Posted Breed: Pomeranian / Mixed (long coat). This little Polar Bear Pom ended up at Ramona Shelter with an ominous tumor on her face. Not knowing is it was malignant or benign, we knew she had to be saved and given a chance because the shelter would not give her that opportunity. After 2 surgeries and a roller-coaster recovery, the tumor was benign and Muffin was on her way to finding the perfect home! Muffin the Munchkin has the shortest little legs that lend to her name! Watching her do the zooms around the yard is the cutest sight you've ever seen! This sweet and vocal senior loves to eat, sleep and EAT. She does well with other dogs, loves people and telling everyone how she feels. Housebroken, low energy and is happy to be lounging on the couch or in bed watching TV. She is a bit head shy also, so approaching her slowly is recommended.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher (short coat). Roxy is an amazing 8-year-old female who was dumped by her owner at Downey Shelter when her usefulness as a MinPin breeder dog ran its course.... Roxy had a huge Hernia, Mammary Tumors, needed to be spayed, teeth in great need of a dental. GreenDog Foundation has fixed Roxy hernia, mammary tumors, her teeth and got her spayed. .Roxy is available for adoption and would make an awesome family member or a great companion for a senior. Breed: Schipperke-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Schipperke / Mixed (medium coat). Coco was rescued from the Downey Shelter where she sat with multiple fractures in her hip. Once we rescued her, we had FHO hip surgery on her and she has completely recovered. In fact, she is like Speedy Gonzales! She absolutely loves toys and hoards them in her crate where she retreats to snooze. Coco is a spunky and funny little girl! She tends to bark a lot at bigger dogs. She prefers the little dogs better and loves to play with them. She would do well in a home with another little dog to play with. Coco is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations (including rabies) and has had a full anesthetic dental. Coco's adoption fee is $300. rescue
      Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Sunny was one of the saddest cases I've seen at the shelter...dumped by her owner of 8 years because "they didn't have time anymore for her," Sunny sat in the back of the shelter enclosure with her face buried into the corner...refusing to look at you. If you called her name, she would look, hoping to see her owner, and then when she realized it was a stranger, she would again turn into the corner. The shelter deemed her unadoptable because of a lack of socialization. She was rescued by our foundation and once out of the shelter, her gratitude shown through. Sunny is sweet, loving, affectionate, house-trained, loyal, quiet and playful. Sunny is a perfect little girl. Sunny is now spayed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations (including rabies) and has had a full anesthetic dental. From Sunny's Foster Daddy: Sunny is a very sweet girl who loves people. She loves to follow her people around and to get belly rubs. She is very smart and can also be quite the escape artist! She is used to being around other dogs and is also used to being "top dog".

      Sharky & Sti...

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Chihuahua
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). These two cute little 'brothers' must go together... Sharky and Stingray are 2 adorable and bonded brothers with cute crooked noses who are super tiny at about 4.5 pounds each. Despite their small size, they have gigantic personalities that are also quite distinct. Sharky is a super confident boy who loves to "swim" around his people (his swim is a crawl where he stretches out his hind legs and pulls himself around using his front legs in his excitement to see you). Stingray (or "Stingee") is a very sweet boy who is extremely affectionate after he gets to know you for a couple of days. Stingray also loves to play with toys and other dogs and has an adorable play-bow-hop that he does when he wants to play. Both Sharky and Stingray had their vocal cords removed by their previous owner, but they have their own raspy language that they use to communicate with each other with. Sharky is more vocal and will "bark" if he wants to get your attention. Both little guys tend to snore and reverse sneeze a lot. They are also working on being house-trained, so it's a good idea for them to wear male belly bands around the house. Even though each little guy has his own personality, they get along and follow each other and "check up" on the other one if they think something has happened. These two happy-go-lucky boys are sure to brighten your day and bring lots of smiles! Both boys are up to date on all vaccinations (including Rabies), microchipped, neutered and have had a full anesthetic dental. Our adoption fee for the two is $500 and requires a home check. rescue
      Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Natalie was rescued from the Wildomar Shelter where she was left behind while others in her cell left...She is a very sweet girl who can be very shy at first, but warms up quickly. She is quiet and just wants to be loved. She is very well behaved and never gets into trouble and gets along great with other dogs and although we don't have any cats, I don't foresee her having a problem with cats at all. She is a gentle soul. Nat does have the onset of cataracts and so she is slightly impaired visually but it doesn't seem to stop her at all. She does better being inside than out in bright daylight. She loves her food, so you have to watch keeping food down all the time! Natalie is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations (including Rabies), microchipped and has had a full anesthetic dental and is ready for her forever home. rescue
      Breed: Jack Russell Terrier
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier (short coat). Rico is an energetic, affectionate, smart and playful terrier. Rico loves to play with other dogs (big or small but for some reason prefers big). Rico can be a bit lap possessive of whoever is giving them his full attention but loves all sizes and types of dogs. Rico can get scared if confronted aggressively or handled rough and will react fearfully, so it is best that he not go into a home with small children and best that he is placed with someone experienced with terriers. With someone who loves him and is kind to him, he is definitely your best friend and lover. Rico loves both men and women equally. Rico would do great in obedience training as he is smart and very quick to learn. Rico is up to date on his vaccinations (including rabies), neutered and microchipped. If you are interested in Rico, please email us at greendogfoundation@gmail.com or call (951) 609-0765.

      Breed: Chiranian
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pomeranian / Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). Billy Bob is an adorable little boy that has the cutest little crooked mouth that we had to give him the name "Billy Bob" because he looks like he should have a piece of straw out the side of his mouth! Billy was rescued from the OC Shelter where he was brought in looking pretty bad, but after being rescued and receiving good loving and medical care, Billy Bob is ready for his forever home. Billy Bob is very good about asking to go out; however, he may have to go out during the night. He likes to curl up very close to you in bed and won't have it any other way. Billy is very easy-going and no trouble. He gets along fine with other dogs and would be fine with cats as well. Because he is so small and delicate, he would not be a good fit for homes with small children. Billy Bob is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations (including Rabies), microchipped and has had a full anesthetic dental. Max

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Pomeranian-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie / Pomeranian / Mixed (medium coat). Max was rescued from the Wildomar Shelter where he was owner surrendered...he was scared and a little shy and had terribly rotten teeth. After we rescued him, we did a full anesthetic dental and fully vetted Max. He has beautiful teeth now and uses them like a shark when you give him a treat! (we're working on that ;) The shelter thought max was only about 10, but after researching his existing microchip, we found out that he had been microchipped back in 2002! And that's assuming he was a puppy then. For his age, you would never guess he was that old. Max "runs" about and follows you everywhere. There is no way you can get through a door without him there right next to you. His tail is ALWAYS going as well. Max has one of the sweetest temperaments I've seen with other dogs. He doesn't like to have his head or mouth restrained, but I believe that's from previous bad experiences. He loves to lay next to your bed on a pillow or dog bed and he's fully house-trained. Max is just a wonderful little soul and if we didn't have to place him to help others, we would keep him in a heartbeat. He's just a really special soul. Max is up to date on all vaccinations (including Rabies), microchipped and neutered and has had his full dental and blood work. His blood work did reveal that he might be in the beginning stages of kidney disease; however, we have had him on a special kidney diet that you can make at home since we got the results back. He has no symptoms of kidney failure at this time and we hope to keep it that way. For more information, please call (951) 609-0765 or email us at greendogfoundation@gmail.com. Thank you for looking!
