Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet Duke! He is a great dog and will make a great companion dog for you! He gets along well with other dogs, but prefers calmer dogs. His current family really loves him, but has a small dog who is not so happy with Duke and they are not getting along. Duke is a very obedient dog who is house-trained and a really sweet and loyal boy to his humans. He would love a home where he is the center of attention and get to go on walks, hikes, and to the dog park occasionally. His family is heartbroken about having to give him up, so he needs a really special family who will give him all of the attention and love he deserves! Come and meet Duke! We think that Duke is mostly Lab, but probably has a little Pit in him. He has beautiful shiny black/brown/grey fur and is a great boy! This dog is Courtesy Listed in an effort to help the organization sponsoring the dog find them a new forever home. Please understand this dog is not the property of Labs and More Rescue and that we are only courtesy listing this dog. Labs and More Rescue accepts no responsibility for the information provided concerning this dog. For more information, please contact Greg at gpelton@bppd.com or call 714-920-1068, You will love this boy!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Golden Retriever-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Golden Retriever / Mixed. This sweetheart is Connor. Connor is looking for a family that is ready to adopt a dog who is older, calm, and loving. This sweet boy settled in nicely to his foster home. He is fostered with a few other dogs and does well with them. This sweet boy is house trained, and can stay home alone without getting into anything. Connor is friendly to people and is sweet when he meets them. This mild-mannered sweetheart has been around groups of teenagers and has done well with the noise and large group. Connor should be in a home with a secure yard, he likes to tests the gates to see if they will open. He enjoys his crate and will often sleep in it, he also sleeps quietly through the night on his dog bed. His foster family says that he has an endearing personality and quirks that match his adorable face! This boy enjoys his chew toys and will watch the other dogs when they play. Connor loves to head out on walks with you, he also rides well in the car and likes to stick his head out the window. Because of his age and settled nature, we think he would do best in a home with older or no children, he prefers a quiet, settled household. Connor does take thyroid medication that he will need to continue to take. This boy is loving, sweet, and gentle and deserves a happy and loving home where he can share his love with you for the rest of his life. If you are ready for the exciting adventure of adopting a dog and are interested in meeting Connor, your first step is to fill out an adoption application on our website. Your dog adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. Posted Breed: Belgian Shepherd Tervuren / Australian Shepherd / Mixed. Kansas is around 2 years old and originally arrived to Labs and More pregnant. She raised kind and loving pups who have all gone off to their loving forever homes. This beauty is house and crate trained and has very nice house manners. She can be left in the house for several hours while you are away. She likes to play ball and will engage the other dogs for some playtime. Kansas has quite the prey drive and loves to hunt lizards and critters that move in the night, so she should not be in a home without cats or other small animals. Kansas loves to see you at the end of your work day and can hardly wait to give you a kiss or two while she waits to go on her nightly walk. She is affectionate and loyal to her favorite people in her life and great with new people she meets. She will make a great family dog for a moderately active dog family. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Meet Jackie! This beautiful girl came to Labs and More with her two puppies. It was obvious to us that Jackie went without to care for her two pups. Now that she has weaned them and finished her motherly duties, she is loving the warm bed and full food bowl as she works to put on some healthy weight. Jackie is about 5-6 years old and looks to be a German Shepherd mix. She was used as a breeding dog until she was no longer useful to them. She is ready for some quiet and rest. Jackie is friendly and affectionate, loves to snuggle, and does well with other dogs of any size. She is a playful and happy girl, and is house trained. Jackie heads to work with her foster mom where she gets in plenty of love and pets from others in the office. This beauty has inoperable hip dysplasia with some arthritis and walks with a limp. She is not up for long walks but does enjoy a couple of short walks, especially when she is ready to do her business! She prefers to hang out on her soft bed and just be near you. She takes medication for pain and inflammation. With her manageable pain, we suggest older or no kids for her, we would like to minimize the chance of her hurting more by being too active or getting bumped. She is calm, gentle, extra sweet, and can stay home uncrated without getting into anything. Jackie would love a forever family that will love her unconditionally and give her all the attention she deserves. But no kitties for this sweetie, she thinks they are far too fun to chase. If you would like to give this sweet girl a second chance at happiness, apply to adopt online today on our website. The adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. I was very uncertain of this new place, so I am feeling a bit shy. I have been through a lot and I am still learning to trust. My foster family is helping me come out of my shell and show everyone that I am actually very sweet and playful. I like other dogs, treats, and quiet, gentle people. I need someone who is experienced and patient to show me that the world is not such a scary place. If you are interested in this dog please contact sandy@nwtlb.org or see www.nwtlb.org. Breed: Collie-Labrador Retriever Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Collie / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. This lovely one-year old lady is Rowan. Labs & More rescued Rowan after she was hit by a car and abandoned on the street for weeks. After an emergency surgery to repair her bilateral pelvic fractures, she spent several months healing and relearning how to be a happy and carefree puppy again - and she came back full force. Rowan is one of the happiest, cuddliest, silliest dogs you'll meet! Not only did she heal completely and can walk normally, she can also run (short distances), jump and play with no problem! However, she'd like you to note that she'd prefer to be a cuddle bug than a running buddy. Her favorite place is on your lap or snuggled up in bed with you - preferably while giving you unlimited hand kisses. She can be left uncrated while you're away, although she's definitely not opposed to a crate. She often goes into her crate willingly. She loves going for walks to check out the neighborhood and chase squirrels, but she is not a dog park kind of dog. Despite her small frame, this little girl likes to be top dog. She gets along with her foster sibling, but would prefer to be an only dog. Unfortunately, Rowan is very frightened by men and small children, so she needs an all-female household or a very, very patient boyfriend/husband. It should also be noted that she has some food allergies and therefore requires special food. It's not a big deal, but is worth mentioning. Her favorite thing in the world is snuggling up with you to get pets or chewing on a tennis ball. Let your adoption coach know if you'd like to meet this spunky and sweet floof! If you are ready for the rewarding experience of adding to your family by adopting a dog, and you are interested in meeting Rowan, your first step is to fill out an adoption application on our website. Your adoption includes the altering of the dog, current vaccinations, and microchipping. Borris is a super sweet 9-year old Boxer who was brought to a shelter with wounds to one of his paws. Labs and More sprang into action to make sure he got the care he needed, and he is all healed up and ready for his forever family. He absolutely adores his people and getting all your attention.
