Posted Breed: Pomeranian (medium coat). Peyton and Riley go together like peas and carrots and stick together like two peas in a pod!! These two have been together their entire lives and may even be father and daughter. They are very much bonded and must be adopted together. We rushed in to rescue these precious Pommys when their owner posted them on Craigslist with the possibility of Peyton being pregnant, as we didn't want them to fall into the wrong hands. A month later Peyton went into heat and we couldn't be more happier that she wasn't subjected to bearing another litter of pups. A HOME WITHOUT YOUNG CHILDREN/GRANDCHILDREN IS REQUIRED TO ADOPT PEYTON AND RILEY. NO EXCEPTIONS. Both have the sweetest dispositions, but were obviously not socialized or cared for much in their previous home. They need a quiet home and someone willing to help them work through their fears of this world. It's very easy to see that they both want to break free of the mental anguish that binds them, they just need that patient, caring person to get them over the hurdle. Peyton is approx. 4 years old and weighs 8 pounds while Riley is approx. 5 years old and weighs 12 lbs. Both are kind, gentle and very quiet; however, Peyton does get very excited when you first come home and will bark for a few minutes to let you know how happy she is to see you. Peyton is afraid of steps and will need carried up/down while Riley does them like a pro. Both love the outdoors and a quiet, corner to lay in when indoors. They have come so far with housetraining, but still require patience and consistency. Riley was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease when a disc ruptured in his middle back. This was surgically corrected and requires no further attention. He has narrowed disc spaces throughout his spine and would do best in a ranch home and "scooped" up when intending to hold him, rather than being picked up under his chest. Peyton and Riley are both crate trained, current on vaccines (rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordatella), spayed and neutered, microchipped, and have had bloodwork, fecal and heartworm tests, and dentals. Riley has also seen a board-certified neurologist and has been MRI'd from head to toe with two spinal taps. To adopt these special Pommys, submit on online application at http://PawsitivelyPom.rescuegroups.org. Their adoption fee is $200/each (discounted to $150/each for senior citizens 65+).

More About Pomeranian Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Truffle

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Pomeranian
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Harrisburg, PA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian (medium coat). Truffle is a 10-year-old male Pomeranian and weighs 12 pounds. Recently, he developed diabetes, but was quickly regulated with insulin injections every 12 hours. He lived with his original owners his entire life and came to us after their divorce. He knows quite a few commands and loves to turn in circles for treats. Truffle is looking for a human companion to call his own! Truffle is completely housetrained as long as he is kept on a schedule or has access to a doggy door. He loves to go for walks, car rides, and outdoor activities, such as hiking, fishing, or just every day errands. We envision Truffle with a single man or woman who is looking for a loyal friend. He will follow you everywhere and wait by the door for you. Truff does have a few quirks that are easily manageable: he can be toy aggressive with other dogs, but that seemed to diminish after the first week or two and easily corrected; he's quickly learned that grooming is fun and enjoys being bathed and brushed; he will bolt out the door if given the chance, but a firm "sit and stay" command does the trick. Truffle also has an issue with large objects like assistive walkers or vacuums moving in front of him and he will move to bite the object, but not the person. He looks for guidance and loves to please. We would love to see Truffle in a home without young children or elderly adults and with a fenced yard. Truffle is neutered, up-to-date on rabies, parvo/distemper, and bordatella vaccines, microchipped, has been dewormed, fecal and heartworm/lyme/erlichia/ and anaplasmosis tested, and has been started on monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption donation is $250. If you are interested in adopting Truffle, please visit our website at PomPaws.org for an application.

      Breed: Pomeranian
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Harrisburg, PA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian (medium coat). Arf! Arf! My name is ChaChi and as you can see I am blind. It's okay though, my diabetes caused my blindness, but I get around just fine! I weigh 13 pounds and am about 6 years old so I have lots of love left to give. In fact, I am a total lover and snuggling is my favorite thing in the whole world! I need insulin injections twice a day and I am a good boy for my shot. I love my food and dance for treats. My house training is coming along, but I just had a bladder stone removed so my bladder does leak sometimes. This is an easy fix by letting me sport around my fashionable belly band. I am looking for a home that will carry me where I need to go and snuggle me all night long. I am pretty good at steps, but it takes me a few days to realize where everything is, but once I do I can get anywhere I want to go. I can be a little grumpy when other dogs try to invade my snuggle time. I give a little growl and that usually scares those other pesky poms away so I can have you all to myself. Don't you worry though, I will only growl and never go past that point. I do go in my crate willingly to eat or for a treat. I can walk on a leash for you as long as you encourage me with your voice and make sure I don't bump into things. I just want a family that will love me and give me the best life possible. Won't you be my forever family? To adopt ChaChi, please submit an application at PomPaws.org. His $250 adoption fee ($150 for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordatella) heartworm/lyme test, microchip, blood work, cystotomy, diabetic supplies, dental cleaning, and all the love you can handle.

Posted Breed: Pomeranian (long coat). We are pleased to introduce our big beautiful boy, Frankie! This guy is the best dog you could ever ask for. Unfortunately, Frankie does suffer from diabetes so he needs insulin injections twice a day. He may only be 6, but he has the failing kidneys of an old man. Due to his chronic kidney failure, Frankie is looking for a home that will cherish him for the limited time he has left. Frankie is a laid back Pom that weighs 16 pounds. He is great with other pets in the home, loves children, and loves to snuggle! This guy is the definition of a love bug. Frankie requires a home that is willing to administer subcutaneous fluids 2-3 times a week as well as keep his diabetes under control with insulin. We know it is a long shot, but Frankie deserves a quiet home of his own to be loved on and cared for during this time. Don't let his diagnosis fool you either because he is full of life. He carries around his toys, runs and plays in the yard, and just wants attention. Won't you give a dying dog the best life possible for the rest of his days? To adopt Frankie, please submit an application at PomPaws.org. His $250 adoption fee ($150 for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordatella), heartworm/lyme test, microchip, blood work, diabetic supplies, subcutaneous fluid supplies, and all the love you can handle.

Posted Breed: Pomeranian (medium coat). Izzy is an itty bitty sweet little girl that found herself in rescue after her owners took her to a shelter because they could not treat her collapsing trachea. Izzy is a 4 pound 9 year old sweetie that just wants to be with her human. We are working on her house training so she does need frequent potty breaks to avoid any accidents. Izzy walks well on a leash, is crate trained, and loves to snuggle in bed. This little lady is a show stopper with her beauty and sweet personality! Izzy is a healthy pommy, but has been cursed with the collapsing trachea. Her trachea issue is severe and will need continued medicinal treatment to keep the cough under control. Izzy's new family must understand that the medicine to treat her cough can become costly as well as the frequent vet visits that will be required to monitor her coughing. We are currently working on getting her cough under control and the medicine we are currently using is helping. To adopt Izzy, please submit an application at PomPaws.org. Her $250 adoption fee ($150 for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordatella), heartworm/lyme test, microchip, dental cleaning, and all the love you can handle.

      Breed: Pomeranian
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: Harrisburg, PA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian (medium coat). Eli is a handsome 8-9 year old, 11-pound Pomeranian. He was picked up as a stray by a local shelter and transferred to our care with a tail injury. It was determined that he got his tail caught in something while he was out running on his own and he did what any animal would do to get free…he broke it. Fortunately for him, the break did not sever the blood supply and he was able to keep his tail. Unfortunately, his tail is paralyzed for life and will always hang straight down. We feel that he likely has bits of sensations as you will catch him chasing his tail from time to time. He has full control of his bladder and is 100% house trained. He has 99% control over his bowels, but every once in a while…maybe once a week…we might find an uncontrolled nugget. As long as he is trimmed short around that area, he requires less maintenance than our Pom with full coats. Eli is a pretty cool little dog who is fairly independent. He loves to chase laser lights just like a cat. He will bark at things he doesn’t understand…like the vacuum or Christmas lights. He loves to sleep above your head on the pillow. He is great with other dogs…he doesn’t play but coexists beautifully. He will let you know when he is hungry or needs to go outside. He would do best with a single person or couple without small children in the home. His only quirk is that we don’t think he was petted, groomed, or handled often. You will need time to develop trust with Eli before you can easily pet him below the shoulder blades. He would bite us at first, but it really didn’t hurt. Now we can talk him through it and let him know everything is just fine. Because of this, we also would not place him into a home with senior citizens. We hope you can see through the baggage and straight into Eli’s soul, because he really is a good, loyal companion. Eli’s adoption fee is $250 and includes his microchip, current vaccinations (Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, and Bordatella), HW/Lyme test, and recent dental cleaning. He was neutered prior to coming into our care. To give Eli a forever home, please submit an application at PomPaws.org.

      Location: Harrisburg, PA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian. Meet Porscha, the sweetest senior girl you will ever meet! Porscha was saved from a high kill shelter after her owner abandoned her there. This beautiful girl is estimated at 12 years old and weighs 9 pounds. She is house trained, leash trained, crate trained, and will do anything for a treat! Porscha does have only a few front teeth left and an old jaw fracture that makes it a task for her to eat. She does well with soft food that is broken up into smaller pieces and LOVES her food. This poor girl also has a collapsed disc in her back, but it does not cause her too much trouble as long as she is maintained on Metacam. Besides these minor issues, Porscha is healthy overall. Porscha just needs a retirement home where she can coexist. She does not like sleeping in bed and will try to jump out so we have been doing daily sessions of taking her to bed for a few minutes and loving on her, but she still likes to be on the floor or in her crate. She seeks out the man of the house for attention and enjoys being carried around and getting rubs. She does like the female of the home, but she really lights up when her foster dad comes home from work. This senior girl has lots of pep left in her and even runs around the yard or runs through the house when food is involved. She needs a calm home that will be mindful of her to ensure she does not jump down or fall. To adopt Porscha, please submit an application at PomPaws.org. Her $250 adoption fee ($150 for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordatella), spay, fecal, heartworm/lyme test, microchip, blood work, dental cleaning, and all the love you can handle.

Posted Breed: Pomeranian / Australian Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). This sweet, 7 lb. boy is Duncan, and he looking for a quiet home where he will be doted on. He is house broken and may be 12 years old but still has energy! He loves car rides, short walks and snuggling, but his forever home must be patient with him as it takes awhile for him to trust. Once trusting he will be loyal and follow you everywhere you go (including the bathroom :-). He has a grade V heart mumur so a quiet home with no small children and calm pets is necessary as he does not need the extra stress. It would be best if his human was home with him more often than not as he deserves the best final days. Duncan does have mild luxating patellas and takes medicine once a day to help with pain. Otherwise he is a healthy, happy boy who will bring joy to that special someone's life! Duncan is neutered and current on vaccines (rabies, distemper, and bordatella). He has been heartworm and fecal tested, microchipped, and is on monthy heartworm and flea preventative. His adoption fee is $250. If you are 65+ the fee is reduced to $150. Breed: Pomeranian
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Harrisburg, PA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian (medium coat). Hey guys...my name is Chewy and you know what they say about Dynomite?! It comes in small packages...just like all 6 pounds of me!! They say I'm an old fart, but I say who's counting!! They say I'm 12 or 13 and I say that's better than 80 or 90! Hmph...the nerve. Let me tell you a little about me. I used to live in Wisconsin and then my owner, who didn't take the best care of me, posted me for free on Craigslist. Can you imagine me...on Craigslist. Oh the nerve!! Some lady named Karen came and saved me before I ended up as lunchmeat. She said I was in really bad shape, but I was so happy to be away from my crappy owner that I was jumping for joy...so much so that I knock a canine tooth out when I jumped off the couch. It didn't hurt, but Miss Karen was worried because it left a hole straight into my nasal cavity. She then told me she knew what she had to do...then told me the story of rescue. I then made my way to Pawsitively Pom Rescue in PA and they knew what to do to get me better. It took a really long time since I was in such bad shape. After I was healthy enough to have surgery, they took me to a special dentist. He pulled all my teeth and fixed not 1, but 2 holes in my mouth. Then these people took my manhood! Hmph...really?! Well, I didn't miss them too much, but I sure do miss my teeth! See, I'm feisty and I like to make sure all other animals know that I own everything in the house. I will tell them about themselves if they try to so much as touch a toy, lay on my loveseat, or get to the treats before me. I also like to eat my food, then I will eat other dogs' food, then I will pee on whatever is left...HaHaha! They say I am housebroken, but I also like to let the other dogs know that I own everything in the house by marking my territory. My foster mama doesn't worry about the damage my toothless butt will do, but she always has one eye on how the other dogs will react. So, she says I need a home without any other animals. I also am the biggest lover you will find this side of California!! I will be your best friend and love you til the cows come home. So my foster mama says I should be adopted by someone who is home more than not. That's who I am in a nutshell, now let's discuss my medical history. As I said, I have no teeth so you don't have to worry about dental bills. I have a grade 2 of 6 heart murmur, but my age will likely catch up to me before my heart ever does. I also have Alopecia, or black skin disease, where I'm missing A LOT of hair on my torso. My foster mama says you should be prepared to provide Levicrine (thyroid meds for my hypothyroidism) and buy me lots of warm clothes to keep my butt warm in the winter. I say at least I have more hair than I did because most men my age are losing theirs! Hmph...some people! My biggest problem has been chronic bronchitis, collapsing trachea, and lung disease with two pulmonary bullae. Those are air filled sacs in my lungs, which will likely never amount to anything. I do, however, have the notorious Pommy cough. So my foster mama says you should be prepared to keep stock in Torbutrol (cough med), Theophylline (bronchodilator), and a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement to help strengthen the cartilage in my trachea. She also gives me Zyrtec, although I'm not sure it really does anything. She said I need to live in a clean home with an air purifier(s) and without any carpet. She knows I like to rub my nose in the carpet from one end of the house to the other after a walk and it seriously aggravates my lung condition. I say she's just a worry wart, but she does know what's best. I've been in rescue for a year, but that's because my foster mama couldn't give me up after my first adoption failed. She said I liked the carpet too much. I say...what's an old man to do for fun! Hmph...I'm not an old, old fart...I could live for years!!! But I know my foster mama loves me and she wants to have someone who has more time to spoil me...more than I already am of course. So, she also says, that I have to go to a home in the southcentral PA area. Do you need a baby to love and spoil...albeit a feisty, funny one?? Then what are you waiting for??? My adoption fee is $250 ($150 for senior citizens 65+) and includes my neuter, dental, vaccinations, heartworm/lyme and fecal tests, and microchip. Apply at PawsitivelyPom.rescuegroups.org. Ask for me....Chewy....Chewy for President I say!!!

Too many Pommys are sitting in cold shelters, are being neglected and/or abused, and are no longer wanted by their current owners. Opening up your home temporarily to these Angels allows us to help save one Pom at a time! Without foster homes in rescue, many Poms don't stand a chance and are often euthanized for shelter space. PPR is a very reputable rescue and take pride in the love and care that we give to each and every one of our rescued Poms. We provide all medical care from spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchips, heartworm and fecal tests to any other care the vet recommends, such as X-rays, blood work, thyroid panels, dental work, casts and splints, special diets, etc. All we ask from our fosters is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help heal the physical and emotional trauma that many of these pups have gone through.
