Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Vickie (dvbrooks57@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Logan is a 17 mo. old neutered male who currently weighs 20 lbs. He is a very sweet and loving boy once he gets to know someone, but he is very shy and nervous until then. Logan is housebroken using a dog door and sleeps in a crate with his sister at night. He loves sitting on his foster mom's lap and getting lots of petting. Logan very seldom barks and he has very good house manners. Because of his shy nature, Logan would do best in a home that is not hectic and loud. So we recommend a home with no kids. TH 10/29/15 Adoption: $285 which covers quarantine, shots, worming, food, medical records, spaying/neutering, and an Alabama State Health Certificate. Transport : $120.00 We consider the transport to be of great importance and, as such, take particular care of the dogs during the trip from Alabama. Heather and David are the owners of the transport vehicle; they typically drive the 22 hours accompanied by one or two foster moms. The trip is punctuated by frequent stops so that the dogs can have some leash and relief time, time to stretch those dog legs, a snack and some water. They make every effort to arrive with healthy and minimally stressed dogs.

A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Journey is a year and half old female lab mix that was brought into rescue after a stranger found her with a deep cut on her back possibly from crawling under a barbed wire fence trying to escape from a big pack of dogs chasing her. At first she was a loner and didn't trust other dogs but over time she has relaxed tremendously. Journey adores hanging out in the play yard, playing keep away from you with a toy and visiting the other foster dogs. She is great with everyone, especially children. Journey has turned out to be a great watch dog alerting her foster family if a wild animal is nearby or a stranger is in the driveway. She adores treats and tries her best to give you a look that will melt your resistance. She will give you a hug and enjoys going on walks. Journey is healthy, UTD on her shots and on heartworm prevention meds. 1/28/16 RW As Celebrate Home Dogs, the total fee, which includes adoption and transport, is only $200.00. He plays with toys but doesn't really play with other dogs or even me. He loves being wherever I am and is extremely loyal to me. He's housebroken and has never chewed anything up. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Hi! My name is Cinnamon. I am a 3-4 year old female Chihuahua mix and I weigh only 15-16 lbs. I was a stray, scared and pregnant and all alone. Then animal control picked me up and sent me to my foster family's home. I didn't realize how lucky I was at first! I was so frightened and starving for food and for love. After the birth of my beautiful babies, they discovered that I had a hernia and really big bladder stones! But I cared so much for my babies that, even though I was in a lot of pain, I nursed my babies for the full 6 weeks. That's what a good Mama does. From now on, though, I'll have to have a special diet to make sure the bladder stones don't come back. Then my foster and her family taught me that I shouldn't be afraid of people. And that I can have fun with other dogs. Now, I run and play with the children, and I get along well with the family's cats. Oh, and did I mention that one of my very favorite things to do is curl up on a bed or couch under a blanket and taking long naps? Oh! I was so lucky that animal control brought me to my foster family! They have taught me that life is wonderful! The only thing I need now is my own family. I'd stay here, but my foster mom says that she's been getting me ready to be adopted, and I never, ever want to let her down! Posted Breed: Plott Hound / Mixed (short coat). The man who would become his foster was sitting in the vet's office waiting for his appointment when a woman dragged a dog through the door. She said he was a stray and she was going to have him put down. By the time she and Dodger's foster finished speaking they agreed that his foster would take him home. The woman was thrilled. Upon looking closely at the dog, the man could see that he had some mange; otherwise he looked fine except for being underweight. And so Dodger was named and taken home where, for the last 4 months or so, he has been fed well, his mange has been treated, and his foster found out something quite endearing about him. He wants to be a lap dog! Well, that would be fine, except that this 1 to 1 1/2 year old is a Plott Hound that weighs around 50 pounds! He's a fine boy with a great temperament; he loves to play with the other dogs, especially one named Cookie, and he's just plain nice. Do you what I mean? He's a dog, and he's good at it. He's a really nice dog ! He's crate and house trained. We're not sure he likes cats, so we don't recommend he go to a home with cats. We do recommend that he go to people who don't mind a 50 pound dog on their laps. As we said, he's really good at being a dog, one who loves his people and isn't afraid to show it! Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Her ribs almost pierced her skin; obviously she hadn't eaten or at least eaten well for a very long time. She was a stray; no one missed her or wanted her. Until, that is, her foster found her, and fed her, and named her, and loved her. Now, Fancy Dancer, American Pit Bull Terrier mix, is lovely and healthy, and filled with joy! She is probably between 10 months and a year old, and presently weighs 45 lbs., maturing to the 55 lb. range. Now that she is healthy, Fancy's energy level is on the high side of medium, and she loves playing and walking. She loves all people and gets along very well with her house mates, but she can be a wee bit stubborn, at times choosing not to come when she's called. We think that Fancy Dancer would probably prefer to be the only pet in the house unless the other is a male, equal to her in size and energy level. Although very sweet, loving to cuddle on the couch, she can get carried away in play at times, so we do not want her in a home with small children. Older kids are fine, though! Overall we think that Fancy would enjoy and benefit from obedience classes. In addition to all of her other wonderful traits, she's an intelligent girl who is house and crate trained! Just look at her! It's hard to believe how she looked when her foster found her. No more ribs ready to pierce her skin, no more eyes dulled by hunger. Oh, no! Let us introduce Fancy Dancer, a red and white coated beauty with bright and beautiful amber eyes!
