Posted Breed: Papillon / Mixed (medium coat). Woody is a sweet and lovable boy with the most adorable underbite you've ever seen. Just looking at his 'smile' makes you yourself smile. Woody was rescued from the Wildomar Animal Shelter where he was so scared that he was labeled 'unadoptable'...which is far, far from the truth. Woody was just scared out of his mind at the shelter. The real Woody is just a dream. He is fun and loving and can and will go anywhere with you. He enjoys riding in the car and loves to go on day trips. He is cautious with certain people he meets, yet with others, he is friendly as can be. Woody gets along great with other dogs and currently lives with several in his foster home. Woody is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all of his vaccinations including Rabies. If you are interested in Woody, please email us at greendogfoundation@gmail.com or call us at (951) 609-0765.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Kody

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Lake Elsinore, CA
Posted Breed: Spitz / Pomeranian (long coat). Just look at this Handsome Boy. "Kody" is a precious, mild-mannered, kind and gentle 2 year old Spitz (likely mix). Kody was rescued from the Apple Valley Shelter where he was picked up after running from the fireworks on the 4th of July. Kody's family never came for him. Kody is neutered, microchipped, fully vetted, vaccinated and ready for his FurEver Family..... This boy is a gorgeous fluff ball around 18 lbs. He is quiet, gets along great with other dogs, and walks well on a leash, but he is very scared of loud bangs and noises and acts sometimes like someone has hit him with his food bowl :( So he must go to a home that is quiet and sensitive to his needs around the 4th of July. Cassidy

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Lake Elsinore, CA
Posted Breed: Spaniel / Mixed (medium coat). Cassidy is one of my favorite fosters. She is a sweet and gentle girl who is just a cuddlebug. Although she sleeps in a crate at night, she enjoys getting into bed with me in the morning while I have my coffee. I would love for her to go to a home where she can sleep with her human all night. She is playful and affectionate and her favorite outdoor activity is hunting lizards. She loves walks and also enjoys her food (she could stand to lose a pound :) Cassidy needs to find a home where she will be adored and loved as she should be. Cassidy was rescued from the Riverside Shelter where she was received in a terrible state. The tick infestation was one of the worst they had seen, and due to the intense scratching, she scarred her cornea on her right eye, but this does not affect her vision. In addition to the ticks, she was not spayed and had developed a mammary mass. She also had dewclaws that were hanging...upon rescue, we removed the tumor (it was biopsied malignant; however, margins were clear), the dewclaws and spayed her. The only other thing that could have been done was repairing her cherry eyes, but they are so minimal, we did not want to put her through anything more than what she had already been through. Cassidy is up to date on all of her vaccinations (including rabies), microchipped and spayed. If you are interested in Cassidy, please email us at greendogfoundation@gmail.com or call us at (951) 609-0765.

      Sharky & Sti...

      rescue
      Breed: Chihuahua
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Lake Elsinore, CA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). These two cute little 'brothers' must go together... Sharky and Stingray are 2 adorable and bonded brothers with cute crooked noses who are super tiny at about 4.5 pounds each. Despite their small size, they have gigantic personalities that are also quite distinct. Sharky is a super confident boy who loves to "swim" around his people (his swim is a crawl where he stretches out his hind legs and pulls himself around using his front legs in his excitement to see you). Stingray (or "Stingee") is a very sweet boy who is extremely affectionate after he gets to know you for a couple of days. Stingray also loves to play with toys and other dogs and has an adorable play-bow-hop that he does when he wants to play. Both Sharky and Stingray had their vocal cords removed by their previous owner, but they have their own raspy language that they use to communicate with each other with. Sharky is more vocal and will "bark" if he wants to get your attention. Both little guys tend to snore and reverse sneeze a lot. They are also working on being house-trained, so it's a good idea for them to wear male belly bands around the house. Even though each little guy has his own personality, they get along and follow each other and "check up" on the other one if they think something has happened. These two happy-go-lucky boys are sure to brighten your day and bring lots of smiles! Both boys are up to date on all vaccinations (including Rabies), microchipped, neutered and have had a full anesthetic dental. Our adoption fee for the two is $500 and requires a home check. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Natalie was rescued from the Wildomar Shelter where she was left behind while others in her cell left...She is a very sweet girl who can be very shy at first, but warms up quickly. She is quiet and just wants to be loved. She is very well behaved and never gets into trouble and gets along great with other dogs and although we don't have any cats, I don't foresee her having a problem with cats at all. She is a gentle soul. Nat does have the onset of cataracts and so she is slightly impaired visually but it doesn't seem to stop her at all. She does better being inside than out in bright daylight. She loves her food, so you have to watch keeping food down all the time! Natalie is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations (including Rabies), microchipped and has had a full anesthetic dental and is ready for her forever home. Location: Lake Elsinore, CA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian / Mixed (long coat). This little Polar Bear Pom ended up at Ramona Shelter with an ominous tumor on her face. Not knowing is it was malignant or benign, we knew she had to be saved and given a chance because the shelter would not give her that opportunity. After 2 surgeries and a roller-coaster recovery, the tumor was benign and Muffin was on her way to finding the perfect home! Muffin the Munchkin has the shortest little legs that lend to her name! Watching her do the zooms around the yard is the cutest sight you've ever seen! This sweet and vocal senior loves to eat, sleep and EAT. She does well with other dogs, loves people and telling everyone how she feels. Housebroken, low energy and is happy to be lounging on the couch or in bed watching TV. She is a bit head shy also, so approaching her slowly is recommended.

      Breed: Jack Russell Terrier
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: Lake Elsinore, CA
Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier (short coat). Rico is an energetic, affectionate, smart and playful terrier. Rico loves to play with other dogs (big or small but for some reason prefers big). Rico can be a bit lap possessive of whoever is giving them his full attention but loves all sizes and types of dogs. Rico can get scared if confronted aggressively or handled rough and will react fearfully, so it is best that he not go into a home with small children and best that he is placed with someone experienced with terriers. With someone who loves him and is kind to him, he is definitely your best friend and lover. Rico loves both men and women equally. Rico would do great in obedience training as he is smart and very quick to learn. Rico is up to date on his vaccinations (including rabies), neutered and microchipped. If you are interested in Rico, please email us at greendogfoundation@gmail.com or call (951) 609-0765.

      Breed: Maltese-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Lake Elsinore, CA
Posted Breed: Maltese / Mixed (long coat). Troy is a sometimes sleepy senior but who is also playful, cheerful and good with teens. Troy prefers company (either dog or human), so he would be best in a home where company is there for him all day. Troy loves a warm lap and will playfully bark when he is seeking your attention. Troy is currently sleeping in bed with his foster daddy and prefers that over crating. Troy would do best with someone patient and with older children only as he is a bit frail under all that hair. Troy has a slight luxating patella but it is not severe enough to warrant surgery, but he would do better in a single level home than multi-level. Troy is up to date on all of his vaccinations (including rabies), microchipped and neutered. If you are interested in Troy, please email us at greendogfoundation@gmail.com or call us at (951) 609-0765.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Sunny was one of the saddest cases I've seen at the shelter...dumped by her owner of 8 years because "they didn't have time anymore for her," Sunny sat in the back of the shelter enclosure with her face buried into the corner...refusing to look at you. If you called her name, she would look, hoping to see her owner, and then when she realized it was a stranger, she would again turn into the corner. The shelter deemed her unadoptable because of a lack of socialization. She was rescued by our foundation and once out of the shelter, her gratitude shown through. Sunny is sweet, loving, affectionate, house-trained, loyal, quiet and playful. Sunny is a perfect little girl. Sunny is now spayed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations (including rabies) and has had a full anesthetic dental. From Sunny's Foster Daddy: Sunny is a very sweet girl who loves people. She loves to follow her people around and to get belly rubs. She is very smart and can also be quite the escape artist! She is used to being around other dogs and is also used to being "top dog".
