Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Laney was turned into us by a concerned citizen. He found Laney but could not find the owner and didn't have the heart to turn her into a kill shelter. Laney can be selective about the dogs she likes to play with. 9/4/2016 Dog For A Day: We took Laney out on Saturday and let her sleep over through Sunday. She was beautifully behaved! She walks well on a leash without excessive pulling. She passed other dogs on the street without barking, pulling, or getting overly excited. We have 2 dogs plus 2 other foster dogs. She played well with our 1 resident dog who is equally matched in size. And I mean played. Running all over the back yard and jumping up on each other in play. She sniffed and wagged her tail at our other resident dog who is a Westie, old, deaf and blind. We did not associate her with the 2 foster dogs we currently have. They did see each other on opposite sides of a glass door, again, without much excitement. No aggressiveness shown. Just tail wagging and interest. We also have 2 cats. She was curious but not aggressive with them either. She loves to lay next to you, roll over and have her belly rubbed. She listens pretty well. Initially she is very excited to see you and jumps up, almost like she's afraid you will leave her. But once she realizes you are there to love her she will sit and let you rub her belly. She puts her head down in sweet submission as you approach her. She loves laying on the bed! She seems to love everyone she meets and is not fearful or aggressive with newcomers in any way. She is a wonderful darling who would make a great, loving and loyal companion. ----------------------------- Dog 4 A Day UPDATE : She was a fairly calm dog and really associated well around people. She liked personal/physical contact with the kids. We took her to the Baldwin Park dog park, but kept her leashed except for a special "small dog" area that had no dogs at the time. We felt that because she hadn't been trained with us that an open leashless environment would not be prudent. She did interact with some dogs, but her excitement level seemed to escalate quickly. Separating the two dogs and sitting quietly with Lainey for a few minutes rubbing her shoulders or a reassuring hand on her side seemed to work well. The return trip from the park pooped her out a bit. She was a nice dog and with consistent training would do well. --------------------------------------------- Laney is a very loving dog, she loves to cuddle and sleep next to you. She also follows you where ever you go! She doesn't like to be alone, even when she goes outside. She just wants to be by your side! Her absolute favorite thing to do is play fetch. When she retrieves the ball she hops and pounces on it, it's adorable to watch.

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Hound / American Bulldog (short coat). Adoption Fee: 125.00. She was living in the woods with her two babies, Natasha and Boris. Darling was a fantastic mom who made sure her babies were taken care of (please view the photo of her and her little girl Natasha below). 12.17.17 Dog 4 a Day Update: We took Bender and Darling to Lake Eola on Saturday to participate in the dog for a day program. They did great! Although they are very timid their behavior changes when they are outside. They walk great and even better when they are together. They did not demonstrate any aggressive behavior towards dogs or humans and they let other humans pet them. We had a wonderful day and we were able to bring my dog and other two dogs with us and they all got along well. I am attaching a couple of pictures although it was difficult to capture more because we had too many dogs and they got distracted. We feel that Bender and Darling have become very bonded. They are both a bit shy upon meeting but come around after time and are very friendly and playful. They both love going to the dog park. They do so much better together and we feel that if they were separated, they would be very upset and would be more scared. She is very shy but sweet. We are trying to introduce her to new people so that she becomes more relaxed when meeting people she doesn't know. She is living with Judy now and is totally housetrained and loving! She is also good with other dogs and enjoys playing with them. She is anxiously awaiting her time to have a forever home and enjoy being loved.

Posted Breed: Boxer / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 150.00. Bender is a sweet boy, very gentle and loving with others. He is a bit shy when first meeting people, so the ideal home for him would be a loving family who can help build his confidence! He enjoys being outside and playing with other dogs. 12.17.17 Dog 4 a Day Update: We took Bender and Darling to Lake Eola on Saturday to participate in the dog for a day program. They did great! They do so much better together and we feel that if they were separated, they would be very upset and would be more scared. Foster update 2/7/17: Bender was fabulous with our Down's Syndrome child. He couldn't have been any more caring with all of us. He does have separation anxiety and would do best with a family who is home most of the day. Having another dog in the home to play with him would make Bender very happy! Dog 4 A Day Update: Bender is such a sweetheart!! He was really well-behaved and mellow all day. We had no problems walking him on the leash. He stayed close to me or went a little ahead to explore most of the time. He was interested in the other dogs at the park and was friendly with all of them. He liked being around children and let them pet him. We went to get food and he was happy to lay down and hang out on the patio with us while we ate. Every time we were in the car he just quietly curled up in the back seat and fell asleep or looked out the window. Overall, he's a very sweet, relaxed dog. If I could have a dog where I lived I would adopt him in a heartbeat! He just needs a loving home!

Posted Breed: American Bulldog (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Cleatus is a beautiful, friendly dog that was found as a stray and surrendered to a high kill shelter. We rescued him and now it is our job to find him the best home ever. He is cratetrained and walks well on a leash. He does not get along with other dogs. We feel he may not like high energy dogs and small dogs. He really needs a calm home where he can relax. He seems to have some arthritis in his elbows and can only go on short walks. Stairs in the home would not be preferred. If you are interested in meeting Cleatus please fill out an adoption application, and once approved an appointment will be set up so you can meet him!

      Breed: Poodle (Miniature)-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Poodle (Miniature) / Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 100.00. We could not say no to this sweet senior, Max, who was owner surrendered to a high kill shelter. H e is a 17 year old dog who really needs a home to relax for the rest of his life. He is on a few different medications that help his heart, as he has a murmur. He goes out with our other dogs and walks very well on a leash, but he does have a tendency to bark a lot. He also has some vision problems, but it does not seem to bother him. He does not require any treatment for his eyes at this time. He has had a dental procedure done, but still has fistulas on his canine teeth. Our vet feels that it would be too much to put him under anesthesia again. He needs a nice, calm home to relax. He is available for adoption and is up to date on all shots. Max knows there is someone out there that would love his company! Please put an application in for Max and he will show you a special kind of love. FOSTER UPDATE: Max has quite a personality! He can bark a lot but he also "talks" or vocalizes. It's almost as if he can't help himself, so no apartment living for him! He is a very good boy, listens well and loves to be outside with his people. He has a surprising amount of energy for his age but also takes lots of naps. He loves a nice comfy dog bed! Sometimes he will "nurse" on a fleece blanket, usually at night. We have other dogs, ranging from 5 pounds to over 50 and he does fine but we do separate them all at mealtime and he eats in his crate. He is like a vacuum when he eats, even his pills! I could see him easily becoming overweight, which would put a strain on his heart, so not too many treats! He does have an interest in toads, snakes, etc. so supervision is a must! Max would love to have a comfy home to spend the rest of his life in, with a person who will give him lots of scratches and take him outside to explore. A fenced yard would be perfect. He is not a big fan of car rides so being in a crate would probably be the best solution. DOG FOR A DAY Outing Report: "I had Max for the Dog 4 a Day Program on Saturday, July 29 and he is a sweet dog. He only barked occasionally at my house for instance when my daughter was leaving. He wouldn't play with any toys and he didn't want to lay on the couch with us but he did enjoy the 3 short walks we took. He walked well on the leash, staying right beside me and didn't pu ll at all. In my house my cat was hiding under the couch and Max could tell he was there. He was very fixated on the couch knowing the cat was there. He didn't try to attack the cat even when the cat hissed him. In fact, he didn't even bark at the cat. I think it was just curiosity. You would never know that Max is 17 years old, he seems and acts much younger."

      Breed: Labrador Retriever-Unknown Mix

      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Minnie and sibling Micky were pulled from a high kill shelter. We were told by the shelter they are shy, but very gentle and they both love attention. They do need some training with walking on a leash and since they are new at our facility we will evaluate them both more and update their web pages. They are both crate trained. FOSTER UPDATE January 2018 Minnie is such a sweetheart. She is a beautiful, happy, friendly dog. She does need time to "warm up" to new people. Once she does, you will get kisses and nudges until you pay her attention! She loves to be petted and she does play ball. She will give the ball back when asked! She will chew on blankets, towels or she will chew on and unstuff dog beds, so needs supervising with these items so that she is not swallowing this type of item. She seldom barks. She has lots of energy and loves to play. What are you waiting for? She is a great dog and would love to find her furever home! She is still very puppyish and I would recommend older kids only. FOSTER UPDATE 11/2017 We have been fostering Minnie for about 10 days now. When we picked her up, it was from the vet, as she had to have one of her back legs amputated. (So no stairs at her new home, please!) Apparently she had an old break which unfortunately snapped again one day. From the moment we picked her up, she has been sweet and full of kisses. She loves to lay on her back, she loves bones and she loves attention. She can be a bit shy with people at first and loud noises sometimes scare her. She sleeps on a comforter on the floor by our bed at night but I think she would love to be on our bed instead! We have 5 other foster dogs, big and small, and she is friendly to all. Sometimes she does not understand their "personal space" and they let her know, but she is learning. She is definitely what I would call a "power chewer". She can make serious marks in a nylabone so kongs or marrow bones are best. She is also still interested in things like shoes, nightlights or pretty much anything in front of her if she wants to chew and does not have something and needs to be supervised! She is an amazing, smart dog and deserves an loving home for the rest of her life!

      Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog / Hound (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Emmie was surrendered to a high kill shelter along with her nine babies. She came to us very underweight. We were told she is shy but very sweet, she is good with other dogs, crate-trained and house-trained. We were advised that if you do have another dog, it would be wise to feed dogs separately and give bones/toys separately. However, she does love the companionship of another dog and would be very happy in a home with another canine buddy~ FOSTER UPDATE Nov. 7th: Emmie learned very quickly from the other dogs and is fully housetrained. She is sweet and loving and loves to be petted. I tried interesting her in a ball but she had zero interest in it. She does like nylabones but I suggest she be separated or in a crate. We brought in a new foster dog yesterday, close to Emmie's size, and she adapted quickly after their introduction. She tries to catch lizards and squirrels but try is the key word! We are still working on the counter surfing (best to not leave her unsupervised if any food out) and also she likes to put her front legs on your lap so we are working on that. She is gentle about it but definitely not the lap dog she thinks she is. Emmie will make a wonderful companion and has lots of love to give. She can be shy and cautious with new people at first. We have found the thundershirt to help with this somewhat but again, with some time and patience, she should do better with this. We have been fostering Emmie for a couple of weeks. She is still learning to let us know that she needs to go out but is pretty much housetrained. She can get a bit anxious in her crate but we have been working with her on that and she eats in her crate and stays in there until we are all done eating. I also put her in there a couple of times a day, as well as other foster dogs and as long as they stay quiet, I give a small treat every few minutes. She is doing better and even goes in the crates on her own to lie down as we leave the doors open all day. She does have some separation anxiety but I do feel it is something that she can get past with patience and time. She also is fearful of storms and terrified of fireworks. We have tried a thunder shirt and today I am trying "calming pills" for the first time. She is wedged under my desk chair and shaking a bit. Again, something she will need some patience with. We have 4 smaller dogs and she is fine with them both inside and outside. We also have a dog close to her size and when that dog was gone for a couple of weeks, Emmie was a bit mopey. She did major zoomies, jumping and running, when she came back! She sleeps on a comforter on the floor next to our bed and has to be reminded once in awhile that she needs to stay on the floor, haha, but she does real well at night. She knows some basic commands and learns quickly. She does need supervision around food as she is interested in counter-surfing but she has made alot of improvement in this area as well.

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Beagle / Hound (short coat). Adoption Fee: $100.00. Beasley needs a one person home, just him and his owner. It may be best to spend a day with Beasley in our program, Dog For a Day. If you are interested in spending some quality time with our sweet boy, please turn in an application, and he would be so happy to go on an adventure with you. Beasley and his family were in the hands of a backyard breeder. They were neglected and in need of being rescued, so one of our volunteers offered to take the litter of their hands and find them a better home. Sometime after being adopted, Beasley was brought back to Pet Rescue by Judy. Due to his past treatment, Beasley would excel in a home with older or no children.

She absolutely loves everyone she meets and is a great companion. She is extremely versatile meaning she will lay inside with you all day or go outside on adventures and be perfectly happy doing either. She is crate trained, house trained and knows all basic commands. She is not destructive in any way. She is getting better on walks, and is learning not to pull as much. ROSE NEEDS TO BE THE ONLY PET IN THE HOME. She DOES NOT like cats. She is AMAZING WITH CHILDREN OVER THE AGE OF 12 , she loves them all. She loves being outside and off leash with a big fenced in area to explore. She comes when called and overall is an easy dog to take care of. She will jump right up in your car when you open the door, but during the car ride she gets a little anxious and starts panting. If you open the windows, it helps her relax a little bit. I also brought her around horses and she doesn't care for them. Please foster or adopt this sweet girl and give her the forever home she deserves! -------------------------------------------------- Hi, my name is Rose, I am a beautiful catahoula. I was surrendered from a high kill shelter where Judy and the amazing staff rescued me from. I have high hopes of getting a second chance at life with a wonderful family and I know Judy and the wonderful staff will help me do that. I am a loving dog but need to be the only dog. I'm not fond of cats either, and for that I am sorry. But I will love all over you. I do best with children over the age of 12. I am a big girl and I am strong so I need an experienced dog parent who is strong. I would prefer a large yard with a high privacy fence where I can explore and roll around and bask in the sun. I am smart and learn quickly.
