None noted Weight: 70 lbs Height: About 25" at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $249 Fence needed? I am a pretty laid back guy, I hang out at your feet put my head in your lap but as for the crazy stuff, I will leave that to the puppies. I just want someone to love me. I am incredibly patient and kids are no problem. I would just like a home with a lot of love to give, I am relaxed so I can handle the rest. What is my personality like? Patient and sweet, I can deal with small dogs, big dogs, young and old dogs, kids, just name it! I am incredibly sweet and all I want is to be loved on, I'm not too picky. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.

Sheba needs a calm and laid back home. What is my personality like? Sheba was an owner release with her siblings due to her owner going through a divorce. She came in very afraid and shy but she has since opened up and let us love her. She is a easy dog to have. She doesn't ask for much.. just a little attention and short walks through the grass. She gets along with every creature she has met and does not have a mean bone in her body! So far she does not know any basic commands or like toys and prefers a couch to nap on rather than romping around and playing. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly and sweet. althoug she can also be a bit shy at first House trained? What kind of home would be best for me? I'm good with everyone so I would really like a playmate, but that isn't a definite, the lady asking me these questions just wanted to know in a dream scenario, so a brother or sister would be nice. I've got a lot of spunk still left and I am getting good at learning fetch, I seem to really like it. Maybe I'd like someone to throw a ball in the yard and then after we both get tired go inside and watch some TV... yeah that sounds nice. What is my personality like? I'm an all around pretty good guy. Posted Breed: Poodle (Standard). Paris is a beautiful girl, both inside and out. She has the prettiest, silver/beige colouring you've ever seen and you'll lose yourself in her eyes. And her personality is excellent. She is fun, happy, playful, friendly, outgoing. Just about perfect. Paris does have epilepsy and her seizures happen often, although they are decreasing in frequency now that her medication has been adjusted a bit more. She has been on phenobarbitol and keppra for a while, and has recently started a third medication called zonisimide. This seems to help a lot. There may be some fine tuning of medication doses needed. The neurologist is hopeful that the change will help get her seizures down to a lesser amount. There are other options too, but her care should only be changed one step at a time, so we're starting here. Thankfully there is a fantastic support group for people whose dog has epilepsy, so it's not so scary. You need to know that her medications can be costly. Currently they are costing $400 to $450 per month, but it is hopeful that she can be weaned off Keppra (the most expensive drug) and remain on the 2 much less expensive medications. This would be something that her new family will explore under the guidance of their vet. If you are interested in learning more about Paris, please email us to start the conversation. We'd love to introduce you to our girl!

We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team "I'm a diamond in the rough - teach me and love me and watch me shine." Date into Rescue: 05/09/2015 Reason for being in rescue: breeder passed away - family could not care for the dogs. The dogs lived in a barn with little or no human interaction so their socialization was lacking. Alfie was one of the youngest. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms Pacolet SC Special Needs? Alfie is extremely shy. He's come a long way since he came to us two years ago but I do not think he will ever be the happy, gregarious dog that we all are used to seeing in standard poodles. However, he will make a good companion to the patient and experienced standard owner. Weight: 50 lbs Height: est 22" at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $429 Fence needed? Absolutely must. Alfie needs the security of a fence out his door - he enjoys laying around in the sun (under supervision of course). What kind of home would be best for me? Alfie's forever home will be one that has at least one experienced dog person who is at home most of the time and who has a willingness to dedicate him/herself to Alfie's progress. He also needs another dog to help him learn and give him canine companionship. A female with a laid back, mothering personality would be preferred. He has never been without canine friends and we don't think he'll do well without some now. For many years, other dogs were his only friends. He would not do well with children, so an adult home only please. A note on cats - we are unsure how Alfie would be with cats in the home. We cannot currently take him out of his comfort zone and test him around cats. We did attempt to try him around cats on two separate occasions and it was just too much for him (he was really scared). We will continue to work on his socialization and try him with cats again in the future. Alfie lived a very cloistered life his first few years - living in a barn with other dogs, being used for breeding. He's come a long way in two years in foster care but he has further to go - life is about learning and Alfie has much to learn. He needs to have new experiences whether on walks or in pet stores or other public places. Obedience classes would probably be a good vehicle to get him less afraid. He cannot be let off leash even in a dog park because it would be difficult to capture him. We recommend a GPS tracker for Alife. The biggest attribute his foster mom will be looking for is a passion for dogs and an unfathomable belief that a dog can change, grow and become a happy member of a pack. Whoever ends up with Alfie will be very fortunate. What is my personality like? Alfie is very frightened of humans and noises. He lived with an experienced and compassionate foster mom since November 2015. She has seen him come out in many ways, but he continues to be very shy. When he is not in the backyard, he hangs out in his bed in the den. He lies by his foster mom and frequently asks for affection. He is very, very sweet. He sleeps in a crate in the master bedroom and is very accepting of body rubs and comes to the bedside in the morning for affection and asks for more with his paws when she stops rubbing on him. He does not get along with a dominant and aggressive dog that lives in the house - but it is the other dog that is the problem, not Alfie. He eats well and barks when he hears his meals being made. His foster mom loves him, and is very reluctant to say goodbye, but believes he needs to be in a home with an experienced owner who can focus a significant amount of time with him so that he can continue his growth in the human world. Anyone would be lucky to have him as long as they give him some time. Alfie moved to the farm in August of 2017 to start the hunt for his forever home. He is living with our directors and has done well. He regressed a little - he's still not asking for affection and cringes from touch but after a week, he has become more and more curious about these new people in his life. We think his next transition will take about 30 days and he will then continue his slow, steady improvement in his social skills. How I act when I first meet new people : Very frightened, takes time to warm up House trained? Right now, I keep a belly band on him, but I think he is getting better. Hard to say, because I don't admonish him much. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Date into Rescue: 8/12/2017 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release- Owner getting a divorce. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? none noted Weight: Est 40 lbs Height: About 23" at the shoulder - a petite princess Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? First and foremost please understand that this princess wants to rule her kingdom alone. Angel is not a fan of other dogs at the moment. She is wonderful with people. She is warm, loving, giving and affectionate. But other dogs she has no use for. What is my personality like? Bubbly and active. Angel acts and looks like a dog closer to 3 or 4 than to her 8 yeas old. She has a beautiful confirmation and floats/walks like a standard poodle should. She is great in a car and very much enjoys long walks - until you come upon another dog. Then there is trouble. We're working with Angel on this but How do I act when I first meet new people? Angel lives up to her name and is every bit the Angel with new people. She is happy, sweet and affectionate. Just don't bring another dog up. More tips and tidbits: The following was an evaluation done by an experienced standard poodle owner who spent a weekend with Angel. I think she would do best where she is the only dog in the home. She has food/water bowl and toy aggression, guarding issues. Her current owners may not have been aware of this since she has been the only dog. She went after my standard poodle aggressively and I had to separate them a few times. She would often approach our dog growling but with a stern command she would back off and walk away. I was told she does not do well with thunderstorms and lightening. We happened to have bad storms come through our area last Friday night. She was nervous, panting, restless and shaking. I stayed with her to cuddle her as much as she would let me and it did seem to help. Angel is reactive on the leash when she sees other dogs where she will bark, growl and lunge at them. Other than that she is a joy to walk and loves to go for them. They use a harness for her. (CPR note - we plan to work with Angel with a gentle leader head halter.) Yes she has some behavior issues but I think with a professional trainer, patience, time and attention with her new owners she will overcome them. She loves her people and was told she is good with children. She loves to play with her toys with you or even by herself. She loves to play fetch with her toys, balls and will bring them right back to you. She understands "give" very well. Angel is an active standard, you would never think she was eight. If you are an active family that has a fenced backyard or likes to run, walk or go on hikes she's your girl!!! She knows basic commands and will give paw for treats and she takes them nicely too. She loves to give kisses, receive body massages from you and loves her chin scratched. She will lean into and rub up against you like a cat. She is a very sweet loving girl, She is a watchful standard inside and outside the home. Will bark to alert you if she sees someone outside or at the door. She loves going in the car for a ride, jumps right in. Windows need to be rolled up enough so that she won't jump out. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Whitley is intelligent, active and confident. Date into Rescue: 02/21/2011, returned 07/2016 Reason for being in rescue: originally an owner surrender due to not receiving enough attention, but came back to us due to her resource guarding Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes - resource guards Weight: est 54 lb Height: est 22 in Adoption Fee: $350.00 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? An adult only home with an experienced owner. No children. Update as of May 2017: Whitley loves people (both men and women). She is intelligent, confident, inquisitive and active. She loves to take walks and "explore" the world. On leashed walks, she is so excited to be outside that she will pull on the leash at first. As a result, I generally let her run around the fenced yard to burn off some energy before putting a leash on her. After doing this, she walks well on the leash. However, she will pull if she sees something of interest. Whitley was relinquished to CPR because she bit the owner and her adult son. The bite to the owner occurred when she tried to take away a piece of chicken from her. (It had bones in it, so the owner persisted, even though Whitley had growled and then showed teeth.) The bite to the son occurred when Whitley ran out an open door. He grabbed her by the hips to stop her, and she whirled around and bit him. (I do not know if this was a reflex reaction or intended bite.) I have found that Whitley will "trade up." For example, she was was exploring a muddy area and didn't want to get out. So I asked if she wanted to take a walk. She loves to walk, so she left the mud. On another occasion, she got a hold of some cinnamon rolls. I approached her, and she growled at me. I respected this warning, and backed off. If I had been able to trade a "higher value items" (such as hamburger), she probably would have let me "trade up" for the rolls. However, I didn't have anything of value, so I let her have the rolls as they weren't anything "harmful." It's possible that Whitley will get over this guarding as she builds a trusting relationship with someone, but I can't tell you for sure if this will happen. Fortunately, I have always been able to either "trade up," or she had an item that wasn't an issue. Because of her resource guarding and bite history, CPR requires that Whitley go to an experienced adult only home. (No children.) Whitley is OK with some dogs. There was another dog in her previous home, and she regularly goes outside with several large dogs. She may be OK with other dogs in a new home, but I would be cautious about bringing her into a home with another dog due to her resource guarding history. (Resource guarding with multiple dogs present is something that's beyond my personal experience level, but many people have more knowledge and experience with this issue than I do.) Whitley is very intelligent. Her previous owners taught her a long list of commands. She enjoys interacting with people, and will do well with someone who uses positive reinforcement training (treats/rewards and praise). When she arrived at CPR, she reacted to mops and brooms by barking. I've worked on this with her, and she seems to have gotten over this - provided she is awake. If she is sleeping in her kennel, and someone wakes her up when cleaning, she will bark. (Maybe she just doesn't like being woken up!) Whitley loves to run and play in the larger fenced field at CPR. When I ask if she wants to take a walk, she will run over to me. She loves adults, and will go up to men and women without hesitation. (I haven't tried her with kids, only because we haven't encountered any yet.) I feel that Whitley is ready to find her forever home. She would do well in an adult only home that is knowledgeable about dogs. Update/ as of August 2016: Whitley is a gorgeous orange (apricot) Standard Poodle with white markings. She is active and curious. She loves people, and would do well with a confident, experienced owner who can spend time with her. She enjoys taking walks, but will pull a little on the the leash. During a recent temperament test, Whitley was OK with dogs (large and small) and cats. However, we feel that she would do best as an only pet. She is an active dog, and reportedly harassed the other dog in her previous home. We feel she may harass a cat, as well. She needs a home where someone can work with her one-on-one. (Only pet, please!) Whitley's food resource guarding seems have improved while in a controlled situation. I was able to give her treats while she was alongside six other dogs, and she was polite and patient the entire time. However, she was in an unfamiliar place, and on her best behavior. She still reacts strongly to mops and brooms. (We will work on this.) When she feels threatened, she will give a clear warning signal by growling. For example, when someone approached from behind her to remove her from a muddy area outside, she growled to let the person know that she did not like them coming up behind her. She is highly food motivated, and will "work" for food! She is leash trained, house trained, and knows many commands (sit, down, etc). She loves men and women. Due to her background and reactivity, we feel she should be in an adult only home. (No children!) Whitley is OK with being groomed, and stands nicely on the grooming table. Our groomer said that Whitley has the best coat she's ever seen! Update as of July 2016: Whitley was adopted from CPR years ago and unfortunately has now returned due to some behavioral issues. Her family reported that Whitley has shown aggression when being asked to do something she didn't want to do and aggression over food. Since she has been with us here she has shown reactivity towards mops and brooms, and she does resource guard her food. Due to her resource guarding issues we feel she would fit best in a home without children. Whitley needs a home with a dog savvy person, someone confident in their dog handling skills, because Ms. Whitley is going to push the envelope and see what she can and cannot get away with. Once she is made aware that that behavior is unacceptable and wasn't going to be tolerated, she behaves like the good dog we know she can be. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: estimated birth date 07/25/2008 Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.
