Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). DOB: 7/22/11 My name is Macon. I'm a sweet hound dog looking for my forever home. I will howl to play and howl for my food, but I'm not a big barker. I love to sit and gaze out the window during the day. It makes me happy. I am house trained, crate trained, love treats and know basic commands. My foster mom trusts me enough not to crate me. I love to run around in my fenced in back yard and love to romp and play with my canine friends. My new home would need a 6 ft fenced yard because I am athletic enough to jump shorter fences. Socially, I get along very well with all dogs, big and small. If you are looking for a low maintenance, part-time couch potato who loves to snuggle with humans, then I'm the dog for you. (AF*) Up to date on age appropriate vaccines, neutered and micro-chipped. Adoption Fee: $75.00

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). DOB: 8/20/2015 My name is Mr. Goofy. I was surrendered to RUFF due to a domestic violence situation. I'm not really a goofy dog. But my foster Mom said I needed a new name to move forward. I am working on my southern ways because I like ice and sweet tea. I like to break limbs off my foster mom's butterfly bush and run around the yard getting the other dogs to play with me. I am house and crate trained. I know how to sit. I come sometimes when called but may cower down because I was afraid in my previous home. I just need some reassurance that it is OK to come inside. I'm learning to trust humans again in my foster home. I am looking for my forever home where I can feel safe and secure. (D&JB/AF*) Up to date on age appropriate vaccines, neutered and micro-chipped. Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). DOB: 7/15/2011 RUFF CLASSIFIED PERSONALS: DORA, LAB/TERRIER MIX SHY DOG SEEKING AN AMAZING SINGLE LADY. I'm a 5 year old shy, black, and a little chubby lab mix who needs a week or so of your kindness to warm up to you. Once I do, I'm yours for life. I'm sensitive to noise and need a quiet home without a lot of visitors. Or a place to go when I get don't want to be social. I'd love a house with a yard and a doggie door as I enjoy lying in the sun. I'm housebroken, and would love to sit at your feet while you work from home. I can sit for treats and love to chew on a bone. I like boy dogs if not too rambunctious. And you don't need much of a security alarm system, because I have a very BIG bark. But honestly, I will probably hide in a closet. I hope you have a big ol' couch so we could cuddle in front of the 50" HDTV. I don't care what we watch as long as I can be with you. Do you need me as much as I need you??????? (TJ/CM*) Up to date on age appropriate vaccines, spayed and micro-chipped. Adoption Fee: $75.00

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Hound / Mixed (short coat). DOB: 12/15/2011 Ruff Ruff. That's "How are you doing today?" in canine language. Everyone calls me Endy, which is short for Endurance. I hate to toot my own horn but I am a pretty cool dog. I have completed basic obedience so I know how to mind my manners. I even cross my front paws when I lie down. My foster mom tells me how smart I am, and for some reason she laughs really hard when I play with my toys. What's the big deal about tossing my toys in the air and catching them? I would say I am a moderately active dog. I do like to be outside so a fenced yard would be really nice. I can run really fast like the wind. I am sort of partial to country life as well. After my playtime outside in the yard, I like to come inside and lie by your feet to take a nap. I think I would like to be able to keep a retired couple happy. The grandkids could come over and play with me once in a while. I would like that. I am a fairly large dog (not really, my head just makes me look that way). I would make an awesome protector. I look like a pretty tough guy, but shhhhh don't tell anyone, I am really just a big ole mush who loves belly rubs and baby talk. I kinda of prefer to keep my humans all to myself. I don't like to share with other dogs and cats! ewwww no way. I mean they are ok, but I chase them and then I get in trouble. So no cats please. If you are looking for a dog to be your best bud in life or partner in crime (I am flexible), please complete and application and ask to meet me!! Posted Breed: Red Heeler / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). DOB: 11/28/2013 My name is Ginger and I am a shy girl, but I have a smile that lights up the world! I would love a home that has a confident dog that would help me realize the world isn't such a scary place. I would prefer a fenced in yard (no underground fence). I am house broken and a good girl. I would probably do best in a home without cats (they tend to scare me). I need a patient family who will give me time to adjust, provide reassurance and can help me blossom into an awesome family pet. I can't wait to find a forever home!
