Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). The name's Cash. Not Johnny, just plain Cash. I arrived here after being picked up off of the streets with my buddy Dallas. I am a little timid, but am doing better everyday. I'm glad that I have my friend here with me to help me feel better. I am enjoying the walks and love that we are receiving. I get along well with other dogs, and I like people too, although I am shy, so please be patient with me. I am looking for a quiet home that will help me come out of my shell. I have a lot of love to give! Additional Information: Current on shots.

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Shepherd / Husky / Mixed (long coat). Buster here! I’m a 2.5 year old Shepherd/Husky mix, and I’m looking for my forever family! I am a gorgeous boy, and have some training, too! I had a family, but they were no longer able to care for me, and boy, am I ever glad that I ended up here at the SBACC! I would love to have a family that can give me lots of love and attention, with walks, playing and cuddling, too! I would do best in a home with access to a yard with walls at least 6 feet and lots of companionship. I also do great with cats as long as I have a proper introduction. And I absolutely love bath time and being brushed.

      Harper

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Seal Beach, CA
Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). We rescued Harper along with 5 other dogs from Pinon Hills where she was living on a property with 40 plus other dogs. Our intention was to rescue 16 dogs, but because of their fear and lack of socialization, simply scooping them up was not an option. It took us 2 hours to catch 6. They have never had human interaction, other than with the man living on the property. Harper has been with us for about a month now and is so affectionate and loving. She loves being pet and having her head scratched, and if you stop, she will nudge your hand to continue petting her. She is a recent Mama and won’t be available to go home until her two puppies have been weaned. If you’re interested in adopting Harper, please fill out our adoption application online or at the center. Once we have interviewed and approved your application, we will require multiple visits until we feel she is comfortable enough with you to go home. A home check will be required. We don’t know how Harper is with kids, so older kids are best. Cats: Unknown

I’m a little nervous when I first meet people, and the vet thinks I may have difficulty seeing, so I do need a patient family who understands that I need a little extra time. I promise that I am worth the effort, though! We will be great friends and I will love you forever! Additional Information: Current on shots.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Well howdy partner, I'm Dallas! I'm makin' camp here at the SBACC while they search out my forever home for me. I was found wandering the streets with my buddy Cash, and the nice gentleman brought us here to this fine establishment. I must say that I was quite scared when I came in, but I am starting to warm up to these gentle folks. I especially like to go for my walks, it's such an adventure and there are some darn tootin' mighty fine smells out there! I have my tail up the entire walk. I also am enjoying all of the love and attention that the volunteers are giving me more and more each day. I am a sweet little guy, and I would love to have a quiet and calm home and family to call my own. Additional Information: Current on shots.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Hey there, my name is Timmi. I had a loving owner who passed way, with no other family who could take me in. That made me very sad, especially as I am a senior too. But I now get lots of love from the volunteers here at the Care Center, and I know in my tiny heart that there is someone out there who would love to snuggle with me. I love belly rubs, and I am a fun little guy, see me with my party hat, doesn’t that make you smile? I could make you smile every day if you come and take me home .
