Posted Breed: Mastiff / Mixed (medium coat). Hello my name is Chunky! I am a hunk of love when it comes to my personality. I am a year young, full of energy and spunk, but not too hyper to listen. I thrive with a leader, and do well with those that can teach me the do’s and don’ts of society. I came to Kate’s rescue when I was very young, about 8 weeks of age. My previous owners had dumped me in a field and left me for dead! I had a terrible skin condition that nearly killed me, and made me less than appealing in appearance. But Kate’s found me and took me in. The rescue director personally nursed me back to health in her home and I grew like a weed! I love her dearly, but I dream of the day I find a couch of my own with a family I do not have to share with other foster siblings. I have been looking for a year for my family, with no such luck. I am a handsome boy, can’t you tell?! I weight over 70 pounds with a stocky body that just adds to my appeal. I am fostered in a home with other dogs of all sizes, and even cats. For the last year I have been fine with them but recently my behaviors have changed. Due to this I would do better in a home with no cats, or smaller dogs, and only big dogs like me. I would love to have a fur sibling close to my size and age to play with. A calmer male or even better a female would be ideal. I love calmer kids, given I have been in foster so long I am not familiar with anything outside of my foster home and scare very easily. Older children of 7 and up that understand I might get scared and bark are recommended, if any at all. I do great with them, just might scare them if they scare me. I am potty trained, I know better than to go in the house. I love to sleep in the bed if you let me, and cuddle all night long. I love to go for walks, and I walk perfectly on a leash. I am a bit timid in new places alone, but with a furry companion or a human to let me know it is ok I do just fine. I behave very well in the car, but do not like visiting new areas currently. Though once I am used to traveling and learn it is safe that could change. I am neutered, up to date on all my vaccinations and microchiped. My ideal human would be a female, I am a bit timid with men and quick movements. I am used to my fosters home and routines so anything new makes me very unsure. I am not a biter when I am scared, I bark and try to run away, but if cornered and forced to confront something scary I might bite. I need a human that will be my service human, to help my anxiety and teach me the world outside of my foster home bubble is not as scary as it seems. My human must have patience with me. Yelling scares me, and if you scare me I do not want to come to you. So lots of soft calm tones and hugging to help me feel comfortable is needed. I would make an amazing companion animal for a woman living on her own. I am being babysat on a farm, and it is too much for me out here. So city living might be best where I cannot see through my fence at the scary world. Wont you please help me find my forever home? If you think I might fit your family please contact this page, or Kate’s Rescue for Animals directly and be sure to tell them Chunky sent you!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (long coat). Adoption Fee: 200. Hello world! I am Jessica. I was previously known to the rescue world as “Baby Jessica” when I was first found just over a year ago. I was adopted but my new family could not give me the care that I require so I am back in the rescue world looking for “the one”. I have a condition where the hip joints in my back legs are missing, so my rear leg mobility is a bit “stiff”. I am a happy go lucky girl; the handicap as others call it does not slow me down one bit! I am able to run and play with big and small dogs, at my foster moms home I had 3 bigger playmates and a few smaller ones too I did magnificent with them all. I don’t like to see my stiff legs as a handicap; I have just as much love to give as the next dog, just need a breather here and there. The vet says currently there is nothing they can, or need to do for my “condition”. As I mature and get older a cart might be needed to help with my old bones, but that’s a long ways away! I am barely a year young and got the energy to prove it. I need a loving family that understands my breed’s ways, and that can keep up with my puppy energy and teach me right from wrong. I am eager to please, but my attention span is rather small so you may have to bribe me with a few treats! I am spayed, up to date, and microchiped. I do good with dogs of all sizes, cats and kids. Though between you and me I could knock the tiny ones over and they might hurt me hanging on my back end so older children are best. Please help me find my forever place! If you are interested in me send an email to katesrescue.org with the header “Jessica” and a rep will contact you with plenty of questions to make sure you are right for me.

Posted Breed: Whippet / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150. Meet Bo. This handsome fella is suspected to be a Whippet mix; his age is unknown to us. At first Bo was very timid, but with some TLC his foster has him out of his shell and ready for his forever place! Bo is very loving and affectionate. He sulks when he gets into trouble or isn't allowed to follow you everywhere. He does get a bit anxious riding in the car. Bo can be a little clumsy and unaware of personal space. He loves to be in contact all the time. Bo does not bite strangers but he will bark at them, especially visitors. Bo knows sit, down, and paw but sometimes he just won't do it unless motivated. Bo will also go to his bed when told. When taken outside if you tell him to go potty he usually runs around and finds a spot right away. Bo loves to play with dogs of all sizes and sometimes cats and kittens even though they want nothing to do with him. Bo's biggest issue is his love to bark at noises. Right now the automated garage and door bells are the main sounds he just can't resist barking at so he would be a perfect watch dog! His adoption fee is 150 and includes his neuter, microchip, shots up to date of adoption, a month of pet insurance and a wellness check at our vet within 72hours. If you are interested in this darling please download the application found on katesrescue.org and save it as a word document. Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150. Hi my name is mouse. I don't really know my back story too much, just that when I wasn't with Kate's Rescue I was alone and hungry. Now I have fattened up and love to run around a play. I do growl a bit at my foster siblings where they try to eat out of the food bowel I am eating from, but my foster mom always corrects me. I've never been mean to them, but come on I don't know how long this good life and all the food I want is going to last! I am crate trained and for the most part potty trained, but if you don't set up a routine for me I may have an accident. I have lots of energy and my foster mom says I'm ADHD...I don't know what that means...but......oh look a squirrel!!! Anyways I hope to one day find my forever family. Could that be you? If you think I could be a part of your wonderful family let the people with Kate's Rescue know so I can meet you and give you lots of kisses if you'll let me My adoption fee includes my spay, microchip, shots up to date of adoption, a month of pet insurance and a wellness check within 72 hours at our vet. If you are interested in knowing more about me please complete the adoption application located on katesrescue.org by downloading and email the completed form to happydance@katesrescue.org with "mouse" as the header.

Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Husky / Mixed (short coat). I am a sweet, relaxed, fun loving girl that would love to be a member of a fun family. My 10 babies found amazing homes through Kate's Rescue and now it's my turn! My favorite hobbies include; playing with our furry creatures, playing with toys, laying around, running around, eating, and napping, being outdoors. I've learned all those things humans like such as sit, stay, come blah blah blah. I have lived with dogs of all sizes and ages and get along great with all of them. I don't really care for cats. I enjoy the great outdoors and often go fishing and hiking with my foster mom. Riding in the car makes me sleepy but I still ride shotgun cus I don't want to miss a thing. I really enjoy jumping over fences so I would love a home with open area to safely run, a covered area or supervision when I am outside; I am quite the escape artist. I would love an active family that will give me the exercise and attention I need. I'm very easy going and very well house trained, send me your app if you think you could be good adoptive parents and I will consider all of my options.
