Breed: Red Heeler Mix Estimated DOB: 10/8/13 Heartworm Status: negative Gender: Female, spayed Shots: Shots up to date Microchipped: yes Notes: Because of a strong prey drive, Oakleigh cannot go to a home with any small animals, including dogs or cats. She does get along with other similarly sized dogs though. Hi human! My name is Oakleigh! Though I may look like another member of the dalmatian group, I am a “horse of a different color.” I am a confident and independent young pup who is looking for my forever family! I have lots of energy and would love a family who is just as active and adventurous as I am. I am the queen of tug of war and vow to win every battle! I also love, love, love going on walks. My foster parents say I’m very smart and can adjust to my family’s routine easily. I know when it’s time to go to my crate and even respond to the command “kennel.” However, I am doing well with my potty training and would also do great without a crate. As I am food motivated, tricks are a breeze when I get a treat! However, I can be rather independent, so I would do best with a human who can show me who’s in charge! I am best suited to a home with high to moderate energy and need a Mommy or Daddy with the time and patience to teach me my manners. A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

DOB: 9/29/15 Female, Spayed Pit Bull Up to date on vaccinations Heartworm Negative Microchipped Hi! My name is Thelma, and I’m no Bully! I am sweet to kitty cats and other doggies, and I LOVE every human that I meet. Just so you know though, I would like to jump up and give you a kiss, so brace yourself! Okay okay, so I can be a bit of a bully to toys. I find it entertaining to tear them up. I’ve also been known to terrorize an occasional fruit in the backyard where I play. But otherwise, I wouldn’t hurt a fly! I am smart, and I learn from the world around me. I am curious and loving. There’s no such thing as personal space in my opinion! I’m also a bit stubborn sometimes when it comes to being in the crate and staying on task when it is time to potty. I’m hoping for a family that can spend a lot of time playing with me and teaching me new skills. A big backyard and playmates, furry or human, would be amazing! DOB: 4/15/14 Breed: Hound/Terrier Mix Gender: female, spayed Heartworm Status: Negative Medical Note: Rosie only has one eye, she was found injured as a puppy when rescued and the eye needed to be removed. Note: Rosie has shown herself to be overly interested in cats and has also shown aggression with other dogs. As such would be best suited to a home with no other animals. Rosie is not a CAAWS dog but a courtesy listing. She will not be attending adoptions on Saturdays at Quinn Dr. To inquire about adopting or for questions about Rosie contact her caretaker: rachel@scottfenceusa.com. Rosie is extremely loving, playful, and is a great protector of our household. She loves to go on walks and play fetch. She really likes a lot of affection, and is happy to sit by your side, at your feet, or lie down nearby wherever the action is. She has been great with our older children (grade school/middle school). She would be perfectly suited to a family/owner with lots of love and energy to give to her. Female, spayed Dachshund Mix DOB 11/9/16 Up to date on vaccinations Microchipped Hi, I’m Flora! I’m told I’m a sweet, adorable little lady who will make the perfect companion to anyone who needs a little puppy love in their life! I currently live in a foster home where I’m trying my best to learn to potty outside and stop chewing up all my toys, but I’m taking my time and enjoying my puppy days for now. I get along great with almost everyone I meet including children, cats, and other dogs. However, I do have a fierce side and will immediately bark and protect my family from the scary strangers at the door! Once that’s settled though, I’ll be back to cuddling on your lap and smothering you in love and attention. I also enjoy playing outside in a yard and going on walks, although I still don’t understand why you have to tie me to your arm. In my foster home, I’m usually not left home alone, but when I am I do great in my kennel watching doggy cartoons on TV and waiting for my family to come home! As I’m still a puppy, I’ll need a family who will be patient with me as I learn to be potty trained, try to conquer my car sickness, and discover what it takes to be the best puppy I can be. However, I’ll need no lessons in loving you unconditionally and being your furry best friend! He LOVES to play with my other dogs and has been curious with my kitty but is sweet to her (and not overly focused on her). The vet said he is approximately 2 years old so he still has that "baby" thing going where he likes to have something fun to chew on; it's up to his caretaker to make sure what he's chewing on is a safe, indestructible dog toy. :) He is very active and curious and does best with sufficient exercise. She loves to give hugs and kisses, cuddle with you on the couch, and get all the attention you can give. She absolutely adores children and would spend all of her time laying on her back so they can use her belly as a pillow if you'd let her! She also has the prettiest smile you've ever seen on a four-legged fluffy pup. Sadly she is not very good with other dogs (or any other animals) as she is very afraid of them, so she will need to be the only pet in the household and will not be the type of dog who can go to the dog park. Roxanne would do best in a household that can spend lots of time with her and have patience with her while she gains confidence learns to feel comfortable in her new surroundings. She behaves as if she was not allowed inside her previous home so she needs someone to make her realize being a part of a family inside a home is a good and safe thing. This will take a little time and effort but if you’ve got lots of love and want some soft thick fur to bury your fingers in, Roxanne would love for you to make her your new baby!
