A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Please call Carrie (fedwellfarm@yahoo.,com, 602-316-8919 no texts please) so she can coordinate a meet and greet. We usually do met and greets in Tucson on Saturdays. I have never in the 12 years of rescue named a dog after a childhood dog that I had until I met this little girl . Inky is an 8 year old, sweet 35 pound Cattle Dog mix that can't be any cuter, sweet or easier. This sweet girl will be a great dog for an older couple, a busy family or someone who just wants a ton of love. She is very low maintenance, she is happy to watch Animal Planet while her family is gone. She is settled, lower energy and just happy to be loved. She will be with you while you are home, but not in your face demanding attention. She would love a walk, but settle for a hug if you aren't feeling like a walk. Inky is grateful. Please help this girls last years be the best, she may live to 15, so she certainly is isn't in a hurry, but she deserves the best of her life from here on out. 602-316-8919(no texts please)

      Breed: American Foxhound
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: American Foxhound / Beagle (short coat). 7 year old Beagle/Foxhound, Sweet Girl Foxy and Goldie are in fosters homes in South East Arizona. Their foster mom can arrange transport to Tucson for meet and greets on Saturdays (usually). Foxy and Goldie were given up by their owners due to a move. They are NOT terribly attached, but it would be great if they go together. Foxy is a 7 year old Foxhound, likely Beagle mix. She is very sweet and easy. She has a bit of a limp in the hind leg from a previous injury. Nothing can be done to cure it, so we have her on some anti steroidal anti inflammatory to keep her comfortable. She can go for walks, hikes, but just not marathons. Foxy is approximately 60 pounds, a little overweight, but a very happy sweet girl that deserves a wonderful, loving forever home. Foxy gets along with everybody (I don't know about cats). Foxy would even make an apartment dog, she would be happy to watch Animal Planet while her family is at work or school but then love to spend time with her for walks, hikes or any other adventure with her family. Please call for an appointment to meet Foxy 602-316-8919 (no texts please)

Their foster mom can arrange transport to Tucson for meet and greets on Saturdays (usually). Foxy and Goldie were given up by their owners due to a move. They are NOT terribly attached, but it would be great if they go together. Goldie is 7 years old. he is a bit on the overweight side, he weighs in at 75 pounds. It would be to his benefit to lose the weight. A few nice walks and a healthy food should be all it takes, as I believe he was eating very unhealthy in his previous life. Goldie would even make an apartment dog, he would be happy to watch Animal Planet while his family is at work or school but then love to spend time with him for walks, hikes or any other adventure with his family. Goldie can be a bit temperamental on his other dog friends, a meet and greet would be beneficial, but also a new home with patience and love to help him work through any disagreements with his new buddies. He did not like one dog in rescue when he arrived, but with in a few days, they became great buddiesl Please call for an appointment to meet Goldie 602-316-8919 (no texts please)

She was turned into the Maricopa Animal Shelter by an ex wife who said she wasn't good with children. Not sure where that came from, but she is sure great with children here! Dinga is 8 years old, she is used to being in the house, she is a typical hound couch potato. She loves to go outside, she likes walks and she doesn't appear to have any health issues.
