Meet Goliath! Although his age in years is 9, his "Spirit Age" is so much younger. Goliath, sadly, was surrendered by his owners when they moved and were unable to take him. He is very shy with strangers at first, but warms up quickly, especially when offered belly rubs! Goliath prefers to be around an older more mature crowd, so a family without young children is necessary. He has spent most of his life outside, and is now working on adjusting to being an inside dog. He has shown his foster family that his most treasured discovery is his inside soft doggie bed! Such a simple discovery with life changing results. Goliath came to GPMR with ear and eye infections, both of which have been treated. He did test positive for heartworms, which is has not shown to be severe and can be treated with monthly heart worm prevention. He is also on supplements for arthritis, which help him act his "Spirit Age". Goliath's trademark, and funniest trait, is his super long tongue which tends to hang out on the floor when he is laying down. This gentle giant would be a great addition to the right family so get your applications in today! Goliath is being fostered in Tulsa, OK. Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!

More About Mastiff Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Meet Amber! She came to us via another rescue when her owner passed away. Amber was raised with another dog and kids and we'd love to place her with a family who has both. She is 2 years old and weighs 125 lbs. She's a little on the thin side and her ideal weight would be about 135 lbs. She does well with medium and large size dogs, and a home without small dogs or cats would good for Amber. Amber came to us with fleas and intestinal parasites, both which have been treated, and she also tested positive for heartworms. She has started heartworm treatment and will be ready for adoption in December. She knows some basic commands but does need some additional help on how to walk on a leash without pullling too much. :) This girl is about as sweet as they come! Meet Camille! She is a super sweet girl who came to GPMR when her owner could no longer keep her. Camille is 3 years old.. She is currently being fostered wtih another Mastiff and they do well together. She also does great with cats. Since we don't know Camille's history, a home with older kids or just adults would probably be best. Camille is crate trained, and housebroken. Her fosters are working on training and she knows how to sit on command and most of the time shake. She loves the back yard. A house with a fenced in backyard would be best for her and probably with a privacy fence as she will bark at other dogs and people she sees on the other side. She loves to lay down in the grass and run around. While Camille has done great with the Mastiff at her foster home, she does have issues meeting new dogs on leash so we're getting her some training to help with that. Her adopters will need to be willing to continue the training we've started so she can be the best Mastiff she can be! Save a Mastiff...Adopt, Foster, Volunteer!

Welcome back Kimmy! Kimmy is estimated to be almost 7 years old. She came into GPMR in 2013 emaciated and heartworm positive. We got her spayed, treated her heartworms and got her to a healthy weight by the time she was adopted. Kimmy was recently returned to GPMR due to medical issues she was having. She was diagnosed with Glaucoma in her left eye last year. Unfortunately the disease progressed so much that the eye had to be removed. Her right eye is normal but she does need daily drops to keep it healthy. But that doesn't slow Kimmy down! She is very sweet and wants a lot of love and attention. Kimmy knows how to walk on a leash and is crate trained. She would do OK with a submissive male dog around the same size but she really prefers to have all of the attention to herself. She is not recommended for homes with small dogs or cats. Her weight is currently a little too healthy so she's now on a diet. :) Kimmy is part of our "Fall in Love" adoption special and her fee is waived! She craves attention and loves spending time with her people and her foster Mastiff brother. She does OK with cats but will chase cats that run away from her. She is great with kids of all ages. Meet Titan! This guy’s personality is as big as he is (and that’s BIG). Titan was rescued from a shelter. He is food and treat motivated so it should be pretty easy to teach this spunky 6 year old a few new tricks. He knows the basics and is cooperative as long as there’s something in it for him. Titan plays well with other dogs, big and small. He has the typical mastiff tempo and temperament, including a little stubborn streak when it’s time to be crated, he responds well to bribery for now. Titan is house trained and hasn't exhibited any destructive behavior at all. His bark to let strangers know he is present is just as intimidating as his massive size, but the truth is, this teddy bear really just enjoys long walks and lazy day naps with his current foster family. UPDATE 5/15/16: Check out that face! Dandelion is doing well and continues to gain much needed weight. As you can by the latest pictures her spirit has also dramatically improved. She will never again walk around with her head hung low! She completed her heartworm treatment and once we get the OK from the vet, she will be spayed and have corrective surgery on her eyelids. Meet Dandelion, the newest recipient of our Cowboy Fund for the dogs in most need of medical care. Dandelion, aka Dani, was transferred to GPMR from another rescue where she was rescued with close to 200 animals from a hoarding situation. Dani is in very rough shape. She is one of the worst starvation cases we've seen, at just 73 lbs she has a lot of weight to gain. She had intestinal parasites, fleas, large patches of hairloss, eye infections. She also has a severe case of heartworms, causing fluid in her lungs and an enlarged heart. Dani has a long way to go and the vet has given her a guarded prognosis. Once she is healthier, she will need a cardiac ultrasound to assess the damage to her heart from the heartworms. Please consider a donation towards her care! Dani is being fostered in Mustang, OK. It's pretty clear she wasn't well cared for. Izzy is about as sweet as they come and even though her expenses will far exceed any adoption fee, we couldn't leave her to die in a shelter. He had severe skin infections and after doing Xrays we learned he has bad arthritis in his spine. He was pretty painful when he came in but after being on medications and supplements, Goose is feeling a lot better and enjoys trotting around outside and jumping up for kisses! He is a healthy weight and enjoying his life living as an inside member of the family. Goose is good with other dogs but not with cats.
