Posted Breed: Scottish Terrier Scottie. Ripkin is a black and gold brindle Scottie boy that is approximately 8 years of age. He is quite active when you first meet him, but once the excitement subsides, he becomes a loveable guy that is wanting nothing more than your love and attention! He is protective of toys and food, like many Scots. All dogs adopted by Scottie Kingdom Rescue, Inc. have had a full medical exam by one of our licensed Veterinarians, which includes testing (and treatment, if necessary) for Heartworm disease, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis, all necessary vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, dental cleaning as necessary, microchipping, registration of the microchip, and any other medical needs each particular dog may need. Copies of all available medical records are transferred to you when the adoption is finalized. We prefer to adopt to families with past Scottie, Westie, Terrier (or similar) experience, but realize this isn’t always possible. We do NOT ship our pets. If you have that special place in your heart, and in your home, for a Scottie (or any of our other available rescue dogs), please visit us in Dallas for an in person meet & greet session with our available dogs. If you have existing dogs, they must travel to Dallas with you, so we can be assured that they will be compatible with the new addition to your family. Please contact us at Rescue@scottiekingdom.com to receive an Adoption Application or for more information on our Adoption process. Also, please take the time to visit our website www.scottiekingdom.com for additional information. We sometimes receive several applications on the same dog. Our goal is to place the dog in the best home possible, based on his/her needs, personality and past history. Please note: Adoptions are not done on a first come, first served basis. Submitting an application does not guarantee the adoption of any dog. We are looking for the best available home for each of our rescue dogs. Thank you for your understanding, and for considering adoption! Donations may be made via PayPal to email address: Donate@scottiekingdom.com or via USPS, to PO Box 551265 ~ Dallas, TX 75355

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Lydia

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Scottish Terrier Scottie. Lydia came to us from a commercial breeding facility where she was never properly socialized. It's something that is relatively easy when a dog is a puppy, but as an adult, it can take months, even years in severe cases. It has taken us 8-12 months just to get Lydia to willingly walk on grass. It's something she is not used to, but has finally realized that green stuff will not harm her! Lydia still has other issues though. She is fearful of the groomer, despite going to the same location time and time again. She gets anxious and sometimes will nervously wet or defecate. Once settled in, she is fine and allows the groomer to give her a proper grooming. As much as we have tried, Lydia will not lay quietly on a sofa and snuggle or watch TV. She prefers the safety of her bed; another sign of her past life. Due to past bladder stones, Lydia requires a special "S/O" prescription diet for the remainder of her life and yearly urine tests to confirm she does not have other bladder stones. Lydia is an adorable Scottie girl that may never be a "regular" Scottie. Only time will tell. Her new home should be extraordinarily patient with her. She requires a home with past Scottie experience, located near the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. We estimate her age at 7-9yo. ________________________________________ Lydia was surrendered to Scottie Kingdom Rescue from a commercial breeding facility. Within 24 hours, it was clear she did not feel well, and was immediately taken to our vet. Testing determined that Lydia's bladder is packed with bladder stones, which have also led to a severe urinary tract infection. She is now being given high doses of antibiotics and pain medication, in anticipation of urgently needed surgery on Monday. She will also require a dental cleaning and possibly some extractions, but this will have to be done at a later date, as her Cystotomy (bladder surgery) is urgently needed. It is unknown if she will tolerate being spayed at the same time of her Cystotomy, so this too may have to be delayed. Lydia is approximately 6yo. Once all of her medical needs are met, she will more than likely require a special diet, so there isn't a recurrence of the bladder stones. Lydia's surgery was estimated to cost $1,000.00, and while it was more costly than planned, we have now received donations covering these costs. Lydia thanks each and every person that donated to her fund. You all are special angels! Thank you for your help. Thank you for caring. Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Scottish Terrier Scottie. 9-23-17 Yodell continues to improve. We received the results of his urine culture. The infection is sensitive to the antibiotics that he is already taking, so we plan to keep him on them for at least 2 weeks, then have his urine tested again. These tests and his hospitalization have been expensive, but this senior citizen deserves to have the medical care he requires! 9-20-17 Yodell's temperature seems to have finally stabilized, after a high yesterday of 103. We are still waiting for his urine culture results which will determine the best antibiotic to give him. He remains hospitalized on IV fluids and IV antibiotics. We are hoping to bring him back to his foster home tomorrow. 9-19-17 We received Yodell's urinalysis results this morning. There are no TCC cells in his urine, which is good news. We're now culturing his urine to see which specific antibiotics will attack the massive infection he has in his bladder and kidneys. He threw a blood clot during the night, so he has been started on blood thinning medications. Yodell will remain hospitalized. 9-18-17 Yodell was taken to our vet early this morning with a high fever (105), vomiting, diarrhea and blood in his urine. He has been hospitalized, placed on IV fluids and IV antibiotics. The day was spent having multiple tests, such as ultrasound, blood testing, fecal testing and he was catherized in order to obtain a sterile urine sample for testing. It is possible Yodell has acquired TCC, but we won't know for sure until his test results come in, hopefully tomorrow. In the meantime, he remains hospitalized. If you are able to help us with the high cost of his hospitalization and tests, he would be so grateful. Donations may be made via PayPal to email address: Rescue@scottiekingdom.com or via USPS, to PO Box 551265 ~ Dallas, TX 75355 Thank you for your generosity in helping Yodell - - - - - Yodell was recently surrendered to us so he could find a new home. If you enjoy giving a lot of love and attention to your companion, Muffie Vanderdaug may be the girl for you! Muffie loves attention so much, that she becomes jealous of other nearby dogs when they receive attention, therefore, she should be adopted as an only pet. Muffie has been diagnosed with Diabetes Insipidus. She takes an oral medication twice a day to control her water intake. Other than taking this medication, she does not require other care. Posted Breed: Scottish Terrier Scottie / Mixed. Cheyenne had been in a home for several years, but when she saw an open gate, she took advantage of it and took a stroll that landed her in animal control. After being contacted by the shelter, unbelievably, her family chose not to bring her home again, despite knowing she was at risk of being put to sleep. We brought Cheyenne to safety and had her checked out by one of our wonderful vets. Cheyenne is 10-15 lbs overweight and has started a new diet to help her shed those extra pounds. This sweet girl wants nothing more than love and attention, and seeks it out with a constantly wagging tail! We estimate Cheyenne's age at 9yo. She has a good activity level and appears to be house trained. She will make a wonderful companion for a family willing to continue her weight loss program. Posted Breed: Scottish Terrier Scottie. When we were contacted about MacTavish needing assistance, we couldn't possibly say no. He obviously had been neglected, had little socialization and was angry while staying in a shelter environment. Our first hours and days with him were trying, but in the end, love and kindness won. We quickly realized "Tav" had been abused. He was petrified of anything resembling a stick, such as a broom, or even the "pooper scooper". In time, he has realized he is safe and won't be hit again. Now, he eagerly sits up for a treat, and loves his time getting belly rubs on the sofa. Tav has had a full physical exam, updated vaccinations, neutering, a dental cleaning, and a growth removal (which was benign). He needs to find a home with Scottie experience, a quiet environment and human parents that are eager to continue his socialization into the world of kindness. Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Scottish Terrier Scottie. Chandler is a victim of the bad economy. His home was lost to foreclosure, his family forced to move, and instead of taking him with them, they left him locked inside, with a small amount of food and water. After several days of hearing his cries for help, neighbors broke in to the house, to save Chandler, and give him food and water. Afterwards, they continued to feed him, however, his life was delegated to a yard that he continuously got out of; probably looking for his family that abandoned him. After several days of research, his previous family was located, and gave us permission to place Chandler in our rescue program. As you can see from the photos, Chandler didn't have a great life, even when his family was with him. He was constantly tied up outside, left for days at a time, and his coat and skin suffered for it. The tether he was attached to, tightened around his neck, wearing down the hair and causing a rash and skin burns. These photos were taken after his matted, filthy coat was shaved off. There was no other way to properly groom him. Interestingly, after we rescued this wonderful Scottie, all of his fears went away, and he has become a true Scot! No more worries about where his next meal will come from and no concerns for fresh water. His medical needs have now been met, and he is ready to find his new home. Feeding Chandler a high quality food helped his coat immensely, however, it may never completely return. Nevertheless, Chandler adores attention and being held and petted. So much so, he has some jealousy issues with other dogs. Come visit this wonderful Scottie boy, and consider giving him a life-long home that he can call his own! Chandler is approximately 8-9yo. Posted Breed: Scottish Terrier Scottie. This beautiful boy was tossed over a fence in a residential area, and thankfully, the homeowner contacted us for assistance. We have updated Maestro's vaccinations, had a growth removed (it was benign) and he had a dental with multiple extractions. He has recovered well from his medical treatment and is now ready to find a new home. He is an adorable Scottie boy with a great attention grabbing demeanor. He does tend to want to be the "alpha" at first, but will back-off when told to by another Scottie. Sadly, Maestro cannot hear, probably due to neglect of past ear infections, but he understands a bit of "come here" sign language and certainly knows how to jump up on the sofa! We estimate his age at 7yo. Maestro's new home should have current/past Scottie experience and fully understand the needs of a deaf family member.
