Posted Breed: Shepherd (short coat). Hi, I’m Beanie Baby! My foster mom and dad sure do think I’m sweet. I’m such a calm lady that loves to be petted and loved! Taking walks around the neighborhood are my favorite. I love spending time in the sunshine in my back yard and I get so excited for treats! Although I’m no longer a puppy at 8 years young, I’ve got a lot of life to live and a TON of love to give!! Give me a chance to bring my joy into your home!

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Shepherd / Pit Bull Terrier. I have heard of a magical place filled with couches, soft beds, stuffies, and people that love you. My friends tell me it is called "home" and something called "my family" will take me there. I watch every day for "my family" but they haven't found me yet. I am hoping you can help me. Can you be "my family" and take me to this "home"? I promise to be a good girl. I will potty outside and play with you every day. I am learning leash manners but I prefer piggyback rides. I love older kiddos that like to run and fetch. If you can't be "my family", will you tell everyone you know about me? Let them know there is a one year old Pit/Shepherd mix named Red Rose looking for her very own home. Thank you for your help, Red Rose

Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Hi there! Rufus here! I'm a 5 yr old boxer mix with gorgeous brindle coloring, and beautiful brown eyes to match, they tell me. Do you love water?? I love water! My foster mom tells me I was a lab in my former life, how I love to romp around with my tennis balls in the pool. I am very smart, I know sit, stay, fetch, crate up, and I am SUPER house trained. I never have an accident in the house. I love to go on runs/walks with my foster parents. I run great with them on a halter, right by their side at all times. Belly rubs are my favorite, and toys, toys, TOYS! I'm dog tolerant with larger dogs, love older kids, no cats please. I'd love to meet you if you'd like to meet me! Ciao for now, Rufus

Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Love was just a word until someone cared enough to show me how amazing it could feel. Locked in a concrete cell in a kill shelter, I had little hope of ever knowing love. Then Unleashed and my foster mom saved me, now I am looking for something I never thought I could have- a forever family of my very own. My name is Roxy and I am a two year old Boxer mix. I have been working hard to get ready for a home of my own, including learning to potty outside. I do great in my crate and have learned to walk gently on a leash. I love my doggy friends and get along great with kids. I can be a little shy until I know that you will be nice to me, and men still seem a little scary to me. I will need a family patient enough to let me get comfortable so I can show off my amazing personality. I love to play and have a quirky, squeaky bark. My favorite things are sleeping with my people and chewing on bones. If you have room in your heart and home for me, please contact Unleashed Pet Rescue. Love, Roxy

Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). HI THERE! Oh, sorry didn't mean to shout at you! I am just super duper excited. Do you know why? Do ya, do ya, do ya? It is cuz I am ready for my furever home! How cool is that? Oh my goodness it is so cool! My name isKitty Cat and I am a one year old pretty Pitty. My name is silly, huh? KittyCat, but I am a dog! Get it? Oh man, my friends at Unleashed crack me up. Anywho, I am working on learning to potty outside. I like other dogs so long as I have a bit of time to get to know them, and they don't mind me being the boss. Older kids are the best, I hope I get to have one if my new family! I want to be the only Kitty Cat in the home, if you know what I mean, those furry felines are way too bossy for me! I love to play and to run and to play some more, oh and I talk like a real people when I get excited! I need some time to warm up to men, since there were some in my past that weren't very nice, but I am such a love bug when I get to know you. Well I gotta run, there's lots and lots to do before I get adopted. Come meet me at Unleashed Pet Rescue, pretty please with sugar on top! XOXO, Kitty Cat

Posted Breed: Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Gray hair? That's not gray hair, it is my frosting. I just come a little sweeter than those young pups. My name is Honey Bunny and I am an eight year old Beagle mix. I am house trained, crate trained and great with dogs/cats. I would do best in a home with older children who know how to love gently. I love to go for walks, but I am happiest when snuggling on the couch by your side. Honestly, I will do just about anything for a good belly rub. If you have room in your heart for a gentle gal like me, then contact Unleashed Pet Rescue. Just remeber, everyone loves puppies but senior dogs love everyone. Love and belly rubs, Honey Bunny **Be sure to check out my Facebook page for more info, photos, and updates!** https://www.facebook.com/pages/Honey-Bunny/1452361201728258?ref=br_rs
