More About Rat-Cha Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (long coat). Hercules is my name; belly rubs are my game. I'm a handsome, very active, sweet, medium-size guy who is looking for my forever family. I love to play with other dogs and to sit in your lap, give kisses and turn over for my belly to be rubbed. I keep life interesting as I can be unpredictable. One thing we can predict is that while I am not good with new people, once I know you I'm a big mush. When someone new walks into my space, I can react by barking, pulling on my leash and sometimes even growling and threatening. My foster mom adores me and knows that in the right home I would be the best dog, ever. Mom says I need a home where there is very little foot traffic. I'm not fond of new people just walking into my home or my space. Mom sends me to another room until the new people are sitting down and ready to be introduced. Mom and I are working on my house training; I'm starting to get the idea. I do get along really well with other dogs and would love to be kept very active and engaged. A fenced yard would be a plus. I'll probably do better in a home with no cats; I would chase them and my people are not sure what I would do if I caught up with them. Are you my forever family? If so, please fill out an online application for HERCULES.

Marco is very cautious when he first meets you. Once he gains your trust, he is a lovable, lap dog. Marco also likes walking on leash and loves going bye bye in the car.

Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Beagle. 25 lb Ginger, loves people, loves kids and is totally housebroken! She is still energetic and loves to play too. Although Ginger eventually adjusts to new dogs, since the initial meet is so stressful, it would be easier if there were no other dogs. Ginger originally came to us pregnant, from a rural Georgia high kill shelter and gave birth On Christmas Day in 2013! We think it's time for her to finally find a home of her own now!

Posted Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Black Mouth Cur / Mixed. One and a half year old Grayson is handsome, healthy and a very active dog! He's on the smaller side for being a Shepherd, weighing in only 45 lbs! We have him unscientifically guessed as a Belgium Mallinois/Black Mouth Cur Mix. Although he doesn't like the heat and would prefer to spend much of his day in the cool AC, he appreciates the once a day run! And he sure can run faster than you can throw a ball! Grayson is a smart dog too! He will tell you exactly what he needs. Did we mention that he is completely housebroken too!? This fast and strong dog, is good with other dogs and would be perfect for an active young adult or couple!
