  • Poodle (Standard) Dog For Adoption in Bowmanville, ON

    Stella

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Poodle (Standard)
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: Bowmanville, ON
Posted Breed: Poodle (Standard). Stella is a young (16mth), energetic, standard poodle who loving and playful. She is nervous when first meeting new people but she does warm up to you and then....well, look out, because she is nothing but fun! Stella does have some fear issues with strangers, both in the house and on the street, and with new dogs. She wants to meet everyone and every dog but she is very rude when she meets them and often will lunge and bark toward them. She has been known to give a good 'poodle poke'. Stella is highly food motivated and very smart so we know that with the proper training, she will respond well. She has recently lived in a home with four standard poodles and one toy poodle and she did well there. She is currently living in a home with one standard poodle and again, is doing well. She really, really wants to play and can do so for hours! But her style of play is not for the faint of heart. Stella is fearful and will need a knowledgeable owner, one willing to work with her to overcome her fear reactions. It will be best to work with a skilled, positive, reward based, trainer. Stella will not respond well to correction based training. If you are interested in Stella, please email us to start the conversation. Please note that we will require you to complete an adoption application prior to meeting her. Once an adoption is approved, there will be an adoption contract to sign and a $450 adoption fee.

Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Bruno has a thyroid conditions which requires him to take medication twice a day. The daily cost of this medication is around .40 cents or $15 a month. Weight: 67.9 lbs Adoption Fee: $349 Fence needed? No. What kind of home would be best for me? Bruno would do well in any home where he can lay around and snooze! What is my personality like? Bruno is a old soul.. you will most likely find him snoozing away in his crate. He just wants someone to love him and vise versa. He's a meek, gentle and quiet type of dog. He wants nothing more than a comfy home for him to spend the rest of his days in. How I act when I first meet new people: friendly, a little stand off-ish but warms up. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Birth date is 9/14/2007 Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. (Ana was surrendered to Small Animal Vet Clinic in Mobile, AL and the vet reached out to CPR.) Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? None known. Weight: Estimated 56.6 lbs Height: Estimated 18" at the shoulder. Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? Yes, Ana is timid in some ways and badly undersocialized. A fence is a must to give her a safe place to run and play with her human friend. What kind of home would be best for me? Ana needs a home that is laid back and quiet, and that has a good deal of understanding of canine personality and how to shape behaviors in an older dog. Ana was badly under socialized all her life and so does not trust easily. What is my personality like? Ana came from a quiet and reserved home where it was just her and her owner. She is very timid and shy, she is not one to run up to you and tackle you with hugs but will most likely stay in a corner. Ana needs confidence and patience. Ana does not like walking on a leash but only out of fear of going somewhere she is not familiar with. She has the potential to be a very sweet girl given the opportunity. How I act when I first meet new people: Timid and that timidity can manifest in fear aggression with some people. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. When he first arrived, he was terrified and shut down.. but since then he has came great strides into the dog he is now. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Date into Rescue: 9/20/2016 Reason for being in rescue: Owner release/ Pca rescue. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes, Kingston is on Prozac for behavior problems and anxiety, Pepcid for a sensitive stomach and Zyrtec for food allergies. He is on a special diet, Taste of the Wild Rabbit. All together his medications run around $30 to $40 per month Weight: about 60 lbs Height: about 27" at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $229 Fence needed? Yes without question, Kingston needs the security of a fenced in yard to play. He is not a leash walk only kind of guy What kind of home would be best for me? Kingston needs an extremely experienced owner who can work with his anxieties and challenges and understand that much of the way he is was created by an abusive human. He will get better and better but he will always have a strong personality that needs understanding. What is my personality like? Kingston can be a lively and loving canine companion in the right home. He has no real preference male or female and I think would actually like a couple to live with. He could be an only dog although a very stable, strong standard poodle brother or sister that would be able to keep up with him and continue to teach him how to play the right way would work. Kingston likes other dogs but he does not know how to enjoy their company. Kingston is house trained and crate trained although the crate is not his favorite place. He pulls on a lead but can be walked nicely on a front lead harness. He absolutely loves toys and he will gather all his squeaky toys together on his bed. He can stay outside and watch the countryside go by him for hours. NO CATS!!!!! ABSOLUTELY NO KIDS UNDER 18 YEARS OLD Kingston was originally purchased as a puppy by a young woman in what she thought was a stable relationship but when Kingston was just a year old, the couple broke up and Kingston and his owner moved in with her parents. At the time he was a pretty happy pup with just a bit of a resource guarder showing . But....the owner's father did not like Kingston and banned him from the house shortly after they moved in. The owner moved Kingston from friend to friend trying to find a safe place for him and as he bounced and bounced, his behavior grew worse. A few months after, she moved in with a relative who was openly verbally abusive to both Kingston and his owner. The owner tried training and it was starting to work but she was not consistent with following through which confused Kingston even more. Her trainer observed the verbal abuse first hand. If there was physical abuse, it was never in front of anyone that we know of but the possibility exists. Eventually, the owner got back on track and moved into her own apartment but at that point, Kingston got little exercise and socialization. The owner worked long hours and Kingston was often crated 10+ hours and left alone. His behaviors (charging and biting at strangers) finally got to the point where the owner realized neither of them were happy and reached out to rescue. In his first day at the poodle farm, Kingston bit and drew blood on a caregiver who simply entered the room he was in. At that point, our director took him home and the first full morning he was with CPR, she took him to a vet where he was proscribed Prozac. The Prozac has been a tremendous help in curbing Kingston's anxieties and aggression. Kingston has not bit anyone else since that day. When Kingston is on his medication, he is fairly even tempered and able to be worked with. When Kingston is in a good mood, he is a joy to be around. He is playful and affectionate and will chase a ball, go for a walk or cuddle on the couch watching tv. He will always be a problem around strangers and will bark and snap at anyone coming in his house that he does not know. Once he knows you, he's much easier. He also meets strangers easier when he is outside his yard and on leash. There is much more to Kingston - more that makes more sense if he's met in person. If your interested in exploring giving a dog a home who truly needs a home, if you think you can handle the anxiety and can keep him on medication that is good for him, if your willing to work to find activities that he will enjoy and will help him gain confidence, if you don't have many visitors and your visitors are also dog savvy, he may be a good fit. It's a lot of "if's" and we understand it won't be easy but out there somewhere is a home he can thrive in. We're going to be extremely careful in placing Kingston. How I act when I first meet new people: Apprehensive and afraid. It could take several meetings for Kingston to accept you. Other notes - Kingston does best with very short hair. His hair is oily. If it gets too long it does not look good at all. We keep him short overall including his ears. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: birthdate 8/20/2012 Please note - we do not ship dogs. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Date into Rescue: 02/21/2011, returned 07/2016 Reason for being in rescue: originally an owner surrender due to not receiving enough attention, but came back to us due to her resource guarding Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes - resource guards Weight: est 54 lb Height: est 22 in Adoption Fee: $350.00 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? An adult only home with an experienced standard poodle owner who is able to work with Whitley one-on-one, and who is patient with her moods when they change. No other animals or children. Update as of August 2016: Whitley is a gorgeous orange (apricot) Standard Poodle with white markings. She is active and curious. She loves people, and would do well with a confident, experienced owner who can spend time with her. She enjoys taking walks, but will pull a little on the the leash. During a recent temperament test, Whitley was OK with dogs (large and small) and cats. However, we feel that she would do best as an only pet. She is an active dog, she harassed the other dog in her previous home. We feel she will harass a cat, as well. She needs a home where someone can work with her one-on-one. (Only pet, please!) Whitley's food resource guarding seems have improved while in a controlled situation. I was able to give her treats while she was alongside six other dogs, and she was polite and patient the entire time. However, she was in an unfamiliar place, and on her best behavior. She still reacts strongly to mops and brooms. (We will work on this.) When she feels threatened, she will give a clear warning signal by growling. For example, when someone approached from behind her to remove her from a muddy area outside, she growled to let the person know that she did not like them coming up behind her. She is highly food motivated, and will "work" for food! She is leash trained, house trained, and knows many commands (sit, down, etc). She loves men and women. Due to her background and reactivity, we feel she should be in an adult only home. (No children!) Whitley is OK with being groomed, and stands nicely on the grooming table. Our groomer said that Whitley has the best coat she's ever seen! Update as of July 2016: Whitley was adopted from CPR years ago and unfortunately has now returned due to some behavioral issues. Her family reported that Whitley has shown aggression when being asked to do something she didn't want to do and aggression over food. Since she has been with us here she has shown reactivity towards mops and brooms, and she does resource guard her food. Due to her resource guarding issues we feel she would fit best in a home without children. Whitley needs a home with a dog savvy person, someone confident in their dog handling skills, because Ms. Whitley is going to push the envelope and see what she can and cannot get away with. Once she is made aware that that behavior is unacceptable and wasn't going to be tolerated, she behaves like the good dog we know she can be. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. You can also read our adoption tips page for hints and helps on adopting a rescued dog. http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/AdoptionTips.shtml or for general information on Carolina Poodle Rescue, please visit our FAQs - http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/FAQGeneral.shtml

Learn more here: http://www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/twelvedogsofchristmas2016/2016_12_dogs.html Thank you for your interest in a rescued dog. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Date into Rescue: 7-5-16 Reason for being in rescue: Owner Passed Away Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Proin for incontinence and gabapentin for arthritis Proin - 50 mg two times per day and 25 mg once a day. The cost at 1-800-petmeds is .30 cents per pill so for Proin is $1.35 per day. Gabapentin is 300 mg two times per day - total is .44 cents per day Total medication for Samantha will be $1.79 per day Weight: 48 lbs Height: est 23" at the shoulder Adoption Fee: n/a during christmas special Fence needed? No - these two are used to leash walking. Their idea of outside time is potty outside and come back in. What kind of home would be best for me? Samantha and Sweet Tea are looking for a laid back home, no kids, and lots of loving time. They are retired - they don't want long walks, they want long cuddles. They won't expect you to take them for agility, they are long past that. They want to be your best friends. We were told the girls are the same age but Tea is more mobile than Samantha. Tea and Samantha don't like to be confined - they want the run of the house. Tea likes to explore her surroundings and see what is going on in her world. Samantha is more laid back. Her arthritis keeps her quieter. What is my personality like? Sweet and loving and affectionate and caring. Update 12 Dogs Of Christmas: Samantha is sweet older lady, but she still likes to explore her surroundings. Samantha needs a home where she can be lazy and lay with you and her sister while watching movies. Despite her gentle and sweet personality she is protective of her humans and does not like strange dogs coming up to her human.. She will stick her head in between your legs while growling so the dog doesn't come near you. She is not fond of small dogs what so ever, she doesn't have time for their shannanigans! Samantha's typical day would be sniffing around her new home then finding her comfy spot on a bed beside her sister. She loves treats but does not know any basic commands. How I act when I first meet new people: The girls love people. They will greet you, love you and treat you like your their best friend. They love affection and will give it right back. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: 12 years old - reportedly a birthdate of 1/27/2004 but we believe Samantha is a little older Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you.
