Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Kona is Ready for Her Forever Home for the Holidays!! Our momma dog is PERFECT! Yep, no kidding! Not only was she the best mom to her babies, but she is awesome with kids, other dogs, house trained, playful, sweet, loving and did we say PERFECT? When she got sick and her babies were born in the shelter there was no time, but an amazing foster stepped up and we saved them! She is the perfect age between 1-2! Now momma Kona is ready to find her forever home!! Email dogs@labra dorsandfriends.org or fill out our online application at www.labradorsandfriends.org Kona is located in Southern California…PLEASE SHARE In the Beginning: What a difference 7 weeks makes! Everyone remembers Kona and her newborn babies from the Carson Shelter…we honestly weren't sure this little family was going to make it when we pulled them. The shelter didn't realize Kona was pregnant and then she whelped there. We pulled them because an AMAZING foster home came forward for them! It was a rough first few weeks but to see them now at almost 8 weeks old warms our heart! Momma Kona will be spayed and ready for her forever home soon. She is a sweet, loving, gentle girl who has touched all our hearts. She is great with other dogs, house trained and absolutely perfect. Her babies are just like their momma! They are all dolls and are looking for the best homes!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Forever Home Wanted: Meet Anton!! Our ADORABLE, 11 month old fella was being a goofball at our adoption event this past weekend for treats! We captured this picture and knew it would be perfect for today! Anton is a big love, playful and still a goofy puppy! Anton was pretty good on the leash, was willing to work for treats and is very eager to please. He would do best with a family who will continue his training, since he is still a puppy at heart. Anton loves to cuddle and be with his people! Email dogs@labradorsandfriends.org or fill out our online application at www.labradorsandfriends.org Anton is located in Southern California. In the Beginning: Anton was William at the Hesperia Shelter. When we saw his big, beautiful eyes we knew we had to get him out of there! This sweet, barely a year old guy, came into the shelter filthy, with colored marker all over him and what appears to be a broken tail. He was clearly trusting of the wrong people, but that won't happen to him again! Anton is an absolute love! He cannot get close enough to you! He is good with other dogs, his tail (which is now just a little crooked) never stops wagging and he just wants to sit in your lap! He appears to be house trained, rides well in the car and doesn't mind the crate. He is food and love motivated and eager to please!

Curtis came to us with a mutilated and infected tail that was causing him so much pain. What was left of his tail was amputated and then he needed entropion surgery to fix the eye lashes growing inward towards his eye ball. Those sutures are now out and he is feeling so much better! Curtis is a sweet fella once he trusts you, clearly he was not treated well prior to coming to us. Curtis appears to be good with other dogs, not to bad on the leash and pretty mellow over all. He would do best in a quieter home. Email dogs@labradorsandfriends.org or fill out our online application at www.labradorsandfriends.org Curtis is located in Southern California. Paw Up! Date!: Curtis Says Thank You!! Curtis is doing well after his tail amputation surgery. Curtis came to us from the San Bernardino City Shelter after he was found with most of his tail missing and the rest rotting away! He was in SEVERE pain, which was apparent by his behavior, but now he is on the mend and doing so much better! Curtis would love a quiet foster home to continue to recover from his ordeal and surgery. We will never know what happened to Curtis, but that i s all behind him now and we just want him to know love and no pain. Curtis appears to be house trained and is good on the leash. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Foster or Forever Home Wanted: Meet Mac!! Mac is a very special guy...he has been with us for a while getting the love, confidence and training he so needed. Mac came from the Carson Shelter, he was petrified and had zero chance of making it out, but we saw something in him and gave him a chance. Mac isn't an easy placement, he will need an experienced owner, one who understands a dog who is afraid of new people. Once Mac knows you and bonds with you he will love you forever, he has a few volunteers he adores and they feel the same about him. Mac has been working with Sadot of Elite K9 Academy and he has made so much progress, but he will still need time, patience, understanding and the right adopter. Mac is house trained, great with puppies, female dogs and dogs smaller than him, he is very playful. We know that person is out there and they will fall in love with Mac just like we did. Please help us make Mac's holiday wish come true! Email dogs@labradorsandfriends.org or fill out our online application at www.labradorsandfriends.org Mac is located in Southern California. In the Beginning: Mac is a Carson Shelter Survivor…he was scared to death at the shelter. Once we got him out he was so much better and now he is starting to decompress and realize he is safe! Mac needs to find his forever home or even a foster who will love him and give him the attention he needs. Mac is unsure of new things, but adapts quickly. He can be a little fearful of new people, but does great when he gets to know you. He rides well in the car, appears to be house and crate trained. He is good with other dogs, but we do not know about cats. Mac is also good on a leash.
