Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed. Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue is an all-volunteer-based Rescue. We have no shelter, so all the dogs in our rescue live in the homes of our fosters until they are adopted. The number of dogs we can rescue is only limited by the number of fosters we have available. Would you be willing to open your heart and home to a dog who needs your help? It takes some time and commitment, but it can be a very rewarding experience to know you helped to save a life. All veterinary and grooming expenses are covered by Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue. If you are interested and would like to learn more, please contact us at info@nebraskanokill.org. Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue needs more fosters, so please add fostering to your sooner, rather than later, bucket list. Thank you!

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). Australian Shepherd - Male 5 years old - 47 lb Fully vetted - Neutured House broken Good with some dogs, no children or cats "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, shine shine!" Well, my name is Shine. And you NEED me. Chances are, you probably don’t know how many times a day you’re near certain death. But I do. And y’all could use some guidance. The thing is, people look at me and they think that because I’m missing my front appendage, I have a bunch of NEEDS. Man, I don’t have needs except for a place to call home, maybe some toys and a nice tall, cool drink at the end of a long day of protecting you! Yeah. I hear the people that pass me by. Some of them call me a “tripod.” Well I’m here to tell you that I’m no TRY-pod. I’m a five year-old Aussie DO-pod. I don’t try stuff, I DO STUFF! I MAKE IT HAPPEN! I run and sit and lay and jump and play just like anybody else! You think missing that leg bothers me? Not in the slightest. What bugs me is when I’m doing my job and you don’t get it! That guy with the big truck that rings the bell and leaves the boxes at the door? Yeah. He’s here to attack every last one of you. Those people walking their dogs along my sidewalk like it ain’t no thing? Well buddy, it IS a thing AND GET OFF MY SIDEWALK. That dog that looks a lot like me when I walk past a darkened window? You KNOW he’s up to no good with a face that handsome. Shoot. This is hard work! Serious business! But truthfully… now come in real close, because I’m about to tell you something I don’t tell just anyone… I’m really not that big of a tough guy. I just want to do a really good job at being the best dog I can be and have you keep me forever. I’m no Allman Brothers Ramblin’ Man. I need a place to lay down roots and sit. Stay. Be at home. I should probably go to a home with older kids or no kids. I love em, but sometimes a guy can get a little confused. I love other dogs but I can’t stand those dang cats. They’re good for chasin’ and nothing more. But hey! What I don’t have in cat patience, I make up for in leash manners! And I’m smart as a whip! Come on. Take a shine to this good ol’ boy (See what I did there?! That’s called WORD PLAY! My name is Shine! ‘Take a SHINE???! GET IT? Told ya I was smart!). I’ll do my best not to let you down. I gotta go for now. The cable guy is here and he’s ALWAYS planning a siege. If you would like to meet Shine, please contact info@nebraskanokill.org Suggested adoption donation: $250.00

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Pit Bull - Male 5 years old - 80 lb Fully vetted - Neutered House trained Good with children, no dogs or cats Hey there! The name is Deuce. You don't know me, but if you like buddies, you probably should. See, I'm a buddy, and in my five years of live, I've come to find I'm a big buddy myself. I love kids, toys, and looking out for my family. But most of all, I love being around people. Let me tell you something, I'm manly to admit, I LOVE ME some cuddles! The thing is, I need someone to help me out because I need a new family now. It would be awesome if YOU would let me come home with you. You could throw me a ball (like in the pictures but make sure its a sturdy one, as I may smoosh it)! I could chase it! We could go for walks and stuff. And when you're away, I'll keep an eye on the place. I promise I won't chew things up. And when you come home, I get happy, lay at your feet, and all that. Ya know, good dog stuff! I consider myself to be a pretty versatile guy. I'll do the kennel thing if you want me to, and can learn anything you have to teach me, but every guy has his limits. No cats for this guy, OK? And I'm a bit of a solitary man. I should probably be someplace where I'm the only pup. So hey, how's about I move in and we be buddies for life! Whaddaya say? Just visit our website, www.nebraskanokill.org and go ahead and take a chance. Fill out an application and make ME your buddy! Oh did I mention, I'm up to date on all my shots, micro chipped (just in case I wander too far from home) and neutered. See, it's a win win for the both of us. If you would like to meet Deuce, please contact info@nebraskanokill.org. Suggested adoption donation: $250.00.

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). All American (Terrier Mix) - Female 7 years - 50 lb Fully vetted - Spayed House and kennel trained Good with children, dogs and cats OK. We only get 60 seconds? Is that some sort of a joke? Whew! Somebody refill my dish because I am NERRR-VOUSSSS. OK, whatever, here goes. So my name is Penny, and I’m totally new to this whole speed dating thing so bear with me. I truly never thought I would end up here. You know, you’re in a committed relationship one minute, and next minute, BLAMMO, here I am, single, middle-aged and totally out of this whole “take me home” game. I don’t even know the rules anymore! Well, it’s not like I’m THAT old or anything, I mean, I’m seven, so I’m not like, decrepit or something, but I’m out of my element kind of. It takes me a minute to warm up to people but I do, I promise. It’s just that I’ve been through some stuff…Ok, I’m rambling. Well, I’m a bright girl if I do say so myself. I’m really friendly, so I’ve got that going for me. And, as you can plainly see, I’m still a looker, and my teeth are in awesome shape. BUT I’M STILL MODEST, OK? Oh my gosh…this is going really badly! Ha! Let me just cut to the chase. In my past relationship, I was all about being outdoors. I’ve even rode a four-wheeler! WILlINGLY! How many girls like me can say that, huh? I love all the sights and smells of being out in the great wide open. But I need someone to look after me. I don’t need a lot. I’m just looking for the stability a long term relationship is supposed to provide. I just need a cozy spot where I can sleep, some good eats and someone who’s totally stoked to see me at the end of a long day. BUT I’M NOT DESPERATE. I’m…flexible. And micro chipped. And fixed too, so no babies for this girl. Not my style anyway. Short people, you know, the young ones, they can make me a little uneasy sometimes, and I’m totally undecided about cats, but I’m willing to give it a shot. So what do you think? I like you. Fill out an app. We could be made for each other! If you would like to meet Penny, please contact info@nebraskanokill.org. Suggested donation adoption: $150.00

      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Flatback German Shepherd 2 years-100 pounds Fully vetted - Neutered House and kenneled trained Good with other dogs and older children I don’t know how to say this except to just come right out and say it. I’m a big, furry, magnificent deal. I mean, my name is PRINCE for crying out loud! They don’t just call people Prince for no reason. You have to be a member of a monarchy, or a guitar god, or a really handsome two-year-old pupper like myself. I can’t play the guitar as of yet (though I’m not ruling it out entirely. I’m more of a drummer myself), but a fun fact about me is that I am a bit of a soccer prodigy. Seriously! Never had one lesson, and I can kick my big blue ball all over the back yard like you wouldn’t believe! Up the fence, down the fence, across the yard- Beckham’s got nothing on me. I’m clearly superior to Dave on account of having double the legs he does, and the advantage of a really powerful name. I don’t doubt that there’s nothing I can’t do once I chill out and get a little direction. I could act really dang regal if I had someone to show me the ropes! It’s just so hard sometimes, having all these awesome puppy ideas and this huge, fuzzy, 100 lb. vehicle to accomplish them with… so maybe it might be a good idea for me to go someplace where I can have the spotlight and not share it with another pup. And maybe my next palace shouldn’t have the really little people inside. I love them, but they’re kind of like speed bumps on the highway of my puppin’ sometimes. I’m going to be work. But think of the payoff! I'll love you harder than you could ever imagine, and hey- with me around, your house will be real palace! I'll make you royalty! rescue
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Is it possible you have a home in need of a dog? Well, Duke is the one for you. Mr. Duke has done amazingly well fitting in with the 2 kids and 2 other dogs at his foster home - things can get pretty loud and crazy around there and he takes everything in stride. He has never had an accident in the house and does fantastic with his kennel - even hangs out in there without prompting. He doesn’t get on the couch or bed, but cuddle if you’d let him, he is so soft - you have to feel to believe it! He loves his ears and jaw scratched, and will quickly offer up his belly for some love too. Other than his grey hairs, you would never guess that he is 11 yrs old. He loves playing with the female dog in the house and gets along just fine with the other male pup. This dog has a HUGE personality. He is constantly rearranging the remotes and socks of the household, loves hanging out in the kitchen while dinner is being made and just enjoys being outside watching and sniffing everything, although he will bark when he’s bored or ready to come inside. Duke of Hazzard is very food driven and has a couple puppy habits (i.e. taking food from the counter and not wanting to come in from outside ) which can be easily managed with consistent training and time. He is very opportunistic when it comes to escaping, so a second barrier would be a great idea or at least precaution with open doors. He would love being in a home with another dog that he could run around with for 3-5 minutes and then sleep for the rest of the day. He gets along get with kids, as he has always been around them, though he is best with school aged children as the littles tend to be a little rough, although he is VERY VERY patient with the toddler in the foster home This lovely boy is ready for his next adventure. If you want a dog who won’t take much to get used to your home and is pretty much move-in ready, fill out an application! If you are interested in meeting Duke, please contact info@nebraskanokill.org. Suggested adoption donation: $150.00
