Posted Breed: Mastiff / Mixed. COURTESY POST: Lucky is an approximately 3 year-old mastiff mix rescued by our Badass friends at Sweet Onion Animal Protection Society - SOAPS in Georgia. He's a big boy at around 80 pounds, but that only means that he has move love to give to a family. Lucky loves the water, going for car rides, and he'll sit for treats and does well on leash. He's an energetic dude who's always been nice with o ther dogs and people but who'd do best in a home without small children or pets due to his size and enthusiasm. He's been waiting patiently for the right home for a while and is feeling lucky now! This is a courtesy post, meaning that Lucky is not currently a Badass, but he'll gladly come North for the right home. If you are interested, please contact thyratony@bellsouth.net or 912-585-2000.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

When our rescue team met her, we knew it was time to remove them #Chains and bail a sister out. Carole is very sweet with humans and has done great adjusting to New York City living. She prefers to spend time with humans over dogs, and is working on her leash manners around other canines. Carole is around 50 lbs, she loves the outdoors and has lots of energy! Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Beans has been in a foster home for almost 365 days. Is 2017 the year she finds her forever home? We still haven't given up on her. The good news is that during this time, Beans has learned so much from the time she was found as a stray right before a huge snowstorm on the streets of Newark. She now has great leash manners, is completely crate trained and housebroken, but she still can't control her love (she has so much of it to give-sorry!) Her ideal forever home is with so meone that is active but also appreciates the mid afternoon nap, someone that that is used to a 45 pound pup that thinks she is a lap dog, and someone that doesn't have other animals. While Beans has come a long way, she can still be unpredictable with other animals so we think it is best if she is your one and only. We promise Beans can offer you the love of 10 dogs! Beans is about 3-4 years old, 45 pounds, spayed, UTD on vaccinations and in perfect health. Her foster home is in Brooklyn. If you would like to set up a meeting or have any questions please email erica@mooshoes.com. This is a COURTESY POST (i.e., this is not a Badass dog), so please contact Erica directly.

Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Mixed. The man, the legend..the puppy. Meet Oliver Sacks, named after one of our Badass donors to honor their favorite scientist and author, Oliver is ready to write a new chapter in his book right here in Brooklyn. He is a Great Pyrenees mix who weighs about 30 lbs and is approximately three months old. Like his namesake, Oliver is very curious and has an adventurous spirit. He is very smart for his age, and been doing great with puppy training and already knows a handful of trick s. Oliver is very playful and gets along great with other dogs, cats, and loves up on every human he meets. This brilliant pup is a small fluffball now, but we expect him to be quite large when he is full-grown. He is very sweet-natured and will be the perfect companion to anyone looking to add a regal puppy to their family. To foster or adopt, please visit bit.ly/BadassApp.

Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed. Remember the Fantastic Beast litter of pups we found in a ditch on the side of the highway in rural Texas? Well, we have some Badass magical news to share today! We found this mysterious creature at a local shelter who we believe is their fifth littermate. He has the same mannerisms and fantastical features as his siblings who have all gone on to be adopted in Brooklyn. Meet available Bowtruckle, nicknamed Bowie. Bowie is deaf, but that doesn't stop him from being the life of the party! This boy is always goofing off with his foster siblings, is super sweet with humans, and loves to kiss all up on everyone. We are so excited to bring this magical beast to Brooklyn after the holidays! To foster or adopt, please visit badassbk.com.

Posted Breed: Husky / Mixed. Maggie Gyllenhaal, nicknamed 'Maggie Blue Eyes' because of her striking beauty, is a resilient, loving husky mix that is looking for her forever home. She had a pretty rough start to life, spending about 8 years locked in a basement with her sibling Dixie Carter (adopted!). Because of her past experience, we knew that we had to be a little more patient with Maggie while she was adjusted to life post-rescue, and this lucky girl got the TLC she needed at Eva's Play Pups, learning how to interact with dogs and socialize with humans. Over time, Maggie has learned to love again and has flourished at camp - she loves to hike and explore, and has even become quite the flirt with the macho, big and strong male dogs that she spends her days playing with. Over the past year, she has transformed, and has become a happy, confident, and calm girl who is ready to settle down with a forever family. Maggie will need to find an adopter that will be patient with her and understand that it'll take some time and love for her to warm up and get comfortable, but we want to give this girl a second chance to spend the rest of her days knowing the love of a family. She deserves nothing less of a Badass happy ending! To foster or adopt, please visit bit.ly/BadassApp.

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. COURTESY POST: Sweet Veda is a wonderful girl, everything that most people would look for in a dog. She is an American Pit mix who loves to play fetch, loves to snuggle, is friendly and great on walks. She was rescued by some nice folks in Connecticut who are looking for the family that will love her forever. They will be rewarded with a great dog in return. Veda is fantastic with kids and adults alike. The only hiccup is that she's not great with small dogs or cats, so she's just better off in a single-dog home.. She's 4 years old, spayed, up to date on her shots, and healthy. This is a COURTESY POST (i.e., this is not a Badass dog), so please contact Veda's private rescuers directly at adoptveda@gmail.com if you are interested!

Breed: German Shepherd Dog-Siberian Husky Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Brooklyn, NY
Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. COURTESY POST: Boss is a 7 year old Siberian Husky/German Shepherd mix but you would never guess he was a day over 2 with his rambunctious disposition and supersoft coat. Boss is a snuggle bug and especially enjoys getting his belly and ears scratched and napping in bed with his humans. Other hobbies include playing fetch, chasing squirrels, and relaxing with a nice rawhide chew. He attended basic obedience training and knows sit, down, wait, and drop it. He has been a city dog his whole life but loves any chance to play in the country. Boss has been in a loving home since he was a puppy but is in need of a new home because his family added a baby to the pack, and Boss has displayed some aggressive behavior. He is a marshmallow with adults and despite his problems with children in the home, he simply ignores them when passing them on walks. Boss needs a home without any young children and needs someone who has experience with large strong-willed breeds, preferably Huskies. He also needs someone who has the strength and energy to meet his need for 45-60 min/day of structured walks (and/or the finances to send him to doggy daycare). He's attended doggy daycare and boarding, and is well socialized in that environment, though he occasionally growls when encountering other dogs while leashed or in dog parks. He could be in a home with another dog if the chemistry is good, particularly if the other dog is submissive. He is not off-leash trained so would do best in a fenced environment in case of a home with outside space. Boss is a hilarious happy boy and will be a loving companion and devoted protector for the right human family. This is a COURTESY POST (i.e., this is not a Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue dog). If you can provide a safe and structured home for Boss and are interested in adopting, please email adoptboss@gmail.com for more information and to set up a meeting.
