adorable teddy bear, in fact, her nickname is "Elsa Bear." Patience, kindness and open hearts will be a great match for sweet Elsa. She was abandoned and was living on her own for several months before we gave her a 2nd Chance. It is apparent that our girl was loved once before and that she wants to trust her humans again. Since being rescued, Elsa is coming out of her shell, but is still leery of strangers. Elsa would do best in a calm environment, with no kids or older kids. Our sweet girl recently went blind, and 2nd Chance Dog Rescue will pay for training lessons if the family felt it was needed. For this reason, we also feel that it would probably be best for her to be the only dog. If you would like to know more about this sweet brown teddy bear, please fill out an adoption consultation form and we will contact you.

He can play ball all day long and never get tired. Harley came to us because his former owner didn't have much time for him and kept Harley in a crate most of the time; but those days are over and Harley is enjoying life outside of a crate. Our boy has a lot of energy and would love to find a active home where his family will take him on walks and adventures! But most importantly Harley is looking for a family to love him the way he deserves. If you enjoy playing fetch that would be great, but Harley is just as happy chasing a ball around the back yard by himself. He is one boy that can keep himself entertained! To meet this adorable boy all you have to do is fill out an adoption consultation form (or foster form - our guy is available for fostering) and we will get back to you ASAP.

Bolt is both bold and bashful, and such a handsome boy, photos don't do him justice. Bolt was abandoned by his owners and found himself living on the streets, trying to survive. Lucky for him, he chose a senior citizen community to wander in and all the residents were dedicated to helping him. After several failed attempts, 2nd Chance Dog Rescue was contacted and within a week Bolt was rescued. Sadly, he was injured while on the run, he had cactus thorns stuck all over his face, he also injured his eye. He is still a little shy and needs to be kept on a leash as he is a jumper and until he feel 100% safe he may try to escape. If you are willing to open your home/heart to this sweet boy, and would like to know more about him, please fill out an adoption consultation form and someone will get back to you and answer any questions you have. Please consider giving Bolt a chance and contact us today.

If you are ready to meet one of our amazing dogs CLICK ON THIS LINK TO FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION CONSULTATION FORM Dice’s story is based on love/devotion/tragedy and heartbreak. Dice’s owner was a veteran and for the past two years Dice was his loyal companion. Even though she wasn’t certified, Dice was Joe’s service dog and went everywhere with him, she even wore the vest. Whenever Joe had nightmares, Dice would wake him up by gently kissing his cheek. Shortly before she was rescued, Dice’s owner, Joe, was gunned down in front of his home with his beloved girl just a few feet away (inside the house). Two bullets went through the wall where Dice was patiently waiting for Joe to open the door so she could help him. Sadly Dice never got the chance to help Joe and he passed away before the ambulance arrived. Neighbors tell us that Dice laid next to Joe’s body and wouldn’t leave his side. If this story isn’t tragic enough, after losing her owner, Dice also lost her home and if it wasn’t for a good friend of Joe’s and Dice, who contacted 2nd Chance, Dice would probably be sitting in the county shelter. Dice is heartbroken and confused, we are doing everything we can to ensure her that she is safe and loved. We are looking for a loving home (preferably with a veteran who will not only love and take care of Dice, but would also benefit from a loyal companion). Dice is approx 3 years old, housebroken, she is amazing with people but should go into a home with older children and no other animals.. If you are interested in meeting this very special girl please fill out an adoption application and we will contact you.
