Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Adam (adam@bwar.org) for more information about this pet. Dillinger, a male cattle dog mix, was born about August 2010. He is very smart. He loves car rides and will wait patiently while you run errands. He loves to play with toys, chase a ball, tug a rope or clean out a stuffed Kong. He is house-trained and plays well with other dogs. He likes jogs and hikes, but would do best in a quiet home without children or cats. He is currently in a foster home with a staff member, so call the adoption center if you would like more info or to meet handsome Dillinger. All Brother Wolf animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations before adoption (if species appropriate). Application and counseling is required prior to all adoptions. Individuals interested in adopting a puppy are STRONGLY encouraged to download and read this FREE ebook. Even if you've raised puppies in the past, this is an invaluable resource to help make your new addition successful! Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Beagle / Mixed. Please contact Rose Mary (rosebudsantori@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Rocky is quite the character and expresses himself with the most comical noises. He is very much a buddy and loves to sit next to you on the couch; of course, he's short, so he needs a hoist up or stairs. Otherwise, even though he is a bit stocky, he gets around just fine. I call him my little tottlebot, bug-eyed boy. He defends the yard with his snorts and beagle bellows. He and my other foster, Noelle an 80 pound shepherd, are my couch potatoes and ground patrol. No squirrel is safe when they're out and about. Not that either would catch one! Rocky is house-trained and ignores the seven cats. Rocky is food sensitive, so he's given grain-free dry food, which is commonly available now. Due to his age, he has glucosamine supplements. Contact me for more info about rollicking Rocky! All Brother Wolf animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations before adoption (if species appropriate). Application and counseling is required prior to all adoptions. Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Are you someone who likes a good comedy? Perhaps someone who likes “Odie” from the Garfield comic strip? If so, then meet Roger! Roger is a curious and playful adult male dog who likes toys, kisses, and a good back scratching. His white face has a soulful look, standing out against his soft golden fur. But puppy at heart, rumor has it Roger loves a good ole tennis ball! He's also a great walking companion. Very curious, Roger perks up his ears and likes to explore. Back at home, Roger is polite and well-mannered. When he’s trying to scoot in for a cuddle, he puts his ears back and smooshes up against his human for some quality love-time. Roger likes his people and exploring time better than playing with dogs, but he might enjoy the companionship of a polite lady dog. He is a mannerly and quiet guy who would prefer a home with calm and mature companions - canine and human. No rambunctious youngsters of either species, please! Roger is part of the One-Year Sponsorship club, this means that his adoption fee is waived, and for one year after his adoption date Brother Wolf will provide food, vet care through a partner vet, and behavior support! Please come and visit Roger – he hangs out at the shelter. Just come in and say “I’d like to meet Roger!” You won’t be sorry. He’s super friendly and his tail wags a mile a minute. Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Celina (lara.celina@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Hello, My name is Dora. I have a big heart on my right shoulder. My real heart grows bigger and bigger with every positive interaction I have with people. I am a lovely lady with beautiful almond shaped eyes, soft fur and velvety ears that perfectly frame my face. For all those that know me, I am quick to greet them with a jubilant happy dance. I am very affectionate and love to give kisses. Physical activity is important to me. A home with a secure yard would be ideal. Going on hikes is quite an enjoyable experience and my favorite activity. I am well-behaved in the car. Don’t let my pretty face fool you; I’m a tough cookie, too. Staff remind me that I don’t always have to act so tough. I don’t like it when people reach for me or when dogs approach me directly. I prefer a formal introduction. I like my personal space, after all. On walks, staff and volunteers use positive reinforcement to encourage me to ignore strangers and other dogs. Ever eager to please, I have made great improvements. I need someone willing to continue to use positive reinforcement. Building on the skills that I have already learned will help us to bond easily. Not only am I a people-pleaser, but I am also treat-motivated. Feel free to ask our behavioral team for some great training tips and tricks. I am very protective and alert to intruders. At the adoption center I practice this by keeping strangers away from my run. Staff and volunteer friends tell me that that is not the best way to make new friends and meet the love of my life. Ask to meet me in the play yard. I play nice if I make your acquaintance with a proper introduction. Once I get to know you, I am incredibly loyal and affectionate. My friends at Brother Wolf have made me part of the One-Year Sponsorship club, this means that my adoption fee is waived, and for one year after my adoption date Brother Wolf will provide food, vet care through a partner vet, and behavior support! So, now that you know a little about me... let’s go out and play; we have many hiking trails to explore together! Breed: Boxer-Unknown Mix

      Location: Asheville, NC
Posted Breed: Boxer / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Lisa (lisa.alford@icloud.com) for more information about this pet. Fred is 2 years old and still has a lot of puppy in him. He will lay on the couch or in the bedroom and chew on his bones and toys. He loves to snuggle with his foster mom. He is a kisser and has appointed himself as official canine face and ear cleaner. He is house-trained and is finally learning "sit" - the spring in his butt made this difficult at first! He is crate-trained, but at first he did not like it and would bark when he was in there. He is getting more relaxed with crate training now. Fred has not been destructive in the house though, except for once mistaking a library book for one of his toys, so a crate might not be so necessary. Fred does not seem to like to be face-to-face with some dogs. Although two dogs meeting face-to-face is never a good idea, it does happen, so more socialization and practice meeting strange dogs needs to be done with Freddie. Although he is expanding his comfort with dogs, he should be the only dog in his home since he doesn't really like to share space with other canines. He would also prefer any children in his home be old enough to understand and respect his boundaries when necessary. Fred needs work getting used to the outside world. He is terrified and doesn't want to get out of the car, so he needs lots of gentle socialization and good meetings with people. A fenced yard is the best idea for him right now, since he can be scared of walking in new places. Fred is making slow and steady progress learning to be more comfortable in the world. He is such a sweet and gentle dog who needs the right patient and compassionate home to blossom in to his best self. Please contact Fred's foster mom today to learn more! All Brother Wolf animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations before adoption (if species appropriate). Application and counseling is required prior to all adoptions. Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Jackie (jackie@bwar.org) for more information about this pet. Momma Gracie - aka Momma Nublet - is a very special girl. She came to us with her newborn babies, who have all since been adopted, and is now looking for her own forever family. Momma loves all people, is very respectful of cats, and gets along fine with most dogs. She can be guarding of her food around other dogs, so should be fed separately (always a good idea). Because she was emaciated when she came to us, we guess that she was on her own for some time. Momma is super sweet, soulful, and gentle, but is also attentive and has a great protective bark she uses when strangers are near her house. She is housetrained, non destructive, and easy to care for. She's happy to sleep at your feet, or take a nice walk around the neighborhood with. Two months ago Momma Gracie had a near-fatal internal bleed. We thought she might have cancer, but it was since been ruled out and we think it was caused by a problem during her spay surgery. Today she is very happy, healthy, and a superb companion for anyone. Email Momma's fostermom Jackie at solemn78@hotmail.com to meet this one-of-a-kind dog! He'd really love a home with a fenced yard, where he could roll in the grass, bask in the sun and be with his people.
