Posted Breed: Poodle (Standard) (long coat). Adoption Fee: $499. Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team I'm your best bud let's go and let's do! I wanna see the world at your side! Date into Rescue: 06/13/2015 Reason for being in rescue: Buster was released to CPR in 2016 when his very busy family (4 kids) realized there was too much human activity in their home. He was rehomed to a couple who thought they wanted a service dog but after several months, the partner who was disabled realized he did not want a service dog. In that 8 months Buster received a lot of training and it made him a much better dog. You can run him through his cues- he knows a lot! Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Lots and lots and lots of energy, needs experienced owner who understands and will stay on top of his behavior. BUSTER'S PREFERENCE IS FOR A STRONG MALE LEADER IN HIS HOME. HE LOVES MEN. Weight: est 55 lbs - needs to be 65 he's a long and lanky kind of guy Height: est 27" at the shoulder Adoption Fee: $499 Fence needed? Yes at least 4' tall. Buster easily jumps a 3' baby gate What kind of home would be best for me? An experience standard poodle owner, preferrably a man or a couple. Buster needs a strong, committed calm assertive leader who understands this boy needs shaping and molding. Buster is very, very bright and needs to be constantly challenged to learn new things and find new outlets for his energy. I see this slowing down when he's about 14 years old but not before. What is my personality like? Wide open. Completely and totally at about twice the rate of a normal standard poodle. He's always the first at the door, he's always the first up if you move, he's always first. Tail wagging, tongue hanging out he's ready for action. Buster is a live wire who takes life in big bites. He will resource guard and misbehave if his owner is not totally confident in his abilities to be Buster's leader. With the right owner Buster will lay his heart at your feet and follow you to the ends of the earth. Buster currently lives with many other dogs in a large foster home. He has gotten along well with his siblings although at times of high excitement (when mom or dad comes home, when going outside to romp) he can be what appears to be aggressive but is not. His current favorite running mate is another wide open no holds barred kind of guy - who happens to be a chihuahua. To the unobservant it looks like Buster is being too rough but a lot of it is simply because he's so much bigger. The chihuahua is right back at him and they off they go. Buster may not need a 5 lb playmate in his home but with an active happy sibling more his own size he would do okay. He'd be okay as an only dog also if you give him the attention he must have. No crating - he gets far too anxious in a crate. He's not destructive at all, does not tear up the house so we hope that is not an issue for too many people. Buster currently sleeps at the bottom of his foster dad's bed, curled up neatly and occasionally reaching out to make sure Dad is there, happy to be near his human guy. No kids - Buster's first home had 4 and in Buster's opinion, he needs to be the big kid in the family. How I act when I first meet new people: He's a bit tentative but we've found out the secret. Buster can be bought and he's cheap. Come bearing soft, chewy or smelly treats and he's eating out of your hands in under 30 seconds. Hot dogs are big favorites. Pupperoni is right up there also. House trained? Buster is doing much better in this area - at first he had some marking issues when going from being an only dog to a busy household with multiple dogs . He needs schedule and once on schedule he is very good in the house. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: birthdate 06/13/2015 Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.

Date into Rescue: 02/21/2011, returned 07/2016 Reason for being in rescue: originally an owner surrender due to not receiving enough attention, but came back to us due to her resource guarding Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? yes - resource guards Weight: est 54 lb Height: est 22 in Adoption Fee: $350.00 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? An adult only home with an experienced owner. No children. Update as of May 2017: Whitley loves people (both men and women). She is intelligent, confident, inquisitive and active. She loves to take walks and "explore" the world. On leashed walks, she is so excited to be outside that she will pull on the leash at first. As a result, I generally let her run around the fenced yard to burn off some energy before putting a leash on her. After doing this, she walks well on the leash. However, she will pull if she sees something of interest. Whitley was relinquished to CPR because she bit the owner and her adult son. The bite to the owner occurred when she tried to take away a piece of chicken from her. (It had bones in it, so the owner persisted, even though Whitley had growled and then showed teeth.) The bite to the son occurred when Whitley ran out an open door. He grabbed her by the hips to stop her, and she whirled around and bit him. (I do not know if this was a reflex reaction or intended bite.) I have found that Whitley will "trade up." For example, she was was exploring a muddy area and didn't want to get out. So I asked if she wanted to take a walk. She loves to walk, so she left the mud. On another occasion, she got a hold of some cinnamon rolls. I approached her, and she growled at me. I respected this warning, and backed off. If I had been able to trade a "higher value items" (such as hamburger), she probably would have let me "trade up" for the rolls. However, I didn't have anything of value, so I let her have the rolls as they weren't anything "harmful." It's possible that Whitley will get over this guarding as she builds a trusting relationship with someone, but I can't tell you for sure if this will happen. Fortunately, I have always been able to either "trade up," or she had an item that wasn't an issue. Because of her resource guarding and bite history, CPR requires that Whitley go to an experienced adult only home. (No children.) Whitley is OK with some dogs. There was another dog in her previous home, and she regularly goes outside with several large dogs. She may be OK with other dogs in a new home, but I would be cautious about bringing her into a home with another dog due to her resource guarding history. (Resource guarding with multiple dogs present is something that's beyond my personal experience level, but many people have more knowledge and experience with this issue than I do.) Whitley is very intelligent. Her previous owners taught her a long list of commands. She enjoys interacting with people, and will do well with someone who uses positive reinforcement training (treats/rewards and praise). When she arrived at CPR, she reacted to mops and brooms by barking. I've worked on this with her, and she seems to have gotten over this - provided she is awake. If she is sleeping in her kennel, and someone wakes her up when cleaning, she will bark. (Maybe she just doesn't like being woken up!) Whitley loves to run and play in the larger fenced field at CPR. When I ask if she wants to take a walk, she will run over to me. She loves adults, and will go up to men and women without hesitation. (I haven't tried her with kids, only because we haven't encountered any yet.) I feel that Whitley is ready to find her forever home. She would do well in an adult only home that is knowledgeable about dogs. Update/ as of August 2016: Whitley is a gorgeous orange (apricot) Standard Poodle with white markings. She is active and curious. She loves people, and would do well with a confident, experienced owner who can spend time with her. She enjoys taking walks, but will pull a little on the the leash. During a recent temperament test, Whitley was OK with dogs (large and small) and cats. However, we feel that she would do best as an only pet. She is an active dog, and reportedly harassed the other dog in her previous home. We feel she may harass a cat, as well. She needs a home where someone can work with her one-on-one. (Only pet, please!) Whitley's food resource guarding seems have improved while in a controlled situation. I was able to give her treats while she was alongside six other dogs, and she was polite and patient the entire time. However, she was in an unfamiliar place, and on her best behavior. She still reacts strongly to mops and brooms. (We will work on this.) When she feels threatened, she will give a clear warning signal by growling. For example, when someone approached from behind her to remove her from a muddy area outside, she growled to let the person know that she did not like them coming up behind her. She is highly food motivated, and will "work" for food! She is leash trained, house trained, and knows many commands (sit, down, etc). She loves men and women. Due to her background and reactivity, we feel she should be in an adult only home. (No children!) Whitley is OK with being groomed, and stands nicely on the grooming table. Our groomer said that Whitley has the best coat she's ever seen! Update as of July 2016: Whitley was adopted from CPR years ago and unfortunately has now returned due to some behavioral issues. Her family reported that Whitley has shown aggression when being asked to do something she didn't want to do and aggression over food. Since she has been with us here she has shown reactivity towards mops and brooms, and she does resource guard her food. Due to her resource guarding issues we feel she would fit best in a home without children. Whitley needs a home with a dog savvy person, someone confident in their dog handling skills, because Ms. Whitley is going to push the envelope and see what she can and cannot get away with. Once she is made aware that that behavior is unacceptable and wasn't going to be tolerated, she behaves like the good dog we know she can be. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. Mirabella is new to LDDR. She is good with other dogs and very sweet with people. More to come... Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.

Reason for being in rescue: Owner release, family expanding and feel it is best to re-home Lance. Birthdate: 7/23/2016 (1 year old) Special Needs? Addison's Disease (See below for information about Addison's. It is a manageable condition that is treated with medication.) Weight: 40 lbs Height: Estimated 21" at the shoulder. Fence needed? Yes, he loves to play and run. Date into Rescue: 5/21/2017 Adoption Fee: $399 Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Notes from a volunteer who has been working with Lance: Lance is a fantastic and beautiful boy! He just turned one year old, and he has a ton of puppy energy and enthusiasm. His previous owner worked with him and taught him basic commands. He is food motivated which makes him easy to train, as he's very willing to "work for food!" He loves to chase frisbees and tennis balls, and will bring them back to you. Lance was recently diagnosed with Addison's disease, which occurs when the adrenals don't produce enough steroid hormones. It is a manageable condition. In other words, Lance is a perfectly normal Standard Poodle who has a condition that can be managed and controlled with medication. As long as he gets this medication, he can do everything that other dogs do, and he can live a long and healthy life. To manage the condition, Lance gets a daily tablet of prednisone, and a Percorten injection every 28 days. Your vet can teach you how to give the injection at home. (There is also a different way to treat this that involves pills rather than shots.) He will need occasional blood work to monitor his electrolytes. Some people find it "scary" when they hear a medical diagnosis. But I have a condition where my thyroid doesn't produce sufficient thyroid hormone, so I take a daily pill and get occasional blood work too. Addison's is pretty much the same.... Your vet can tell you more about Addison's. There is also a good Addison's disease group on Facebook called Canine Addison’s Resources & Education (CARE). I learned a lot about Addison's by reading their files and information. What kind of home would be best for me? A home with an owner who will give Lance his Addison's medications, and will love him and treat him like the puppy that he is! What is my personality like? Lance was an owner release due to the family expanding, as having a high energy puppy was just too much for the family to deal with. Lance needs someone who will treat him like the normal puppy that he is. Lance is happy, playful and energetic. As long as he has food to eat and someone that will spend some time with him, he feels that he is the luckiest dog in the world! Lance is extremely smart, He knows how to sit, lie down, give handshakes and also do high fives! He is very food motivated. You could probably teach him anything as long as you have treats! How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly. And if you have treats when meeting him, he wants to know all about you! More tips and tidbits: For some unknown reason Lance is not a fan of brooms/mops. He walks great on a leash but gets distracted by any and everything, He likes to chase butterflies! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Yes - Jack will go on walk about What kind of home would be best for me? Hi, my name is Jack! The people at CPR that are taking care of me call me Jack Attack or Mr. Jack - not because I attack anything but because it rhymes and is fun! I'm a very go with the flow guy and I can really handle most anything thrown at me. I'm a sweet, cool tempered guy. I love playing with the beagle mix pups that we have that are about 6 months old, I even referee when they get a little rough! Some days, I love to sun bathe in the yard (away from the pups) and think how beautiful our summer has been. Other times I play tug of war with my pink bunny and my caregivers. It's all in what you want to do! I'm up for anything as long as you're there :) What is my personality like? My caregivers would describe me as sweet and level headed, whatever that means. I love little dogs and I'm a very gentle giant. I can be a total goofball though! I hear people tell me "what are you doing, silly boy?" a lot. Hmm... I guess my other name is silly boy! How do I act when I first meet new people? I'm friendly to everyone! I never meet a stranger. As long as you're nice to me, I'm nice to you! More tips and tidbits: I can open chain link gates! We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Chewbacca is looking for a place to rest his head at night and start over! His fearful past does not determine his bright future. Date into Rescue: 12/3/2016 Reason for being in rescue: Found as stray after hurricane Mathew, Horry County Shelter. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Chewbacca is people selective and needs someone that can work with his issues! Weight: Estimated 50-60 lbs Height: Estimated 20" at the shoulder. Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? Yes, but also should be leashed walked at first. Chewbacca is nervous in new situations. What kind of home would be best for me? An only dog home, must have patience, He is also Male selective. What is my personality like? Chewbacca was found as a stray after Hurricane Mathew. When he first arrived, he was terrified and shut down.. but since then he has came great strides into the dog he is now. He always wants to be on the go and loves to have things that keep him busy, outside of his crate he is back and forth between doors just itching to do something! He does need some leash work, once his nose is to the ground he gets carried away and pulls. He has sat for a treat before, but tends to get distracted sometimes. Chewbacca is nervous in new situations and may growl and try to snap/bite but after he knows he is okay he loves to have attention and his back scratched.. but only if you can keep his curious mind still long enough! (It can be hard to get a read on Chewbacca because he is people selective! Some people he is perfectly okay with and while others, not so much. He needs a dominant and patient owner that can help him work through his issues.) Caregiver update 6/29/17: "If Chewy likes you, he likes you. If he doesn't, he will let you know that. He is not the overly affectionate type of dog. When he's comfortable enough, he will let his guard down and let you love on him. Showing too much love back doesn't seem to be his thing. Playing hard to get? Maybe! He did pretty good on leash; not too much pulling. He enjoyed his time in the big field where he got to explore all the new smells and see all the new sights. He listens well and so far has adjusted well here at the rescue. He needs a patient owner that will allow Chewbacca to be himself and get fully comfortable. He doesn't seem interested in toys, but can sit on command. He's a catch for sure, just need to find the lucky owners who will realize it." How I act when I first meet new people: Cautious, and may snap/bite out of fear. you have to take it easy once I warm up I am fine. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Estimated birth date 12/5/2010 Please note - we do not ship dogs.

Breed: Doodle (F2) 3/4 poodle, 1/4 lab Gender: male Adoption Fee: $300 Date into Rescue: 6/24/2015 Reason for being in rescue: Owner surrender, not enough time for him Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? No Weight: Est 65 lbs Height: Est 26 in What is my personality like? Jackson came to CPR in 2012. He had some weird behavioral issues and one of our employees at the time took him on. Jackson was thriving wonderfully until recently. Unfortunately, his owner got a new job where he was working long hours, which meant Jackson was spending a lot of time in his crate. As we all know, doodles need exercise - and lots of it! Overall, Jackson is a sweet, affectionate dog. He does have a dominate side to him, so he needs a very strong owner who has experience. He would do best as an only dog, as he does not get along with most. He does okay with submissive large female dogs only. Jackson is also not a big fan of kids. He does great with strong adults. He is a happy and playful dog who loves to chase a tennis ball! He has manners and is well trained but enforcing this takes a strong leader. Jackson knows sit and lay, he is house trained and crate trained. Jackson recently spent one-on-one time with one of our caregivers who shared the following: "Jackson is full of energy and enjoyed fetching the ball. Listens to sit command very well. A little aggressive when taking treats but not too bad. Needs work walking on a leash. When inside he could not stop moving, was being playful and loving." Update 7/13/2017: Jackson recently had a fatty like mass removed from his side and has recovered well. He is now back up for adoption and is looking for his right person! Jackson does however still have a habit of mounting certain people, but with the a stern voice- he knows to stop. Jackson has improved but would improve even more so if he could have one on one time with someone daily. At the end of the day; Jackson is just a huge puppy, and very energetic when let out of his run. He truly does not know his age. He enjoys running around in the field and picking up as many toys as his nose leads him to. Jackson does know his commands, and is very intelligent. If the right person would give him a chance, he would benefit greatly! Age: 2/24/2009 Who am I seeking? A very strong leader who has experience with dominant large dogs. A home where there are no other animals except him. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.
