Posted Breed: Redbone Coonhound (short coat). Meet Hugo, a two year old Redbone Coonhound who is looking for his forever home. Hugo had his initial vet visit this past week. He has been given his initial shots, he tested negative for Heartworm, and he has a fecal exam pending. Hugo has already been neutered. He is very friendly, highly interactive, walks well on a leash, and he is a well behaved dog. He learned a few tricks somewhere along the way and will give you his paw, sit on command, etc. Hugo loves people but he tends to be more focused on his surroundings than the people around him, at times. He's very good with kids, gets along well with other dogs, and he had a minimal reaction to the two cats he encountered wandering around the vet's office. Hugo's coat feels like cotton and he is the most beautiful, rich, chocolate brown/red color. He weighs 56 pounds and has been microchipped for his safety. If you would like to meet this very handsome man, please message me. Hugo is currently residing at the Mikey & Me Foster Care kennels in Chelsea. Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $69.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information. Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.

Posted Breed: Redbone Coonhound (short coat). Red was picked up as a stray in Jones County. He is a sweet, loving boy. Because of his breed and their love of hunting he may do best with a fenced in yard if he is going to be an outside dog. If you would like to meet Red please call Tracy at the shelter from 12:00 to 6:30 Tuesday - Saturday. The adoption fee is $175 unless otherwise stated. The fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lymes test, and flea preventative, testing and treatment for a variety of intestinal parasites and vaccinations. Breed Disclosure: Due to the fact that most of our adoptable pets are strays, we cannot guarantee their breed. We list the pet’s breed as the one that best matches the physical appearance, temperament, and personality of the animal. The pet may also be listed as a mix when it’s actually a purebred.

Posted Breed: Redbone Coonhound. Cowboy is approx 1 year old. He loves people, but because of his energy level, we would not recommend his with toddlers. He is great with dogs. He seems very curious about cats, but doesn't hurt them. He will need a very secure fenced in yard as he tends to be an escape artist. Please go to helptheanimalsinc.com and complete the adoption application for him today! To adopt one of our animals, please visit our shelter, open Tuesday-Saturday from Noon-5pm. You may also submit an application online from our website at http://www.HelpTheAnimalsINC.com or our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/HelpTheAnimalsInc

BEAUTIFUL, SWEET SOUTHERN BELLE!!! UPDATE 1/6/17: At the beginning of September 2016, we got this sweet Southern Bell from a man who was no longer able to care for her. She came to us very thin, with a severe yeast infection and ehrlichia, and she looked like she may have given birth to quite a few litters of puppies. We vetted her well and she got adopted quickly. June is a beautiful Redbone Coonhound who is about 3 years old and now weighs 55 pounds. She has lived for the past 3 months in a loving, adult home with another dog and a cat. That family started fostering small children this week and because June has been known to resource guard her favorite place on the sofa and her favorite digging place in the yard, we all felt it best that June be returned to us. We got her back on 1/3/17. June has many great qualities, but a loving, ADULT home with people knowledgeable about, and equipped to teach June NOT to resource guard is the kind of home she must have. Her family of the past three months told us that June: - is good in the house, does not chew on inappropriate things, and is 99% house trained. - knows how to go up and down stairs. - loved the attention at a huge, 4 day family reunion with many people and other dogs. Everyone fell in love with her and she didn’t resource guard anything there (but it wasn’t her own home). - is good in the car and likes to ride. - likes kids BUT should not be trusted around them if they are close to June’s things. - loves laying beside a cozy fire in a fireplace and seeks out warm places to lay in the sun. - loves laying on soft dog beds and being UP on soft furniture (but she probably should not be allowed furniture priveledges). - is a calm, respectful dog. - trained to their Invisible Fence. - loves to work at keeping vermin out of the yard and has been known to dig for voles. - is very good with their mellow, male, hound dog about June’s age and size. - “sits” for treats and waits her turn when she is beside her dog brother. - is good with their cat (though she did bark at it often). June is good with other mellow dogs but she should not go to a home that has children or children who visit. GOOD WITH DOGS. VOLUNTEERS and DONATIONS NEEDED. Breed: Redbone Coonhound

    Location: Dahlgren, VA
Posted Breed: Redbone Coonhound (short coat). Hello, friends! My name is Phoenix and I am one of the most special pups at KGARL. When I arrived here, I was so thin and sick that they were afraid I was not going to make it. They have taken such good care of me and I am so excited to tell you that I am now ready to go to my FOREVER home!! I hit a few bumps along the way and it has taken a long time to get me healthy. I was treated for heartworms and the vet and the wonderful lady caring for me discovered that I have Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, or EPI. What does this mean for my forever family? I will require special food and cannot eat anything else or I may get sick again. Also, I have to take medicine every day. I don’t mind, though, because I know it keeps me healthy and I feel SO much better. I am a sweet, playful young man and with the proper care, they say I can live a long, happy and healthy life. I am so lucky that I was brought here and given a second chance. I get along well with other dogs and cats. I love to be scratched and cuddled and PLAY! I am housebroken and neutered, too! I am anxiously awaiting a family of my very own and cannot wait to meet you! I have become a sort of mascot for KGARL and heard that I am pretty famous around here. They love me very much and are so proud of the progress I have made and they will miss me very much. I will be forever grateful to KGARL for saving me, but would love to have a family of my very own. I may come with a few more instructions and expenses than some dogs, but the love you will receive in return is priceless. If you would like to add Phoenix to your home, please visit http://www.kgarl.org/info/adoption to learn about KGARL's adoption process, and to submit an adoption application. Animals listed with "KGAC" in their names are not available through the King George Animal Rescue League, but through King George Animal Control. Please contact the shelter for details. Posted Breed: Redbone Coonhound (short coat). Julianna is: Couch Potato - Like the easy life? Then I’m the perfect match for you. I’m a relaxed, laid-back kind of dog who enjoys long naps, watching movies, curling up on laps, and walking very short distances from the couch to the food bowl and back. Julianna is obviously a mature dog, she is extremely calm, laid back kind of lady, maybe even a bit lazy & would do well with someone who is a first-time dog parent --- NO KITTIES - She does require a 6 foot high wood or vinyl fence. No exceptions. This beautiful girl Julianna is a true Redbone and she is just stunning. I know she looks sad & as if we are about to put her in the oven for dinner -- but that's the look a Redbone's. When you talk to her & pet her, then you can see how soft and gentle her eyes are when she looks at you. She has moved into my living room and onto my sofa & she quietly tries to get in bed with the my husband along with the others who sleep with us. If there isn't room, she waits until everyone leaves & gets in bed with her head on the pillows! She is thrilled to have a doggie bed but really loves be able to snooze on the sofa. If you are looking to adopt an easy-going, calm gentle soul to keep you company -- she would be a great match for you. She is very quiet for a hound, the only time she bays is when puppies are all running around chasing each other, then I think she is acting like a Den Mom and telling them to slow down so no one gets hurt. She is a real pack dog, she LOVES other dogs, they make her happy, so she would probably be happy with another dog to be buddies with but it's not mandatory. I love watching hounds or any dog who has spent it's life outside - never a pet enjoy what being a pet is all about. All the food and water you could ever want, to be with people who think and tell you how beautiful you are, to be with people that they come to trust -- my favorite thing is to watch them sleep on a big overstuffed doggy bed for the first time in their life. That gives my life meaning. Every LnF dog lives in a foster home & have been thoroughly temperament tested to guarantee a sound disposition, loves people & is fine with other dogs. Our goal is to help you adopt a dog not just by a photo -- but one that fits your lifestyle. PLEASE NOTE: Be sure to read ALL our adoption policies prior to applying for a puppy/dog to be sure you meet our minimum qualifications to keep from being disappointed. A fence is always mandatory - no exceptions. If you are qualified you may apply online at our website. The adoption fee includes: All pups & dogs have already been spayed/neutered, housebroken, crate-trained, given all shots, & microchipped -

HANDSOME & SUPER WELL BEHAVED!!! UPDATE 1/3/17: Have you ever seen a dog this HANDSOME? Gordon is a beefy, handsome, super well behaved Red Tick Hound, about 5 years old and 58 pounds. He was a stray from Animal Control and on his report they said his body condition was EXCELLENT. His white coat, dotted with attractive red spots, is maintenance free and sleek. Gordon is a great, laid back guy, who is very stocky and handsome. He LOVES affection and wants to be included in things that are going on around the shelter. He sometimes barks for attention saying: “Hey! I’m over here. Please come see me. I could use some loving and if you have any snacks for me I’d appreciate them!” He doesn’t bark all the time—just when he hears and sees things all around him and wants to be included. He loves spending time outside exploring in our big yard. Gordon is still learning how to walk on a leash, so he needs an experienced dog walker to help him acquire better leash manners. He can pull really hard when he has a mind to. He accepts treats with a gentle mouth and is clean in his room (an indication he’d be easy to house train), though he does play in his water bowl when he gets bored. Please give sweet Gordon some extra consideration when you are dog shopping. He is a wonderful little guy and he would love a forever home. GOOD WITH DOGS. VOLUNTEERS and DONATIONS NEEDED.
