Posted Breed: Pointer / Mixed (short coat). Elvis is very playful and friendly. He is good with kids but has a lot of energy so should be with ones that are not too young. He may knock them over. He still has a huge amount of puppy energy. He gets along with other dogs, if another dog is reactive to him he will react but he does amazing with other friendly dogs. He is learning to walk next to us on a leash, he does pull quite a bit but is getting better. He is in a crate at night and during the day while we are gone, he doesn't mind being in there and sleeps all night. He really loves chew toys too. He does need to be reminded to go outside for potty, but when he starts pacing in front of you its a sign that he needs to go out. He knows basic commands. He listens very well when you have treats, he would do well with advanced training too! Elvis is a goofy pup but is a ton of fun to foster. He would do very well in a home with a fun dog that will play with him or he could hang alone. Elvis is really worth meeting!! Elvis's adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive,(seasonal) heartworm preventive (seasonal) pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Adoption fee: $325.00

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Brooklyn Center, MN
Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Sky is a beautiful 2 1/2 year old girl. She came to us a little unsure and took a while to warm up to us. Now she is a very mellow dog who spends most of her time looking out the window in a hut for critters to chase (and sometimes catch!). She has a very strong prey drive and will not do well with cats because she thinks they look tasty. She loves to have her belly rubbed and wants to always be by my side. She almost never barks and does very well on walks. She kennels easily and will wait to eat until she is told. She would probably be best in a house without other dogs, but she enjoys the neighbor dogs through the fence. Although, she may be slow to warm up, she can get pretty goofy running around the yard and playing once she trusts you. Sky's adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, spay, flea and tick preventive,(seasonal) heartworm preventive (seasonal) pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). My name is Lucas and I'm proof that even after being abused, dogs can still love people. I'm not sure when I was born, but I'd guess it was about a year ago. I'm house trained and can spend time in my crate without making noise, but I'd rather curl up beside you on the couch. I love everybody I meet. I get along with other dogs, but haven't been around any cats. I leave the resident dog alone, but the dog next door comes over and we romp around like crazy kids. I know how to walk nice on a leash, but get a little scared when those big trucks drive by me. I know how to take treats nicely, without scaring anyone who will give me one. The treat I really want is a FUR-ever home where I'll be loved! I love kids as they are the best to snuggle with. If you leave me home alone not in my kennel I like to get into mischief like moving your shoes and slippers. My only flaw is when I am out walking I want to meet every dog on a walk and will pull like crazy to go meet them. My foster dad is good about correcting me but I still need some training on this. I have not met a person or dog I have not liked. Lucas's adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive,(seasonal) heartworm preventive (seasonal) pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female

      Location: Brooklyn Center, MN
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). My name is Mimi and I am a beautiful ChiWeenie. I am over the age of two and am fully house trained. I need a quiet house with not a lot of coming and going because I am nervous and afraid around strangers and bark - not just a little. I will scare people off! However, once I get used to people, I am a huge cuddler. It does take a few visits for me to be attached though. The fastest way to gain my friendship is giving me awesome treats - that has been proven to work! I love snuggling under a blanket, so if you can't find me, it's likely that I'm rolled up in blanket. I am crate trained and sometimes do sleep in a crate. I sleep with my foster parent when she is home though, and that is my favorite! I love to play with other dogs or humans! I love to chew on bones and play with toys. My most favorite though is to cuddle with my humans, especially when they are reading or watching TV! I came to my foster home with babies in my belly and I had five little puppies. Now that they've all found their forever homes, I am ready for my forever home! Please remember I need someone with patience because I am afraid of strangers and will bark at you at first. But once I have gotten to know you, I will be forever devoted to you! Mimi's adoption fee includes: rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, spay, flea and tick preventive, heartworm preventive, pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam. Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. My perfect family: One with strength and experience with dogs who need strong leaders. I can live with some dogs but not all of them. I would love a home by myself if possible. However with the right experienced owner who knows the intricacies of my breed I can be fine with other dogs. Hobbies: Barking at things and whomever! I do like a rope toy from time to time. My favorite thing is to lay in the sun and chill! Commands/Tricks: Sit and laydown are all that I really need. Posted Breed: Fox Terrier / Mixed. My name is Rocky!! I am about 3 years old. I love people, dogs, I love kids but I get over stimulated, so I would do best with a home with much older kids or no kids. I am a playful pup and enjoy playing with toys and catch me. My foster mom loves how happy I am all the time, when she comes home I come to her with a smile and wag my tail. I was born in a shelter in the south and lives my whole life there until my foster mom brought me up here. I like the sound of that. I love my kennel and do so well in there. I am almost 100% house broken but for the life of me I have not figured out how to ask to go out; so my foster mom lets me out about every 2 hours, but in my kennel I never make a mess. I am still have a bit pup in me so sometimes I still chew on things I am not suppose to, but my foster mom is on me and I am learning. I love walks and I walk so well on a leash. I do better in a home with other dogs that I can follow their lead. I am very trainable and learning fairly quickly; I have even learned down. All my foster bother both 4 legged and 2 I love. My foster mom says since I have been living with her for a while it will take me awhile to get us to a new home. My foster mom says I am very sweet and gentle and she scratches my ears and boy do I love that. I hope I find my forever home soon !!! Rocky’s adoption fee includes: Rabies vaccination, DHPP vaccination, bordetella vaccination, de-wormer, 4DX heartworm/tick disease test, neuter, flea and tick preventive, heartworm preventive, pre-paid micro-chip, and a full veterinary exam.
