Posted Breed: Chinese Crested-Hairless. Adoption Application link: http://crest-care.net/forms.htm Macon is an 8 year-old male hairless Chinese Crested being fostered in North Carolina. He is an adorable little guy with red furnishings and a strong, stout, sturdy build. He almost looks like he might have some dachshund in him the way his body is shaped. He weighs about 16 pounds and was born in 2007. Macon is current on all vaccines, heartworm negative and neutered. Macon is the father of Milo who is also up for adoption. Although Macon and Milo have been together for quite some time, it is not necessary that they be adopted together. Before Macon came into rescue, he was living outside! He is now an indoor dog and loving it! He has adjusted quite nicely to the house and is totally crate trained. He has not had any accidents inside, but is usually supervised when loose in the house. Macon is a very loving silly little guy who wants nothing more than to be loved. He is a totally laid back, low-energy dog once he integrates into the family. Macon is more of a follower—not a leader. He gets along well with other dogs and looks to other dogs for guidance. When Macon is placed by himself, he becomes rather timid and unsure of himself. He would do well in a household with another dog that could guide him. He does not walk too well on a leash if he is walking by himself, but, again, does much better when he can follow another dog. I do not know how Macon behaves around children, but he would probably do ok with older children, but best with adults. He will at times make sounds that I never heard come out of a dog and totally indescribable. Quite unique indeed! He doesn’t bark much but when he does, you will hear quite a hefty, hearty bark that will definitely warn you of anyone approaching. His red-headed temper rises up when strangers approach. He will bark quite protectively and needs to be strongly supervised when around new people until he adjusts to their presence. Macon loves his food and can be a bit snippy toward other dogs that come a little too close to his bowl. He does not have any food aggression toward people. He’s not too fond of getting baths, but is learning to tolerate them. He is quiet while riding in a car but tends to get motion sickness depending on the length of the ride. He is frightened by thunderstorms and wants to be close to his person for comfort during a storm. When Macon first arrived into foster care, he had a very high prey drive and could not be trusted around cats or other small animals. I am very glad to say that he is overcoming his urge to go after the household cats quite nicely and the cats and he are learning to be in the same room at the same time without incidence. I would, however, still not trust him alone with a cat or small animal without strict supervision. Macon is a wonderful little dog who would greatly benefit from individualized attention, training and love to bring out his full potential as a welcomed family member! He will repay you with loyalty and lots of love. A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Jack Russell Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Kingston, NY
Posted Breed: Chinese Crested-Hairless / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Application link: http://crest-care.net/forms.htm Courtesy Post: Princeton and Pee Wee are a bonded pair who were surrendered to ACCT in Philly in February 2016. These sweet boys are Jack Russell/Chinese Crested mix (which accounts for what was thought to have been hair loss) and they are currently being fostered in the suburbs of Philly. They are neutered, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. This bonded pair gets along with cats and dogs and they love to go on walks (they are great on leash). They are love bugs and enjoy playing and giving kisses and snuggling with humans or each other. In fact, when you see one of them, the other is bound to be very close by! Princeton is 8 years old and is the smaller/shorter of the two. He has more body hair than Pee Wee, with black and white markings on his back. Princeton weighs about 20 pounds and takes phenobarbital for seizure disorder (with medication, he has been seizure free without any issue). Pee Wee is 9 years old and weighs about 21 pounds. He is the taller of the two and has much less body hair than Princeton. These boys have lived their entire lives together so we want them to stay together. There will be a discounted rate for the adoption fee. Please consider adding this dynamic duo to your family! You won't regret it. Breed: Mutt

      Age: Adult
      Location: Kingston, NY
Posted Breed: Chinese Crested-Hairless (short coat). Adoption Application link: http://crest-care.net/forms.htm Courtesy Listing Hello! My name is Mr. Frodo. They tell me I am a hairless mix, but to me, I am just ME! I am 8 years old, I have been neutered, I take Heart Guard every month, and I had my 3 years rabies shot on 3/18/16. I understand some human words like "sit", "wait", "treat", and "kennel". I LOVE LOVE LOVE to go for walks. I get very excited and can hardly contain my joy over the prospect. My current mom isn't as energetic as I would like (she says she's a "Senior Citizen" whatever that means) and her daughter is afraid I will get tangled up between her feet so we don’t get to go out for walks as much as I would like. I would love to live with someone with lots of energy that wants to walk with me! I had a little trouble at the rescue where my current mom adopted me. I was grabbed by my little head and shaken very hard by one of the large dogs there. OW! It gave me seizures and I walked crooked for days and my current mom said she wasn't sure I was going to live through that! It was hard, but I made it fine, although I have some nervousness and other neurological issues. Mostly I just seem to be extra high-strung and "flinchy". I would like to be an only child. I need LOTS of one-on-one attention from a quiet, gentle, patient person who also has the energy to help me walk off my stress and nervous jitters. My current mom REALLY doesn't want to re-home me to just anyone, she wants to be certain we are a perfect match. She said she wanted to chime in on my bio, so I will go now and let her "talk". I hope if you are reading this and thinking we might be a match that you are serious because I am looking for a home where I will be horribly spoiled and relentlessly loved. I am Susan, Mr. Frodo's current mom. I’m not fostering him out until he finds a new home, he'll stay here with me because I want to be sure I get to speak directly to the person who decides he is exactly the fur baby companion they have been searching for. So a little more about Mr. Frodo: He wears male diapers to prevent excessive in-house (fear-based) marking, but he uses the doggie door for other business. He has typical crested dentation and skin issues. He is comical, has silly antics, is very shy with new people and situations but has no fear of thunder or fireworks. He has minimal hair on his tail, feet & head. He loves to cuddle at night and sleeps with me. I have had him since he was a puppy. The decision to re-home him has not been easy, but he does not do well with smaller dogs and becomes extremely food aggressive at times. He needs to walk more to burn off the nervous energy but I am 75 and after having knee replacement am a little unsteady at times. I love Mr. Frodo very much, but the decision has been made that he would have better quality of life in a home where he is the only 'child'. As I said, he is very nervous and he has been tried on several different medications for aggression and hyperactivity without much success. He has had some clicker training and would probably do well with one on one attention with more training. He weighs about 15 pounds. He is very loving and enjoys attention once he gets to know someone and is able to overcome his fear. Before adoption is considered, it is IMPERATIVE that I know that Mr. Frodo is being placed in a home where the family understands the requirements of a special needs pup and even better if they are familiar with the peculiarities of a hairless breed. Please, serious inquiries only. He is not suitable for families with children or other pets. The only reason he is looking to be re-homed is to make his quality of life better as an only fur-child who will be spoiled with extra patience, love and attention. Mr. Frodo will come with all his clothes (he gets cold easily, being hairless), several washable cloth diaper bands (which are held on with velcro and hold disposable incontinence pads) and any special ointments used on his feet for issues typical with the hairless breed. Mr. Frodo is located in AR. If you are interested in adoption Mr. Frodo please send an email to genn@arkansascrystalworks.com Thanks for considering adoption. Website: www.crest-care.net

Posted Breed: Chinese Crested-Hairless (short coat). Adoption Application link: http://crest-care.net/forms.htm Meet Calvin. This little guy is one of the happiest dogs I have ever met. He does a crazy, spastic dance and song when he wakes up in my bed, at feeding time and when I come home. This dance is like every part of his body is moving, while he makes happy noises uncontrollably! He is so much fun. Calvin gets along with the other dogs in my house. Not sure about cats. Loud or sudden noises scare him so I don’t recommend a home with small children. Men also scare him so he needs to be with a woman. He is fine with my grandson who is 13 but I think that is because his voice has not changed. He is not aggressive but will go and hide. Calvin wants to be in my lap every time I sit. He is so cute because he will lay back in my arms so I can hold him like a baby. He is very loving and wants nothing more than to please. His house training is a work in progress. We go out every couple of hours when I’m home. And he is kenneled when I’m gone. That seems to be working right now. He has never peed in his kennel. And Calvin loves to ride in a car. We are working on leash training. He would rather be carried when we are out and about. Calvin is a medium coated hairy hairless. His skin is dry with a few blackheads. He will growl at me if I try to pick at his skin. So I just scrub him in baths with a scrubby. And weighs in at 14.7 lbs. His birthday is 6/14/2011. He is up to date on all his vaccines, on heartworm preventative and neutered. Unfortunately all his teeth had to be removed at his dental. But that doesn’t bother him. He is very food motivated. Calvin is a timid pup so all training has to be done in a positive manner.
