Guy needs a foster home!! Could he crash on your sofa while he looks for a forever home? Contact YvetteG@K-9Lifesavers.org to foster! Adoption Fee: $300 Meet Guy! This handsome guy with soft fur was sprung from a shelter in rural West Virginia. When he was picked up he was very unsure of why he was being loaded into a big white van, he was scared and confused. We kept telling him he was safe, loved and had a bright future ahead. Within a few days Guy's sweet and playful nature was uncovered! He loves playing with other dogs, likes to play outside in the big kennel runs and is eager to learn more doggie manners like basic commands. Guy is a lovable lug and really enjoys going to our weekend Adoption Events. Guy knows exactly wear we keep the treats and likes to hang around pretending not to know all the wonderful manners he's learned like "sit" and "down"! Each week, his handler says "Look what I taught him!" Guy is a smart boy and LOVES belly rubs and lots of pets. He is a great dog looking for a great home. Could it be yours? Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family. A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

She has since filled up (we may have overcompensated a little with the food), and is treated for heartworm. Now she is good as new and ready to find a forever home. Nessie loves children and people and loves attention, snuggles, and squeaky toys. She loves to carry her toy around in her mouth and loves to curl on a sofa for some petting. She is in a foster with multiple dogs but she is very alpha so would likely do better as only dog or with just one other dog who is not alpha. She is great with people though so can totally make up for being your one and only. She even loves toddlers! And she is housebroken. Will she be your dream girl? Mallomar would benefit from a foster. If your interested in learning more ask Yvette at yvette21037@yahoo.com. Adoption Fee: $300 Meet Mallomar, a happy, playful bundle of energy who hasn’t met a person he didn’t love. Mallomar is up to date on all his shots, micro-chipped, housebroken, crate-trained and can sit, lie down, stay and (sometimes) roll over on command. Mallomar loves belly rubs more than anything else—except for meeting new people. . Mallomar also loves to play tug-of-war and chases balls (and is now learning that if he brings the balls back, he gets a better and faster chance at chasing the ball again). He also has an adorable way of tilting his head and raising his eyebrows and giving you a questioning look when he is curious or wondering what you are saying. He would likely thrive in a household, with active family. Mallomar does get protective with his food, so he will need a family who is willing to work with him on food guarding and would likely do better as an only dog because of this tendency. He gets along fine with other dogs, but likes to rough house a bit so might be overwhelming for a doggie who doesn't match his energy levels .. This sweet pup was found with her brother wandering around in a yard in Georgia with no mama in sight. They were nothing but skin and bones. Since then, both pups have made an amazing turnaround. However, he has been in boarding for a while now, and he needs to learn what it means to live in a house. He loves the open space and would have a lot of fun playing in a backyard. Walker is a real smart guy. He is very food motivated, super playful and adores his tennis balls and squeaky toys. He loves to have fun with other dogs, but he does put a lot of energy into it sometimes. Can you make his wish come true? Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family. Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery, rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, and our transport costs. Foster Program: Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home. Adoption Counselor: Dena at denae@k-9lifesavers.org Dog's Name: Chevy Estimated Breed: Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix Approximate Age: 3 years Approximate Weight: 15 lbs Currently Living at: Foster - already neutered, up to date with shots, good with older kids, ok with small dogs only, not good with cats. Adoption Fee: $300.00 PLEASE HELP CHEVY! He has been is rescue for a long time and would really, REALLY love to find a family he can call his own. Chevy is a very special boy and deserves a very special family to love him. He has come a long way from the negative past he most certainly endured and he's started to overwrite those bad memories with good memories. When Chevy came to rescue he had wounds all over his body from being beat up by other dogs and that is the reason for his anxiety towards other dogs. Because of that, he takes a little while to trust, but once he does he's fiercely loyal and protective. If you enjoy the feisty, smart, active personality types, then Chevy is for you...he's smart, fast, and furious! He is also a little lover boy but in a cool dude sort of way. Chevy really has become a great little guy and really enjoys sitting by you and getting attention. He is very good about entertaining himself in the backyard and loves to play outside, bask in the sun on the lounger by the pool, chase squirrels, or just sniff around. Chevy has been looking for his furever home for quite sometime and someday he is hopeful the right person or family (with older children, not babies) will be looking for a cool little dude and take him home! Once he trusts his human and learns his new home, he is protective of his domain. Please consider giving Chevy a chance at a loving home, he truly is a wonderful dog with just a couple quirks! Chevy will enhance your life and make you smile after a long day at work. Chevy is fully house-trained and is good with small dogs (best with small females) once he gets to know them; no big dogs and no cats. He would, however, prefer to be an only dog, if possible. Chevy MUST have a fenced yard to play in since the dog park makes him nervous. He is gentle and kind to adults and children that don't get in his face and he loves to wrestle with his foster siblings and carry around stuffed animals everywhere he goes. If you would consider giving Chevy the very special home he deserves, please contact Dena (denae@k-9lifesavers.org) to talk in-depth about Chevy.
