Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet Duke! He is a great dog and will make a great companion dog for you! He gets along well with other dogs, but prefers calmer dogs. His current family really loves him, but has a small dog who is not so happy with Duke and they are not getting along. Duke is a very obedient dog who is house-trained and a really sweet and loyal boy to his humans. He would love a home where he is the center of attention and get to go on walks, hikes, and to the dog park occasionally. His family is heartbroken about having to give him up, so he needs a really special family who will give him all of the attention and love he deserves! Come and meet Duke! We think that Duke is mostly Lab, but probably has a little Pit in him. He has beautiful shiny black/brown/grey fur and is a great boy! This dog is Courtesy Listed in an effort to help the organization sponsoring the dog find them a new forever home. Please understand this dog is not the property of Labs and More Rescue and that we are only courtesy listing this dog. Labs and More Rescue accepts no responsibility for the information provided concerning this dog. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: San Diego, CA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Rhodesian Ridgeback / Mixed. Miss Breeze recently weaned her beautiful pups, and she is ready to find a home of her own. This sweetheart will need a family that can take the time to help her feel safe and secure and let her blossom into the happy dog we know she is. Breeze is sweet and loving, but it takes her time to trust new people. She would like an understanding family that is willing to go slow with her as she gains her confidence. Breeze has been working on this in her foster home and has made great strides already. This sweet girl is working on her house training in her foster home, and she almost has it 100% down. She alerts you when she needs to go out, but she hasn't quite learned to hold it if you take a little longer to let her out - she's working on it, though! She walks well with some correction since she likes to weave sometimes, but she is not a puller. Positive reinforcement training would be beneficial for Breeze since it will help her bond with you, show off her smarts, and build her confidence. This girl has been through so much in her short life, and she deserves to be in a loving and patient home for the rest of her life. If you think you are the perfect fit for Breeze, apply to adopt today - you'll be giving this girl a chance at being a normal dog. The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. For more information on the adoption donation and our adoption process, please visit our website at www.labsandmore.org and click on "Adopt." You will find our online adoption application there as well. Once you are approved to adopt, we will discuss how to meet our available dogs. Our dogs are NOT housed at our mailing address. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer organization. Thank you for reaching out to rescue a dog in need of hope!

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet Patch! Patch is an owner turn-in from a family that need to relocate for work and could not take him to their new place. He has been with them since he was a puppy and they are sad. Patch is in a foster home now and he does not mind the cats in the house, he is very gentle around them. Patch is the model foster dog, sweet, well behaved, and gets along with other dogs. This sweetheart loves to be near his humans, he is house trained, and walks well on a leash. With Patch's age, he seems to prefer a more settled and quiet house. Because of this, we recommend a house with older children or no children. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Josie! She is a giant goofball that explodes with happy energy. Her tail wags non-stop and she'll make you laugh all day. She enjoys helping with ranch chores, going for car rides and being with her people. Josie arrived at Labs and More very pregnant and was having some complications. Our amazing vets sprung to action to perform a much needed C-section to deliver her beautiful pups and give Josie the care she needed. Josie moved into a foster home where she has taken wonderful care of her pups. This happy girl is ready to be on her own, in her own home with her own family where she will be loved and cared for, forever. She is a very sweet and loving girl that will curl up in your lap and share her love with you. Her favorite part of the day is jumping into the golf cart with her foster mom to tend to the horses, goats and llamas. She would make a great ranch dog! This lovely is house trained and she walks well on a leash with some correction, she does prefer to be your one and only in the house. She does not enjoy dog parks or dog beaches, but does enjoy adventures with you on her own. No kitties for this sweet girl either, she thinks they are fun to chase. Josie deserves a home where she is not just tied up and left alone all day - she needs to be included in the family activities and can't wait to be a part of your family. She can stay home alone uncrated and does not get into anything. Think you might be a good match for Josie? Apply to adopt today! Special Autumn Adoption Donation - ask us for details. When walking out on the town with his foster mom he did not seem phased by all the hustle and bustle, he enjoyed meeting new dogs and people alike. Polo does well with other dogs but is a little too rough to live with small dogs. He walks well on a leash staying right next to you, unless there is an enticing smell, but without pulling much. This boy knows 'sit', 'down', and 'shake'. He loves his treats (especially hot dogs), and he takes them very gently. Polo rides well in the car, he has shown such nice house manners that he can stay home uncrated, and he is house trained. Polo has claimed his spot at the foot of the bed in his foster home and sleeps peacefully through the night. He is a sweet, mellow boy who is happy to do whatever it is you are doing. Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed. Meet Klondike! This sweetheart has had a tough beginning. He was in some type of sad situation where he was not treated well and he has quite a few small, but visible, scars. Even though his physical wounds have healed, Klondike needs a family willing to put in the time to help heal his invisible wounds and help him learn that life is not about being worried, it is about being loved. He has already become a volunteer favorite with his kind eyes and sweet disposition. Klondike moved into his foster home recently and is taking it easy and just enjoying the love and attention. He is fostered with another dog and he is fine with her around. He is mellow and likes to hang out. Klondike will flinch or drop his head a little when he is pet on his head, it is heartbreaking to watch, but he will lean into you once he is comfortable to get more pets. He definitely is in store for a lot of love and affection, and he definitely deserves it. Klondike absolutely loves going for rides the car! If you roll down all the windows and go for a drive, he gets visibly happy and wants to try and sit up front with you. He is also fascinated with squeaky toys! He walks pretty well on a leash, pulling occasionally, but he corrects very easily, he is also house trained. Klondike does not like to be crated, he will go in nicely and hang out, but once you leave he will quietly break out and head for the couch to nap. We think this boy has probably been locked up enough and he should have free rein of the house (he can also open baby gates). Klondike would do better with a more mellow family, and if he has a dog friend, a nicer, more mellow one will help him acclimate and flourish in his new home. A positive routine would do this boy wonders, and he is looking for that special family who will be patient with him as he learns to get comfortable and come out of his shell. He is already very sweet and loving, so it will only get better! If you think you can provide the right home for him apply to adopt today, and thank you for considering a rescue dog! The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet beautiful and oh so sweet, Nahla! How can you resist this wonderful and kind face! Nahla is a great smaller size at only 40 pounds. She loves all people and loves kids as well, but due to her age, she would prefer to live in a quiet home with no children. She is house and crate trained, she ignores the cats in her foster home, and she can stay home alone in the house without getting into anything. She is looking for a family or individual who will love her, show her the kindness and attention she so well deserves, and who will give her a comfy, warm place to sleep. At age 9+, she may look a little grey, but don't let a little grey fur deter you from getting the best dog ever that you will get to spend lots of quality years with. Come and meet Nahla. She will be your instant best friend! General Information on the Benefits of Adopting and/or Fostering an Older Dog: If you have an active life and don't have a lot of extra time but really want a dog or you don't want to have to go through all the work of training a dog, you might want to consider the benefits of owning an older dog. Most dogs in their later years of life are a bit more settled and can usually be left home alone for several hours with access to a doggy door or even can wait to go out. They are often much better on the leash as they are not quite as strong as they once were and they are also calmer. Seniors sleep a bit more than other dogs so are not as concerned about being left alone. While they still need exercise and love playtime, you'll find that seniors need less exercise and playtime. They normally are house-trained and have good house manners. Seniors make wonderful companions as they are very loyal and loving and they somehow know you are saving their life. You just might find out they are the perfect age of dog for you. The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping.
