    Breed: Plott Hound
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Plott Hound (short coat). Sometimes even the best laid plans go awry. Meet Alfie, formerly known as Bud. He was adopted almost 3 yrs ago to a family whose circumstances have since changed, and so, through no fault of his own, he finds himself in need of a new home. He's a friendly guy who loves other dogs and lived with kids and cats. He's probably about 4-5 yrs old now and a big boy at 80 lbs, although he needs to lose a few (don't we all!). Alfie is housebroken and will make a wonderful new member of someone's family. **BECAUSE OF OUR REQUIREMENT FOR A HOME VISIT, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ADOPT TO HOMES IN THE NORTHERN VA / MARYLAND / DC METRO AREA** We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our website at http://www.muttloverescue.org/application.html OR write to adopt@muttloverescue.org. Dexter

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Plott Hound
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Plott Hound (medium coat). ** Be sure to watch Dexter's videos below to see how well he get's along with his foster siblings** As you can see my Dexter is really confused & can't understand why he hasn't been adopted after all these years with LnF Dog Rescue. He's my BEST boy & yes he is a bit chubby (but he could lose some weight if someone walked him daily) and yes he a mature senior, & yes he does need daily medication for his thyroid condition but his medication is inexpensive, and NO KITTES - BUT other than that he's a perfect loving funny companion!! Please come to see Dex on Saturday at our "Home 4 The Holidays" Adoption Event! Dex is: Constant Companion - Looking for an emotionally secure, mutually satisfying, low maintenance relationship? I am all you need. Let me sit at your feet, walk by your side, and I’ll be your devoted companion forever. **Be sure to watch his video below** Dexter is extra-large at 105 lb. (but he could certainly use losing about 5 lbs or so) purebred Plott Hound. He is all black except for his face which is a unique marble markings and his socks are the same color which is representative the Plott Hound. A very striking gentleman indeed! He is very sweet and has a very soft & gentle heart. He's definitely a bright presence in our lives. He loves all the dogs and everyone he meets. He is even more more handsome in person. Dex has lots of love to give and is looking for that special family who would give him all the love he deserves for the rest of his life. He is just a sweet, goofy boy who loves people, other dogs, BUT NO KITTIES or small animals in the home. He does have thyroid condition and will require medication for the rest of his life but to help him get home LnF Dog Rescue will pay all of his expenses for the rest of his life for his thyroid. Did you say “toys?” Oh I’ve never seen a dog who LOVES toys the way he does! He is a "toy-a-holic" and toys are his life! His favorite place is on my sofa or doggie bed. He has figured out how to get a pillow under his head and just snoozes away. Through no fault of his own, he's been overlooked for several years. It seems that just overnight his eyebrows turned gray & a volunteer mentioned that now he looks like Andy Rooney. I laughed & had to agree! Dexter would be fine if adopted by first time pet parent or someone who hasn’t had a dog in a long time. He’s very easy-going, calm BUT he does love to chase squirrels and cats so he would need a firm hand on the leash when walking. He LOVES to walk & due to the fact that he has a thyroid condition he has gained too much weight & would do well with someone who would be willing to walk him daily or have a dog-walker daily. That would help him get off some of that baby fat!! I'm not supposed to have favorites here but I do. Just like any parent I try not to let them know. Dex is truly my best boy! He has earned the highest honors in my home. My husband Jerry who is less than delighted with the volume of dogs who live in our home also know Dex is our best boy! He follows Jerry around from room to room, even into the bathroom, but he isn't annoying, he just likes "relaxing" with people. He comes and sits down next to you for a pat and a rub, then he settles in to watch TV with us. He is a dear, dear dog who deserves to find his family so he can give all that love to them. Observations from his friend & weekly dog walker Bruno: “Dexter is a delight. He enjoys walking and will run for a while if I let him. Laid back, friendly, gentle." As with all LnF dogs, they live in a foster home with our family, guaranteed to love people with gentle & sound dispositons, get along well with other dogs, are all fully vetted with all their necessary shots, spayed/neutered, microchipped, tested for Heartworm/Lyme (negative), de-wormed, crate & house trained. Thank you for choosing to adopt! A minimum 4 foot high fence is always mandatory – there are NO exceptions to a physical fence & we do not accept any type of electric fence.

    rescue
    Breed: Plott Hound
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Plott Hound. Female, 1-2 years, 30 lbs Katniss is incredibly smart and learns new tricks very quickly! She loves her humans, and prefers to hang out near them. She loves running around the yard and playing with toys or a stuffed bone. She is crate trained and house-trained. For a hound, she's very quiet and doesn't bark or howl. She is very snugly and very passionate about her people. She is super smart and listens very well to commands. Katniss would be happiest as the only dog in her home because she gets over-excited when she sees new dogs. She needs an experienced adopter who has owned dogs before. Katniss has done very well in training. With love and commitment, Katniss will thrive. Rural Dog Rescue wants to set up dogs for success so if you think you might be what Katniss needs, don't hesitate to reach out. We do offer foster-to-adopt when appropriate. We'd love to arrange a meeting with you and Katniss if it's a good fit! Approximate Age: 1-2 years Approximate Weight/Size: 30 lbs I am an UNDERDOG because.... I am a hound mix! Hound breeds are very prominent in the rural south and usually the first to be euthanized at the shelter due to the overpopulation of this breed. Location Saved From: Beaufort County, NC Needs experienced adopter? Yes Current location: DC foster home. Needs a Home With Another Dog?: No - needs a home without a dog Additional info: Katniss came into the shelter as a stray. Adopt me: http://bit.ly/adoptrdr Mission Statement: Forever true to “The Underdog”, Rural Dog Rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of dogs in shelters who are often overlooked for adoption or rescue. We save the dogs who are at most risk of being euthanized: the hounds, the black dogs, the seniors, the sick and the broken. We make a commitment to reserve a minimum of 50% of the dogs we save to The Underdog. Root For The Underdog! Rural Dog Rescue's home base is in Washington, DC. We adopt to the Washington, DC metropolitan area to include Maryland and Northern Virginia. We support several high kill shelters that euthanize in 72 hours and whose kill rate is 70% or higher in rural areas of Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina. Rural Dog Rescue also helps dogs in need in Washington, DC and Maryland. We are 100% volunteer and foster based and no salaries are paid. 100% of your donation and adoption fee goes to helping the dogs and cats of Rural Dog Rescue. Although we try to be as accurate as possible, Rural Dog Rescue cannot guarantee the breed or full-grown adult size of any of the dogs or puppies in its care. Because many of these dogs were found as strays or are the result of irresponsible, unplanned breeding, we do not know the dog's exact background and can only list breed and size by our best educated guess. If exact breed and size are important to you, please consider adopting a dog from a specific breed rescue - We want our dogs to be adopted by people who will love and care for them forever for who they are - no matter what breed and size they turn out to be! All dogs go to their new homes spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots, wormed (although a 2nd worming may be required), started on heart worm and flea and tick preventative and sometimes microchipped. Adoption Application: http://bit.ly/adoptrdr Foster Application: http://bit.ly/rdrfosterapp Adoption Process: In order to adopt, we require an adoption application. After you submit an application, if you pass the screening, we will contact you to schedule a phone interview. We will call your references, including your veterinarian and landlord (when appropriate). We will also conduct a home visit. After these steps are complete, you will be approved to adopt a dog. Please note this process takes 1-2 weeks so applications submitted when you are ready to bring a dog home within that time frame. You can meet our adoptable dogs at events, however, we cannot guarantee that dogs at events do not have pre-approved applicants meeting them there as well, so the application is the best way to start the process. Carson

    rescue
    Breed: Plott Hound
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Plott Hound (short coat). Carson is quite shy at first, but you can win him over quickly with a walk or some yummy food. Once you've gained his trust, he's super sweet and affectionate and loves to be petted and to give kisses. Carson can be playful with other dogs, but due to some guarding issues he would do best as the only dog in his new home. He can get a little rowdy with his toys, but he enjoys a nice snuggle on the couch just as much. Born in 2013, Carson loves to go for walks, and would make an amazing hiking buddy for anyone who loves the great outdoors as much as he does. Carson is part of our Single Pets* program! That means that he is eligible for a free flight home and waived adoption fee! *Single pets do best as the only dog or cat in the home.

    Breed: Plott Hound
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Baby
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Plott Hound (medium coat). Tapestry was surrendered to a shelter because her owners were unable to care for her. She is 4 months old and 24 lbs She is a bit timid but very sweet. She should come out of her shell quickly once she gets into her foster home. Tapestry would love a home with another dog. Tapestry will be making the long trip north sometime around 5/13 so please stop by an upcoming Meet & Greet to find out if Tapestry is the right pup for you! (Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) NOTE: Most puppies do best in the company of an older dog who can teach them "doggy manners," so homes with at least one other dog usually will be given preference in puppy adoptions. Please read Suzanne Clothier's wonderful article, "It Takes a Pack to Raise a Puppy!" PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events, where you can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster. We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit banshockcollars.ca/studies.php and http://www.hollysden.com/say_no_to_shock.htm (scroll down and click on the "Invisible Fencing Systems" link). We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us atAlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com. To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. For Meet & Greet times and locations, visit our home page, where you also will find information on our adoption process and fees. FOSTER FAMILIES ARE LIFESAVERS!! Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives — that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Come to a Meet & Greet and find out if fostering is for you — there's no reward quite like the feeling that you've saved a life ... or two!

    rescue
    Breed: Plott Hound
    Sex: Female Female
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Plott Hound. ANDY Andy is a 5 year old, 45 pound, neutered Black/White Plotthound mix. All vaccines are UTD, Heartworm positive and going through a 6 month, slow kill process. He is microchipped 900164000925796 and taking heartworm and flea/tick preventative year round. Andy’s story is not known but we know it’s not a good one. When rescued at the 11th hour from a shelter in Clinton, Oklahoma, he was extremely emaciated and infested with ticks. Later it was discovered he was heartworm positive. He’s been through so much. Even so, he is full of love for his humans and is somewhat goofy. Andy would do well in a home or ranch/farm with a large yard with lots of room. He would need to be an only pet as it seems he is not fond of other dogs. Again, no idea what happened to him but he deserves a second chance at life. To meet him is to believe in him. Andy came to The Animal Debt Project on 5/13/2016 and is able to find a family. We will continue to cover his heartworm treatment costs. Please visit our website: www.theanimaldebtproject.com to view additional available dogs.
