Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet beautiful and oh so sweet, Nahla! How can you resist this wonderful and kind face! Nahla is a great smaller size at only 40 pounds. She loves all people and loves kids as well, but due to her age, she would prefer to live in a quiet home with no children. She is house and crate trained, she ignores the cats in her foster home, and she can stay home alone in the house without getting into anything. She is looking for a family or individual who will love her, show her the kindness and attention she so well deserves, and who will give her a comfy, warm place to sleep. At age 9+, she may look a little grey, but don't let a little grey fur deter you from getting the best dog ever that you will get to spend lots of quality years with. Come and meet Nahla. She will be your instant best friend! General Information on the Benefits of Adopting and/or Fostering an Older Dog: If you have an active life and don't have a lot of extra time but really want a dog or you don't want to have to go through all the work of training a dog, you might want to consider the benefits of owning an older dog. Most dogs in their later years of life are a bit more settled and can usually be left home alone for several hours with access to a doggy door or even can wait to go out. They are often much better on the leash as they are not quite as strong as they once were and they are also calmer. Seniors sleep a bit more than other dogs so are not as concerned about being left alone. While they still need exercise and love playtime, you'll find that seniors need less exercise and playtime. They normally are house-trained and have good house manners. Seniors make wonderful companions as they are very loyal and loving and they somehow know you are saving their life. You just might find out they are the perfect age of dog for you. The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. For more information on the adoption donation and our adoption process, please visit our website at www.labsandmore.org and click on "Adopt." You will find our online adoption application there as well. Once you are approved to adopt, we will discuss how to meet our available dogs. Our dogs are NOT housed at our mailing address. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer organization. Thank you for reaching out to rescue a dog in need of hope!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed. Meet Patch! Patch is an owner turn-in from a family that need to relocate for work and could not take him to their new place. He has been with them since he was a puppy and they are very sad. Patch is around 7 years old. He is in a foster home where he is fostered with other dogs and some cats. He does well with other dogs and is gentle with the cats. Patch is the model foster dog, sweet, well behaved, and is friendly. This sweetheart loves to be near his humans, is house trained, and walks well on a leash. With Patch's age, he seems to prefer a more settled and quiet house. Because of this, we recommend a house with older children or no children. If you are interested in meeting this sweet boy, fill out an adoption application today. The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. This handsome six year old is Connor. Connor came to Labs and More needing some TLC after his first family poured bleach on him. We immediately moved him into a loving and experienced foster home where he has been getting the attention that he needs. His fur has grown back and despite what happened to him, he is a sweet and loving boy. Connor loves going on car rides, he may need some help getting in the car, but he is always ready to go anywhere and help you run errands. He is sweet and friendly at home, does well with the other dogs he is fostered with, and he is fine with new people coming over, including a noisy group of teenagers. Connor would be great for a family who is looking for a quiet companion, we think he would do best in a home with adults or older children because of his age and he likes to hang out and lounge around. He is crate trained and likes to occasionally hang out in one. No dog parks or dog beaches necessary for this guy, a short walk and hanging out in the yard is where he is happiest. Connor enjoys playing with his dog toys, lazing out in the sun for a bit on nice days, and getting a little attention from his people before taking a nap. He is house trained, sleeps through the night, and can stay home alone without getting into anything. He does need a strong handler for his walks, he tends to pull and react when he sees other dogs. No kitties in the home with this boy, he thinks they are fun squeaky toys that should be chased. Connor is not a fan of the big adoption events and is happy to do meets in his foster home where he can focus on you. We are excited to have Connor find his forever home, if you are the family that is the right fit for him, we are offering a special adoption donation special of $150. If you are interested in meeting this sweet boy, your first step would be to fill out an adoption application on our website. Your adoption coach can request a meet with Connor in his foster home. He can't wait to meet you and share a lifetime of love with you! The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. Posted Breed: Shepherd / Terrier / Mixed. Meet Terra! This 1-year old girl has a big heart and a lot of love to give. She has amazing eyes that are mostly brown with some light blue color in them. This cutie is house and crate trained and walks well on the leash. Terra is friendly and knows some commands. This tall and lean girl is fostered with kids and loves playing with them. She is also good with the cats in the home, and does well with other dogs, though she can be choosy about which ones she plays with. Terra would do well with a female family, with or without kids, she is quite wary of men and takes her time warming up, if at all. She would do well in a home with another dog or cat buddy to hang out, or with a family that is home more often than not. She loves her chew toys, is fairly quiet, and love to share some hugs and ear scratching. Terra is looking for a family that will be dedicated to giving her all the exercise, training, love, and attention this sweet girl deserves, while still giving her time to come out of her shell and be the happy girl she is! Interested in Terra? Fill out an application today! The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. Posted Breed: Belgian Shepherd Tervuren / Australian Shepherd / Mixed. Kansas is around one and a half years old and is being treated for a medical condition. She will not be available for adoption until the end of April after she receives the clearance from our vet. In the meantime she is making the most of her foster home. Kansas originally arrived to Labs and More pregnant and she raised kind and loving pups who have all gone off to their loving forever homes. This beauty is house and crate trained and has very nice house manners. She can be left in the house for several hours while you are away. She likes to play ball and will engage the other dogs for some playtime. Kansas has quite the prey drive and loves to hunt lizards and critters that move in the night so she should not be in a home with cats. Kansas loves to see you at the end of your work day and can hardly wait to give you a kiss or two and then to go on her nightly walk. She is affectionate and loyal to her favorite people in her life and great with new people she meets. She will make a great family dog for a moderately active dog family. She has 6 weeks of crate rest and then 6 weeks of rehab and getting strength back in her leg. She should be available for adoption mid-April. Shindy is an adorable smaller girl with beautiful chocolate brindle markings. This cutie is a mix of what looks to be quite a few breeds, Boxer, something shorter like Basset maybe, probably some Hound, whatever her mix, she is full of personality and happiness. Shindy is between 2-3 years old and only about 40lbs with short legs and big floppy ears. This sweetheart is playful and happy and would love to find her own home where she can share her love and loyalty with you. She is enjoying her foster home where she is fostered with another dog. Shindy likes her trips to Fiesta Island and walking the trails, smelling the smells, and she loves playing in the water and chasing the waves! She would prefer a family who will give her hugs everyday! She is wonderful with other dogs and likes to engage in a little playtime every now and then. She is house and crate trained. This is a special girl with a cute personality that will make you smile and she quickly won over our volunteers and is one of our favorites! When walking out on the town with his foster mom he did not seem phased by all the hustle and bustle, he enjoyed meeting new dogs and people alike. This boy knows 'sit', 'down', and 'shake'. He loves his treats (especially hot dogs), and he takes them very gently. Polo rides well in the car, he has shown such nice house manners that he can stay home uncrated, and he is house trained.
