Posted Breed: Newfoundland Dog / Mixed. Willow went missing on 2/14/08. She is microchipped and was outside for 10 minutes. We have never seen her since. We posted flyers and contacted all of the area vet offices. Willow loved people but didn't like cars so if someone took her she didn't jump willingly into their car. She had a red heavy duty collar with tags to our rescue and her rabies tag on it. We live in a rural area but we do have neighbors and no one ever spotted her. We will be keeping her listing active until we know what happened to her...

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Breed: Doberman Pinscher-German Shepherd Dog Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Richmond, MO
Posted Breed: Doberman Pinscher / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (short coat). A very playful young girl with some trust issues. Bonnie is a very smart girl. She has been getting training from Jame with Lewis and Clark Canine Coaching and the trainer said she's extremely intelligent. She learns things amazingly quickly. Bonnie hasn't had the best of life before. If she could speak we could know for sure the cruelties she endured but instead we have to kind of guess based on her actions and the scars she carries. Bonnie's ears look like they were cut. They are not even...it looks like someone used hand scissors and cut around her ear at one time. We have no way to know if that is what happened, or if it was frost bite? or who knows. But she has a lot of trust issues and will roll over if you reach for her collar. She doesn't just roll over, she goes into a fetal position, tucks all her legs up and tries to make her self as small as possible. She is looking for a home willing to help her overcome her past and become the super smart and loyal pet we know she is. Bonnie is GREAT with other dogs and absolutely LOVES to wrestle with other dogs. She also loves loves loves water and thinks a hose and baby pool is the best thing ever. Can you give Bonnie a home for the holidays?? If not...can you please share this posting?? Let's find Bonnie the home she totally deserves. Her adoption fee is half priced this month AND she comes with 3 months of free daycare at A Dog's Fun Playce in Kansas City!

      Breed: Rat Terrier-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Richmond, MO
Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Franklin is estimated to be about 10 years of age. He is a small boy...probably 15 pounds or so. He's a total doll baby with people. Just wants to sit your lap and lean in for hugs. He's very affectionate. Franklin is good with other dogs...but if on a leash, behind a fence, or being 'held back' he'll bark and act ferocious to other dogs. He seems to be housebroken and he's crate trained. He is not destructive to bedding, furniture, etc. Franklin does have some scarring on his head, we don't know what it is from, but it doesn't seem to bother him at all. Franklin's adoption fee is only $75. He's a great little dog and he will make some lucky person a wonderful companion. Franklin has been looking for a forever home for quite awhile. We've added new photos...maybe his people will see his posting now. If you could share his posting on social media sites we'd really appreciate the help. He's such a cuddle bug and deserves to be in his own home.

Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). A senior shepherd mix still full of life! Pixie is around 10 years old. She's very playful and loves her squeak toys. She's very friendly, very good in the house, and such a sweetheart! She's ok with some cats...but some times she chases them so she'd probably be best in a home without cats. She's ok with some dogs. She's great with all people.

She is good with male dogs and a total sweetheart when she knows you. She is a little unsure of new people. When she arrived at KCPP she had some pretty significant hair loss, but look at her now! She is GORGEOUS and so adorably fuzzy! She is located just outside of Kansas City, but we do allow out of state adoptions. Gemma would really appreciate your help in finding her home. Can you share? Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: Richmond, MO
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). A Pit Bull full of love and in need of cuddling Edna is around 9-10 years old. She is a lover with people and good with other dogs. Edna had a sad life before being found by animal control. From what I've been told she was found dragging a chain and tangled in a fence behind an abandoned business. She was emaciated. She hadn't known much kindness and was heartworm positive. She has beaten the odds. She survived her heartworm treatment and is doing good! We had an echocardiogram done on her because our vet was worried about her heart and the results were ok. Her heart is slightly enlarged and she has an enlarged artery but since the worms are gone she won't get any worse. So she's OK! She loves her crate and LOVES food. She is very food motivated. Edna is good with other dogs, but she can be possessive of food and bedding, especially at first, when it comes to other dogs. With people she is just a love bug. She just wants to be fed, cuddled, and given a soft place to sleep.

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: Richmond, MO
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Small adorable pit bull girl Petunia is a sweetheart who needs more work on basic training. She is very willing to please but doesn't know what is expected of her. I believe she was a house dog at one time. She was found as a stray but her nails were painted blue. She had to sit still and allow that...most likely cuddled up on a couch next to her owner. She was never found at the shelter and our rescue ended up pulling her to help make room so that they didn't have to kill as many dogs that week. Petunia has leash aggression issues with other dogs. This is a workable issue, but this is something her new owner needs to be aware of and willing to work with her on.
