Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Well howdy partner, I'm Dallas! I'm makin' camp here at the SBACC while they search out my forever home for me. I was found wandering the streets with my buddy Cash, and the nice gentleman brought us here to this fine establishment. I must say that I was quite scared when I came in, but I am starting to warm up to these gentle folks. I especially like to go for my walks, it's such an adventure and there are some darn tootin' mighty fine smells out there! I have my tail up the entire walk. I also am enjoying all of the love and attention that the volunteers are giving me more and more each day. I am a sweet little guy, and I would love to have a quiet and calm home and family to call my own. Additional Information: Current on shots.

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (long coat). Maverick is a German Shepherd/ Labrador retriever mix. He came into training due to some resource guarding issues but with some simply management it is easy to control. He would love an active adult family. Maverick needs a family who will be fair but firm with him as he likes to push his limits from time to time like a normal teenager. He is fully obedience trained.

Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Mixed (short coat). Are you ready to meet the newest office dog of the SBACC? Introducing… Smokey! And wow, he is PERFECT. We are not kidding. He does perfect with other dogs (big and small!), loves every single person he meets, loves to play ball, squeak his toys, great on a leash, is potty trained (will let you know when he needs to go out) and will even take the smaller bed over the bigger bed so his tiny office buddies can have it. Smok ey was a frequent visitor to the SBACC before officially becoming ours. He constantly got out of his yard and was brought in by different people every time. And sadly, it would take days for his humans to even come and get him. Smokey loved his family very much, but unfortunately the love wasn’t reciprocated. However, now, Smokey is so so so loved by his SBACC family and we are going to find him the best home ever. One where he is loved, cuddled and kept inside with his family. One where he can go for nice walks around the neighborhood, and maybe even car rides to Main Street. Smokey may be 8 years old, but his new fun filled life is just beginning. Come down to the SBACC to meet him. He will greet you at the door and you’ll be instantly in love!

Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). We’d like to introduce you to one of the cutest doggie couples at Seal Beach Animal Care Center: Joshua and Savanna. But first we have to ask one very important question: Is your heart big enough? Let us explain why we ask this question: First, you will need a heart that’s big enough for a good-sized portion of patience. You’ll need patience to accept the fact that they’re still both a little shy and the most you may get from them at first may by a quick pet on the head before they walk away. But rest assured; they’re just studying you to ensure that you’re a potential friend. Next, you’ll need room for a large measure of understanding. You’ll need to understand the environment that they came from and the fact that they had very limited interaction with humans. These two cuties were living on a property in Pinion Hills with over forty other dogs and only one man where they had to compete for food and shelter. They’ve come a very long way in adjusting to a new life. They’ve had to learn new things such as accepting and giving affection as well as walking on a leash (which they both do very well). You’ll need to understand that although they’re still shy, they’re capable and desirous of a forever home but they will have to warm up on their own terms and timing. Last but not least, (and this will require the most room) you will need room for love. Not only to hold your love for these two, but for the extensive amount of love that these two will give you. As long as you have the patience, understanding and love that these two require; the remaining room in your heart will be completely filled by the love from these two awesome dogs. So once again, we ask: Is your heart big enough? **A home check will be required.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). The name's Cash. Not Johnny, just plain Cash. I arrived here after being picked up off of the streets with my buddy Dallas. I am a little timid, but am doing better everyday. I'm glad that I have my friend here with me to help me feel better. I am enjoying the walks and love that we are receiving. I get along well with other dogs, and I like people too, although I am shy, so please be patient with me. I am looking for a quiet home that will help me come out of my shell. I have a lot of love to give! Additional Information: Current on shots.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Hey there, my name is Timmi. I had a loving owner who passed way, with no other family who could take me in. That made me very sad, especially as I am a senior too. But I now get lots of love from the volunteers here at the Care Center, and I know in my tiny heart that there is someone out there who would love to snuggle with me. I love belly rubs, and I am a fun little guy, see me with my party hat, doesn’t that make you smile? I could make you smile every day if you come and take me home .
