Posted Breed: Schnauzer / Terrier / Mixed. *** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO. Are you looking for that special dog, the one whose life you know only you can make better? Are you seeking to rescue a sweet, gentle soul who has been searching for a place to call home and people of his very own? Will you open your heart and home to this special fellow whose minor issues will be resolved with your love, companionship and patience? If so, then please consider Ernie. He is approximately 6 years old and an adorable scruffy kind of boy. We think he has a bit of terrier in him. He is extremely sensitive and would thrive in a home that is relatively quiet and laid back. He is fine with cats and other dogs as long as they are not too pushy or demanding. He will do everything in his power to avoid confrontations, but will let other dogs know when they've pushed him to the limit. If you have a mellow dog, Ernie would be great with it. Ernie enjoys going for walks as they broaden his horizons and bolster his confidence. He also enjoys basking in the sunshine. Ernie gets extremely animated at meal times (his) and when his people come home. He is crate trained and having one would help him adjust to a new home and routines. Ernie is very well mannered and understands basic commands. But, the terrier in him can make him a little stubborn! Nothing is known about Ernie's previous life before coming into rescue a year ago. The one thing we do know is he wants to be around his favorite person(s) as much as possible so a work at home, or retired person would be ideal. If interested in adopting Ernie, you need to realize he is not a wash and wear kind of guy. He will need to meet you, visit your home, have you take him for walks and possibly “daycare” him for an hour or two over the course of time so that he becomes quite familiar with you, your home and yard. Inquires can be directed to Delores at (775) 241-7210 or dmcgifford@charter.net.

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. *** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO. Conner is a beautiful, sweet, loving Pit mix brindle boy. He is about 6-7 years old and weighs about 60-65 pounds. He is house broken, crate trained, vaccinated, microchipped and waiting for his loving forever home to show up. Super sweet with people; stand-offish with unknown dogs. With proper introduction warms up quickly. NO cats. Plays ball. Absolutely loves the water and car rides. He is summer fun in one beautiful package. He thinks he's a tiny lap dog and is always trying to crawl up in your lap. If you're not in the chair, he crawls up and waits for you. He will chose getting love and pets from his person, over everything else: Treats, food, toys, all go by the wayside and are not as important as getting attention and love. She is a year old Shepherd mix (look at those ears) that needs a special home with an experienced dog handler. She is fun, active, and gets along with other dogs for the most part. However, if a dog growls at her she will defend herself and react. Not recommended for a dog park with dogs she doesn't know. She was recently adopted from a kill shelter. Her current owners find they can no longer keep her due to an unfortunate event. She's spayed and fully vaccinated and loves people she knows. She will take time to open up to new people once she is comfortable. She loves her people and is a great exercise buddy. She is crate trained and housebroken. A home check and rehoming fee apply. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. *** COURTESY LISTING *** PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL THE PERSON LISTED. DO NOT CONTACT WARF AS WE HAVE NO FURTHER INFO. Cheyanne is an 11yr old blond Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She was living in the back of a wrecked pick-up with a camper shell on it in triple degree heat in Modesto, when a Paw Printz volunteer found her. Even so, she adores her people. Cheyanne is definitely a dog with personality. She doesn't like cats and is picky about what dogs she does likes. She needs an alpha owner, so she won't think she can rule the roost. She is a special needs dog for several reasons but the most life threatening is that she has hemoletic anemia. She CAN NOT ever have another vaccination in her life. It will kill her. Luckily she was a the vets office when she was given her last shots, as she went into anaphylactic shock. The doctors were able to bring her back but determined that she could never be vaccinated again. Also, she has had knee surgery on both of her knees by one of the most excellent orthopedic vets I have seen in my years of rescue. Nonetheless, her new home will need to be careful about over use or heavy play. As Cheyanne will do anything you ask without regard for her health. She just wants to make her person happy. Cheyanne spayed, up to date on vaccines is crate trained, house broken, microchipped and knows basic obedience. Cleo is a senior at 14 years old. She is all personality. She likes to talk, and she will sing with you. She adores people and is friendly to all dogs, but no cats. If you are sitting down, she will come over and put her head on your lap. If that doesn't get your attention, she will poke you with her nose. She has that wonderful big bully smile. You can't help but smile when you look at her. She loves to chase, a laser pointer is her favorite, but will chase after a ball as well, only she has no idea what to do when she gets to it so turns around (without the ball, of course) and runs back to her person with a big smile on her face and her tail wagging a mile a minute. If we could figure out how to hook something up to that tail, we could generate enough energy to run a small town! It never stops wagging-even in her sleep! She is a happy happy dog and makes all those around her happy as well. Cleopatra is crate trained, house broken, microchipped, current of her shots and knows basic obedience. She can also catch treats tossed at her. She loves her food and would happily search the kitchen floor for dropped goodies if you let her. Contact is Cyndi: Email: pawprintzrescue@gmail.com

Her adoption fee through Central California Labrador Retriever Rescue is $150.00. If interested, complete an adoption application at www.cc-labrescue.org and contact Kim samtur@pacbell.net D16-088 CHINA is a 9 year old 85 lb. black female lab mix. She came to us from the Fresno SPCA as an owner surrender. This sweet girl is a delight to be around and all she wants in return is to be near and follow you everywhere. She knows her basic obedience - sit, stay, down, come and walks nicely on leash. She is housebroken and crate trained. Sleeps all night on her dog bed pillow or in a wire crate with not a sound. She enjoys car rides and her very favorite is "tummy rubs." She also likes short walks and time to mosey around the backyard at her leisure. China is real friendly and likes everyone. Eats like a lady and takes treats gently. Not sure how she is with cats, she's ok with other dogs with proper introduction, but her choice is to be an 'only' dog. China will make an excellent companion for a non-active family. UPDATE: China is a special needs dog. We recently found that she has diabetes but you wouldn't know it, she is the same happy and friendly loving girl as always. And looking good at 76 lbs! She needs someone who will commit to giving her daily insulin injections, keeping her meals on schedule, feeding a good quality dog food (no prescription diet necessary) and limiting her treats to healthy ones. China is looking for that special home so she can enjoy her remaining senior years all comfy and cozy at your side.

DOB 7/22/2005. I love to play, especially with my rope toy, and man do I love to run. I am a big goofy boy as you can see from my pictures. I am so handsome, and I give the best kisses of all time and will snuggle with you for hours (once I get to know you). If you are on the computer or just sitting down watching TV I will put my head on your lap and wait for attention. They think I am a Brittany spaniel/ golden retriever/ pointer mix. That's a pretty good combination of brains and beauty if I do say so myself. Oh and, personally I don't know what the problem is, but the people say I have to mention this, so here goes. I'm kind of afraid of some things and my initial reaction is, well, to bite. It's just a warning bite. It doesn't usually break the skin, but I guess it can be scary for some people. I immediately regret it but sometimes I just can't help it. Plus, those little people who are very noisy and get all up in my face while getting even louder and sometimes shrill! Yeah. They really scare me! I don't like them very much at all! Um, children, I guess, is what the people call them. So if you don't have any of those, (children), that would work best for me. No children. That's what the people said I had to tell you. So, I did. But the lady I'm with now knows all about it and can tell you all that 'detail' stuff about me when you come out to see me. The bottom line is I am a good boy! So be sure to send an email to: pawprintzrescue@gmail.com and request an application. Lance has trust issues, so needs a special home. No kids, No cats.
