Posted Breed: Pointer / Mixed (short coat). Elvis is very playful and friendly. He is good with kids but has a lot of energy so should be with ones that are not too young. He may knock them over. He still has a huge amount of puppy energy. He gets along with other dogs, if another dog is reactive to him he will react but he does amazing with other friendly dogs. He is learning to walk next to us on a leash, he does pull quite a bit but is getting better. He is in a crate at night and during the day while we are gone, he doesn't mind being in there and sleeps all night. He really loves chew toys too. He does need to be reminded to go outside for potty, but when he starts pacing in front of you its a sign that he needs to go out. He knows basic commands. He listens very well when you have treats, he would do well with advanced training too! Elvis is a goofy pup but is a ton of fun to foster. He would do very well in a home with a fun dog that will play with him or he could hang alone. Elvis is really worth meeting!! Elvis's adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive,(seasonal) heartworm preventive (seasonal) pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Adoption fee: $325.00

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Pug / Beagle / Mixed (short coat). I am a sweet girl. I used to live in a home with a family, but unfortunately they had to give me up. I do get along with other dogs, but I have not yet met a cat. I can be scared on first meet of new people, so I really don't know how I feel about kids either. I would like to find a nice quiet home that is willing to work with me on my insecurities and help me become the dog I know I can be. My adoption fee has been lowered accordingly so my new family can enroll in training and help me blossom. Nikki's adoption fee includes: DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, Rabies vaccination, de-wormer, flea and tick preventative, heartworm preventative, pre-paid microchip, spay, 4DX and a full veterinary exam: $265.00

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Hank is a fun loving, lab mix that loves to cuddle, is kind and rarely barks. He loves chew toys, playing tug o war, and playing fetch with a ball. He won't give the ball back because he likes it when you chase him. Hank has lots of energy and would benefit having a young brother or sister to play with. He loves the dog park and does excellent with other dogs, and children. Cats unknown. He knows basic commands and is happy to comply as long as there are treats around. He currently lives with two other labs and stays in a kennel when no one is home. He is potty trained and will use the doggy door to do his business. He will walk okay on a leash but would rather run. He's a quick learner and motivated to please his owner. Hank's adoption fee includes: DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, Rabies vaccination, de-wormer, flea and tick preventative, heartworm preventative, pre-paid microchip, neuter, 4DX and a full veterinary exam: $425.00

Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). I am a very shy girl. I get along well with the other dogs at my foster home. I love to run, play, and wrestle with them. I love stuffed animals and chew toys. I am learning to catch the ball but I won’t bring it back to my foster mom yet as I am still learning about trusting humans. I will eat food out of my foster mom’s hand but do not like being touched yet. I know to go into my kennel when she tells me to “kennel-up”. I am crate trained and I feel safe in my crate. I like to chew on bones in my crate to keep me happy and busy. I also like to lay around the house and relax. I will need a yard with a fence and hopefully another dog to run and play with to teach me how to act like a secure dog. I do not like my leash yet so I have not been on any walks. I am very loving and would love a very, very patient human to continue to teach me that it feels good to be loved by people. I have learned to accept treats from other people which makes me realize they are my friends. Alyssa's adoption fee includes: DHPP vaccination to age, Bordetella vaccination, Rabies vaccination, de-wormer, flea and tick preventative, heartworm preventative, pre-paid microchip, spay, and a full veterinary exam: $425.00

      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Max is a fun loving, energetic, and well-mannered dog. Max loves meeting new people and is friendly with everyone. He is housebroken, crate trained, walks well on a leash, and knows basic commands such as sit, stay, come, and down. He is gentle and patient with our kids (11 months and 7 years). Max loves being around his people so much that he gets a little anxious if left alone for long periods of time in a kennel. However, Max does just fine when left alone with the company of other dogs. He rarely barks but will whine and sometimes howl if left alone for too long. Max is energetic and playful and would love a yard to run and play fetch in or an active family dedicated to giving him plenty of exercise. Max enjoys going for long walks/jogs, playing tug-of-war, chewing his toys, sunning himself on the deck, and snuggling with his foster family. Max would love to go camping and hiking! Max is good with all the dogs he has met but prefers to be properly introduced. Overall, Max is a well-behaved, friendly, playful, even tempered, and loving dog who just wants to please his people! Adoption fee includes: full veterinary exam, neuter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, Distemper combo vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm/tick disease testing, flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Lola

      rescue
      Breed: Dachshund-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Meet Lola! Lola came into rescue with her puppies as a stray. Lola is very unsure of what is going on. She will need a very understanding and patient family without children willing to work with her fears. Lola is very sweet but very scared of people. She seems to warm up to women more then men and has made an amazing bond with her foster mom, but it takes awhile for her to show signs of being comfortable. Lola strives best with another dog in the house. Other dogs help her come out of her shell and helps her build her confidence. Lola loves other dogs and it will help her learn to trust humans better by learning from the other dog in the home and to learn that people are friendly and not scary. When Lola is scared she reacts by running and hiding and trying to bury herself in a corner. She is scared to be touched if she doesn't know you and doesn't like to be held. Lola is working on potty training and is doing very good! It takes some coaxing to get her outside, but once she is, she will go potty. She has done very well with going to the bathroom outside and hasn't had an accident in her foster home in quite awhile. This is huge progress for her. Lola likes to spend her time lounging on the couch on her own. She isn't much of a cuddler but will curl up by your legs if you're laying on the couch next to her. Lola would not do well in a home with a lot of activity and loud noises. Children and new people make her very nervous and scared. Lola is very sweet and quiet. She needs a home that is willing to help build her confidence which she is extremely lacking in. The ideal home for Lola would be a quiet home with low activity and understanding that she has fears of people but with another animal companion that will help her come out of her shell a ton. In her foster home she has shown much improvement over the last few months, but still struggles with the unknown. When Lola is frightened she has never shown any aggression, she has the flight response and wants to run as far away as possible and almost wants to be invisible. Lola is kennel trained and will need to be kenneled when no one is home. She does great sleeping in her fosters bed at night and will cuddle by your legs. But when left alone during the day she has anxiety and has started to become destructive. She does great in her kennel and doesn't make a sound. Lola is not leash trained and is fearful of them. She will try to escape and chew through the leash. Because of this, Lola requires a fully fenced in yard. Lola is a tougher case and really needs someone who wants to work with her. Despite Lola's quirks, she is the sweetest girl and once she gets to know you, she becomes your little shadow. Lola's adoption fee includes: Rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, spay, flea and tick preventive (seasonal), heartworm preventive (while in rescue), pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Adoption fee:$285.00

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). This is Bowser (Titan) he is a brindle boy that is good with other dogs, cats and older kids. He needs an owner or foster that is the alpha and will set rules for him while in the home because his current owners have reported that he has become protective of his home when strangers come over. This behavior is easily rectified with set boundaries and aan adopter willing to be the leader at all times. He did NOT behave this way until he became comfortable in the home and was allowed to be alpha. Bowser doesn't chew anything around the house that isn't his and he is entirely housetrained. He loves walks, would like to meet every dog that he sees so can be a bit of a puller on occasion. He is great with other dogs after a short introduction - he gets very excited to meet new pups! He is a huge cuddler and loves to go for car rides! He has done really well with the kids in his current foster home. Bowser's adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive,(seasonal) heartworm preventive (seasonal) pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. My perfect family: One with strength and experience with dogs who need strong leaders. I can live with some dogs but not all of them. I would love a home by myself if possible. However with the right experienced owner who knows the intricacies of my breed I can be fine with other dogs.
