Posted Breed: Papillon / Mixed. Dixie is full of energy and needs to have a family who loves to spend time with her. She does not really do well with competition! So it would be best if there are no other pets unless they are laid back and will let her be dominant. Dixie is very loving and very protective so her human needs to be sure Dixie understands the rules set for her when a visitor comes over. Dixie is a mix - but I have no idea with what! Her intelligence is definitely Papillon as she is one of the smartest dogs we have had. She learns quickly and want to please. She returns love with great affection and seems so grateful for the love and attention she gets in return. Dixi is crate trained, walks well on a leash although she wants to walk faster than I can keep up! Daily exercise would be wonderful for her. Dixie is pretty good at house training and prefers to go outside - we have not taught her a signal to "go out" but I am sure she will learn one quickly. We love Dixie very much - and admire her strength. We know she needs to have her very own family and be the light in someones life.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Pippa (in GA...

Posted Breed: Papillon / Pomeranian. Pippa is very scared of people. She plays with other dogs with great enthusiasm , inviting them to wrestle and zoom. But she stays as far away from people as she can feel safe perfering to hide under the bookcase or bed. When the house is quiet at night she sneaks out and comes to me for special pats. She is so proud when she does this! and then - like a little bell goes off - she scoots back under the bed. Her teeth and her playful puppy ways suggest that Pippa is closer to 2-3 years old. She would blossom with a quiet adult family who would be able to take the time to help her feel safe. She does need another dog to help her understand people are OK and a fenced yard is a must. Pippa's new family needs to know that she will not greet them happily when they come to visit her. The trauma of her early life has taught her to hide. So great patience and perserverence will be needed to gain her trust. Please don't apply for Pippa unless you have the time and understanding to love her as much as we do. I really believe she can become the shining star she is meant to be with the right family.

      Breed: Papillon
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Marietta, GA
Posted Breed: Papillon. Shiloh's foster Mom says: Shiloh is such a beautiful little girl. I like Shiloh a lot. She is fun and young in comparison to my group. She loves to chase the birds and squirrels in the yard. She is trying to instigate play with foster brother Robbie. She loves to cuddle and give kisses. She is not allowed in my bed because she sometimes gets nervous and pees in my bed. She will revert sometimes and claim things by peeing on them. I believe 2 times in the bed that is what she did was claiming part of my bed as hers and peed to claim it. Another time I think she got nervous and peed when Annabelle looked at her. If there is another dog in her forever household it needs to be a gentle dog who can accept her unfamiliar ways. With that said she is getting more doggie savvy. She is not so upset when dogs smell her or get close to her. She still does not like them to walk over to her but mine do that all the time. She really wants to play with another dog. She likes to tear open toys and loves squeaky toys. (I hate squeaky toys!) I took her to work the other day for a short visit and she hid under a chair the whole time. She is still afraid of new people. She has been bounced around enough so I want someone for her who understands she is different and will take some time. She enjoys life when she feels safe. Shiloh needs some younger dogs that play to be around to get that energy out of her. She had real attacks on a couple of the older dogs that tried to keep her in line, so she should be an only dog or one of a pack of calm even tempered laid back dogs. She has those typical "puppy mill" body issues like she has no idea what her back legs are doing sometimes, they are just sticking out sometimes (ie; not relaxing), used to not want to go in the crate but realized it is all about the food now. She is a very sloppy sitter. Does not feel comfortable sitting on the sofa with me for long, needs to get back on the floor after awhile, I don't know if it is because of the other dogs or she just does not relax. Hope it helps you figure her out. She is a pretty girl that has a good heart just fearful. With the right person she will blossom.

      Renny (in GA...

      rescue
      Breed: Papillon
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Marietta, GA
Posted Breed: Papillon (long coat). Renny is a brave little boy who lost a leg when he was hit by a car. Nobody came to help him and he was taken in to a shelter. A nice lady took him home and had a lot of vetting done, hoping he could become a part of her family. But her other dogs were bigger and just would not accept him into their pack. After a particularly nasty fight, Renny was taken to the vet's to board until help could be found. We got an urgent plea for help at midnight on Sunday night and in another one of Pap 911's rescue efforts, Renny was safe in the Pap 911 family. Renny is a real character! He will bark and growl at other dogs hind feet and when they get tired and turn around and snap or growl at him, he turns around and runs screaming like a banshee; like someone is killing him! As small as he is, the bigger dogs easily get the best of him. For this reason, he needs to be in a one dog family or a home that has a placid laidback female. Renny loves people and does not mind children, but because he is so fragile, he really is not a good companion for most children. He would love to be the constant friend of an older person who likes walks and cuddling. He loves to first walk all over you or play with you in bed, then curl up beside you and sleep. He looks so innocent then; how could you resist that sweet face! Renny always has a bad hair day - his hair is so thick and curly along with the scars under his coat from the car accident and then the dog fights. But it is really beautiful and very full. His tail although short on bone has beautiful 11-12" hair and when he wags it, it goes "tick-tock, tick-tock". Although he naturally has developed some arthritis, he has so much joy and energy! If you are looking for a sweetie to be a one and only and play with and love, then Renny is for you. He is full of energy and loves to get into things, but he will give you many hours of enjoyment and love - he just needs someone of his own, a fenced yard where he is safe and a home where he is loved. Won't you consider Renny to make your home and his life complete?

      Ba'cho (in G...

      Breed: Papillon-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Marietta, GA
Posted Breed: Papillon / Terrier / Mixed. Ba'cho means "little Wolf" named for his light brown eyes. They make him look wild and fierce and that is exactly what he appears to be. He has a furious bark - enough to scare away any intruder. Ba'cho was picked up running up and down the highway in north GA. A very caring woman finally was able to catch him by throwing a towel over him. Although she tried everything to find his owner, no one came forward. A friend recommended rescue and a representative of Pap 911 went and brought him home to the Dog House. Ba'cho probably needs to be the 'only child' of a pretty dog savy family. He is definitely dominant and will not tolerate another dog challenging him. He obviously never learned how to play in a litter. He plays too rough and then the other dog moves away or becomes defensive. I think there is some terrier in his background, because a shrill scream or shreik will cause him to attack. On the other hand, there are many dogs at the Dog House that he plays well with. These would be pretty balanced dogs that don't 'take the bait' of his roughness. People are another matter. He will go into full alert if he feels someone might be a threat. But if the guest is still or ignores him, he jumps on their lap and turns on his back to have his tummy rubbed. Ba'cho is the sweetest cuddler laying his head into your chest like a baby. He loves to sleep beside you. He learns very quickly and is very smart. Because of his unacceptable behavior with some other dogs and our discomfort that it may carry over to humans someday, Ba'cho has spent training time at US Canine for special training for control. This is a specialty training facility that work deeply with dogs to help them become balanced members of a family. His adopter will be welcome to have 'booster ' training there as needed. You can see how unique we feel Ba'cho is. We all love him so much that I have been ready to keep him here at the Dog House forever. I know we can handle him . But after a lot of deep thought and consideration, we know that Ba'cho deserves a home of his own where he is the light of someone's life. He will make you laugh, and probably make you cry. But he will give you such adoration that it makes the extra work worth while. The more exersice he has, the better he behaves. Ba'cho must have a well fenced yard. Because of his quick "fuse" he should not be in a home with children. He is leash trained, crate trained and gives some effort to be house trained. You just have to remember to take him out! We plan to be VERY careful about who gets to add Ba'cho to their family. Visits will need to be made, so the applicant must be within traveling distance of Marietta GA.

      Location: Marietta, GA
Posted Breed: Papillon. Pierre is around 8 years old, but he thinks he is a puppy! After spending a few years chained, and then locked in a room alone, Pierre is now ready to live it up! Pierre is unusually large for a Papillon, weighing in around 20 lbs. He is very high energy- he would be a great fit for someone who likes to go on long runs or hikes every day. Pierre needs a fenced in yard where he can run and play fetch. He loves to play with toys. Pierre is very polite with other animals. He lives with 2 other dogs, 2 cats, 2 ferrets, and a rabbit in his foster home. He tries to play with all of them! Pierre loves going to the dog park. He spends most of his time sniffing everything and covering every inch of the park, but he also enjoys meeting other dogs and sometimes playing with his friends. Pierre is working on issues around being touched. He has to really spend a lot of time getting to know you before he will allow you to touch him. Because of this, Pierre would not be safe in a home with children. He may snap when he is scared. Pierre should be in a home with an experienced dog owner who can provide the structure and training he needs. Pierre can jump very high! He would be a great candidate for agility training. Pierre is working on his house-training skills. He knows some basic commands. Pierre likes to chew on raw bones. He would be a great dog for the right high energy, committed person.

He will not put his head into the water bowl before he sticks his foot in to see how deep the water is! He likes to be near his person but not on a lap. We are still getting to know Max - but like all Papillons we are sure he will make a wonderful family addition.
