Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed. CUTE SCRUFFY GIRL: 6 years old / 11 lbs. I need a little patience but I'm sooooo worth it. I am a little slow to warm up to new people, but once I do, I'm a cuddly sweetheart who enjoys your lap and bed. I can be a bit nippy at first if you try to rush me, and I have bitten folks at PetSmart adoptions because it's loud and frightening there for me and folks tend not to take it slowly. I was best friends with my foster mom very quickly and when I went to the vet, they put a muzzle on me at first but after the tech held me for a few minutes I was fine. She took off the muzzle and I crawled into her lap. Did I mention I just don't like to be rushed? I love to go for walks and car rides because that means I get to spend more time with my person. I'll be happiest in a calm environment without a lot of people coming and going. Another playful and friendly dog would be nice in my new home as I do like to play and I do well on a schedule with my potty manners. Much older calm and quieter type kids only since I need time to warm up and have bitten when afraid. Energy level: 4 – 6. I'm current on vaccinations, spayed and my adoption fee has been waived. Mostly Mutts is asking for a minimum $100.00 donation for me and that you provide me with a fantastic forever home. I don't come to adoptions because it's pretty stressful for me, but you can talk to my foster mom for more information about me and to meet. Just send an email to adopt@mostlymutts.org.

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. A WONDERFUL SPECIAL NEEDS PUPPY: 11 months old / Currently 37 lbs. Meet me Saturdays at 1 of our 2 Kennesaw locations from 11-4pm. Check for my location at www.mostlymutts.org after 5pm on Fridays. I'm a wonderful, happy pup who's had a hard start to life, but I don't let anything get me down as I'm full of life and I love to play! I came to Mostly Mutts with a broken back and unable to use my back legs at all but I've gotten a little use back. I recently had surgery to amputate one back leg and my tail. I hope that my remaining leg will get stronger and give me more support. Having no tail means my diaper stays on better—yay!. Yes, I do wear a diaper to help with bladder and bowel control but tend not to go in it a lot. My foster family takes me outside and removes my diaper and then I'll go as soon as it comes off. I don't know if I'll ever really be able to not wear a diaper, so you must be willing to change them and keep me clean. I love all people and they love me too and being with people and other animal friends is the best! I like cuddling with both human and canine alike! I also like going outside with my people as that's where we do some therapy with my family helping me stand and get used to my wheelchair, so I can run and move all I want. I can get better traction outside and am motivated to explore! It's great fun. I can also practice my therapy with you on the carpet. We find that wearing a diaper and a toddler onesie gives my back support and may help me have better strength, but I’m outgrowing the onesie’s so a thunder shirt could be helpful with a little back support. I must stay slim to protect my back, so not too many treats for me please and I should be adopted by a family with no stairs or with someone who can carry me up and down stairs. I am not in pain either, so that’s great! You can contact Tammy for more information about me at 770-314-8974. My best friend is Iggy who has similar back issues as me, so if you happen to want 2 wonderful special needs doggies, MM's will let you adopt both of us for one adoption fee of $275.00 or my adoption fee alone has been waived and Mostly Mutts is asking for a minimum $100.00 tax deductible donation for me and that you provide me with a fantastic forever home. Energy level: Currently 3–4, but should be a little higher the stronger I get. I'm spayed, micro-chipped and current on my shots.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. A SWEET NATURED GIRL: 10 years old / 29 lbs. Meet me Saturdays at 1 of our 2 Kennesaw locations from 11-4pm. Check for my location at www.mostlymutts.org after 5pm on Fridays. I'm a gentle girl who is calm in my foster home and quite comfortable with other dogs, cats and children. My foster mom says that I'm polite and don't ask for much, but that I absolutely LOVE neck scratches! I walk well on a leash and enjoy short walks, love car rides and am well past the age of chewing on things. I've also been very quiet and laid back in my foster home taking lots of naps on my comfy doggie bed. It's great getting to live in a foster home while I wait for my new family to adopt me, as shelter life was really hard for me and I didn't like it at all. The folks were super nice, but I was so lonely in my room that I barked a lot. In my foster home, I have good potty manners and will look at you to let you know I need to go outside. Please don't leave me unattended in a yard though as at animal control, I climbed the fences in no time. I just like being with people and need to be in a home where there is someone around a lot, so I don’t have too much separation anxiety. A stay or work from home family member would be perfect! I’ve just started a medication to help me when my family is away as my foster mom does work outside the home. I know that there’s a great family out there that will treasure me like my foster mom does. We tried to have my teeth cleaned, but I did not do well with the anesthesia, so perhaps you could use one of the dental sprays or gels for me. I eat my kibble with some hot water to soften it and some canned food mixed in. Yummy! Energy level: 4 - 6. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. My adoption fee has been waived and Mostly Mutts is asking for a minimum $100.00 donation for me and that you provide me with a fantastic forever home.

Check for my location at www.mostlymutts.org after 5pm on Fridays. I'm a very sweet, happy and friendly girl who's looking for a kind-hearted family to love! I have a wonderful disposition even though I have a physical challenge. I've not really been able to use my front legs very well, so I've hopped and compensated with my hind legs for my whole life. Now I have some hip dysplasia so Mostly Mutts had a surgery completed on my right front leg and it was a success! So I'm using both my front legs now and that's great news! I do walk very differently, but hey, I'm walking and I get around really well and have a smile on my face too! I’ve even walked almost a half mile, but I take my time to sniff. I’ve learned ‘sit’ and ‘come’ in my foster home and I have good potty manners as well. I'll need a home with minimal to no stairs and I need to stay nice and slim to help me walk so please don't overfeed me, but you can give me all the TLC you want and I'll just eat it up. I love to be brushed and belly rubs, so that's one way you can show your love for me! I seem fine with other dogs but kitty cats and I have an understanding that we should not live together. I’m a good watch dog and bark to alert you when folks come up to the door or there is a loud noise. Other than that, I’ve been pretty quiet in my foster home although I was loud at the shelter. I was toy and bone aggressive but have improved a little in my foster home with sharing toys as long as you trade them out for another. I should not live with kids due to this and because for whatever reason I don't care for them, so an all adult home is what I need! I've finished my heart-worm treatment and I'm happy that it's over! You can call Tammy at 770-314-8974 for more detailed info. about me or email adopt@mostlymutts.org. Energy level: 4 – 6. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, spayed and my adoption fee has been waived. Check for my location at www.mostlymutts.org after 5pm on Fridays. I'm a big, friendly, strong and playful young dog who is also strikingly handsome! I like all the nice volunteers who come to care for me at the Mostly Mutts shelter, but nothing will beat having a family and home of my own. I’d like a dog savvy family who knows how to properly handle large dogs that can be a little head strong. I should not be allowed on the furniture as it makes me feel a bit like I’m in charge. I say, “Nothing in life is free” which just means that I should expect to work to earn privileges and it’s great for me to use my mind in that way. I got to stay in a temporary foster home recently and there were 5 other large dogs that I ran around playing with and it was a blast! So another playful big friend could be great in my new home! I don't think I like small dogs though. I love rolling around on the carpet and moaning/growling with delight. I do very well with my potty habits on the schedule at the shelter and did well in my temporary home too. I'm however, not a fan of my crate so perhaps I won't need one, but we're not sure since I currently live at the shelter. I'll go back in my very large crate for treats, but I'd love it if I didn't have to. I have good leash manners and have learned ‘sit’ and I’m working on ‘shake’. I'm a little mouthy when I play and do jump a bit, so please be prepared to do some training with me as all dogs need training, especially big guys like me. Fortunately, I'm very treat motivated, so that is really helpful. I'm a higher energy type dog, so I just can't wait to be active with my new family! I'm no couch potato for sure but I am a super sweetie! Older dog savvy kids as I’m large and can be bossy. Energy level: 6–8. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, neutered and my adoption fee is $275.00.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Retriever / Mixed. A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH: 3 years old / 79 lbs. Meet me Saturdays at 1 of our 2 Kennesaw locations from 11-4pm. Check for my location at www.mostlymutts.org after 5pm on Fridays. I am a big, lovable guy who has had a bit of a rough time. When animal control found me, I had an embedded collar in my neck and hematomas on my ears from old, untreated ear infections, as well as skin issues and Heart-worms. My skin and ears have been treated, and I am eating healthy, grain-free food now, which is helping everything improve, and I’ve already been treated for the Heart-worms too! Though I have had a rough start to life, I don't let it get me down! I have a great personality and would be a nice fit for a family who will commit to continuing my training as it seems that I missed out on the normal doggie training that all pups need. I had not spent much time on a leash either, but my leash training is improving everyday as my foster family works with me. They have also taught me to ‘sit’ and report that I’m treat motivated, so that will help with other training too. I like tough chew toys and bones, and I love to play fetch – just have more than one ball handy, as I haven't learned to drop it just yet. My potty manners have been very good, and I keep my crate clean too as well as being well behaved in it, so that's great! I don't care for other dogs or cats so I should be your only pet, but I can walk near other animals fine when wearing a prong collar for my walks. If you distract me by talking to me while we’re on walks whenever dogs, runners, children with loud toys, squirrels, and the like come upon us, that really helps too. When there isn't anything around to grab my attention, I walk pretty nicely on the leash, but always keep a good hold of it. I also love following you around in the home, not in a needy way, but just in an "I'll keep you company way". I am very strong with lots of energy and – though I would not mean to, I could easily knock over children, so best my furever home should have older kids only. Energy level 6-8. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, neutered and my adoption fee is $275.00.

Check for my location at www.mostlymutts.org after 5pm on Fridays. I'm a super sweet and easy natured doggie who loves a good scratch, going for walks, and generally just hanging out with people. My foster mom says I’m a very well behaved dog who is just about perfect! I’m great with kitties, just tell me no once and then I’ll ignore them. In fact, that pretty much goes for anything as I’m very eager to please. I walk very well on a leash, already know basic commands and I learned to use a dog door in just 1 day! I have great potty habits and go right away when you take me out and I haven’t had any accidents in the house, I enjoy running in a yard and am super-fast! Soft toys are my favorite and I’m very engaged and loving towards everyone I meet and am generally a very young 7-year-old girl with lots of playfulness and sweetness in me. I used to get stressed and bark when I was left alone, but once I learned that my family would come back, I started doing well when left. This may happen again in my new home, but my foster mom will be glad to talk give you some tips to help me adjust well. I however wouldn’t mind having a family member who is home more as I do love human companionship! I got to play with some nice kids (ages 3 and 6) and was perfect with them, I just roll on my back and soak up the belly rubs. However, I don’t love being picked up and may nip when someone tries to do that, although now that I’ve lost some weight, it’s much better! I don’t get on furniture uninvited and don’t mind at all if you would like me to stay on the floor. At night I sleep perfectly in a dog bed next to my foster’s bed. I get along fine with other dogs and really don’t pay much attention to them, I just want to be with you! We can do whatever you want… I’m perfectly happy taking adventures like hiking or walking around Marietta Square, or we can just hang out at home, and I’ll lie quietly or chew on a compressed rawhide. I came to Mostly Mutts very overweight and with a lot of skin issues, some of which are gone now and some are slightly on-going, so please ask about those if you are interested in making me a member of your family! I also have an antibiotic sensitivity. Energy level: 4–6. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, spayed and my adoption fee is $275.00.

I came to Mostly Mutts with a spinal injury and 2 broken ribs, so I was unable to walk on my back legs at all. Well, fast forward to now and I can walk and even run around having fun! I’m super friendly and affectionate with people and being held is one of my favorite pastimes. I love to lay in your lap! I’m also all about PLAY! I like to get all the toys out of the toy box and spread them all over the room and then zoom around pouncing and flipping into them. Playing ball outside is always fun for me too. I can be an only child or have a sweet and fun dog to play with in my new home as I love other dogs. I do not require lots of exercise, so you can sit back and watch me play or we can go for walks and play in the yard. I am very flexible. When you want me to be calm, just pick me up and I’ll fall fast asleep in your lap. We are working on potty training. I totally have the peeing part down and only go outside, but do to my injury I still poop sometimes when I start running around. It is really easy to clean up and I am doing better. I must stay slim to protect my back, so not too many treats for me please. I am learning to go upstairs with carpet, but I don’t even try to come down the stairs. The good thing is I am small enough to be picked up and carried up or down stairs. I'm good in my crate or puppy playpen and just a wonderful young pup! I am a very special puppy! Someone probably kicked me as a 6 week old puppy but now life is good and I can’t wait to find my new family. I will bring lots of laughter into the home. You can contact Tammy for more information about me at 770-314-8974. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. LOOKING FOR A QUIET HOME: 7 years old / 35 lbs. I lost my home when my person who was older & blind had to move to a home where I couldn't come along. I was sad & confused but now I'm settled in with my foster family & doing well. I’m looking for an all adult home that is very calm and quiet as that’s what I’m accustomed to. More activity and action makes me nervous/startled and I can shut down a bit or I may snap if I’m afraid or rushed. I'm longing to be a companion again & to give & get love because I'm a sweet & gentle girl. I'm initially very shy, but I warm up with a little time after I feel safe, just give me time to come to you. Keeping me on a leash in the home at first may be helpful too. I’m undergoing some training to help me do well in my crate, and not be protective of my food and toys and it’s going well. I’ve also learned ‘leave it’ to help me not be toy protective. The trainer will be happy to talk to you about these techniques as would my foster family. I get along with both the kitties & dogs in my foster home & do follow other doggie pack-members around a bit, but I really love shadowing my people! I think I would be fine in a home with other pets or as an only dog. I like snuggling with my people or resting at their feet and I’ll bond deeply with them once I’m totally comfortable. I also walk nicely on a leash and ride well in a car. I'm a pretty quiet dog too unless someone comes to the door, then I am in guard dog mode. I have a caretaker nature and try to be supportive when anyone in the home is upset or sad. I'm a little head shy so I'll just duck my head at times, hopefully I'll learn to love head pats, but if not, I still love snuggling! Kids make me nervous and I really haven’t been around kids and don’t want to snap at them, that’s why an all adult home is best for me. I'm working on are my potty training which I've already improved on & learning not to pick things up that aren't mine such as phone chargers & ear buds. Energy level: 4 - 5. I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, spayed and my adoption fee is $275.00. I don’t come to all Saturday adoptions as they are pretty overwhelming for me, but you can check to see if I’ll be at 1 of the 2 Kennesaw locations from 11-4pm by going to www.mostlymutts.org on Fridays after 5 pm. If I’m not on either list please inquire at adopt@mostlymutts.org to set up a time to meet me.

I love all of the volunteers, but I am longing for a loving family and a home of my own. My previous owner kept me in the backyard after having a baby and I did not like that very much. I began to forget my manners and my owners did not have time for that and a new baby. My owners dropped me off at the shelter and that was that. At the shelter, many of the workers spend a lot of time with me and take me on walks or hikes and we always have a great time! However, I do have the slightest of hip issues and sometimes my walks or hikes are shortened. I am house trained and have amazing crate manners! I also really enjoy running and playing with other dogs. Older kids please as I am a bigger guy and could accidentally knock a small human over. Energy level: 5 - 7. I'm current on vaccinations, neutered, and my adoption fee is $125.00. You can meet me any time by either calling or emailing Shiloh Veterinary Hospital. 770-426-6900 or info@shilohveterinaryhospital.com I do not come to Mostly Mutt adoptions. I love meeting new people and get very excited when I do. So excited that I can be a little jumpy but that is because I am still a puppy and we are working really hard at not jumping at the shelter. I am very smart and have learned how to 'sit' and 'stay' already and am working on mastering more! My previous family did not work out because they thought I had behavior issues. But that's not the case, I'm just deaf! I am good with other dogs as I love to run and play and I almost have my potty training down. Older kids please as I am a little mouthy and I may be too energetic for the little ones. I need a family who will be patient with me and one that is open to new forms of training and communicating. I have so much love to give and am so ready to find someone who will love me just as much! I'm quite the catch, if I do say so myself. Energy level: 5 – 7. You can meet me any time by either calling or emailing Shiloh Veterinary Hospital. 770-426-6900 or info@shilohveterinaryhospital.com I do not come to Mostly Mutt adoptions. This is a courtesy posting and Mostly Mutts has no first-hand knowledge of Opie and explicitly disclaims any liability for any situation arising from this private adoption.
