Posted Breed: Pomeranian (long coat). Please contact Isabell (pawparent@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Little Elmo was about to be dumped at a high kill shelter in Downey, CA with his buddy Joey when a kind hearted person intervened and called Paw Parent. Thank God there was room for the two of them here at Paw Parent. Elmo is a joy to be around, he is quiet, mellow and very sweet. He is a 12 year old senior and many of his teeth were rotting and needed to get pulled, poor thing! His is in excellent shape and health otherwise and enjoys sitting on someones lab to watch the world go by. He cannot wait to make someone a great friend for many more good years to come. He is tiny and weighs no more then 4-5 pounds, has all his shots, is neutered and has a microchip. Please call 661-724-0642 if you like to make his aquaintance.

More About Pomeranian Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

He came to Paw Parent from a shelter in Tecate, Mexico with 3 other lucky little ones. The fate for shelter dogs in Mexico is gruesome. If there are too many dogs at the shelter, they are killed by electro shock!!! Euthanasia is too expensive. So, yes, Juan was indeed very lucky. And lucky is the person who will adopt him! He is a sweetheart and loves to hang with his special person and is very affectionate. He walks well on a leash and loves to play chase with his friends here at Paw Parent. He is around 2 years old and weighs about 12 pounds. He is neutered, up to date on all her shots and has a micro chip. Please call 661-724-0642 if you would like to meet him.

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Siberian Husky / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Isabell (pawparent@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Faith's story is quite special. She was abandoned at a business in Lancaster when the tenants moved 2 years ago. Neighboring businesses took care of her during the time. A new tenant moved into the business and it was decided that it was time for Faith to go to a rescue where she would have the chance to find a forever home. Paw Parent had room and in she moved happily. It was believed that she was not good with other dogs which turned out not to be true. She gets along great with all dogs here, loves people and is a happy and sweet dog. Just recently we discovered that she is fascinated with water and loves to swim. She might have some Labrador in her, soince she gets really excited when you throw rocks in the water, which she will try to catch by swimming after them. The vet she was seen by believes that she is much younger then what the people who took care of her thought she was. She is probably around 7 years and weighs 60 pounds. She is house broken, knows how to use a doggy door, is calm and quiet and would make someone a very good friend. She is spayed, micro chipped and up to date with all her shots. Please call 661-724-0642 if you want to make her your new friend!

His owner had to be hospitalized and is more then likely not able to return. He and 8 other dogs, 3 horses, a mule and 15 cats were left without anyone to look after them properly. The property is located near Lancaster. A friend of the owner has been coming up once a week to take care of the house and the animals and hired a neighbor to come once a day to feed and water them. The rest of the time they are alone in their kennels, house and corrals. Paw Parent and another rescue were contacted and asked for help. Paw Parent was able to take in one dog with horrible fly bitten ears and two others were taken by another rescue. There are now still 6 dogs at this property patiently waiting to find a home or a rescue to take them in, one of them is Barney. I go up once a week to clean the kennels and let the dogs out of their runs for some exercise. Barney and his sister Lilly have lots of energy and love to run and explore. It is too funny to watch how those two sausages run around criss cross with huge grins on their faces. He loves to be petted and cannot wait to be adopted and be able to live in a house with a loving new parent He must be around 2-5 years old maybe and weighs approximately 30 pounds. He is neutered but needs to be updated on his shots. It would be great if he could find a home with his sister Lilly. Please call 661-724-0642 if you are interested in meeting her. He would love to make a house with cozy dog bed his home.

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Lady and her husband Grizzly were living in a kennel 24/7 for at least five years! They were never let out for exercise or human contact. The property they lived on was used for shooting commercials and the owner lives in LA. Someone came to feed them once a day, but the poop was rarely picked up and when a friend of Paw Parent worked there on a commercial and saw the conditions with poop piling up and metal bowls chewed up out of boredom, she knew she had to do something to free them. She contacted Paw Parent and it was arranged for Lady and Grizzly to come and live here at Paw Parent.Lady is very much on the shy and timid side and is not happy when walked on a leash but has greatly improved. She is very bonded to Grizzly and needs him close by at all times. It would be fantastic if they could find a home together. She likes being petted once she knows you and enjoys being brushed.Lady is around 7 years old, spayed, updated on all her shots and has a microchip. She weighs about 55 pounds but could use a few extra ones.
