Posted Breed: Entlebucher / Mountain Dog / Mixed. Say hello to Edgrrr! This three-year-old mountain dog has stolen the heart of his foster mom with his precious, expressive face and snuggly personality. And as much as he loves his foster home, he just knows his forever family is out there somewhere. Edgrrr is great on a leash AND in the crate. He's a very observant fella, so he likes taking in the sights with his people, whether it be on an outdoor patio for brunch or at the park on the weekends. When he gets a burst of energy, he will run around for a few minutes and then flop down on the couch in exhaustion. What a silly guy! Edgrrr's ideal home is a quiet one where his family will lavish attention and love on him. He loves to snuggle with his humans on the couch and gives great hugs! He would prefer to be the only dog, as he does not like other dogs in his face, but he could accept a friendly female companion. He also needs a family who can build his confidence as he can get nervous if he's unsure about someone or something. Could that family be yours? All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. The standard minimum donation for dogs over six months is $200, and puppies under six months is $250, unless specified otherwise. A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Elsie was very timid and fearful from living on the streets and ending up at the local shelter; but with the love and patience of her fosters, her personality is beginning to shine through. And just look at those ears! Elsie has learned to enjoy being petted, she takes treats gently from her foster parents, and she is working on learning to sit and come. She loves taking leisurely walks and lounging with her dinosaur Nyla Bone. She is hoping for a family who will let her cuddle up with them on the couch. Elsie gets along great with her two foster dog brothers, and two foster cat sisters! She is also housebroken and crate trained. Though it may take her a little time to warm up, she does great with humans – kids and adults! Elsie is really just looking for someone to give her the chance at a loving home she deserves. Could that be you? Apply to adopt Elsie today! All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 200.00. Meet Truvy! This sweet dame is a chi-weenie mix who is the prime example of a “rescue dog”. She was rescued from a local shelter, where she came in as a stray with heartworm and clear signs of neglect. While shy at first, she is a perfectly behaved girl who is looking for a new leash on life. Truvy’s foster home is probably the first home she’s ever lived in. From her initial behaviors and some physical signs, she’s clearly lived outdoors most of her life. She spends most of her time indoors in one of her many doggy beds, and has had to learn how to become a “pet”. She loves being outside, and is friendly with other dogs and people she meets. She would thrive best in a home where she can have access to a quiet backyard, especially with another canine companion (or more) to help with her confidence and to buddy up with. She does well on leash and on walks, but her walks are usually slow and short. She is housebroken, and has never had any bad behaviors like chewing or barking. It may take her a little time to warm up to you, so her new family will have to be understanding of this and be patient while she gets comfortable in a new home. She has come a long way since her shelter days, and is getting more social with new people. Truvy mostly keeps to herself, but probably has never had a loving owner to dote on her. Now that Truvy is recovered from Heartworm treatment, her foster mom is able to socialize her more. Truvy LOVES going to the dog park! She likes to walk around and enjoy the outdoors, mingling with other dogs and people. And despite being shy and petite, she has never been scared or skittish around other dogs. Truvy does well with cats and kittens as well, and even guinea pigs! Her foster mom has an over-friendly guinea pig who thinks she’s a dog, who will go into Truvy’s kennel to say hi and hang out (and to snag some of her food). Truvy is sweet and welcoming to her! Truvy has met kids at adoption events, and doesn't mind them petting and loving on her! Truvy has had to overcome some physical obstacles, including knee surgery, but she is healed and on her way to a hopeful future. The hurdles she’s faced are ones she can overcome, and she just needs a loving home to grow old in. Want to give this kind gal the happy ever after she deserves? Apply to adopt Truvy today! Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 100.00. This sweet smiling face belongs to Billy Jean! She is a chihuahua mix of about 5 years of age with a distinctive brown/fawn coat and cute white outlined features on her gentle face! This special girl is very smart and is picking up on her basic commands. She can walk well on a leash, and is also crate trained and housebroken. In fact, her foster mom reports that she is so good inside that she doesn't need to be crated much during day! Billy Jean is full of life, love and affection! She will have ALL eyes on you, and follow you around like a little shadow! She can be a little timid when you reach to pet her. Her past is unknown, but she may have experienced abuse in the past and may need some extra nurturing and patience while she learns to trust her new humans. A quiet household with older kids and not a lot of wild loud activity would be a good home environment for her. All of this, however, does not stop her from having an almost permanent smile and being friendly to humans, dogs, and cats alike! Her foster mom strongly believes that in time, Billy will be open and able to enjoy all levels of caring and tenderness shown to her. Billy Jean adores her foster fur siblings, and will do terrific in a house with the bonus of doggy company and playtime, preferably in a yard! She has so much going for her, and now that she is in loving hands, her future is set to be even more promising. Could it be with you? Apply to adopt her today! Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 200.00. Hi there! My Name is Rusty because of my beautiful rust red coat and gorgeous hazel eyes. I LOVE humans of all shapes and sizes, and my favorite thing is to put my head in your lap or lay next to you on the couch. I help my foster mom clean, work in the backyard, and make dinner. I love interacting with my human friends… and I even like ear scratches from the mailman! I also love tug-o-war and squeaky toys. I’m crate trained, potty trained, and my foster mom has taught me to sleep on my dog bed. She’s also teaching me to heel, sit, stay, and wait for her commands before doing my favorite things. I learned shake in one week and my foster mom is convinced I can learn anything! I love playing with other dogs, but I’m also good at leaving my older foster brother alone. My ideal family would be someone who likes some type of daily activity- either dog park, daily walks, or another dog that also likes to play! On days I don’t get as much activity, I’m still not hyper in the house as long as I have my toys to keep me busy. I greet my foster mom with the cutest happy howl when she gets home. If you’d like to make my happy howl your own and want a lovable, snuggable, playful dog - that’s me! Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 200.00. Meet Molly! This pretty gal is a 4 year old Pittie mix, who was found as a stray and appeared to have had a litter at some point. Once with Dallas Pets Alive, it was discovered that she had heartworm and Breast Cancer. Fortunately she has been treated and has recovered fully in her awesome foster home! This girl is known around her foster home as a "people pleaser". She just loves her humans being around! Molly will basically become your shadow, whether it's sitting on the couch relaxing or having coffee on the porch in the morning. She also LOVES kids! Molly may do best in a home where she’s the only pet. She doesn’t so well with cats, and is selective with dogs and slow to warm up to them. She would probably also do best in a home with a yard, as opposed to an apartment. She enjoys long walks, but mostly enjoys having a patio to relax on. She is still learning what to do with dogs toys, but she enjoys chewing on deer antler treats. Molly is house trained, and crate trained, although she prefers to not be crated. She walks well on leash, but does tend to pull – nothing a harness can’t help with! She’s an intelligent pup who is eager to please, so some TLC and training will work wonders for her! Molly’s new leash on life has already jump-started in her foster home, but she’s very deserving of a wonderful fur-ever home! Do you want to give this survivor her new beginning? Apply to adopt Molly today! All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. This little guy was found on the streets, but is learning the ropes of puppyhood in a foster home and hoping his forever home is just around the corner. For now, he's enjoying cuddling with his foster mom, playing with anything in his path, and wiggling his bottom. Tantor is crate training, does well with older kids, and can be particular about his doggie friends. He would do best with other dogs who have a similar energy level. He loves to sit on laps and snuggle with people when he's not playing. His foster mom says his activity level is about a medium, and likens his silly, stocky physique to that of an elephant! Tantor's ideal home is one where he can be the sole attention-getter. He'd like an active family to keep him busy, but also to let him cuddle during down time. This happy girl always has her tail wagging and loves attention and cuddles. She was adopted from the shelter when she was younger but was picked up again recently as a stray, so this sweet pup deserves a loving forever home! Sandy is a mid-sized dog who does well on a leash and likes to investigate everything during walks. She enjoys being able to explore. She is crate trained and housebroken, and has no issues having free-roam of her foster home along with her foster dog sibling. She doesn't chew and isn't destructive - she's been the perfect house guest! Sandy is great with other dogs, but hasn’t been around cats or children since being at Dallas Pets Alive. Of course we are sure she’d be happy to meet them! Sandy is a low to moderate energy dog most of the time, but gets so excited and dances around when her humans come home. What a greeting! She also loves squeaky toys, chew toys, treats, and carrying her stuffed animals around (who she also loves to snuggle and sleep with). She would do great in a home with other animals or as an only pet. Sandy just wants to be in a home where she’ll get plenty of love and attention. She really loves being around her humans either chilling out with cuddles or out for a long walk. She’s ready to find her forever home…are you ready to meet Sandy? Apply to adopt her today!
