Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet beautiful and oh so sweet, Nahla! How can you resist this wonderful and kind face! Nahla is a great smaller size at only 40 pounds. She loves all people and loves kids as well, but due to her age, she would prefer to live in a quiet home with no children. She is house and crate trained, she ignores the cats in her foster home, and she can stay home alone in the house without getting into anything. She is looking for a family or individual who will love her, show her the kindness and attention she so well deserves, and who will give her a comfy, warm place to sleep. At age 9+, she may look a little grey, but don't let a little grey fur deter you from getting the best dog ever that you will get to spend lots of quality years with. Come and meet Nahla. She will be your instant best friend! General Information on the Benefits of Adopting and/or Fostering an Older Dog: If you have an active life and don't have a lot of extra time but really want a dog or you don't want to have to go through all the work of training a dog, you might want to consider the benefits of owning an older dog. Most dogs in their later years of life are a bit more settled and can usually be left home alone for several hours with access to a doggy door or even can wait to go out. They are often much better on the leash as they are not quite as strong as they once were and they are also calmer. Seniors sleep a bit more than other dogs so are not as concerned about being left alone. While they still need exercise and love playtime, you'll find that seniors need less exercise and playtime. They normally are house-trained and have good house manners. Seniors make wonderful companions as they are very loyal and loving and they somehow know you are saving their life. You just might find out they are the perfect age of dog for you. The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. For more information on the adoption donation and our adoption process, please visit our website at www.labsandmore.org and click on "Adopt." You will find our online adoption application there as well. Once you are approved to adopt, we will discuss how to meet our available dogs. Our dogs are NOT housed at our mailing address. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer organization. Thank you for reaching out to rescue a dog in need of hope!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet Patch! Patch is an owner turn-in from a family that need to relocate for work and could not take him to their new place. He has been with them since he was a puppy and they are sad. Patch is in a foster home now and he does not mind the cats in the house, he is very gentle around them. Patch is the model foster dog, sweet, well behaved, and gets along with other dogs. This sweetheart loves to be near his humans, he is house trained, and walks well on a leash. With Patch's age, he seems to prefer a more settled and quiet house. Because of this, we recommend a house with older children or no children. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. This boy was left behind in the shelter in his best days of life. His family said he was 10 but he acts much younger and probably more like 8. He still runs and loves to go on his walks. He plays with the other dogs and loves to scour the yard for smells and lizards. He is house trained and crate trained and knows his commands. Max is taller and thinly built with the softest fur you will ever feel on a dog. He has those handsome white feet and eyes that stare into your heart. He is so easy to have in your home and gives more love than you ever thought possible. He has attached himself to the teenager in the foster home and loves to go hang out in her room for a nap. Max even though he is 10 can still figure out how to jump a fence if left alone in a yard. He is great left in the home or in a crate when you leave. Max is making sure he is not going to get left behind again so we don't want him left alone in a yard where he feels abandoned. He loves to go on car rides and will take a nap the whole way. If you are a family dedicated to your Dog then you deserve a dog like Maximus! Fill out an adoption application today and come meet this sweet boy, he is waiting for you! When walking out on the town with his foster mom he did not seem phased by all the hustle and bustle, he enjoyed meeting new dogs and people alike. This boy knows 'sit', 'down', and 'shake'. He loves his treats (especially hot dogs), and he takes them very gently. Polo rides well in the car, he has shown such nice house manners that he can stay home uncrated, and he is house trained. Polo has claimed his spot at the foot of the bed in his foster home and sleeps peacefully through the night. He is a sweet, mellow boy who is happy to do whatever it is you are doing.
