More About Pomeranian Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Pomeranian
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian (long coat). Bitsy came to us in April, 2017 from a local shelter. She was said to be tossed out of a car. Her hair was matted, ears infected along with bad teeth and she was obese. Since coming into rescue she has had her dental. She only has 5 teeth left. Had to have all her hair shaved due to the matts. As of July, 2017 she has lost 3 pounds so far, now down to around 11 pounds and still dieting. She is so happy now. She will run and bark along with the other dogs. Just don’t let a bigger one bump into her. She will let them know to settle down. She still has a large hernia on her belly that the vet was unable to fix, but it does not seem to bother her. She may have the start of Cushings so she will require regular vet visits. She loves to sleep in bed with you and cuddle. She doesn’t really interact with the other dogs to play. She loves people and to get her butt scratched. She does have issues with frequent wetting and does use potty pads but does not always hit them. Always goes outside for bowel movements. She will watch your face the whole time while walking backwards hoping you are going into the kitchen to feed her. So one does have to be careful not to trip over her. She is just a doll, will put many smiles on your face. She needs a special person that will be able to love her the way she is. In foster care in Columbus, OH. Bitsy is eligible for our Senior to Senior program - Approved Adopters, Age 65 and older, will receive $100 off adoption fee towards adoption of any dog age 7 & older. Libbi

      rescue
      Breed: Pomeranian
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian (long coat). Our tripod Libbi is currently recovering from knee surgery. Although she is cleared of activity restrictions inside at this point, she does still have some outdoor restrictions. She is a diva that loves attention, but also does well hanging out on her own in a pen. She will require a fenced in yard, a family with no children and only one or two other small pets. She is very active and would love to run and run once she is cleared of all restrictions. She is mostly a very sweet dog that enjoys being the center of attention and will let you know when she needs to be pet (which is all the time that you are around her). She doesn't particularly enjoy being held and will try to jump out of her arms if she sees a nearby couch or rug that she could be on, but will stay in your lap when she's tired (which is rare). She can display some undesirable behaviors when she doesn't get her way, however a stern no solves the problem in most situations. Libbi does not do well in a car so a close adopter is preferred and it is hard for her to walk on wood/tile floor because of her missing leg so some carpetted areas are a must. Owner surrender – couldn’t care for. In foster care in Columbus, OH. Check out Libbi's album on our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1302775949791162

      Breed: Pomeranian
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian. Paddington has diabetes which is being managed by daily insulin injections. The meds are cheap so not a financial issue right now. He is super adorable. He has a weird lion cut and his hair is not growing back, so it just adds to his cuteness. He likes to snuggle next to you during the day and also at night. He gets all perky when it is food time as he loves to eat. He is fine with other dogs, doesn't really interact with them & doesn't play with toys. Paddington came to us from a shelter in GA where he had been found as a stray. Check out Paddington's album on our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1438127306256025

      Breed: Pomeranian
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian (long coat). Leo is an approximately 6 year old stray from an OH dog shelter. Leo is very affectionate and showers the older children in his foster home with kisses. His foster mom says he is quite silly and enjoys playing with toys, but doesn't like to share. His adopter should be someone who enjoys taking walks as Leo would rather go on a walk than hang out in a fenced in back yard. Leo keeps to himself and wouldn't mind being an only dog, but also gets along with other dogs his size. He does not seem to like large dogs or the cats in his foster home. He does not like to be picked up, but does enjoy the company of his foster family. Despite consulting with our veterinarian and starting a joint supplement and anti-inflammatory possible arthritis in his back, Leo will growl, spin and attack his back side when he is up on his hind legs and comes down or when you put him down. It very well may be a normal behavior for him since the medications did not help. Check out Leo's album on our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1249386811796743

      Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Skid is a Stunning brindle colored Chi x . Update! Skid is now totally housebroken and very social with women. He has warmed up to his foster dad with time, so he can be comfortable around men given time to get used to them. He was surrendered to COPR because his previous owner had too many dogs and was unable to care for them all. He is very nervous and scared around new people, it just takes him some time to warm up. He was not socialized at all in his previous home. He would do best in a home with another confident, friendly dog. Dogs seem to comfort him which isn't a surprise as his previous owner had a LOT of dogs and he had very little contact with humans. Comments from his foster Mom - Skid came to our family needing time and patience to begin trusting people again. Initially so timid he was afraid to be touched, he has gained confidence and has really starting coming out of his shell. Once he warms up, he is a loyal and affectionate companion that is happy to be curled up next to his person. Skid would love to meet a family that will understand his unique disposition and allow him the time to get comfortable! Check out Skid's album on our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1003414216394005.1073742252.203914489677319&type=3
